Rojac quickly passed through the threshold as the doors hissed aside. Harbright's office was dimly lit, like a cave hidden in the base's cavernous interior. Rojac saw the Commander's face, eerily lit by the light from his desktop display. Rojac approached the front of his desk and pulled the isolinear rod from his pocket, placing it in front of him.

"Commander." Rojac said in a short greeting. "There is the rod you requested. I trust you found Nyx's report an intriguing read?" He took a seat across from the experienced intel operative.

"There have been rumours of Romulans creating mind probes for over forty years so I'd say its more surprising we haven't seen this before.  As for memory erasure technology we have a few examples of such technology and a number of drugs that perform the same function lying around though I'm sure you can understand Starfleet Medical not spreading that informationin their journals." Lernen said mildly.

"What are our chances of successfully tracking these two down?" Rojac asked, bringing his hand up to his lips in a thoughtful gesture.

Lernen sighed "Unfortunately at the moment that's somewhere between slim and none.  At the moment it would seem like their handler is someone with fairly low influence and little control over their tools.  If we trace back their movements before joining Chimera we may have a chance on narrowing down their handler but other than that finding a needle in a haystack would be simpler."

"Would it be worth the resources for the pursuit?" Rojac asked. His face was sincere. Of course, he thought it would be worth it. Rick was a faithful officer, and an amazing engineer; but this situation called for an outside opinion, one without personal feelings involved.

"I know it's not what you want to hear but no it wouldn't.  It would be risky to start shifting assets around this early in the game and risking losing those assets could put many more lives at risk.  That being said my assets will keep an ear to the ground but the liklihood of them hearing anything useful is slim.  If you want to really cover your bases ask either Ambassador Ayanami when she returns from the Alliance or General Ivanov who is currently on the base to have their intel assets keep an ear out for information as well."  Lernen replied closely watching Rojac's reaction.

Rojac took the response in stride. He expected it. Intelligence during war time would be too busy gathering intel on Romulan fleet movements and technology. The priority of tracking two assassins who incapacitated one starfleet officer would be very low on their rather large list. True, the Captain wished the variables were different, but war had a funny way of keeping one in touch with the big picture.

"No." Rojac replied verbally after a moment. "We have bigger fish to fry, Commander. As I'm sure you are well aware of. I'll mention it briefly in our weekly dossier to the Alliance, but I won't bother them with a personal visit. "

Rojac stood to leave. "Thank you, Commander. You have been very helpful, despite your difficult schedule."

"No problem Captain Rojac. For what it's worth I hope we get the bastards."
