> -*** Med Advisors Office * SB Unity ***
>
> Rangi was sitting on the comfortable sofa near the huge
> viewport in the seating area of her office. In her hand was
> an almost empty mug of hot chocolate and on her lap lay a
> report from the Martins playgroup leader, detailing how the
> little boy had settled in, how well he was interacting with
> the other children and how he was coping with the routine.
> She was taking a break from her work but, glancing at the
> chrono, saw her next appointment was due within five
> minutes.
> {Shane will love to see this....} she thought, switching of
> f the padd. {....the first official report for our son}
>
> She smiled to herself then drained the last of the
> chocolate just as the door chime sounded.
> "Come in" she called.
>
> "Hello, am I bothering you?" Pamela said, looking around.
>
> "Ummm...no...no, not at all...please come in." Rangi
> replied, surprised by the newcomer. " What can I do for
> you?" she asked.
>
> "I am just looking around and I have noticed I have not met
> you yet. I have heard alot about you- and it was good. And
> since I really do not go to work until tomorrow, I thought
> that I would come by and see who you were,'' Pamela said.
>
> "I see." Rangi replied.
> She had walked across the spacious office as Pamela had
> been speaking and now came a stop in front of her. She held
> out a hand to shake and with a friendly smile said:
> " Well, I am Commander Summers...Med. Advisor to the
> FirstTask Force and CMO of Star Base Unity....and you are?"
>
> "Cadet Pamela Brock, Assistant Medical Officer of the
> Chimera," Pamela said putting out her hand so she could
> shake. "You may or may not have heard of me, as this is my
> 2nd or 3rd week about the USS Chimera." Pamela said quickly.
> "Oh, by the way, I love your office." She added." How long
> have you been the Med Advisor?" Pamela asked.
>
> "Thankyou." Rangi replied, seeing Pamela eyeing the picture
> that hung behind Rangis desk. " Over a year now." she
> replied in answer to the question and thinking that this was
> going to be a far from formal interview added: " Would you
> like to sit down?"
> She indicated the seating area and they began to cross the
> room.
>
> "That is neat, and I take it you enjoy it very much,"
> Pamela said smiling."I am trying to find out who is who
> around here and see what they do basically. I would think it
> would make my job a little easier." Pamela said, looking at
> a padd in her hand and turning it on.
>
> Rangi resumed her previous place on the sofa and Pamela sat
> down opposite, looking down at the padd.
> Amused by her unusual visitor said: " Well I am CMO of the
> infirmary here as I said but as MedAdvisor I oversee all the
> medical units, including Chimeras. You'll have been able to
> look around the sickbay there and I'm sure will have met
> Alexander Rice. What do you think to it?"
>
> "Alexander Rice" Pamela thought for a second and said, "Oh,
> yes, I remember, he seems really nice and laid back. I
> forgot who or what, but if I am right, he is new also."
> Pamela said looking up.
> "Sickbay aboard the Chimera is very equipped and roomy. I
> think I will like it."
> Pamela nodded towards her padd and said quietly, "I know
> that you have noticed me reading my padd more than looking
> up, please do not think me rude, as this has all my notes on
> it about what I have done, and who I have met, and so. Many
> people are taken aback when they see me with a padd all the
> time."
>
> Pamela thought for a second and asked "You may consider
> this a crazy question, but as a CMO, how many people do you
> usually see during the day? And normally what do people come
> to sickbay for, besides physicals and illness- I am just
> preparing myself. "
>
> " It's a good idea." Rangi replied with a quick smile.
> "Mmmm...how many people do I see? Well probably not quite as
> many as you do. The AMOs deal with many of the standard
> cases. CMO here is alot different to the ship though because
> we have a high ratio of civilians too.
> Why do people come to sickbay?" She paused for a second or
> two.
> " Well, sometimes they come because they're worried,
> perhaps unsure if a minor ailment is something to be
> concerned about. Chimeras missions often involve combat so
> ofcourse there will be injured crew to deal with...and
> occasionally there will be a hypochondriac who will have
> read a medical article and be absolutely convinced that they
> have the most serious form of any problem going."
> She smiled at Pamela.
>
>
> "Well, seems like the same as a clinic, but the injuries
> will be worse at times. That is what it sounds like to me. I
> understand about the hypochondriacs' as I had several
> patients who were before I started in Starfleet. "Pamela
> said and looked up again. She looked at her chronometer
> quickly and then asked "You seem to enjoy your job- that is-
> from what all I have heard about you. And you seem to do
> everything very well. Oh well, am I keeping you?" Pamela
> asked.
>
> "I'm expecting someone. " Rangi replied and as if on cue,
> the door chime sounded. Rangi added "...and that will be
> him."
> She stood up.
> "It's been a pleasure to meet you Cadet. I wish you well in
> your duties aboard Chimera."
>
>
> "Thank you for your time. It was nice to meet you." Pamela said.

They crossed the room towards the door. Rangi opened it to
> find Scott Fisher waiting to enter. " Come in Scott." she
> said. " Cadet Brock is just leaving."
>
> He stepped inside and Rangi, glancing at Pamela, introduced
> them.
> "A pleasure to meet you." Scott said offering his hand.
>
> Pamela took Scott's proffered hand and shook it while saying "Hi, I am Pamela Brock. Nice to meet you."

Thee door closed and Scott followed Rangi into the room, past
> her desk towards the seating area.
> " Can I get you something to drink?" she asked turning
> towards the replicator.
>
> " Coffee would be good, thanks." he replied and as she
> busied herself with the request, he glanced out at the view
> before seating himself onto the soft sofa.
> Rangi returned carrying a steaming mug which she handed to
> him.
> "Thanks." he said and watched her sit down as he took a sip.
>
> She looked across at him, shook her head and smiled in
> amusement.
> "I think I've just been interviewed ...and passed it." she
> said.
>
> " Oh?" Scott replied.
>
> "Cadet Brock." Rangi explained. " She dropped in to see who
> I am and to familiarise herself with things. I've been added
> to her padd of things to recall."
> A smile began to widen on Scotts face.
> " I don't think I've ever met an AMO quite like her before."
> Rangi finished.
>
> "So Alex Rice is in for a surprise?" Scott asked.
>
> "I think he very well might be." Rangi answered.
