MaiKai could've had her reports from her office sent to her quarters, but decided against it. This would allow Mai to spend time with her family by taking Rachel out of her classes. MaiKai also figured she could show off her new baby to her co-workers in Sickbay. Maybe there she could find out the progress and well being of her brother-in-law.
There was a knock at the doorway.
MaiKai looked up t osee who could possibly be knocking. She thought mostly everyone knew she was on leave from work in the Sickbay still for awhile.
"Hey, mind if I come in?" Sarah asked with a smile.
MaiKai smiled seeing her sister-in-law, "not at all".
Sarah walked in and took a chair next to Mai.
"Nah, just a social visit. The baby is asleep and Trent was called in to a senior staff meeting. With Emma keeping an eye on Michael, I find myself with nothing to do for the moment."
The fact was, Sarah was bored to death. Back on Earth, when she wasn't working, she was home with the children or attending some social function. Here, there wasn't that much to do if you didn't have a job. And, unlike Trent, Sarah wasn't that in to using holosuites alone.
MaiKai noticed that Sarah was acting differently from her usual self. Probably because she was in a different environment than what she was use to back on Earth.
"So, what are you working on?" Sarah asked, trying to get a peek at one of Mai's reports while trying not to look like she was being nosey.
"Well, being the pediatrician I see all the children on the starbase however, it's hard to remember and recognize most of them, so I've decided to do some personality dialysis. I know that's usually a counselor's job, but I have a habit of liking to do things myself".
"Sounds fun," Sarah said. "Anyhow, I may be needing your help in a few weeks."
"Oh how so?" Mai swiveled around in her chair to face Sarah more. She was genuinely interested.
"I told Trent the other day that I was bringing the children to live here on UNITY."
"And how did that work out?" Mai knew her brother -in-law well enough to know he was stubborn in a lot of his thinkings.
"I don't think he was too fond of the idea, but he didn't feel like arguing the point," Sarah explained. "The thing is, I'll probably need your help to get settled in and everything."
"Sure.. WHere do we start?" Mai raised an eye brow as she clasped her hands together.
"Well, the first thing is changing around Trent's quarters," Sarah said. "He's been living like a bachelor these past few months and the place needs some work. A woman's touch."
"Of course. That would be understandable," Mai was maybe growing a bit uncomfortable.
"Cool. I'll try to make it as enjoyable as possible ... which may not be so fun for Trent," Sarah grinned.
Mai let out a laugh. She could just imagines Trent's face when he came back to his quarters to find out that everything had moved and rotated around the rooms.
"There is one other thing," Sarah said.
"Sure...?" Mai seemed eager. After all, she was usually the one asking help of Sarah.
"I've turned in my transfer request in with Starfleet Medical. The question is not if they approve it, but in what capacity I will serve around here. While I'd prefer to be a surgical doctor, I'm not too certain what kind of need Doctor Summers has at the moment. I'm going to speak with her next. Even so, while my training and time spent at Starfleet Medical was in cardiology and biomolecular physiology, I'd be content with serving in any capacity. So, if I do get a job around here, I could use your help in getting to know everyone. It might make things easier."
Mai grinned, "Sure thing". True Mai knew mostly everyone in the Main Sickbay by now the question of the matter was how those others felt about Mai. People' opinions of her always seemed to vary.
"Thanks a lot. Anything you can do will be a big help. Even so, I don't want to be too much of a burden on you, especially with the baby and all."
"I don't see it being an issue once I get everything in order and situated,"Mai tried reassuring her sister-in-law.
"I just hope Doctor Summers is in need of a heart surgeon," Sarah said before she stood. "Well, I suppose now will be as good of a time to find out. Wish me luck."
MaiKai thought there was some kind of opening in cardiology, but she didn't want to gets Sarah's hopes up especially since she only worked pediatrics and wasn't aware of the particulars of other departments.
"Good Luck!" Mai thought for a moment and caught Sarah before she left her office, "Oh and Sarah?' she turned around and looked at Mai, "Maybe we could plan a family dinner soon?" Mai asked.
Sarah nodded then smiled and left. MaiKai was intent on bringing the family she has made together. She didn't want it to be fallen and broken apart like her family on Earth. She hadn't talked to her own parents in years and recently became re-acquainted with her cousin that's based on Chimera. She wasn't going to fail. She refused to be like her parents.
