[USS Chimera] SD 240812.15 Joint Log Commodore Guzman & 2ndLt. Nyx

=/\= SB 234 - Unity =/\=

Mnemosyme stood in the commodore's aide's outer office
waiting.  She'd made sure every part of her uniform was
neatly pressed and even all the rankings looked as if they
had been measured before being put in place.  {I hope the CO
likes forward thinking.}

After sending both, Rangi and little Martin away, Shane
could concentrate once more on his duty. He knew that he can
help stopping the Tal'shiar threat best by striking
Romulan forces, but to be able to do that, Shane needed
UNITY to become a mighty stronghold. He had a plan how to
achieve that and with full energy he started to work on it.

{It's odd that the ramblings of my boss and working with
Bluethistle would make me think about what I want to talk to
Commodore Guzman about.}  The word's of the commodore's aid
brought her out of her thoughts and with a curt nod she
entered the office.  {I wonder what this guy is like?}

"The Commodore is awaiting you, Lieutenant" Pakosii said
and motioned Mnemosyme to enter Shane's office. Like
usual, the four marine guards looked suspiciously at every
guest entering the CO's office, but none said a word.

Mnemosyme didn't even give the marines a second look as they
were all dressed the same only the ranks were different and
she found it best not to notice the rank if you planned on
ignoring them.

"Welcome" Shane said in greeting. Offering a seat he
said: "Please take a seat". Being a high ranking
officer, he often forgot to offer his guests with some
refreshment … and today was no exception. He went straight
to the business: "Miss Nyx, before we start, I'd like to
say that since I assumed my first position on SB 742:
AURORA, I had only one counselor I asked for counsel and it
was Commander Wellington. Athena is a top counselor and I do
expect the same high level of empathy and professionalism
from all counseling staff on UNITY. You are both younger
then Commander Wellington as well as junior in rank, so I
don't expect you to be up to that level within a week, but
soon enough."

She waited for the commodore to sit as she stood by the
chair he offered.  "I hope I don't disappoint, Sir.  I know
it is odd for someone of my rank to request to see you, but
I had some thoughts that I would like to share with you."
She paused and sat at the edge of the chair when the
commodore relaxed into his own seat.  "When working with
another patient some thoughts occurred to me as to what I
might do if I were the enemy...."  At the expression that
passed across the man's face she stopped speaking.

Shane immediately thought about Rangi and Martin, but soon
focused back on Nyx. He could not afford his mind to get
distracted that easy. "Please go on Lieutenant. Anything
that might increase the security of this station is most
welcome"

"Well, it just sort of occurred to me that with the recent
past, the Romulans are likely to put your on some kind of
death list.  And, although I believe the original try for
the desired outcome will be on yourself .... that if they
keep becoming embraced by your actions then... those who are
closest to you will be next."  She felt as if she had just
delivered the biggest speech of her life and took several
measured breaths as she watched the man in front of her.  "I
don't have any proof,  but I believe that it is a likely
course of action."  She fell silent again as she watched
several brief emotions pass over his face.

Shane's face darkened. In fact, he did not know this
woman, he had no reason to trust her and she definitely knew
too much. "How did you come to such a conclusion?" he
asked in a tentative voice "and what do you expect me to
do?"

"Sir,  I just felt that... well... that you should be
prepared... I mean things are just getting started here...
or rather maybe turned around."  She hated sounding as if
she was confident in her beliefs but she had only once been
wrong in the past.  Instead of continuing to stumble over
her words she decided to just remain silent instead.

"Sounds interesting" Shane said, "now lets talk
openly. Not many know about the Tal'shiar black list and
even less those wearing a teal collar. Maybe you should
share the source of your knowledge with me Lieutenant?"

"I told you I don't have proof or even anything like it,"
Mnemosyme started and stopped as she noticed him shaking his
head.

Shaking his head, Shane said: "No, Lieutenant, I mean
names and dates. How and when did you learn about this
threat to me and my family?" The button to call the
marines into his office was close at hand. He knew he could
reach it within a second ..

"Sir... I was profiling the situation... there are no names
.. no dates ... no proof.  Just what I think would be a
likely outcome of what has already happened," she could tell
by the rigidity of his posture that he was ready to have her
put to death... well at least carried off in cuffs.  "I
guess I should have just told my superior and had him shrug
it off like he usually does.  I'm sorry to have upset you."
{Now let's see if we can go for an easy escape even if it
means that I'm followed for the next couple of day.}  "I'm
sorry to have wasted your time; I'll just be on my way I
have patients to look after."

"Sit down Lieutenant!" Shane called, "I did not gave
you leave to go. The topic we speak about is of serious
nature and you forgive me when I am somewhat paranoid. Just
look @ it from my side … I see a young counselor telling
me about thread from Tal'shiar what should.. and sure is
kept very secret. We are in the middle of a war zone and you
might well be an enemy infiltrator, a spy or a traitor. On
the other hand, you might be a honest person trying to help
your superior and it's not that easy to decide which case
is true. "

Mnnemosyme sat back in the chair in a fluid movement.  "I see," she responded without emotion as she stared straight ahead.

"Please take it as a request, not order … from here, you
shall go to the infirmary where the doctors will confirm
your identity and I have counter-intelligence check your
activities for the last 6 months. I excuse myself for this
measures, but I hope you will understand the necessity."
He pressed a button and two marines walked immediately into
the room. "Please escort the Lieutenant into the infirmary
and ask the chief doctor in duty to perform a complete scan
and confirm the Lieutenant's identity"

"Sir, yes, sir" replied both marines like in a boot
camp.

Nym stood and said nothing the commodore would have his answers soon enough.  {This will be the last time I volunteer any of my ideas.}  She walked out of the office at a quick clip and didn't even care if the other marines were keeping up.
