=Nenon Embassy=
=Starbase Unity=
The Nenon Planetary League embassy wasn't an embassy
on the grand scale of those found on other worlds or even
the major powers found on Unity. Instead, it made up three
rooms, a waiting/reception area, the ambassador's office
and a small lavatory for the ambassador and/or his guests.
It was modest, and other races would have likely complained,
but Qalvalor considered it more than acceptable. He was just
glad to be here and able to begin talks with not only the
Federation, but the other races represented here.
Trade restrictions against his people still existed, but
they were becoming more and more relaxed. This allowed for
great opportunity to bring to the Nenons goods and culture
that hadn't been available since first contact with the
Federation only decades prior.
Qalvalor tried to arraign his desk in a way that best suited
him. The desk was one of the few large items he brought with
him from home. It resembled oak, but the wood was from a tree
indigenous to Nenon V, the second most populous world in the
Nenon system.
+tap+ "Ambassador Qalvalor."
+tap+ "Yes Li'sal," he replied to his aide, the only other
Nenon who was part of this delegation.
+tap+ "Your honor, Commodore Shane Guzman is here to see you."
+tap+ "Commodore Guzman? Yes, of course. Send him in."
The ambassador walked around his desk to meet the commodore.
It was important to make a good impression. It was especially
important to make a good impression for any representive of
the Federation. His government made that quite clear when they
assigned him this job.
Shane waited patiently till the ambassador's aide asked
him to go ahead. Both of his marine guards were left in
front of the (little) embassy because he wanted to speak
with the ambassador in private. Until Federation council
will send a representative, Shane was the one representing
the Federation in this sector … and he had to maintain
good working relations with all the diplomatic crews on
board the UNITY.
Once asked to proceed, Shane nodded to the Nenon aide and
entered the ambassadorial residence.
"Commodore Guzman, it is good to see you. Please have a
seat?" he motioned to the only other chair in his office
besides his own. "My other furnature isn't expected to
arrive
for another day or so."
"Thank you, Ambassador" Shane replied. He smiled at
Qalvalor and said, "no problem with the furniture, I had
to abandon two ships, so I know how it feels to live with
little things"
"May I offer you some refreshment?" the ambassador asked.
"Black tea, thank you" Shane replied and waited till
Qalvalor fetches the drink. Accepting it, Shane waited again
for the ambassador to take his own seat.
"What can I do for you today, commodore?
Shane took a sip from his tea and replied: "Well,
Ambassador Qalvalor, I came here to clear a few things
before we start any official diplomatic business. I might
not be long the official representative for Federation,
since I am an Starfleet officer and not an diplomat, but
there is a security issue that I need to address."
"Of course, commodore," the ambassador said as he sat
behind his desk. "Please continue."
"I speak about diplomatic staff of you and other
ambassadors. You might have heard that my Intel advisor was
murdered by a staff member of the Klingon envoy and my Chief
Enginering officer was very seriously injured by a Nenon
that was holding a high ranking position in your government
not so long ago. While I respect your diplomatic status and
the diplomatic immunity of you and your staff, I really
can't tolerate any further accidents like that.
Qalvalor knew that his people would have to answer for the
actions of Hoack and his followers for a long time to come.
He was ready to accept this.
"I understand," Qalvalor responded.
"Through, I'd like to keep warm relation to all of our
diplomatic guests, I now state that should any of your staff
be involved in an attack of my crew, he will be given 24
hours to leave … without any pardon."
"Commodore, I assure you that my aide and myself are here to
promote positive diplomatic relations between my people and
the other races represented here. We have no other purpose."
The ambassador stood and walked to the side of the desk.
"The actions of a few of my people have tarnished the
reputation of our civilization. I understand and acknowledge
that. While I alone may not be able to change our preceptions,
I will endevour to make that effort all the same. We shrive
only for a peaceful co-existance."
Shane nodded: "Well said, Ambassador. I am the first to
welcome such an attitude. I am an ex-tactical officer and
when I have to fight an enemy like the Romulans, I'd
prefer everyone else to be our friends. I know that you or
your government can't be responsible for every single
Nenon's actions and as long you are our friend I am happy
with that"
"Thank you, commodore. Friendship is our primary goal,"
Qalvalor said.
"I am a Special Forces flag officer … so half a spy
myself, so I am OK with the idea that there are Intel
members in each and every of the diplomatic delegations that
came here. When they do their job quiet enough for us to
notice and are not involved in any illegal behaviour then
there is nothing I could … or would do. Let's agree on
these borders and all of us will be happy.
"Of course. I can assure you my delegation currently
consists of only myself and my aide, and it is highly
unlikely he is involved in intel gathering."
Nodding, Shane said: "Thank you, Ambassador. If there will
be anything I could help you with, please don't hesitate
to contact me. My doors are always open for our Nenon
friends".
"I shall take note of that," the ambassador stated. "I look
forward to future discussions. You will find that we have
a lot to offer."
With that Shane stood from the chair, nodded towards the
Nenon Ambassador and left the room. Walking out of the
embassy, his two guards accompanied him again. While walking
towards the fleet decks, Shane thought about the Nenon
Ambassador and considered how much he could trust him.
Qalvalor returned to his seat and looked at the photo of his
children on the corner of his desk. The ambassador had big
ideas, but wondered how long it would take for his
government to try to manipulate his efforts.
