Mimi walked in not at a speed that would be considered a rush but at
least it was even steps and no the baby ones she had been using when
she left here a couple of days ago herself. Near one of the emergency
rooms, which were private, she saw Alan standing and headed that
direction.

Alan was standing at the room where they were treating Gustav, it had
only been maybe 20 minutes since the accident, he hadn't had time to
clean himself up, it wasn't important, what was important to him was
to be there when Mimi arrives to try and keep her calm.

{Oh, my God is that blood?} As she got closer to Alan she knew that
it was and he was fairly covered in it. She paused only briefly as
she asked, "Its...Gustav.... isn't it?" She didn't really wait for a
reply as she started for the door to the room Alan had been wait
outside of.

Alan tried to tell her but didn't get the chance as Mimi walked past
him into the room, he tried to gently grab her arm to stop her
entering and seeing Gustav in the condition he was in but she just
shrugged him off determined to go in.

She felt a hand on her arm but pulled away from it as she walked in
the door. She wasn't prepared for the sight that met her and the
audio notes that the doctor was dictating only barely reached her.

"Sensory shocked saved the patient from feeling much pain but also
rendered him unconscious. The adrenaline surge that his body produced
kept him alive for the transportation process and assessments...."

Mimi's gasp that she cut off with her own hand alerted the doctor to
the others presence. She stood a moment or two longer and then....

Alan moved in front of Mimi just in time to catch her as she passed
out, he called a nurse then carried her to an empty biobed explaining
that she was recovering from surgery and was Gustav's partner.

The nurse administered some drug that Alan couldn't pronounce to Mimi
and she started to wake up.

Mimi's eyes slowly opened but everything seemed so bright and then
they fluttered closed before finally opening and seeming to focus.
The face in front of her was a bit fuzzy but as it became more clear
she said, "Alan?"

"Yes" was all Alan could say

The one word that Alan spoke seemed to trigger the last few minutes
and Mimi sat up, "Gustav.... is he going to be...." Her throat felt as
if it had swollen suddenly and she could feel the pinprick of tears in
her eyes as she tried several times to swallow down the thickening
cotton that seemed stuck in her throat.

"Sshh It'll be alright… he'll be alright" Alan said while trying to
comfort Mimi adding "He's in the best place, we have some of the best
doc's and surgeons in Starfleet on this ship".

Mimi nodded as she looked down at the bed; letting the tears run down
her face in silence for a couple of moments. "He looked.… so....
pale."

Alan could only tell her the truth "He lost a lot of blood… he's lucky
he…" he stopped himself finishing the sentence.

She brushed the back of her right hand under each eye and took a deep
breath. She looked up and pushed herself off the bed, "I'd like to
sit with him for a couple of minutes if I could?"

"I'll help you through" Alan said seeing that Mimi seamed a little
unsteady on her feet.

Alan picked up a chair as the approached the bed that the injured
Gustav was lying in and placed it next to it so that Mimi could sit.

Mimi brush the hair from Gustav's forehead before sitting and then
held his remaining hand.

Alan just stood there and watched not knowing what to say or do until
he saw Gustav slowly stir a little, as soon as he saw this he left to
inform the first nurse he could find.

Mimi ran the back of her fingers up Gustav's cheek, "SShhh...," she
added in a soothing tone. {Please, don't over do.}

Alan returned with the doctor that was on duty, he looked at the
readings and confirmed that Gustav was coming round but not expect
much as his body had suffered extreme trauma so Gustav might be
disorientated, as the doctor was saying this Alan decided to wait
outside thinking to himself that it would be the best thing if Mimi
and Kroitzer had a little time together.

She leaned into him and brushed a kiss against his cheek before
letting her forehead to come to a gentle rest against his.

Disorientated and unable to remember what exactly happened Gustav
asked in quick succession "Where am I, what happened, why can't I move
my arm".

"Sshhh..... easy," she tried in a way to calm him to answer his
questions without shocking him. She pressed a soft quick kiss to his
temple before answering, "There was an accident ... and you're in
sickbay?"

"Mimi, why am I in sickbay, what happened" Gustav asked again.

"Really, Sweetheart, all I know is it was an accident.... a bad
one.... I... I," She fell silent in choking back the tears. {I will
be strong for him.... I won't let him see me cry....} she kept
repeating theses two thoughts as she forced a small smile to her face.
After a few moments of her own internal battle, "You need to be still
so you can get stronger." She didn't have the heart to tell him about
his arm or the fact that the machine that was attached to it at the
moment was providing the necessary cooling and pressure to keep what
nerves and tendons were left viable for a cyber transplant of sorts.
She only scarcely remembered some of things she heard the doctor
recording when she first arrived.

Gustav weakly moved his left hand to Mimi's and held it thinking he
had to be strong for her, but soon everything was getting very tiring
and Gustav fell unconscious again.

Mimi reluctantly left to get some rest at the doctor's request.
