= Starbase Unity - Docking Pylon 3 =
Natalia stepped through the airlock and onto the starbase for the
first time this month and was glad to do so. Finally their mission was
over and she could return to her position as Chimera's XO. That is if
she hadn't been reassigned in the meantime, but Colonel PontBrillant
hadn't mentioned anything when she spoke to him before their arrival.
The Chimera was due to arrive soon according to reports and she was
looking forward to seeing the new ship in person.
"Commander Trzetrzelewska," a voice called her name and she returned
around to see Commander Telson walking in her direction. He was the
captain of the Rapier and had so graciously allowed her command of his
ship during her mission while he had been temporarily reassigned by
SSF Command. She'd never met him in person before but recognised him
from his Starfleet database file.
"Commander Telson," she greeted him with a smile as she extended her hand.
"It's a pleasure to meet the woman who's been babysitting my ship for
the past few months," he grinned as he shook her hand. He was more or
less her height with friendly eyes that were framed by dark lashes and
laugh lines. "From where I stand she looks to be in perfect condition.
I knew I didn't have a thing to be worried when I heard they were
assigning the flagship's XO to the mission."
"Pleasure to meet you too, Commander," Natalia smiled, charmed by his
friendly nature. It wasn't often that you met an SSF officer with such
a jovial nature, especially during wartime. She found it quite
refreshing. "And that's very kind of you to say. The Rapier is a
wonderful ship and she never gave us any problems. It was a joy having
the seat. Did your assignment go well?"
"In a word... no," he said as he bowed his head slightly. "But I can't
tell you more than that, sorry. Classified and all that, I'm sure you
know."
"All too well, sir," Natalia smiled as she shifted the bag the hung
from her shoulder. "I'm sure you're eager to have her back?"
"Please, call me Hank," he said, scoffing at the formality. "I save
the titles for battle scenarios and the Task Force staff. I did miss
the old girl; it'll be nice having her back. Say, would you like to
get some coffee? We could spend some time not talking about classified
assignments."
Natalia considered declining his offer for a moment but then decided
it would be nice. She didn't need to report in to the Task Force
office just yet and her report was already done so she had time to
spare. "That sounds great," she said. "Any place nice around here? I
haven't spent much time on the promenade."
"I hear there's a place named Serendipity, a cafe of some sorts that's
supposed to be nice," Hank said as they walked in the direction of the
promenade. "Say... you wouldn't happen to know someone's who'd make a
good XO, do you? I need to find a replacement, but none of my
remaining crew who are qualified want the position."
"Well..." Natalia said, thinking for a moment. "I might know someone
who would make a good XO."
