***Bridge, Deck One, USS Chimera-B***

Anya calmly waited at her station waiting for something to happen.  They had entered the Charos System and so far there had been no sign of the Romulans.  The Quasar was badly damaged and the McCoy had suffered an attack from what they claimed as Erassian Terrorists.  Some how that didn't add up, the Erassians had never been fond of the Federation but suicide bombings on a Federation Medical Ship?  No there was definitely some other factor at work and Anya didn't have a clue what it could be other than some sort of Romulan influence involved.

Anya sent a quick message to the CSEC on the McCoy asking him to send her any information that he had on the attackers.  She returned her thoughts to the situation at hand and resumed monitoring the surrounding area.  Her mundane activities swiftly ended as her Tactical console quickly lit up.  "Four Romulan Warbirds De-Cloaking" she called.

***Reinholt Institute,  Charos VI***

Major Scott Walters paced back and forward in the small control room of the Research and Development Centre that he was in charge of.  The thing was acting now was in direct violation of his orders from Colonel Westbridge and defying her usually meant death.  He wondered what would his older sister do?  Sylvia had always bee the go getter in the family joining the Erassian Alliance Military as soon as she was able and sure enough he had followed her in expecting to do nothing more than follow in her footsteps.  Somewhere along the line though he had gotten ahead of his sister, he was promoted to Major and had control of the entire Reinholt Institute whereas Sylvia was merely a Captain and still only in charge of the EAS Ostia, an IG4GW in the First Fleet.  In essence he had left his sisters shadow long behind him and yet he still looked up to her.  What should he do?  Follow Sylvia's example or Colonel Westbridge's orders?  In his heart of hearts he knew what he had to do.  "Ready the weapon"

***Eigorson Plaza, Charos VI***

Eigorson Plaza had once been a vibrant focal point of the thriving Central Business District in Elgamiya the Capital and first colony of Charos VI.  But now Eigorson Plaza was empty, a barren wasteland populated only by the buildings covered in the corporate logos of  Mega-corporations and Banks whose staff had long since died horribly from the plague delivered upon this planet by it's enemies.  The people who had likely thronged the Plaza had likely watched their skin melt off and drowned in their own blood or if they were lucky had taken their own lives early on.  The people were gone life had forsaken this place, only one focal point remained here.  The Eigorson Spire as it was locally known wasn't the tallest building in the city by far only measuring a mere 5000 ft.   It looked like a fusion of a tall cuboid and a pyramid which was slightly taller sitting at a 45 degree angle to the cuboid structure's alignment.  Viewed from above it looked like an eight pointed star.

The ground in the square began to shake.  The windows of the buildings began to reverberate violently, a few of them even shattering dramatically.  Giant straight cracks appeared on the centre of the outer pyramid's surfaces and slowly but surely the building began to split apart into five separate pieces with the one in the centre looking a little like the Washington Monument on Earth.

A loud humming noise filled the air and sparks of energy shot between the segments of the outer pyramid and the central pillar like a bolt of lightning with a thunderous crack.  Slowly the sparks increased in number, frequency and intensity till the noise was overwhelming and the central pillar began to glow white.

***Reinholt Institute,  Charos VI***

"The Second Fleet has arrived and has begun to engage the Romulan Forces!" Came the shout from the officer observing the sensor readouts from the Planetary Defence Network.

Major Scott Walters watched as the weapon became fully charged.  "Prepare to target Warbird Echo once it clears five clicks from the Starfleet Vessel."   The holographic view screen changed perspective from that of the external view of the weapon to that of the targeting sensors of the weapon.  The Venator Class Warbird appeared large in fully three dimensional form.  It was an extremely powerful warship but in the face of what was about to be unleashed it was like a child's toy.  The targeting reticule went from green to red.  One word came from the mouth of Major Walters and it was delivered with a surety that he had never held before "Fire."

***Eigorson Plaza, Charos VI***

The Eigorson Spire glowed brighter and brighter until there was a blinding flash like the detonation of a nuclear weapon.  As the ultra bright beam lanced upwards from the weapon a shockwave reverberated out from the weapon shattering all the windows in the Plaza and dislodging loose pieces of masonry.

***Reinholt Institute,  Charos VI***

Major Walters let out a sigh of relief.  "It worked well for a weapon that was built twenty years ago and has never been even test fired before.  Send the coded message to General Ivanov that we need to meet once the current situation has abated.  The only other thing we have to prepare for is facing the wrath of Colonel Westbridge."

***Bridge, Deck One, USS Chimera-B***

Anya shouted her reply "Closest thing we have on record is the Sharkapult!"  A drop of cold sweat dripped down her spine as she finally realised where she had seen the Sharkapult before.  It hadn't been a real life encounter, no she would have remembered that far easier.  No instead the place she remembered something like the Sharkapult from before was the last training simulation that they had performed when she graduated from flight training in the Erassian Alliance Military.  The simulation was a no win situation  essentially the Erassian pilots version of Starfleet's Kobayashi Maru.  And the enemy that they had fought in that simulation each one of the enemy fighters was equipped with a sharkapult...the name of the enemy came back to her in a rush.  "Gods help us, they're real. The Karaf."  She breathed feeling more helpless at that moment than any other time.  More than anything else she knew for sure that something old and powerful was stirring and it had something to do with the Karaf.

***Study, Lunar Shrine, Trill***

Her nails tapped the surface of the desk impatiently as she read the latest report from her agents that she had tailing the Betazed woman.  It had been over twenty five years since she had last seen that frightened child on the Dominion occupied planet.  Over quarter of a century since the last time the enemy had tried to venture into their realm.  Whilst they had barely managed to stop the incursion of that one ship their efforts at curbing the more subtle elements of the enemies plan had been far less successful.  A small fist hammering on the study door broke her from her musings.  A young novitiate barged in panting and out of breath.  The novitiate spoke with a mixture of excitement and panic "High Priestess...she's waking up!"
