[USS Chimera] SD 240812.24 || JL || Lt Fisher, (A)CMO & Capt Rojac, CO ||

*** CMOs Office * USS Chimera-C ***

Scott sat down on Rangi's chair in the CMOs office and put
through a call to the Captain. It was late and he expected
that Rojac would probably be sleeping or at least preparing
to do so and when the call was not answered immediately he
was not surprised.

He glanced up at the shaded windows as he waited for a reply
then dropped his gaze to a couple of holographs on the desk
in front of him. One was of Martin and Shane, the other of
Shane alone. He met the holographic eyes, knowing he must
call the Commodore as soon as he'd explained the situation
to Rojac.

Rojac had finished the late night emergency briefing with
the Commodore and the Colonel and was busy studying the
specifications of the sensor outposts. He was wide awake
when Sickbay's call came through. He closed out some of the
files he was working on before connecting to the link.

+Rojac here.+ The Captain said as his image appeared on
Rangi's desk. +Lieutenant Fisher? Is something wrong?+

"Yes Sir...some bad news. Commander Summers has been taken
ill and has indicated that I should assume the acting CMO
role..may I ask that you to make it official?"

+Certainly, though I would like to know more about Commander
Summer's current condition.+ Rojac's eyebrows furrowed in
thought. It couldn't be mere coincidence. The Tal' Shiar
were after Guzman and his family, and Rojac was highly
suspicious.

"She's in stasis Sir. She had been feeling off colour for a
while and despite various attempts to treat her, we haven't
been successful yet. Her condition deteriorated rapidly and
I had no choice but to use a stasis unit until we find an
answer.

I'm going to contact Commodre Guzman and inform him of the
Commander's condition. I'm also going to request  a detailed
report of all meals she replicated whilst on board Unity. We
thought at first that it could have been something she ate
or drank and though its certainly worth investigating that,
I'm not  certain now that that will be the cause."

+Whatever you need to do, Lieutenant.+ Rojac said. +Are you
sure she didn't catch this aboard the Chimera?+

"No Sir..it definately originated before she came aboard
Chimera. She had felt off colour for a few days before that
so we have to assume she came into contact with whateveritis
either on the Starbase or even on Aeran 3."

+Understood.+ Rojac replied. +But even so, cover all bases,
Dr. Fisher. For reasons I cannot disclose, this case takes
your top priority at the moment. Find the cause of her
affliction and solve it. If possible see if you can track
the source.+

Scott gave the briefest of nods as Rojac added:

+But keep this on a need-to-know basis with your staff that
you assign to assist you. Understood?+

"Yes Sir...understood." Scott acknowledged and the
communication ended.

He remained motionless, his arm across the desk with fingers
resting near the terminal. Once again, his eyes focused onto the holographs set to the
left side of the desk and the smiling faces of the Commodore
and little Martin Guzman.

{Keep this on a need to know basis} Rojac's words echoed in
his mind. Rangi's condition was his top priority without
Rojac's order, but he now realized that finding the cause and
a cure held a deeper meaning than he had imagined.

In the Ready Room, Captain Rojac rubbed at his temples as he closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Things were heating up fast. First, the possibility that the secret sensor network had been compromised by the Romulans, and now his CMO may have been nearly assassinated by the Tal' Shiar. He hoped nothing else drastic would happen soon...
