When Richard arrived at the airlock he was immediately met by the
Sergeant who had summed him, who simply pointed towards a lone child
standing at the front of the hall.
"She's all alone Major, can't we just let her pass".
Richard stepped closer to the little girl who was crying, obviously
terrified. "Where are your parents", he said kneeling down in front
of her.
The child didn't answer though and just continued to cry, seemingly
too afraid to even talk.
Cortez stood up and closed his eyes for a second and was just about to
allow the child entry when he noticed something on the side of her
forehead, almost completely covered up by her hair. He stopped and
peered in closer. He then took a few steps back and realized that in
all the commotion he hadn't bother to arm himself and looked to the
nearest guard.
"Shoot her".
The guard who already had his weapon drawn looked back at Richard,
"What", he said looking confused.
"You heard me Private", Richard said louder, "I said eliminate the target now!".
The crewmen just a skinny little runt, not the bravest or the
strongest person to have ever donned a starfleet uniform suddenly
lowered his weapon and looked Cortez straight in the eyes, "No Sir",
he said, his rifle shaking in his grip.
It was at this point, that the child turned into a wire demon. It was
as if the thing inside her knew what was happening and sensing that
its attempt to get on the ship had failed decided to attack. The
veins burst forth from her body and shot towards the skinny guard who
had no time to react and was quickly punctured several times and
nearly decapitated as one of the wires impacted him directly in the
throat.
Finally understanding the threat before them, the rest of the men
standing at the checkpoint opened fire onto the demon and immediately
vaporized it, erasing any indication that it had even existed.
Stepping towards his dead crewmen, Richard leaned down and picked up
his rifle, "This is why we don't let anyone through", he said pointing
the weapon down at what was left of the man and firing, vaporizing the
corpse, leaving only the blood that had been splattered across the
floor and walls. Turning around he stepped to Sergeant Hunter, "Do
you understand whats going on now", he said looking into the man's
eyes.
"Yes sir", Hunter responded
"Good", Richard said resting the rifle over his shoulder, "Because I'm
leaving you in charge here", he said signaling for two of the nearby
guards. "Nobody gets through, if you have too, blow the airlock and
completely seal off the ship from the station".
"What", the Sergeant said confused, "Where are you going".
"To find a doctor", the Major replied and signaled for the two men to
follow him.
