[Ready Room - Deck 1 - USS Chimera-C]
Crates were stacked up along the dark wall beside the door. Rojac had
the walls panelled in the old ship style. Below waist level, the walls
were lined with a dark-stained cedar, the above a tone of mid-value
beige. It gave the room a natural, serene and elegant quality,
accented by the large brown leather couch looking out upon the large
view port, and the great wooden desk with the embedded LCARs touch
screen workspace on the surface.
Ideally, from his desktop in his office, Rojac could bring up any
program on the ship and monitor any systems progress. If push came to
shove, he could even route different command consoles to that location
and run operations from there. Holo-projectors beneath the surface
could display 3-D presentations for personal briefing or
presentations. It was all rather user-friendly. R&D had really outdone
themselves.
But with all the state-of-the-art technology in the room, the first
one Rojac made use of was the replicator. He ordered a hot chai tea,
with extra spice and pulled it from the cubby as the chime sounded.
Gustav had been busy calibrating and tinkering with various things in
engineering when he was called to the Captains ready room for reasons
he did not know but he figured that it would be about the new ship.
As he approached the door Gustav hit a button on the panel at the side
of the door.
"Come in, Mr. Kroitzer." Rojac greeted the young engineer. "Please
have a seat. Would you like a beverage?"
"A cup of strong English tea with milk and two sugars please Sir"
Gustav replied while taking the seat the Captain pointed to.
Rojac removed the order from the replicator once the white noise
subsided. He placed the cup on the shiny surface and slid it across a
schematic of the new ships warpdrive toward Kroitzer. "I must say,
LtCmdr Scardona and I were quite impressed with the algorithms and
modifications used on the warp drive during the flight test."
"Thank you sir, but it wasn't my ideas, they happened to be things
that two of my team were working on and were still in development at
the time" Gustav said not wanting to take the credit for others work.
"Whether you had help or not is beside the point, Lieutenant." Rojac
replied. "Being an officer is not about having all the ideas. Being an
officer requires that you know where to find them, be they from your
colleagues or from your own faculties. You had a good team, and you
gleaned the knowledge from them. That makes you a good officer."
Not being used to this level of praise Gustav started to turn red and
could only say "thank you sir" again.
"Because of your work, I deem it necessary to grant you the rank of
full Lieutenant Junior Grade, and am removing the acting status
imposed by the war." Rojac said. "You are being retained in your
position as Deputy Chief Engineer. Since you will be more familiar
with the crew than LtCmdr Scardona will be, it will be up to you to
make sure things run smoothly while he transitions."
Surprised from the sudden promotion Gustav was a little speech less
"Thank you sir…….I'll help LtCmdr Scardona anyway possible".
Rojac nodded, and allowed a small, sly grin to escape beneath his
beard. "I know you will, Lieutenant. Computer, recognize the immediate
promotion of Acting Lieutenant Junior Grade Gustav Kroitzer to the
rank to full Lieutenant Junior Grade with all the rights and
privileges granted therein."
[Gustav Kroitzer has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Junior
Grade at 1228.]
Rojac stood and shook the officer's hand. "Is there anything else, Lieutenant?"
"No sir" Gustav said grinning from ear to ear.
