[Bridge - Deck One - USS Chimera NCC 96899-C]
The red tracers of the Graviton torpedoes fired off toward their targets as Lieutenant Rayna Dior fired the port manevering thrusters and sent the USS Chimera into a spinning barrell roll arc surrounding the incoming troop transports. The torpedoes impacted on their targets' impulse drives sending millions of graviton particles into the surrounding space - drastically slowing their progress.
Lieutenant Commander Xindi Ra-Zerphimi, the Chimera's chief science officer studied the readouts on his console. "Attack successful. Heavy damage to their impulse drives. At their current rate of speed they'll reach planetside in 45 minutes."
"Dior, intercept the lead vessel." Captain Cropa Rojac ordered. "Tactical, dual fire quantum torpedoes. Target their singularity drive."
"Aye sir." Replied Dior and the Tactical Officer in unison.
The Chimera swooped down on the troop transport like a bird of prey and fired its deadly blue projectiles into its dorsal section. Ruptures were evident along the ships hull just before the singularity imploded on itself creating a small black hole that lasted just long enough to obliterate the ship. All hands were lost.
"Target two," Rojac began.
Commander Ohmsford glanced to the other side of the Captain's seat where Counselor Wellington said stiffly in her seat, looking somewhat pale. It didn't take an empath to know she was feeling discomfort. "Counselor... are you all right? What do you sense?" he asked.
Athena gripped the chairs arms with a white-knuckled intensity. She stretched her senses out hoping to get a better feel as to what she was sensing. {Its there ... something dark.} She reached out toward the darkness trying to sense its nature. She felt waves of anguish, disbelief, hatred and death as one of the Romulan transports was destroyed. Emotions quickly flashed across her features as she finally replied, "Its on the surface ... its strong." Her voice was clear and strong and her face had become devoid of any emotion.
Rojac mind traced back immediately to the reports from Antigonis, where one of his marines was badly damaged and traumatized by some telepathic being at a Breen base. It then linked to recent reports from Captain Tedros Chisuo's excursion to the Narendra system where they captured a telepathic being strong enough to kill ith a thought. The latter was being held in stasis in the bowels of Starbase UNITY. Could they be facing off against this mysterious threat once more?
Rojac turned to Bren and uttered one word, "Narendra."
Bren nodded, understanding Rojac's reference. "We need to take care of these troop transports, Captain."
While everyone was dealing with the Romulan troop transports Jade was keeping an eye on the scans that were being ran on the planet. She was trying to see if she could find out what Athena was talking about, but so far no luck. But she was interrupted by receiving damage reports it took a few seconds to look over them and send damage repair teams to areas where they were needed she then sent the report to the CO's and XO's chair.
"Dior," Rojac ordered, "attack pattern sigma-theta. Tactical full spread on the pulse phasers for the front run, arm aft launchers with quantum torpedoes."
"Aye sir." Lieutenant Dior replied. She turned the bow of the Chimera into a dive toward the next troop transporter as tactial unleashed the pulse phaser turrets on the target. As the blurringly fast Chimera streaked past, tactical gained a lock with the rear launchers and fired volley of quantum torpedoes at the transport's impulse drives.
"Impact confirmed." Zerphimi called. "Their impulse drive is out, and the distortion field in still in effect their dead in the water. Heavy damage to everal decks. I'm picking up leaking plasma."
"Three left." Rojac said. "Dior, you know the drill."
"Aye sir." The helm officer called over her shoulder.
Athena was zoned out from what was going on around her as she concentrated on the being that she was sensing. She could practically see troops advancing as she sensed confinement, but rage was quickly on its heels. It sent a burning sensation licking along her nerves and then slowly through her body as the words, "sensing a fight," was dragged from her lips and a bead of sweat ran down the side of her face from her temple.
"Commander." Rojac said turning toward the man in charge of the mission. "They need our help."
"The Eagle will take care of it, they're already in orbit," Bren replied. "We have to take care of these transports, they can't get away. Once we've taken care of them, we can go to their aid."
"Sir," Tactical called, "I have a lock on target two's impulse drive."
"Take your shot." Rojac said, turning once more to face the viewscreen. "Make it quick and clean." He wanted to get back to the planet, to get a taste of this mysterious new enemy and to help the suffering allies on the surface. But Bren had given the orders, and it was his duty to follow them first. "Fire."
Four torpedoes escaped from their launchers and honed in toward the plasma signatures of the third troop transport. The Chimera streaked past the detruction and opened phaser fire in a strafing run on the fourth and fifth, firing the aft launchers a she passed - causing an explosion that made the fourth transport list to port. Once tactical got a lock on the fifth, Rojac gave the order and it too one dead in space.
"Mr. Montesque, " Rojac called to the communications officer on the bridge, "hail the surviving transports, tell them we will be back to collect them shortly."
"Aye sir."
"Helm, standard orbit."
