me for not standing." The bitter humour didn't really strike
a chord and there was no laughter even forced from around
the table. Lernen guessed that most of them were
uncomfortable having to deal with someone confined to a
chair especially these days. "I'll break my report down into
three seperate pieces. The Romulans, Local Powers and
Ranged Powers."
"Firstly The Romulans. Whilst the Colonel is correct in saying
that Tal'Shiar communications perhaps more important is
where those spikes in communications took place. The
spikes in communications activity took place on several
worlds along the Romulan border with Federation and Alliance
space there. No particular surprise there. However there was
another spike in communications triangulated to somewhere a
bit deeper into Romulan territory, a place called the Raylin
System. I looks like that is their regional command post
coordinating the forward command posts. We've sent in a few
deep cover operatives to validate that information. Overall the
Romulan Military Strategy appears to be focused on taking out
the sensor grids observing their borders. General Ivanov
confirmed that after the Battle of Aeren III that the first target
the Romulans had hit was the Alliance Sensor Network."
"The Klingons have shown surprising reluctance to enter conflict
with the Romulans. This is most likely due to inter-House tensions
being at their hight since around forty years ago. I suspect the
Tal'Shiar is likely stirring that particular Hornet's nest with all
they've got. The Alliance on the other hand seems to be doing the
opposite. Intelligence indicates that there was a massive Romulan
Force which tried to attack the Rios System where the Erassians
have a small shipyard facility early reports seem to indicate the
Battle size was on a par with the Battle of Aeren III. The Erassians
sent in the Second and Third Fleets and the Romulans were repelled
though rumours indicate the Hermes and several of it's support
Destroyers were either badly damaged or destroyed. Other evidence
supporting this includes the sharp rise in the cost of shipbuilding
materials indicating a sudden lack of it on the open market."
"Further away the Cardassian Union has been stirring and have been
aggressively patroling their borders. Whilst it doesn't immediately
effect us it could have a knock on effect if the situation deteriorates.
Our intelligence on Breen activity is sketchy at best during most times
but what we have managed to glean seems to indicate eratic
movements of ships. This may be tied in to last years incident in the
Antigonis System, so we've joined resources with SFI and sent a few
cloaked ships into the area to verify whats going on. Oh and before
anyone asks I'm not going to comment on internal investigations."
