Rangi had returned to the infirmary having decided she still
had an hour before leaving for the day. She planned to be
home by lunchtime because 'officially' she was on R&R but it
didn't work out like that. Her time was, in much the same way
as Shane's, taken up by duty first and making the best of
what was left.

She walked to her office, entered and closed the door behind
her and went towards the replicator where she requested
chilled apple juice. The sparkling glass soon appeared and
Rangi took  a sip. It was delicious.

She carried it to her desk, setting it down carefully beside
a pile of padds before taking her seat and scooting the
chair forward.  She planned to read as many reports as
possible in the hour she had allowed herself, so pressed a
button to turn the windows opaque so that nothing would
distract her.

Alecto walked into the Task Force Sickbay deliberately
ignoring the stares.  She still wore her skin-tight adcam
outfit and adcam trench coat which was set to white at the
moment but still admittedly was covered in Klingon blood.
She walked into the Chief Medical Officers Office and
said bluntly "We have a problem."

Rangi looked quickly towards the door as it opened without a
warning chime. She was ready to admonish the intruder but
instead stared at the newcomer and getting to her feet asked
" What's happened?"

"I've received word from our doctors on Charos VI that the
virus has mutated again and the vaccine your people
developed is no longer effective...I did warn you that this
wasn't going to be an easy task."  Alecto said tiredly.

" I meant with you." Rangi replied pointing at Alecto's
dishevelled appearance and dispensing with formal greetings
just as the Ambassador had done. " Please...sit down. Can I
get you something?"

"Orange juice please and what happened to me was not
remarkably explicable to me.  Bloodstains yeah I can explain
away...obviously not mine but the reasons the bloodstains
were caused I can't explain Chisulo can fill you in more on
that.  What I need is for your labs to be able to accept in
a sample of the Charos VI virus to analyse"  Alecto said
without pause.

Rangi eyed Alecto in silence as she crossed to the
replicator. She waited for the juice. "When did you get word
of this?" she asked as the glass materialised.

"En route back from Narendra...so time wise about two hours
ago although they probably would have that information there
about a day or two before I did."  Alecto stopped as she
sipped from the proffered glass.

"To be fair this has been the longest period that the virus
has taken to mutate.  We've been lucky up till now." Alecto
said blandly

 Rangi returned to her seat.
"There will probably be a preliminary report here." she said
reaching for the stack of padds. " The Nightingale replaced
McCoy as the hospital ship in attendance." She began to skim
through them. " What else did they say?" she asked glancing
to Alecto.

"I don't have much except the symptoms have gone from just
like e-bola virus to including the symptoms of hemmoragic
fever as well."  Alecto said grimly.

This was bad news indeed. A treatment had been 'relatively'
easy to find following a similar illness suffered by Romulan
refugees. The antidote had proved suitable and the tide had
turned in the devastation that the virus had caused. ...but
mutations threw everything into a different light.

"I hate to point this out but this isn't the first time this
has happened.  The Alliance has found several 'cures' so far
none of which have been permanent.  I hope you understand
now that the disdain which you in the Federation look down
upon the Alliance isn't really justified."  Alecto said
measuring the response of the person across from her.

Rangi looked across her desk at the Ambassador.
"With respect..." she began quietly "..I think you are
mistaken.  Medical personnel seek to help the sick and
finding a 'cure' as you succinctly put it, is not a simple
procedure particularly when mutations come into it. So
frustration certainly but disdain, no." She held the
Ambassador's gaze for a moment longer then looked back
at the padds in her hand.

"Perhaps you may want to pass that on to your subordinates
and also mention that it's a dumb idea to send unencrypted
messages inside Alliance Space criticising our less
developed medical abilities.  Whilst we may not be as
advanced as you, we are not 'primitive and inferior'."
Alecto said with irritation as she handed over a padd
with details of intercepted transmissions.

"You may want to mention to Lieutenant Commander Hiroshi
that it was the Erassian Alliance who helped save this
Starbase whilst your preferred allies hid and did nothing."

Rangi looked at the padd Alecto held out and after a moment
reached to take it.
She did not doubt the Ambassadors word exactly yet if the
messages were indeed all that Alecto said then Rangi would
be far from pleased.
She decided to read it when her visitor had left and laid it
to one side.
