It didn't take long after Cortez had been released from his cell that
he almost wished he hadn't been. Unity station it seemed was in utter
chaos now and for all the security measures in place it seemed nobody
knew what the hell to do about the wire demons. Richard's first
priority though was to the Chimera and securing it, both from the
demons and from any one else looking to perhaps find refuge on board.
Of course this couldn't be happening at a worse time as most of the
senior staff on the ship was nowhere near Unity. For a brief moment
he wondered what would happen if things really got out of control and
came to the conclusion that the base would probably be quarantined and
eventually 'cleansed'. All personnel on board would become casualties
of the Romulan war and the entire event just covered up. But there
wasn't much he could do about that now, his goal was to get to his
ship and muster any crewmen he could find to seal it off and protect
it from the demons.

He managed to get to the Chimera with out much trouble. Most people
seemed to be confused and afraid and unsure of what to do or what was
even happening. It was kind of funny he told himself as he passed a
crying, hysterical lieutenant, how even the highly regarded Special
Forces could collectively loose their shit when confronted with
something they didn't understand.

Once at his destination he quickly took command of the crew that had
so far made it back and organized a defensive position in front of the
airlock joining the ship with the station. Unfortunately just flying
the Chimera away was out of the question since the entire station was
on lock down now and any ship caught leaving would probably just be
viewed as a threat.

With the ship operating with a skeleton crew already and most of the
people assigned out still on vacation, he managed to muster just
eighteen security guards to hold the line. Fortunately they were all
well armed, able to pick whatever they wanted from the ships armory.

It didn't take long before people started finding their way to the
checkpoint and demanding and begging to be allowed to enter. The
Major's orders were clear though, the ship was sealed and now nobody
was allowed on board, not even assigned crew members. It was a tough
decision, but Cortez figured it was best not to risk the disease
spreading to those already on board the Chimera. So everyone was
turned away. He chuckled to himself as he imagined the disapproving
look that Commander Summers would no doubt give him if she knew that
he personally denied entry to a woman carrying a small child and even
threatened to have her fired upon if she didn't leave immediately.

Eventually, once he was sure everyone understood the situation Cortez
entered back onto the ship and proceeded to send out a message
explaining what was happening to each of the Senior Officers who were
now attending conferences on separate planets. Once that was
accomplished he comprised one more message, different from the rest
for Captain Rojac personally.

"Computer Record Video", Cortez said standing in front of the computer.

Captain Rojac, this is Major Cortez. We have a dire situation
unfolding here on Starbase Unity, it is being locked down under fear
of some sort of...", his voice paused for a second, "...Virus that
seems to be highly infectious and extremely dangerous. I have managed
to gather what crewmen I could find as most were still on R and R and
have so far succeeded in sealing the ship off from the station. I
don't expect to be able to hold out indefinitely as the nature of this
disease turns those unlucky enough to be infected into raging
monsters. I send this message to ask you for guidance on what you
want me to do with your ship", he paused again.

"OK, computer send message to Captain Cropa Rojac", Cortez instructed
and then listened for the beep signaling that the file transfer had
been successfully sent.

It was at this moment that Richards communicator beeped.

"Major, we have a problem", came the voice of Sergeant Hunter, one of
the men positioned at the airlock. "You'd better get over here".

"On my way", Cortez responded and immediately made his way there.
