[ Starbase Unity - Brig Detention Cells ]
Bren woke up facing the bare grey wall on the inside of one of the detention cells. His first thoughts were that he could swear his bedroom wall was a different colour, then slowly the memory of where he was returned along with a throbbing headache in the dull pain in his left eye socket.
Gustav had woken up about ½ an hour before Commander Ohmsford had awoke, he noticed the Cmdr stirring while he held his head in his hands thinking to himself {I'm never drinking again}.
Sitting up, Bren looked towards the other side of the cell at Lieutenant Kroitzer, separated from him by a force field. "How long have we been here?" he asked.
"Four and a half hour, Commander Ohmsford" Mumacik replied. It was thank to internal sensors that announced that Bren was recovering from his 'status'. It was not far from Mumacik's office, so he was just there when both men awoke.
Bren looked up in surprise at the lieutenant who had seemingly appeared out of nowhere. It was only when seeing Mumacik's emotionless face, so etched into his memory during his years of service on the Archer, that he remembers being notified of the lieutenant's appointment to Chief of Fleet Level Security.
"Lieutenant, I didn't see you there," Bren said. He tried to get up but as soon as he attempted to lift himself off his bunk the room started spinning, so he gently sat himself down again.
Still holding his head and looking out the side of his eye at the lieutenant, Gustav asked "What are we doing here, and how did we get here?"
"Reports about your activity are a bit unclear" Mumacik said. "I have now six officers arrested by promenade security and a short report about a bar brawl. Since a member of Task Force Command staff was involved in this accident, the jurisdiction for this case was transferred to me. Maybe you could please explain your activities, "Commander, Lieutenant?"
Bren glanced at Gustav and then back at Mumacik. Seeing as he was the senior officer present, he decided to take it upon himself to properly explain the situation. "Well, you see... the young lieutenant and I were enjoying a drink at the Wrench Bench when a group of Unity's pilots decided to harass us. Naturally things got out of hand and we simply defended ourselves. I'm not sure if they recognized me as a Task Force staff member... as you can see I'm not wearing my uniform."
Still trying to remember what had happened Gustav had sudden visions of his head meeting someone's nose but decided to stay quite, not because he had anything to hide but because his head hurt too much when he spoke.
Mumacik looked at both officers and replied to Ohmsford: "Commander, in case of someone attacking you within the areas of Starbase 234: UNITY you were supposed to call UNITY's security. You are of course allowed to defend yourself, but still you were supposed to call the security. From what I have in my report, UNITY's security was called by a passing Vulcan male, not you or Lieutenant Kroitzer"
Deciding to speak up even know that it would hurt Gustav replied "I don't think we had time to call security".
Anya walked into the detention area in one hell of a bad mood. The trip from Trill had been long and her headache was still pounding despite the numerous legal medications she tried. Self righteous deities could prove to be a real pain in the ass or in this case pain in the head. She announced herself loudly. "My name is Major Anya Xerxes. I'm here to the person in charge of this department regarding the release of detained personnel. Captain Rojac is busy and Commander Trez...Chimera's XO is on Earth which if you check your star charts is quite some light years from here."
A marine sergeant walked over to Anya and said: "Ma'am, please follow me. You are seeking Lieutenant Mumacik, who is in charge of Fleet level security." Entering the cell block, the Sergeant announced: "Lieutenant Mumacik, this is Major Xerxes from Chimera. She is here to take care of Chimera's arrested guys"
Mumacik turned and faced the marine Major. "I am Lieutenant Mumacik, Major Xerxes. According to SSF wartime regulations, only a ship's CO or XO can request taking custody of their own crew members. As far I know, you are none of the two, unless there has been a command position change on the USS Chimera that I don't know about."
"Changes come so thick and fast these days so I may need to check on that but to the best of my knowledge it hasn't happened yet. Besides as I told the sergeant here the Captain is busy, strangely enough with helping plan an offensive to persecute our enemies rather than our own troops. The XO is light years from here on Earth so may be slightly disinclined to come to bail out a hammered junior officer." Anya replied evenly.
Nodding, Mumacik replied: "Please present a formal letter of authority delegation from Captain Cropa Rojac."
Anya handed over the first of her padds "Here is the formal request for Lieutenant Kroitzer's release. Whilst I do not have the same document from Commodore Guzman or Captain Rodgers I do have this…" Anya handed over the second padd. "…which is a requisition order allowing me to requisition any materials or tools I feel necessary for the completion of an assigned mission…the authorizations at the bottom are those of Admiral Kathryn Janeway and General Kira Nerys the second of which being directly at the top of the chain of command. Plus before you ask the tool
in question is Commander Ohmsford."
Bren didn't know whether he should be flattered or insulted at being called a tool, but either way if it got him out of this brig cell he wasn't going to complain. He couldn't afford to be stuck there for hours on end while he waited for Captain Rodgers to make an appearance, and he had neither the inclination nor the desire in his current, head-aching state to make a plea for his release himself.
Mumacik inspected the first PADD briefly. Then he pushed a few buttons. He connected the PADD with UNITY's main computer who requested a confirmation from Chimera's Computer. All that was done within a second and the result was positive. Handing the PADD back to Xerxes, Mumacik inspected the other PADD with far more care. The encrypted signature seemed to be all right as well as the SSF encoding. He looked up at Xerxes and said: "Thank you for the documents Major Xerxes. I am transferring Lieutenant Gustav Kroitzer into the custody of Major Anya Xerxes from USS Chimera as of this star date. Please remember that Captain Cropa Rojac is required to report about his legal decision in this case to SB 234: UNITY's JAG department by SSF Wartime regulations. Since he still did not submit his legal decision in the case of Marine Captain Channer Davis, I will forward this issue to the office of 1st Task Force Commander."
On Mumacik's face was no emotion visible when he looked at Gustav, but who knows what went through the head of the security officer when releasing a prisoner?
Gustav stood up and exited the cell and then stood wearily behind Anya hoping the pain in his head would stop.
"The case of Commander Ohmsford is a bit complicated, " Mumacik said with an emotionless face like always, "since I have no possibility to verify the orders from Admiral Kathryn Janeway and General Kira Nerys. There are two possible ways now, Major Xerxes. You can wait till Joint Defense Command confirms those orders, or sign a warrant that you take full responsibility for Commander Ohmsford as well as full responsibility in case your orders will not be confirmed." Not giving Anya time to reply, Mumacik went on: "Commander Ohmsford will be required to sign a warrant of agreement with this actions as well" he remained quiet expecting Major's decision.
"Nothing ventured nothing gained. I'll sign the warrants Leftenant." Anya said quickly. She may not have been sure about the real foundation of her standing but nothing was achieved by hesitating.
Nodding, Mumacik said: "Very well then, Major Xerxes." He produced all three PADDs with high speed and he handed two to Anya. "Please sign both warrants, Major Xerxes"
Anya quickly scanned over the two padds. She wasn't stupid enough to sign anything without reading it first. When she was satisfied she signed the two padds.
Mumacik gave a nod to the marine standing next to the force field command console and he lowered them on both cells. Gustav was free to go immediately, Commander Ohmsford was required to do his portion of warrants signing.
Grateful that he didn't have to sit in the cell any longer, Bren got a bit unsteadily to his feet and walked over to the lieutenant, taking the padd and signing it. "Thank you, Lieutenant," he said to Mumacik. "Hopefully I won't have to see you again soon."
