[Hangar Bay 1 - Deck 14 - USS Chimera-C]

Captain Rojac went to the Hangar Bay early. He knew Captain Xerxes would be prepping for a full day of test flights and evaluations, and he wanted to catch her before she left. The Hangar Bay was not a peaceful place. The roar of maintenance equipment, impulse drive and warp engines assaulted the ear as soon as the corridor doors slid aside.

He walked around with a grimace, a sign of his distaste for the loud racket, but he bore through it. It was a necessity of having a squadron aboard, especially the most advanced squadron in the fleet. If he had to deal with the noise pollution in order to gain the tactical advantages of having a flight of Lancers aboard, then so be it.

After walking past one docked fighter with an interesting tiger striped color scheme, Rojac spotted the marine Captain conversing with an Engineering crewman assigned to the Hangar Bay. it appeared that she noticed him too, as she started walking in his direction.

"Good Morning Captain. Here for the grand tour of our little complex? I suppose it's as much to get me able to learn my way around as it is yourself. Well we may as well start in here. Okay Hanger Bay One is the home of the AX-02 Lancer Squadron and my Office over there. As you can see the engineers over there are marking out the area for the first of the eight electromagnetic launch catapults. I estimate the whole lot will probably take around a month to complete assuming no interruptions from a Romulan battle fleet…not much chance of that though. If you follow me I'll show you the behind the scenes area's next." Anya led the way out of the Hanger Bay into the corridor.

Rojac followed with his hands held tightly behind his back, Captain Xerxes leading the way like a trained tour guide. She knew her department well, and didn't mind showing her creations off.

Anya led the way into a side room where there was a few couches and a large table at the front of the room. "This room doubles as the Pilot's Lounge and the Briefing Room. And just through that door, there is a small room with a few bunks for pilots if they have to sit alert; it's quicker to get to the hangar from here than their own quarters. I wouldn't chance the replicator; quite yet anyway."

Rojac chuckled. "Yes. Operations ensures me that they're on that, but I'll be going to the mess for a while, for anything other than drinks."

Anya walked back into the corridor and walked a little bit towards the centre of the ship. "On the right we have the small Personal Weapons Armoury beyond that door and beyond the other we have the Spare Parts Storage Room and on the right we have the Missile and Torpedo Armoury. I doubt I need to tell you why those are kept away from the hull. Right on towards Hangar Bay Two now."

Rojac nodded. As a former tactical officer, he had much experience dealing with torpedos and explosive munitions. He knew all to well about the dangers of keeping them too close to the bulkhead.

Anya took him towards Hangar Bay Two but stopped outside a door "Access Code Xerxes Delta 1471 Epsilon." As the door opened Anya led the way in. "This is our small Research and Development Lab where new parts and munitions for the fighters will be developed. First on the agenda in here is a Stand Off Dispenser which is primarily for the Shadows if they ever take on Close Air Support missions for ground troops. We're looking at a micro-missile version of it as well for the Lancers."

"Very interesting." Rojac said. The room was about the same size as one of the tactical labs, with large diagnostic readouts on the three fighter types aboard. He wondered if Lt Ra-Zerphimi had offered to designate a few of his science crew to aide in the Fighter Department's research.

Anya led the Captain into Hangar Bay Two. "Hangar Bay Two as you can see is currently only home to our flight of Z-105 Shadows over there and the most expensive and technologically advanced fighter in the unit the I-210 Amaterasu. Is there anything you wanted to ask me about the Unit or the facilities Captain?"

"How is the arrangement with your technicians working out, Captain? Are their still any teething pains?" Rojac asked. He knew through the grapevine that Xerxes wasn't happy about having members from another department stationed in her realm, but he wanted to assure her that they answered directly to her first.

"For day to day running it's fine but the real problem arises when the tides against us so to speak.  When Chimera has taken a beating and is either badly damaged or immobilised and as advanced as this ship is it will happen.  You know as well as I do what kind of odds we are up against with the Romulans.  In that kind of situations it is more vital than ever for the technicians to keep the fighters in the air or space as is the case.  The Fighter Squadron is the first line of defence for Chimera and the ship's only real first strike capability; as such it is imperative that our techs aren't pulled away to fix dings in the hull or mend power relays whatever the case may be at the time.  Our ATC's are from the Ops Department, we can spare them if needs be as the Amaterasu can do their jobs for them.  Our Armourers are from the Tactical Department and it's very unlikely they would be needed elsewhere but again we can spare them.  The only ones we cant do without are our mechanics and deck crew because without them we cant fly and all those come under Engineering."  Anya stopped aware that if she carried on her argument would degenerate into a rant.

"It is my understanding, Captain, that the technicians assigned here in the hangars are specialized in this field of work. They will remain here, Commander Scardona has enough people at his disposal." Rojac said. "But one thing concerns me, Captain. I know fighter pilots are notorious for their egos, but you won't let something as trivial as pride come between your cooperation and camaraderie with the rest of the crew, will you? We're all on the same team, Captain."

"No offence Captain but specialisation doesn't seem to matter much in Starfleet.  Do you remember what I said about the Carrier Hindenburg being used to guard Bragg 6 months ago?  If you dont I said 'It's like using an Aircraft Carrier to guard an Airfield...What's the point?'. 6 months later where is the Hindenburg?  Of course it's guarding a Starbase which currently contains 5 squadrons and pretty decent ones in my book too.  Starfleet needs to learn to use fighters as an offensive weapon and I hope you're the first Captain to get the results by doing so."  Anya allowed a brief pause before going on.  "I'm as succeptable to my pride as any other pilot to tell the truth but whilst we fighter pilots may be egotistical we're not stupid...well most of us anyway.  I'm not going to put my people at risk though or those on the ship for the sake of having my ego stroked.  Besides I get along well enough with most of the other Department Heads anyway.  I'm friends with Athena as you know, I'm on good terms with the Tactical Department having worked with them for the past year, I haven't had any problems with Ops before and I hear the new chief isn't fond of Commander Harbright...we'll get along fine and I got along well with Commander Rodgers and am currently coordinating with his protege Kroitzer.  I can't say I'm overjoyed about the amount of things that Commander Summers knows about me but she seems nice enough, Leftenant Ra-Zerphimi seems okay too when I was arranging for Science personnel to help with the R+D Lab, terrible flirt but then again not any worse than some of my pilots the only one I don't know any substantial information about is Lieutenant Commander Scardona."

"He's a good officer." Rojac offered. "I served with him on the Dark horizon project. He's a highly competent and experienced special forces engineer. He Knows what he's doing, and can be trusted. A little less friendly than Rick was, but probably just as good in his own right."

Rojac sighed and looked around for a moment, placing his hands on his hips. "It all checks out, Captain." Rojac said, finally. "Let me know if you experience any problems. Good luck flying today, I hope you find your team adequate; I don't know when we'll be reporting back to base."

Anya grinned "Thank you Captain if they don't come up to scratch I'll start issuing live ammunition...for motivational purposes."
