[USS Chimera] SD 240908.06 || JL || Capt Rojac, CO & Maj Cortez, CSec ||

[Ready Room - Deck One - USS Chimera NCC 9689-C]

The roster changes in the last few days were enough to make Rojac's head spin. In preparation for the Chimera's task in Operation Magna, Cropa had been scrambling to put together a team of the best officers available. Luckily, a few had fallen into his lap. Commander Summers had sent Lieutenant Fisher his way after Dr. Rice requested an extended leave of absence. Rojac hated to see Rice go, but Fisher was a good replacement. He had years of experience in the SSF, and he had served on the Chimera for many years before his posting to UNITY.

He got lucky again when Commander Ohmsford sent him the files for Mercedes Carpenter. Though she had served most of her career in the Medical branches of Starfleet, Carpenter was a fully certified Science Officer. And she too had experience aboard the Chimera. It seemed that many old faces were returned to the old ship.

That included he new Security Chief. Rojac, after reviewing the files on Marine Captain Davis, couldn't justify returning him completely to duty after the security breaches on UNITY. Davis lacked the discipline and professionalism that Rojac wanted in his Security Department. And so after many requests for updates by Lieutenant Mumacik on UNITY, the Captain turned custody of MCap Davis to the Bragg JAG Department and sent him on his way. Unfortunately that left the CSec spot open on his roster.

While looking for a replacement three days ago, Rojac came across a familiar name. It was the name of  Marine he had grown familiar with in his time as an ATac aboard Guzman's Chimera. At this Marine's command, Rojac remembered planting explosives in main engineering to keep the Chimera out of Tal'Shiar hands (thankfully the didn't have to set them off). And he remembered crash landing on a strange planet in the Spinward Marsh and rescuing Counselor Wellington from this same officer that was suffering from severe delusions caused by the    trauma of the Chimera-A's demise. Major Richard Cortez was an exemplary officer however, and Rojac was looking forward to serving with him again.

The chime sounded fro Rojac's office door, and he called out to allow the Major in. As the marine approached his desk, Cropa slid the padd he was reading to the side and stood to his feet.

"Welcome back to the Chimera, Major Cortez."

"Thank you Sir.", Cortez replied, taking a glance around the room. "You seem to be doing well", he added, sizing up his new CO.  "I heard about your promotion a while back", he paused.  That was about as much pleasantries as Cortez could handle.  Getting straight to business he continued, "So where's the the brass sending us this time?"

Rojac smiled. Cortez was never one for idle chat. "I can not fully disclose our destination until we are under way, Major. But for the purpose of your department's preparation I will tell you that we are going behind enemy lines, and we will be targeting an installation."

Richard nodded his head.  "Well at least some things don't change on this ship", he smirked.

"Like old times, but with a different captain." Rojac said. And he retook his seat, motioning for the Major to do the same. "So Major, how do you like the new ship?"

Cortez sat down took a breath and shrugged his shoulders, "She seems fine", he answered.  "It's just some of the crew that I'm not so sure about."

"What crew?" Rojac asked, genuinely concerned.

"Well my deputy for one", he began.  "I can't be held responsible if I shoot him out of a torpedo tube."

"Ah, Mr. Castillo right?" Rojac said. "I got an interesting memo from the Starbase about him. Seems he escaped the clutches of Lt. Mumacik's Security team somehow. Along with our pending weapons shipment." The Captain shrugged his shoulders, "Who knows how that happened."

"Yes...Well", Cortez began.  "About that, my job was to prepare this ship's security and without our equipment it would be hard to secure the ship", he paused, "So I took the liberty of making sure we were ready, for you of course, I 'improvised' in a manner of speaking".  He tried not to smirk, not knowing how Rojac would react.

"Listen," Rojac crossed his arms atop the desk, "Mumacik can be an annoying fellow - and I'm already not his favorite Captain. I bailed your predecessor out of his Brig - when he had a right to keep him there. I figure that means I have to do the same for you here, but only once Major." Rojac said. "After that I'm leaving you to that emotionless S.O.B."

"I Understand Captain", he replied, "However I am happy to note that the ships security is top notch, our personnel have improved alert reaction times by several minutes.  He paused for a moment in thought but didn't say anything.

"Well that's impressive." Rojac remarked. "How good are they at infiltrations?"

Richard hid a smile as he thought about their recent 'infiltration' into Unity's cargo bay, "Could use some work", he said, "Most aren't trained for that sort of thing", he added.

"Major General Richard Sharpe is sending a Spec Ops unit aboard under the command of a Lieutenant Major Dare Shao." Cropa informed his CSec. "Her team will be staying in Cargo Bay Three and it will be her job to infiltrate the base we find and hack into their database. I want you to lead a team to accompany her."

Richard cocked his head to the side,  "Whatever for", he queried.  He knew how good a Special Ops unit could be.

"I want your team to plant demolitions." Rojac said.

The Major looked a bit surprised, "Yes Sir," he was a bit excited at the prospect, but also not entirely sure his security staff would be ready.  "We'll be ready", he added.

"Operations should be done in two hours." Rojac said. "At that time meet me in Transporter Room 1 to welcome her aboard. You'll be acting as her liaison to the ship. Understood?"

"Understood", Cortez responded quickly.  The name Dare Shao sounded familiar to him, he wondered if they had met before.

"Good." Rojac nodded. "Two hours then, Major. You are dismissed."
