[USS Chimera] 240901.03, NPC Log, Capt Trent Rodgers
=Somewhere on board the pirate ship Reaver=
Trent and Tung Cho reentered the room where Cho had spend the past
half hour doing a number on Hoack.
And Hoack was a bloody mess with teeth missing, a broken nose and a
loose eye socket. Two of Cho's "crew" were on either side of the
human-looking Nenon, keeping watch on the prisoner. Hoack, though,
was in no condition to attempt any escape.
When Hoack saw Cho return, he forced a laugh.
"Is this the best you can do?" Hoack continued laughing.
"I didn't want to risk killing you," Cho replied. "Trust me ... I was being
easy on you."
Trent walked up to Hoack and knelt down in front of him.
"You tell me what I want to know, and I'll return you to your people,"
Trent said.
Hoack looked surprised.
"My people want nothing to do with me," Hoack grunted.
"On the contrary, they want you back," Trent said.
"What's the catch?"
"The catch is, a new government has been installed and want those
responsible for the genocide of their people brought to justice," Trent
explained.
"Justice ... what kind of justice?"
Trent stood and walked off to Hoack's side.
"Executions. You and the top people that were under your command
are to be executed."
"No trial?" Hoack asked.
"There was a trial. You missed it. Too bad for you," Trent said coldly.
Hoack laughed again, "Really, Captain Rodgers ... you're suppose to
offer something advantageous to me to get me to talk. I don't see
how this can benefit me."
"He has a point," Cho said.
Trent nodded, "Indeed."
The Lancelot captain then walked up to Cho before turning to face
Hoack. Trent simply nodded to Cho.
"Bring it out," Cho ordered one of his people, who walked out of the
room.
Trent then took a couple of steps toward Hoack.
"Have you ever heard the term ... an eye for an eye?" Trent asked.
Moments later, a device was rolled into the room. Hoack's good eye
widened in horror.
"That ... that was destroyed. It was destroyed during a Federation raid
on a Romulan outpost a few weeks ago. How ... why ...," Hoack
muttered.
"We know about the raid. Your associate, the one who helped you wipe
my brother's mind clean was killed in the same raid, if I'm not mistaken,"
Trent said.
"Yes ... that's correct. Then how do you have it?"
"It seems the new Nenon government wants to improve their relations
with the Federation," Trent lied. "They're tired of the embargo and the
blockade and all of that. So, they gave our people the specs to the device,
which we were able to build."
"That's ... that's ... that's not possible," Hoack stuttered. "They wouldn't."
"They did," Trent said.
"Then I'm sure they were able to tell you how it works," Hoack said.
"No. Unfortunately, those that knew anything about it had already been
executed. You're probably the last one alive to know anything about it.
Sure, our R&D and medical people may be able to figure it out in a few
years, but I have no interest in waiting that long."
Hoack stared at the device then at Trent.
"You know, if you use that on me, everything I know about the device will
be wiped clean from my mind."
'So there is some hope,' Trent thought.
"If I use it on you, then I will have given up on getting anything from you.
Now, do you prefer death or ..." Trent said, nodding to the device. " ...
something worse."
Hoack looked terrified, and as much as Trent wanted to smile, he didn't.
"What is it you humans said ... ah yes ... go to hell," Hoack continued to be
defiant, even though it looked as if his defenses were crumbling.
"Very well," Trent said, nodding to Cho.
Cho placed attachments to both of Hoack's temples.
"I'm glad you won't talk," Cho whispered with an evil grin. "I've been
wanting to test this on someone. There are a few members of the Orion
Syndicate that I plan on using this on in the near future."
Cho then took a long needle-like appendage from the device and moved
toward Hoack.
"Let me," Trent said, reaching for the long-needle.
Cho handed it to him as Trent walked behind Hoack and inserted it into the
back of his brain, causing Hoack to scream.
Trent then returned to Cho's side, who was now standing at the devices
controls.
"Whenever you're ready, Sam?" Trent said, referring to Cho's original name.
Cho nodded and placed his right hand on the main control.
"Stop!" Hoack yelled out. "I'll tell you want you want to know! I'll tell you
everything! There's just one condition."
"No conditions," Cho said.
"No, Sam ... let's here his proposal," Trent countered.
Cho shrugged.
"If I tell you how to help your brother, then you let me go."
"I ... I don't know," Trent said, then after a long moment knelt in front of
Hoack. "You tell me everything and I'll let you go."
Hoack nodded.
After the attachments were removed from Hoack's head, he talked into Trent's
recording device. Almost an hour later, Hoack finished, panting heavily from
talking nonstop.
"Is that everything?" Trent asked.
"Yes ... isn't it enough?"
"I suppose," Trent said, before turning and heading for the exit.
"We had a deal!" Hoack yelled out.
Trent turned, snapping his fingers as he faced Hoack.
"We did, didn't we?"
Trent walked back to Hoack and released him of his restraints. But, just as
Trent turned to leave the room, Cho's men tied Hoack back up.
"What! What's the meaning of this! We had a deal!"
Trent turned and faced Hoack.
"Yes, we did. And I held up my end of the deal. I released you. Unfortunately,
the deal was just between you and me," Trent said, then nodded to Cho. "My
friend Cho, on the other hand, made no such deal."
"But ... but ..." Hoack looked at Cho.
"The Nenons have a huge reward on your head. I plan on collecting," Cho said.
"You know, the funny thing is, the Nenons didn't know anything about the device,
let alone how it worked," Trent smiled. "Thankfully, the recording of what you
did to my brother gave us a good look at the device. We were able to make an
exact replica. A non working one, of course, but that's such a minor detail, don't
you think?"
Trent and Cho exited the room. Hoack's screams could be heard from out in the
corridor.
"You know, you're going to have a lot of explaining to do with Starfleet," Cho said.
"Whatever happens, happens," Trent replied, then handed Cho the recorder. "Now,
lets transmit this to Earth right away and hope they can get some use out of it."

Their week on board the Qashqai was coming to an end. They
picked up the diplomatic team on Aeran III, bringing good
news and now only a few hundred meters separated them from
the docking ring.
+COM+ "USS Qashqai, we're sending you an approach vector,
you are cleared for docking."
+COM+ "Thanks a lot, please notify the cargo bay twelve,
that we have our cargo bay loaded with Gallicite so they
should make the necessary security arrangements."
+COM+"Understood, welcome home."
Terek sat in the captain's chair and still felt a bit
uncomfortable. The main screen showed the feed from the fore
of the ship that slowly approached the massive structure of
the Unity. The places where reconstruction works were still
in progress could be spotted. There weren't lot of them.
"Helm, take us in... slowly please." said Terek in quiet
voice as LtJG Dresher has proven to be a bit 'emotional'
pilot. He often was a bit ahead of the inertia dampeners.
Terek didn't like that at all.
"Aye, sir. Don't worry, there's no room for any quick
movements, unless you want to back a few parsecs and jump in
with high impulse." Smiled the blonde haired guy at the
console.
Terek shot him with a look and replied: "That won't be
necessary lieutenant, just dock."

Shane's comm. Badge chirped and went alive: "Flight
control to Commodore Guzman"
+TAPS+ Guzman here + he replied. It was still morning and
like many times, Shane was not very fond of getting up
before 10 o'clock. Being a commanding officer HAD its
privileges …
"Sir, The Qashqai is just proceeding to docking platform
one. You asked to be informed when the Qashqai will
arrive"
+TAPS+ That's good news. Thank you for the info. Guzman
out! +
It was true that Shane was happy to hear about the return of
the Qashqai and her crew. To be honest, he was already
somewhat worried about them. He send an inexperienced crew
led by his Chief science officer to a mission that was of
quite some importance and a lot of things could go wrong.
Besides accidents and diplomatic meetings, there was still a
possibility that the Qashqai will be engaged in a battle …
after all this sector was a war zone.
===== Five minutes later =====
He was exiting the airlock and felt a bit awkward now being
in the wide promenade that stretched around the docking
ring. He got used to the confined spaces of the Qashqai.
Nonetheless, there was no time to waste, he tapped his comm
badge.
+TAPS+"Terek to Guzman. Commodore, do you have a few
minutes? I've got some interesting news."
+TAPS+ Glad to hear you Terek. I'll be in my office in 15
minutes and will meet you there. Welcome back! +

[USS Chimera] SD:240901.02 Duty Log, Lt JG Gustav Kroitzer DCEO
=/\= USS Chimera – C – Hanger Bay 1 =/\=
Gustav was busy organising the crews that had been assigned to help
refit the hanger bays on board the Chimera with shinny new electro
magnetic catapult style launchers most for the teams were made up of
cadets fresh out of the academy and still wet behind the ears, just
like he was when he first arrived on the Chimera – B, but he still had
some experienced Engineers under his command, the main one he relied
on was Lt JG Alan Walker.
Gustav had known and worked with Alan for nearly a year, starting from
when they were both sent to the McCoy to help with repairs Alan had a
problem with Gustav back then because of seniority issues but he has
put that behind him and now they work well together.
It had been a hectic couple of weeks for Gustav, currently he was on
reduced hours due to Mimi being ill and so he can concentrate on
getting the hanger bays finished which was only about a day away from
a full test of the systems on all of them, currently he only had one
launcher in each hanger bay up and running, he planned on getting the
rest online at the same time.
Approached Alan but noticed that he was explaining a quick shortcut on
how to realign power converters to a Cadet that seemed to be taking a
long time to do it.
"Unhook this bypass then reinitialise then that should be it done"
Alan said finishing up with the Cadet, noticing Gustav waiting behind
him.
"What can I help you with Gustav" Alan asked.
"I'm just needing a progress report to send to Captain Xerxes and Lt
Commander Scardona" he asked ready to take down notes on a PADD he had
in his hand.
"All launchers in hanger bay 2 are fully operational and awaiting
testing" Alan said happy at the progress made in hanger bay 2.
"That's good news Xerxes will be pleased…. Now what about hanger bay 1?"
Alan had a face of concern when he responded to Gustav's Question " As
you know we already have one launcher running and is being used at the
moment to launch craft, launchers 2 and 3 are ready for testing, the
problem we are having is launcher 4, every time we run a diagnostic on
the systems they keep on coming back with the same fault…. a power
fluctuation in the warp contribution junction".
This concerned Gustav, as that junction was a major part of the
launcher, it allows the warp drive of the craft ready to be launched
to supplement the power of the launcher which, this has two main
benefits, it will give a considerable boost to launch speed and
recharge and the other is it will allow the launchers to operate even
it all power to the ship has been lost.
"Ok I'll have a look at it just now Alan" Gustav said.
Gustav was sure he could sort out the junction faster than most as he
was the person that designed it, the rest of the launchers were made
of relatively common components except for the high power electro
magnets but the materials for them were easily replicated, the main
problem was how to add the raw power of the crafts warp drive to the
power systems already without blowing then and the hanger bays sky
high, Gustav solution was a computer controlled valve of sorts that
restricted the power input at first then increasing the input over
about 10 seconds which doesn't sound like much but it stops a power
surge at would cripple the hanger bays if not the deck.
Gustav got down on his stomach to get into the junction, it was
situated right at the start of the launcher by the stirrup that the
craft hooks into is located.
"If you could pass he a hydro spanner and that tricorder Alan please "
Gustav asked pointing to an engineering set by a workbench.
Alan crouched to the left Kroitzer and passed him the tools Gustav
protective cover of the junction and plugged the tricorder into the
diagnostic port, a few minutes later the readings came up on the
screen.
"Hmm, it seems the main processor that controls power distribution to
the launcher has been partially exposed to static causing the power
fluctuations… it'll need replaced asap" Gustav explained to Alan
Gustav was just about to unplug the tricorder when it started beeping,
Gustav looked at the new readings.
"Ah crap" was all he managed to say as he pushed Alan away from the
launcher with his left hand just as a huge flash filled the hanger bay
and the launcher activated taking Gustav by the right arm part way
down the track.
Alan got up and ran to Gustav who was lying unconscious on the floor
in a pool of blood, his right arm and part of his shoulder savagely
ripped off by the launcher.
As soon as Alan had seen Gustav he hit his comms badge.

[USS Chimera] 240901.02, NPC Log, Capt Trent Rodgers
The lights flickered along the narrow corridor. Hints of green and red could be seen
whenever and where ever light was present. A lone figure could be seen, dragging
itself along the deck to the perceived safety of a partially opened door. Before it
could pull itself into the adjoining room, it was dragged out by it's legs.
Captain Trent Rodgers stood over the figure before leaning forward and dragging it
up by its collar and slamming it into the bulkhead next to the door. Weapons fire
could be heard from other parts of the ship.
"Where is he!" Trent yelled at the bloodied romulan, who had an obvious wound in
the right side of his abdomen.
"I do not know who you are talking about," the romulan shot back defiantly.
"You know good and well who the hell I'm talking about."
The romulan remained silent, trying to hid his pain and discomfort.
Trent responded by slamming his back against the bulkhead a couple more time.
"Tell me! Tell me or I'll make the last few moments of your life a miserable living hell!"
When the romulan didn't speak, Trent slung him with all of his might to the deck,
causing a loud, sickening thud.
+tap+ "Reaver to Captain Rodgers."
Trent took a few deep breaths as he looked down at the romulan, who had passed out.
+tap+ "Rodgers here."
+tap+ "We have detected a human life sign approximately twenty two meters from your
position … in their medical bay."
+tap+ "I'm on it."
Trent pulled out his phaser and shot the romulan in order to stun him. He then made his
way to the location of the life sign reported by the pirate ship Reaver. When he arrived,
he quickly entered with his weapon at the ready. The room was darker than the corridor
with only one flickering light to his left.
It took some time for his eyes to adjust. When they did, he saw someone jump out at him,
knocking him and his attacker to the deck. The phaser flew from Trent's hand and
disappeared into a dark corner. The attacker attempted to slam his fist into Trent's face,
which he avoided, causing the fist to connect hard with the deck. Trent knocked the
attacker off of him, using his legs to wrap around the other person. Trent connected with
a few punches of his own to the face and chest of the attacker, who he could tell was a
human male … or at least someone pretending to be human.
The fight lasted for a few minutes, with both sides using whatever they could get their
hands on to gain the ultimate advantage. In the end, Trent was able to get behind the
attacker and slammed his head hard into the metallic side of the romulan version of a bio
bed. He then wrapped his right arm around the attacker's neck in a choke hold. The
attacker attempted to break free, but all of his efforts failed as Trent held on tightly until
they both collapsed to the deck.
Trent let loose of the unconscious figure and stood, only now feeling the full effects of the
preceding fight.
"Not bad for Starfleet security officer training," Trent heard from the direction of the door.
"Damn it, Sam, how long have you been standing there?" Trent asked, rubbing the back of
his next.
"A couple of minutes," Sam Wang, or better known as Tung Cho replied.
Trent and Sam grew up together on Earth when Trent had been forced to live with his
mother in Boston. The two, along with others, got into plenty of trouble and eventually,
Trent was forced to join Starfleet to go to prison. Sam went on to a criminal lifestyle where
he changed his name and eventually became one of the top, and most dangerous, crime
bosses in the galaxy.
Despite the fact they were on opposite sides of the law, Trent knew Cho was the one
person he could trust in situations like this. Cho had previously helped Trent uncover a secret
romulan alliance with the Nenon empire, which eventually led to their current predicament.
"Is that Hoack?" Cho asked.
Trent nodded.
Hoack was a Nenon who led up their special forces/police detachment … the Nex. The Nex was
responsible for tens, if not hundreds of millions of deaths in what they called a "cleansing of an
undesirable element of their population." Trent's father Richard Rodgers, captain of the
Galaxy-class Dunkirk, discovered this during the final phase of a Federation membership inquiry.
Hoack and the Nex had managed to get a bomb on board the Dunkirk, killing Richard and several
others, but the report had already been sent to Starfleet, resulting in numerous actions, including
an embargo and containment of the Nenon civilization to their own star system.
Later, Trent had uncovered the romulan alliance, unknown by most of the Nenon government,
during his investigation of the death of a Federation Councilman. Trent had been captured and
tortured by Hoack before being rescued by Cho in a firefight that resulted in the death of a Tal
Shair agent, among others. This led to the Nex being disbanded and Hoack being dishonored and
exiled from Nenon space.
This led to Hoack seeking his revenge against Trent's brother Rick. Hoack managed to use a
romulan device to turn himself, and an associate, into humans and gaining access to the
Chimera-B, and later Starbase Unity where they kidnapped Rick and used a Nenon device to wipe
his mind clean of everything the former CEO had learned since infancy.
"We have control of the ship and eliminated all resistance," Cho said. "We're salvaging anything
useful."
"How long?" Trent asked.
"About ten minutes."
"We're three light years inside Romulan space. Their friends could drop by anytime."
"I'm aware of this," Cho said. "I lost two ships in this endeavor. I plan on making up for it any way
possible. Don't worry. I don't plan on being here any longer than I have to. After all, unlike you, I'm
not at war with the rommies. They make good business partners and I have no interest in screwing
that up."
Trent shook his head, not wanting to know what kind of business dealings Cho had with the
Romulans.
"I'll have Hoack beamed over to the Reaver. We can deal with him there," Cho said.
- - - - - - - - - -
Twenty minutes later, the Reaver and six remaining pirate vessels from the battle with the
Dhelan'hraikhina were on their way to an area of space Cho controlled. Hoack, impersonating a
former Chimera security crewman, was tied to a chair in a bare room with a bright light shining down
on him. Trent and Cho entered, escorted by three rough-looking members of Cho's "crew."
"I'm just saying, we could have taken prisoners," Trent said. "We could have beamed them over
before we destroyed their ship."
"I don't have room for prisoners. This isn't a Federation starship," Cho replied.
As Cho and his people remained in a dark corner of the room, unseen, Trent grabbed a pitcher of
water and splashed it in Hoack's face. The Nenon/Human's eyes shot open, focusing on Trent.
"How did you find me?" Hoack asked. "By the way, how is you brother?"
"The Tal Shair are not the only ones with spies," Trent said. "And as for my brother … he's in
better shape than you're going to be in."
Hoack laughed, "So, you're going to torture me for what I did to him. Perhaps you believe I know
a way to reverse the effects. I can assure you, there is no … how would you say … ah, yes …
cure. Besides, you're a Starfleet officer … a captain at that. Congratulations, by the way.
Anyhow, Starfleet officers don't torture people."
Trent knelt down in front of Hoack, looking the Nenon in the eyes.
"There was a time where that wouldn't have mattered. I would have beaten the living hell out of
you for what you did to him."
Trent looked down at the deck, then back up at Hoack.
"But … but now, there's no way I could look into the eyes of my wife and children if I did what I
wanted to do to you," Trent said.
"Too bad," Hoack smiled.
"My friend on the other hand …" Trent stood as Cho walked into the light. "… has no such
reservations."
Hoack's eyes widened as seeing Cho.
"It seems he knows who I am," Cho said with a grin. "I can't help but to be touched."
"You did help me ruin his pathetic life," Trent responded.
Cho laughed, "I did enjoy that so."
Trent refused to grin as he returned his focus to the captive, "I believe your lying. I believe
there is a way to help my brother regain his mind. You're going to tell me."
Hoack just looked straight ahead with a silent stare.
"Have at him," Trent said, turning and walking to the door, pausing before leaving. "But don't
kill him."
"I have no intention of killing him … yet," Cho said as Trent left the room.
Trent took a seat outside the room, hearing sounds of screams as he looked over a large piece
of metal that had come loose during the battle. After a half hour, Cho emerged from the room
with blood on his hands and clothes.
"He's not talking. Give me a few days and he'll tell me whatever I want," Cho said.
"I didn't expect him to talk," Trent said, standing. "And I don't have days."
"So, on to Plan B, then?" Cho asked, looking more excited.
Trent nodded as they reentered the room.

[USS Chimera] USS Chimera] SD 240901.01 CEO LtCmdr Curtis Scardona, Duty Log
=Main Engineering, USS Chimera-C=
Main Engineering was abuzz with activity. The Chimera had gone through its initial shakedown cruise with little ill-effects. The transporter had been buggy, but that was sorted out within a few hours. Now, Scardona had his staff working hard making sure everything stayed bug-free.
He was in his office, going over the latest emission figures when Rojac's communique reached him. He brought up the attached specs on the screen by his desk and took an initial look-through. After absorbing the information, he tapped his commbadge.
"Scardona to Lt. Stanton...my office please."
With Gustav juggling the responsibilities in his personal life with his duties onboard the ship, Curtis lightened his duty shifts slightly. As of now, Gustav was helping refit the fighters in the hangar bay. So Scardona decided to call in someone else. The gray haired Lt. entered only a few minutes after he was summoned. Curtis motioned him over to the desk, where he opened the specs.
"You know what these are...we've been ordered to see if we can transport through the outposts defenses. Multi-phasic shielding is as bullet-proof as they come. So...impress me, Stanton."
He knew that Stanton had been on one of the teams that oversaw the sensor outposts latest refits. He was also a specialist in shielding technology, as a civilian. He was the best man for the current job. Stanton strode over to the desk, a mask of perfect calm on his face. Stanton rubbed his chin and began to speak.
"Well, the randomness of multi-phasic shielding is a myth, sir. If the frequencies were truly random, they would interfere with each other and cause the entire grid to a collapse. There are specific patterns unique to each grid, which if known, could allow for the identification of gaps in the grid...theoretically, of course. The specific pattern sequence for this outpost should be on file with the Corps of Engineers."
Curtis nodded, impressed with the man's suggestion. It would be tight, of course. Any gap in the grid would only allow them to transport two or three at a time at specific intervals. He would have to chart out the specific intervals, and then patch that sequence into the transporter console.
"Interesting. Good work, Lieutenant. Retrieve the pattern sequence from the SCOE, and then forward it to the main console. We've got some work ahead of us."
Stanton acknowledged and left the office in a hurry, ready to get to task on what was sure to be a daunting challenge. Scardona wasn't even sure it what he was planning was possible, but he always did like a challenge. He brought up Rojac's communique and sent a simple reply:
Captain,
Orders recieved, exploring avenues. One lead looks promising. Will have a report ready by the briefing.
Scardona
Without a flourish, he tapped a button on his desk and the communique went on its way. The next few hours would most certainly be interesting.

========== Chief Science Officer's Log ==========
The week on board the Qashqai brought us some very interesting results.
The resource hunt, commodor sent us to paid out. At first everything
looked bleak. The crew was a bit nervous as not all of them were
acustomed to the ship and i was a bit nervous myself as this was my
first real command assignment. I have prearranged a meeting in the polar
cap mining colony on Aeran III. Diplomatic team was dispatched on our
way to the mineral survey of the outer moons and asteroid belts. We are
about to pick them up in three hours from now. They are supposed to
negotiate for the regular supply or at least a fair trading agreement.
Surely enough, they are gonna have a difficult job as the reports state
that Aeran miners have special contract with nearby systems.
For the past five days, we've been conducting a geological an
mineralogical survey of the Aeran V Sigma and Aeran V Kappa, the two
moons orbiting the gas giant Aeran V. Several large deposits of
meitnerium and potasium triglyceride has been found on Sigma and
currently the results from the ico-spectrogram analysis are being
reviewed by the Unity's geology expert lieutenant commander Sean Itori.
--- Personal note ---
Lieutenant commander has proven to be a difficult person. He often acts
disrespectfuly and he prioritizes his scientific carreer over his
starfleet duties. I have been forced to urge him in filling in status
reports and accept the regular shift schedule.
Despite that he is a valuable member of the crew. His extensive
knowledge of the geology and mineralogy may prove extremely usefull on
this mission and he certainly can 'think out of the box'. He claims to
have improved the ico-spectrogram accuracy by eighteen percent and
reduced time necessary for the scan completition by one hour.
Hopefuly, he will also be able to work as a part of the team. So far I
have tolerated his outbursts for it seemed beneficial, but shoud this
continue, I will make appropriate disciplinary actions.
--- End note ---
The Kappa moon's tectonic analysis shows a great posibility of a
dilithium deposites so I'm putting a lot of hope in the ico-spectrogram
analysis. Meanwhile, we've been able to conduct a standard mineral scans
on the two asteroid belts and they have shown only a little of possible
harvestibles. Several larger asteroids are composed of tritanium ore and
previously noticed gamma zirconium trioxide.
Smaller clusters of another transonic elements have been discovered on
the outer edge of the second asteroid belt. Namely Pillerium,
Estonianium and Babaloo, however, the scans indicate that the clusters
aren't too big and as it could prove to be difficult to reach those
asteroids for mining, the benefits of such action needs to be considered.

[USS Chimera] 240901.01, NPC Log, Capt Trent Rodgers
=U.S.S. Lancelot=
Sitting quietly watching the stars streak by on the main viewscreen,
Captain Trent Rodgers felt uneasy, but relieved. After months of
combat, the crew of the Lancelot was finally going to get a few days
of well deserved shore leave while the ship was updated with
improved weapons systems.
Meanwhile, Trent was going to be able to spend some time with his
brother, who was making little progress. The doctors continued to
make promises, and Trent knew they were doing their best, but in
this case, their best wasn't enough.
In a way, he didn't look forward to returning to Earth. He didn't
want to see Ricky in his current condition. Sarah, Trent's wife and
Rick's sister-in-law, had done her best to help make Ricky
comfortable, and Mai had made a couple of trips to Earth to be with
her husband. Trent just felt helpless whenever he saw Ricky. He
blamed himself for putting Rick in the middle of his own problems.
"ETA to Earth," Trent said from the captain's chair.
"Four hours and 22 minutes," the helms officer replied.
Trent stood, stretching his arms above him.
"I'll be in my ready room," he said.
Moments later, he walked behind his desk when he saw a message
flashing on his computer screen. He leaned forward to take a closer
look.
Trent allowed himself to grin for a brief moment.
The message was short and to the point and there was no mention
of where it originated, but Trent understood what it meant and knew
who had sent it.

[USS Chimera] Sd 240812.31 USS Chimera-C Duty Log: Cmdr Summers / Lt Fisher
*** Sickbay * USS Chimera-C ***
Scott stood with a medpadd in his hands, comparing readings
from the biofunction monitor with similar ones taken an hour
before.
" You're doing very well." he said noting down a result and
flashed a smile to his patient who lay on the biobed looking
far from 'very well'
"Good." she said catching the end of his smile and returning
a weaker version. " I feel better." she added.
Rangi had been out of the stasis unit for thirty six hours
and was in fact doing exactly as Scott had said.
She had spent time in intensive care but was now in a
private room where she would continue to receive treatment.
Once she was well enough to ask questions, she had hardly
stopped and Scott had had to explain in fine detail the work
they had achieved in repairing the DNA sequences.
He had soon learned that it was better to answer her
questions thoroughly rather than skim over details.
At first her recovery had been slow but things went well and
as her strength returned, so did her desire to know what was
happening in her department despite Scotts protests that
everything was fine and she had no need to worry about
anything.
"How's Jardan?" she asked and in answer to Scotts quick
glance of surprise explained that she had heard the chief of
Security had arrived in sickbay by emergency transport.
"He's fine." Scott told her looking up at the monitor and
she frowned.
"He wouldnt be here if he was fine would he?" she asked
reasonably.
"Don't worry about it." Scott said patiently." Just look
after your own recovery."
" I need to know." she said with a hint of insistence.
"No you don't." Scott said signing off the medpadd. He met
her steely gaze. " I'm acting CMO...trust me." he said.
Her lips formed a straight line of annoyance. " I do trust
you....but I 'am' the CMO." she said "...and I'd like to
know what's going on."
Scott sighed.
"He's been treated for a stab wound to the left side of his
chest..retained hemothorax, intercostal bleeders, a lung
laceration and a fractured rib.... He's fine... ok?" He
raised his eyebrows with an expression that dared her to
question him further.
" Stabbed?" she said, her blue grey eyes lighting with
interest.
Scott cursed himself for giving her too much information.
"Yes." he said.
"Where?" she asked.
"In the Brig..by a prisoner." he replied , forestalling the
next demand.
{In the Brig...the Romulan prisoners?} She stared at her
covered toes as she thought it out.
"Where did they get the knife?" she asked a moment later
returning her attention to the AMO.
"He didn't." Scott said, turning away. " it was a sharp
piece of plastic."
"Where did they get it fr..."
"Drink that." Scott said firmly as he held out a slim
tumbler of liquid inches from her chin.
Rangi groaned. " I only just had some." she said peevishly.
" Yes..and you'll have some more in another half an hour."
Scott replied.
She met his eyes but took the tumbler from him and drank
down the unappetising contents, ending with a shudder as she
handed it back.
"Excellent!" Scott exclaimed despite the scowl she gave him.
He placed the empty vessel on to the medtray and looked back
at her.
"If...IF..." he repeated, stressing the word "...if you
continue like this with plenty of rest and no pestering
about other patients, then I 'might' allow you to get up
later and make a call."
A smile slowly widened across his face as he saw her
expression change.
"Really?" she said eagerly.
"Only if you have a rest now." he said making the most of
the opportunity to bribe her.
" Have you called again?" she asked.
" Yes I did. I spoke to Pakosii. He asked if the call was
urgent..he would interrupt a meeting he said."
Rangi gave a slight nod, understanding that Shane might well
have told his aide to inform him of any calls from Chimera
sickbay. She waited for Scott to continue.
" I told him to tell the Commodore that you were out of
intensive care, were doing much better and was in fact well
enough to annoy me."
Rangi stared at him then laughed. " No you didn't!" she
said.
" Yes I did." Scott replied "....because then the Commodore
would know that you really are on the road to recovery."
He smiled down at her. " I also told him to say that I was
hopeful of you being able to call Unity yourself later today
and Pakosii said he would gladly pass on the message."
Rangi smiled up at him. " Thankyou." she said.
" So now you need to rest...no more questions about Jardan
or retroviruses or anything else. If I think you're fit to
move in a few hours time then I'll allow you to call the
starbase...it's up to you." Scott told her.
They exchanged a look which silently said that Rangi would
do anything to have the chance to speak to Shane and that
Scott knew that very well.
She smiled and settled herself on the biobed. Scott
straightened the coverlet.
" I'll be back later." he said.
She watched him cross the room to the door and exit, leaving
her alone and in peace. She sighed a small happy sigh of
contentment pleased at the prospect of talking to Shane.
Some moments passed.
{I wonder where he got the plastic from?} she thought. {How
come security was so lax to allow it?}
She frowned again as her thoughts turned to Romulans but
then mindful of Scotts warning she dismissed the thoughts
from her mind and determined to sleep.
In less than two minutes, she was successful.

[USS Chimera] SD 240812.31 || CO Log || Captain Rojac ||
[Ready Room - Deck 1 - USS Chimera-C]
"Computer, authorization Rojac-alpha-six." The Captain bellowed aloud as he sat behind his large wooden desk and cleared the bit's of data in his LCARS desktop.
[Clearance authorized. State requested file.] The computer replied after a soft, confirming tone.
"All engineering specifications on Sensor outpost 0071, include classified material." He said, and watched as a status box appeared in the middle of his desk. The download bar completed it's cycle and the computer gave another soft tone before a myriad of files erupted onto Rojac's desktop.
He touched and dragged several files to the side until he found the one he wanted. It was a detailed deck specifications file that broke down the small station down room by room. He pulled up a communique program, typed a message to his Security Chief, and forwarded it with the file attached. It read:
LtJG Jardan,
Attached you will find a complete deck listing and blueprints for Sensor Outpost 0071. I want you to (1) find the best spot for a covert infiltration, (2) find the prime location where one might hold hostages, and (3) plan a course of action to rescue said hostages.
-Captain Rojac
After the message sent, Rojac flipped around to the statistics on the Outposts' cloaking and deflector shield systems. He typed up a message to his CEO:
LtCmdr Scardona,
Have a look over these files. I want to know if it's possible for us to transport through these systems. Have a look at the nutation cycles and tell me the likelihood of a successful infiltration. Prepare your findings for the scheduled senior staff briefing.
-Captain Rojac
He wrote similar messages for other members of the senior staff. His XO, Cmdr Trzetrzelewska, was in charge of the operation that deployed station 0071. Her task was to use her knowledge of the network distribution to figure out how the Romulans could have taken the station, and how the Chimera might do the same thing. The science was assigned to perform a similar duty, more specifically to how they Romulans had detected the network in the first place.
He then set to work planning his course of attack. But he would have to tread carefully. He needed to know how many warbirds, if any, would he be dealing with? And how many Romulans were aboard the outpost? He needed reconnaissance. And he knew just the person to ask. He typed up a memo for Captain Xerxes, asking her to plan a flight path for the Chimera's assigned Shadow team for a covert recon operation of outpost 0071. He asked for a speedy reply.
It was about that time that he recived a message from the on watch operations officer on the bridge.
+Captain.+
"Rojac here. What's going on?" He asked, sounding rather impatient.
+Sir, Lieutenant Jardan has just been beamed in emergency to sickbay. Reports indicate he's been stabbed by one of the prisoners.+
Rojac slammed a fist into his desktop. "Damn it!" He grunted. "We're not even into the first mission yet and people are already trying to die on me. Get a Security Officer and the Master at Arms to my office on the double."
+Aye sir. Ops out.+

***Security Brig*** Tommy looked at the Romulan med tech and scowled.A few minutes ago, he had been in his quarters when he had gotten word that one of the infiltrators wanted to speak to him. Now he was here, and so far the man had not spoken a word. " You said you had something to say to me? Well, better speak up. I'm not in the habit of standing around just to watch you smirk stupidly." Tommy folded his arms and waited. The romulan smirked for a few more minutes, then started to speak. " You Starfleet do not haave the vagest idea of what it means to fight a war, do you? Oh, I'm aware of your recent troubles with the Dominion and all that, but really you just lucked out." Tommy interrupted the speech," If you just wanted to insult us this conversation isover. I did not..." Before he could finish the Romulan laughed. " how easy it is to get you mad. It's quite enlightening. You could learn so much from what you can observe, if you really try. All your tactics to date rely on the instincts of your commanders without trying to see the big picture." The Romulan paused. By this time Tommy had stood up straight, and now he moved to the doorway." Good bye, prisoner. It seems our conversation is over." The Romulan, however, moved quicker. He ran over to Tommy and pulled out, from his arm, a piece of plastic. He stabbed the plastic into Tommy's chest, and as Tommy fell, two of the guards ran in and tackled him. On the ground the infiltrator looked at Tommy's face and smiled. " There are more of us out there. Maybe on the ship. Maybe back at the starbase...." The Romulan laughed, " Maybe on Earth, serving on your precious council? But you will not be able to help." Suddenly, the Romulan bit down hard on to his teeth, then started to convuls. Soon he was dead. The guards started checking to see if there was anymore surprises in store. One of them went to check on Tommy. " He is still alive! Quick, get him to sickbay!" As the guard shouted, the other ran to the wall and hit a switch+ Emergency! One to beam directly to sickbay! Energize!+ Tommy last thought before he passed out was( On the council!). End Log Lt. - Summary (by Rangi)
-------------------------
Jackson told Vlimar of a strange transmission from one of
the cloaked Outposts. Vlimar listened to the message and
immediately contacted the Commodore who in turn contacted a
sleepy Rojac and ordered him to investigate.
Rangi diagnosed appendisitis for the ailing Mimi and Gustav
reassured his girlfriend that he loved her before she was
sent for surgery.
Jardan told Rangi about the two Romulans in the Brig who had
taken on the appearance of medical personnel
Scott was summoned to the CMOs office where Rangi told him
she couldnt continue working as she felt so ill. An
examination revealed her to be seriously unwell and with her
condition deteriorating and not able to find a cause, Scott
and Syrok placed the CMO into stasis.
Shane broadcast a message throughout the starbase explaining
its stregic place and outlining new restrictions that had
come into force.
Jade was not overly impressed by a confident new recruit and
selected a surprised Dexter as well as the recruit to meet
her in her office.
Scott told Rojac about Rangis situation and was confirmed as
acting CMO. He informed Shane too and learned of a possible
Romulan involvement.
Syrok and Scott discovered an enzyme inhibitor as the cause
of Rangis condition and set to work on finding a solution.
Rojac held the but of the shotgun beneath his armpit and
sighted down the barrel. It was a nice gun of sturdy
construction. Rojac felt sorry for any sentient being that
was ever stuck on the business end.
Tommy took back the rifle and took down another. " I do not
know why, but we have four of these, sir. It's called the
tr-116. It's a sniper rifle. Not very useful in a intraship
battle, but if we get into a planetside hostage situation,
It will prove to be useful." Tommy waited for Rojac took
look over the rifle.
"I'll see if I can find some situation where you can try it
out, Lieutenant." Rojac smiled, before shouldering the
weapon and testing the scope. "Interesting. I bet it could
come in very useful. I might have to test it in the firing
range later."

He could try a keep fit DVD?.....
It was unusually quiet in the quarters that belonged to
Rangi, Shane and Martin. Usually, it was all busy with
little Martin and his games and with two adult persons
trying to keep up with him. But now … with only Shane
there is was sad and quiet. The only company Shane had for
the moment, was a glass of dry red wine –

Brings a whole new meaning to 'afternoon

Syrok frowned... the human habit of eating whatever just
pleased them was a bit disgusting: "If Commander Summers has
been poisoned and if she was so careless in her choice of
food as you are, then perhaps we already know the reason of
her intoxication." he replied and took a sip from his Vulcan
tea. A lovely blank taste of dishwater.
