[USS Chimera] SD: 240904.04 Joint Personal Log, MCapt. Anya Xerxes/MCapt. Jade Reese

***Starbase Unity, Promenade***

Anya walked away from the security checkpoint and took a
wander along the promenade not particularly looking for
anything in particular.  She felt bored and after the confusion
of her trip badly in need of a drink.  Never particularly one
for drinking alone Anya visually scanned the faces of the
crowd looking for anyone that she knew most likely to be
one of her pilots or deck crew from the vast minority of the
ships crew that she could recognize by sight.  She did spot
a face she recognized, not one of her minions but one of the
other senior crew...oh well, the Captain had been talking
about building bridges with the other departments.  "Captain
Reese..."

Jade heard name and rank she swiveled her head trying to
determine where it came from finally figuring out who said
her name, "Captain Xerxes." Jade said, "what brings you to
the station." Jade said turning and leaning on the railings and
watching the people go about their business almost
remembering how easy life was before joining the Corps and
seeing action for the first time and then dealing with it.

"Well probably the quick answer to that is a thirty two hour
freighter journey and a powerful yearning for alcohol.  How
about you Captain?  Looking to get away from the paperwork
piling u
p on your desk?"  Anya said picking a position next to
her.  "Care for a drink to ease the stress of the day?"

"Um sure a drink sounds like a good idea right about now."
Jade said smiling, "and as for paper work I've got my deputy
chief dealing with some of it." Jade loving being a department
head and being able to delegate, "so where do for this drink."
Jade said standing straight up to get ready to head to the
nearest bar or where ever.

"My pilots have have staked a claim on a place down a couple
of decks called The Riot Bar.  Loud rock music, dark and dingy
plus the booze ain't watered down.  Just the place for a quiet
uneventful drink."  Anya led off to th
e nearest turbo lift and
without turning around said "You manage to get your Deputy
to do paperwork?  Gods if only I could do the same but then
again my XO's so dumb he'd probably mispell his own name."

Jade smiled, "sounds like a good plan." Jade said following the
Captain into the turbolift," well yea it's easy paper work and
plus with the way my body looks I could get him to way more
then I asked." Jade said with a wide grin on her face glad that
she met with Xerxes on the communication jamming project.

"Well that's certainly one way to get it done."  Anya said as
she exited the turbolift "Luckily for me my vast department
of eighteen people doesn't tend to cause much in the way
of paperwork.  For the most part its just requisition orders
although the regular psych reports usually make for disturbing
reading. Whilst we may not be the biggest department on the
ship we're definitely one of the more insane...it helps as often
as not when taking a fighter up against a Warbird."

Jade allowed herself a giggle, "well I have my own bunch of
unhinged people mainly the ones that enjoy doing routine
adjustments to the ship systems." Jade said following Anya,
"requisitions are always fun, but we've a very good QM on
board, but she works way too much." Jade said thinking next
time on R&R she would invite Drake out.

"Hmmm...enjoy routine adjustments.  Isn't that an oxymoron?
Then again given some of the grease monkeys I have running
around my flight decks working for hours on minor tweaks on
the Lancers I suppose enthusiasm for the mundane tasks may
be a widespread occurrence."  Anya led the way out of the
corridor towards the bar which could be heard long before it
was seen.  Anya paused just out side the door before going
in thinking.  {This place reminds me of some of the bars we
used to hang around in when I was stationed aboard the EAS
Zeus.}  The memory proved to be a bitter one so Anya led the
way into the bar intent on washing it away.

[USS Chimera] SD 240904.04 | SB Unity | Joint Log, Cmdr Summers (1TF Med) & Maj Kinn (1TF Intel)

= SB Unity - Medical Security, 1TF Sector =

Giella waited patiently by the entrance of the highly secure
ward, resisting the urge to pace up and down. She was
waiting for the arrival of Commander Summers, who'd been
paged only a few minutes ago after the arrival of the
prisoner. It was one of the most secure transfers Giella had
seen in her time as an Intel officer, no less than 20 highly
trained Special Ops marines stood guard outside the
triple-secured cell which contained the stasis pod the
captor had arrived in.

Rangi was escorted by the two marines walking one on each
side, all the way from the XOs office to the secure section
in the main hospital. They didnt say, and she didnt ask,
what the emergency situation was but as she approached the
destination, it seemd almost as though there was a marine
convention taking place for the area fairly bristled with
armed silent guards.

She was just about to start pacing when two officers
escorted Commander Summers inside the high security are.
"Commander, thank you for coming so quickly," Giella said as
she started to explain. "Commander Chisulo has brought back
a prisoner that needs to be examined. It was sedated on the
way, but no one knows what it is, we are the only ones who
been cleared to be allowed near it. Chisulo's report
indicates it's highly dangerous and strongly telepathic,
therefore no telepaths are allowed in this area until
further notice."

" I see." Rangi said, glancing over Giellas shoulder towards
a locked door where the guard standing in front of it gave
her a hard cold stare. She looked back to Giella. " Is that
'all' we
know?" she asked.

Giella nodded. "Usually I'm able to gather more information
from my sources, but so far nothing. This species isn't even
on the
Intelligence radar, nevermind the database. The only
description I found matching it was a report from Chimera's
security
department about the Antigonis misson."

"Right." Rangi said. " Ok...so we need to examine
....'it'. Do
you have a report with you? I need to know exactly what its
been sedated with."

Giella turned and motioned to an aide who stood nearby and
handed her a padd. Giving the padd to Rangi, she said. "The
report states the prisoner has been sedated with 20cc of
lovionum."

Rangi stared at Giella in silence. That amount would put a
fit healthy humanoid into a coma at least.
She lowered her eyes, activated the padd and read through
the brief notes. "Right.." she said "...lets have a look at
our guest."

Nodding to the guards, Giella stepped forward and waited as
they opened the locked down medical ward. The two women
stepped through the first door into a security airlock.
After the first door closed, the second opened and the
walked into the room with the stasis chamber.

They moved nearer to the unit and looked at the figure
inside for a few seconds before moving to the medical
scanner. Here whole streams of data rose steadily on the
screen.

Giella stood beside Rangi as they studied the readouts from
the scanners. She only had basic medical knowledge and
knew that Rangi would better understand what the datastreams
meant.

"Right..." Rangi said after she'd read the datastreams and
turned back to Giella. "The.. subject... has been connected
to a beta wave reducer. Along with the lovionum it should ensure
that it stays in an induced coma, though at this dosage I really dont know if we
could cause damage."

She looked into the stasis chamber. " In the normal state
of affairs it would but our friend here isnt reacting in the
same way at all."
She glanced at Giella. " I have never seen such a complex
DNA in a humaniod before and  without further study of
its physiology, I won't have any answers. I think perhaps we
should refer this to the Department of Medical Research
Intelligence."

Giella looked back a moment at the cold grey stasis chamber
that housed the alien and got the feeling that perhaps they were a
little in over their heads and that Rangi's suggestion were a wise one.
Only herself and the Medical Advisor were authorised to study the alien,
and even the 1TF staff had been prohibited access. The Dep of
MRI would have to send an officer or a team to Unity, since the
subject was not allowed to leave the starbase.

"I'll put an official request through to Special Forces
Intel and run it by the Commodore. I'll need an official request from you as
well, please," Giella said.

"That's no problem I'll do it immediately." She sighed and
gave a slight shrug. "I'm out of my depth with this one."
she said truthfully.

"I think we all are," Giella replied as the two women exited the security
ward.

[USS Chimera] SD 240904.02. SB Unity. Personal Log : Cmdr Summers / Stephen Jacobs

rangi.summers@mojwap.sk wrote to chimera@ucip.org:

*** Viewing Gallery. Outer Ring * SB Unity. ***

It was late afternoon and Rangi was running late, something
that she hated to do.She was walking fast along the
seemingly endless corridor that skirted the outer ring of
the starbase.
View ports to her right faced away from the planet and,
until recently, had shown space with occasional traffic
approaching Unity.
Now though there was a shipyard, or part of it, to be seen
at a relatively close distance.

Rangi took no notice of it as she hurried along, a small
frown clouding her face.
She had arrived for her appointemnt with Stephen Jacobs in
good time, only to learn that he was not in the counselling
suite but was waiting for her in the viewing gallery of the
outer ring.

" Is he joking?" she asked looking and sounding exasperated.

" Oh no Ma'am, I'm sure he's not." came the yoemans polite
reply.

Rangis lips drew a straight line of displeasure. It would
take a good twenty minutes to get to the section and she
would be late. She would have gone straight there had she
known.
"Thankyou." she said curtly, turned away and headed for the
nearest lift.

++

Now at last she saw her quarry and slowed slightly, giving
herself time to regain her composure. He was sitting partly
turned away from her, gazing out of the viewport.
She took a deep breath and walked foward.
" Commander Jacobs." she said.

He turned his head at the sound of her voice and got to his
feet saying."Ah, Commander Summers."

"I'm sorry I'm late. I didnt know our appointment place had
changed." Rangi said.

"Why dont you sit down." he replied in a matter of fact
tone, entirely dimissing her comment and giving no
explanation or apology of his own.
He resumed his seat without waiting for her to sit down and
turned his attention to the window which had a good view of
the shipyard and its ongoing reconstruction.

Rangi sat down on the seat next but one from his, placed her
shoulder bag at her feet and folded her hands on her lap.
Stephen said nothing and the seconds began to tick by.
Rangi glanced around.

The gallery was almost empty, for the best views were of the
planet, on the opposite side of the Ring and fewer people
visited this area.
A couple walked past hand in hand talking quietly to each
other.
There was a distant 'hummmm' which Rangi narrowed down to
the replicator on the far wall. It was obviously in need of
attention.
A group of potted plants stood in a pleasing group opposite
to her but a low table placed between comfortable seats
nearby, was littered with empty mugs which someone had not
bothered to clear.

She looked back at Stephen and sighed to herself. He was
seemingly concentrating on the activity in the shipyard, for
his gaze didnt waver from it.
Her eyes moved from the part of his face she could see to
the well worn jacket he wore,to the long strong fingers
resting on his knee, the faded jeans and the shabby shoes in
need of a good polish.

She tapped her thumb on the back of her folded hand,
wondering how much longer they were to sit in silence.

" I thought you wanted to talk about my father." she said,
watching his face again. He looked at her with an expression
of mild surprise.
"Did you?" he asked.

"Yes. At least that's what you said last time we met."

He nodded slowly, as though recalling it then asked:
"What do you think to the shipyard?" and looked back towards
it.

For the second time in less than an hour, Rangis lips
compressed into a straight line.

"No doubt it will be very useful." she said shortly.

"Useful?" he repeated, looking back at her.

She wondered why he wanted to discuss the shipyard,
something that didnt feature highly in her interest,
although Shane had talked about it quite a bit.

"Yes" she said. "When its in full working order it will be
extrememly useful...ships won't have to travel so far for
repairs."

He shifted on his seat and turned to face her fully.

"Why did you apologise?" he asked in his calm slightly slow
voice.

She was caught off guard and took a second to realise he
meant her on her arrival.

" Because I don't like being late." she answered.

" And you don't want to talk about the shipyard." he stated.

"Not particularly...no." Rangi agreed.

" So what would you like to talk about?" he asked.

She looked into his brown eyes that held, she was sure,
amusement. Her head mover slightly to one side so that for a
moment she considered him almost sideways on from the corner
of her eyes.

" Are you trying to annoy me?" she asked, with growing
certainty that for some reason he was.

"Why would I want to do that?" he asked.

" I'm not sure." she replied meeting his gaze fully again. "
We arranged a meeting in your room which you changed without
telling me...you dragged me half way round the base to
discuss a shipyard instead of the subject you'd previously
mentioned...and now you ask me why I apologise for being
late."

"Are you annoyed?" he said.

Rangi held back her responce as they looked at each other
and after a moment, gave a short shake of her head.
" No." she said, realizing that if he had asked a minute
before the answer might have been yes.

Again she was certain there was hidden amusement in the
brown eyes and she broke the gaze looking now at the
battered satchel he always seemed to carry. Despite herself
she couldnt hold back a smile because suddenly the whole
situation seemed so ridiculous.
" No I'm not." she said looking back at him and saw she was
correct and that his amusement was indeed real.

Her attention was caught by a movement and she looked past
him through the viewing wall towards the shipyard that had
held his interest for so long.

" What is 'that'?" she said.
Her obvious surprise caused Stephen to turn.

" Well, well well...." he murmured.

The space between the base and shipyard was distorting,
shimmering almost as a steel grey ship began to de-cloak.

There were no alerts, so security must have expected it, yet
the sudden appearance was a bit disconcerting.

" U S S Detector." Stephen said, reading the markings. " So
that's where she's been."

He looked back at Rangi and smiled, something that gave her
another surprise, for it was unexpected and unknown until
now.
He stood up, slinging the battered satchel over his
shoulder.
" I need to get moving." he said and Rangi too got to her
feet, clutching her own shoulder bag. " I'll walk you to the
turbolift." he said.

They set of together in the way that Rangi had come and she
told herself that she must get used to these strange
counselling sessions.
They had gone quite a distance before Stephen spoke.

" I met your father." he said moving along with his easy
long strides.
Rangi looked up at him quickly.

"Did you?" she asked.

He looked down into her eager face. " I just said so." he
replied.

They walked on side by side.
She couldnt resist it and had to ask:
" When?"

" A few years ago. " he said. " We were at conventions and
ended up sharing a table one evening with a few others."

Rangi didnt reply.
It was so unexpected to meet anyone who had known her father
and she found it a sweet moment.
She missed him and knew she always would ,even though the
sting of his sudden death had disappeared. She wished
sometimes that he could have met little Martin so that she
could have seen them together, so that he would have had the
pleasure of time spent with his grandson.

They walked on in silence and Stephen looked down at her
knowing that he had begun a train of thought and guessing,
correctly as it turned out, what those thoughts were.

" I liked him." he said simply and Rangi turned her head
again to look up at him.
She smiled as she said : " Me too."

[USS Chimera] SD 240903.02 New missions(2x) orders log, Commo. Shane Guzman

"shane.guzman@mojwap.sk" <shane.guzman@mojwap.sk> wrote to chimera@ucip.org:

====== Shane's office, 1TF Command level, SB
234: UNITY ======

Shane cursed the day and it was not for the last time.

Two days ago he spend all this duty time with reading and
signing PADDs. One would say … "oho … a few pads to
read, where's the problem?", but the problem was that
the "few" turned to thirty one! And that were only
matters from a single week … that passed the basic filter
in the TF Operations center … and 2nd level filter on
Pakosii's desk. Shane made once the try to count how many
"matters of importance" were send to him within a week.
The count was a terrible 117! He could consider himself
lucky that only 31 made it really to his desk.

Again, one could say that important things have to be cared
for … but the pain here is the word "important". Some
clerk in Federation bureau of medicine, department human
nutrition, sub department of experimental food control finds
out that the usage of Vulcan weed racio musli bars can
affect one's dexterity in cumulative effect of adrenaline
… and the Federation Bureau of Medicine immediately issues
a directive limited the usage of those Vulcan weed musli
bars for Special Forces branch. Since the Bureau can't
issue orders for military units … the direction hit's
the desk of a branch's Commander who has to sign it and
send to all units in his chain of command.

Trouble was that 80% of all PADDs on Shane's desk were of
a similar nature.

But the last two days were different. First there was the
surprise and devastating attack of Romulan forces on V'Tar
II. Romulans shocked all Federation with the use of Thalaron
weapon, that destroyed all life there within seconds.
Thalaron weapons were forbidden and any research, usage or
ownership of such weapons within the Federation was punished
with long years sentences. Romulans already were about to
use Thalaron weapon against the Federation two decades back
… during the time of Preator Shinzon. Shinzon was defeated
by the valiant crew of USS Enterprise and the new Romulan
government promised to abandon all research in this field.

In was generally believed that the Romulans lost all
interest in Thalaron weaponry … but only till the horrible
waste landing of V'Tar II. During the time when Federation
highest officials were discussing the matter, Starfleet
Command authorized SSF 1st Task Force to launch a responding
action towards the Romulans. Yesterday, Shane charged
Chisulo, his Tactical Advisor with preparing detailed battle
plans and today he's got them. Chisulo proposed a Tasf
Force utilizing a rather new operation tactics. Starfleet
was always lacking decent fighter abilities and always
concentrated on capital ships. It was just quite recently
that SSF gave an OK to a new doctrine – Fighter power and
Chisulo suggested putting that doctrine to a test. His Task
Force consisted of six ships + the newly commissioned USS
Detector.

Shane thought briefly back about the launching of the
Detector. He had unfortunately little time to attend the
ceremony in person, but from what he head it was a nice
event … except the 'unbreakable' bottle of wine. Shane
wondered if the wine was really as old as the Detector …
what could mean that the wine was already QUITE thick and
the high viscosity could adhere the glass of the bottle
together. On an another note, Shane was a bit amused to
learn where the old emitter from the Qashqai ended … in
the Detector. Let's be honest … being a flag officer has
its advantages … and getting fast new parts for one's
personal ship was among them.

Special Forces Command approved Chisulo's plan quickly –
it was evident that great pressure was produces by Starfleet
highest brass to punish the brutal Thalaron attack. There
was nothing much Shane could do here more, he prepared
orders for the requested ships and charged Chisulo with
command over the little Task Force.

Aside of the great tragedy on V'Tar II, Chisulo was lucky
that it happened. His previous actions on Narendra mission
caused a LOT of trouble for the Federation/Klingon Empire
relations. A great uproar sounded through all the empire and
a lot of voices called for breaking the alliance with the
Federation. Federation officials tried to explain that it
was not Starfleet but Erassian Alliance who bombarded their
colony, but Klingons were reluctant to listen … and many
were longing for a war. A court martial was about to be
prepared to judge over Captain Chisulo, but this new
Thalaron crisis was just the perfect "cover" to get
Chisulo out of the base. Shane and SSF Command would so gain
more time to settle the matter or at least it would be
enough time for the most hot heads to cool somewhat down.

Shane cursed the day and it was not for the last time.

Adding pain to injury, heavy encrypted orders from Starfleet
Intelligence HQ (approved by SSF Command, General Kira
herself) arrived yesterday. The source for those orders were
the findings made by USS Chimera on her pervious mission
regarding the compromised listening outpost at the Rom/Fed
borders. As Chimera discovered, important data were relayed
by the outpost outside of federation borders. Further
investigation by SFI revealed that the target of those
transmissions lied within Erassian territory. A SFI scout
ship was send to enter Erassian territory and pursue the
investigation, but was stopped by Erassian forces and denied
passage rights.

Of course, this fact was rather suspicious and put the
(still not ink dry) Mutual Defense Treaty between the
Alliance and the Federation in danger. SFI decided that this
needs urgent investigation and for reasons only half
explained, requested Task Force Command and the Chimera to
lead that case. Shane was ordered to assemble a small task
force of four ships led by the Chimera to negotiate with the
Erassians and continue on with the investigation into the
third lead.

The mission's objectives (as outlines by Captain Mercer,
head of Standard Intelligence were simple:

(1) Negotiate passage through Erassian space. Avoid
conflict. (2) Investigate the destination of the third
transmission.

Since Shane already assigned ships to Chisulo's Task
Force, he needed some time to find fitting ships (both
suitable for such a mission and still close enough for a
quick launch).

Taskgroup:

Group: [Name (Class) – Commanding Officer]

1. USS Chimera-B (Century) – Captain Cropa Rojac

2. USS Magellan-D (Sovereign) – Captain Frederick Mayo

3. USS Eagle-B (Katana-b) – Commander Typhon

4. USS Rapier (Saber) – Commander Hank Telson

Now, Shane needed a Task Force Commander. He himself could
not leave SB 234 and this mission was of great importance,
so the final decision fall on LtColonel PontBrillant,
Shane's 2nd in Command.

Till now, Shane did not see his 2nd in Command performing in
action and this was the ideal case. The mission was
important, troubles sure to expect and risks were great …
just a ground for a Fleet level officer to prove his
qualities. With experienced ship COs like Captain Rojac on
his side, Shane did not fear for the Colonel or for the
mission … much.

It took him another half an hour to prepare orders for each
of the 4 ship's captains. Each ship received a priority
one message and the task force was scheduled to leave SB 234
within 24 hours. Shane send dedicated messages to Captain
Rojac and Colonel PontBrillant asking them to appear in his
office … ASAP!

[USS Chimera] 240903.31, [DETECTOR] Duty Log, Cdr Rick Rodgers

=U.S.S. Detector=
=Aeran System=

Rick beamed aboard the Detector to be greeted by Lieutenant Gor
Deverux, who had the captain's chair for the ships departure from
the shipyard.

"Sir, we beamed this on board just before you arrived," Deverux
said, handing Rick the wine bottle that wouldn't break during the
Detector's christening.

Rick lifted the bottle up to the light and studied to for a fee minutes.

"Not even a scratch," Rick said in somewhat awe. "We sure this real
bottle."

"Aye, sir. We even performed a scan on it."

"That so."

"What do you want us to do with it?" Deverux asked.

"I not know. Wine should be consumed, but not now. We have tests
to perform."

"Now sir? I thought we had a couple of days to complete interior."

"I got word from task force command. They want use of Detector as
soon as possible," Rick explained. "We need to commence tests right
away."

"Understood. I'll inform the bridge to set course to testing area."

Rick nodded as Deverux walked away.

-  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -

A few hours later on the outer edge of the system, Rick sat next to
the engineering station on the bridge, going over the data from
testing up to this point.

"Long range sensors check out," Rick said. "We can now begin test
of defensive systems. Is Santee ready?"

"She's in position," an ensign spoke up.

"Raise shields," Rick ordered.

"Shields raised."

"Have Santee open fire with phasers at 10 percent power," Rick said.

The Detector shook, but only barely. Rick examined the data on his
console.

"Not bad," Rick said. "Tell her increase phaser output 20 percent."

The ship shook a little more this time, but not enough to cause any
damage. The tests were enough to give Rick the data he needed to
ascertain the shields capabilities. He would study the data in more
detail later, but now he was satisfied enough to consider the shields
properly operational.

"OK, tell Santee to stand down," Rick said after a few more minutes
of shield tests which included extensive maneuvering.

"Santee is standing down and returning to UNITY," Deverux said.

"OK, lets see if armor checks out," Rick said. "Tactical, deploy armor."

"Aye, sir."

After a few seconds ...

"Ablative Armor deployed, commander," the officer at tactical said.

"Excellent. Seems to be functioning perfectly," Rick said. "Detract
armor."

"Armor detracted."

More tests were performed over the next few hours before Rick pulled
away from his station.

"OK, Mr. Deverux, let return to UNITY. Inform starbase we will be
coming in cloaked. Let see of they detect us."

"Aye sir."

"I be in engineering," Rick said as he stood and departed the bridge.

[USS Chimera] SD 240903.31 || Duty Log || Capt Chisulo - 1TF Tactical ||

[Tactical Labs – SB 234: UNITY]

Captain Chisulo, Lieutenant Colonel Pont Brillant, Commodore Guzman, and Admiral LeGrand watching the incoming data in horror as the happenings at V'Tar III were reported. The colony had fallen, and the Romulans were ruthless in their assault. They broke the promise they made after Shinzon's demise more than two decades before and resumed research into weaponized thalaron particles. They used their new weapon to necrotize the key centers of the colony, and deployed their special Rihansu troops to secure and pacify the remaining populations.

Despite the atrocities, it was a ruthlessly efficient assault of tactical brilliance on the Romulan's side. It clearly displayed how the Federation underestimated the capabilities of the Romulans. Just when the Federation was beginning to think it odd that the D'Deridex class warbird was still their top ship, new scouts, fighters, and now thalaron cruisers were popping up all across the front lines.

Guzman ordered Pont Brillant to bolster the frontlines around the colony, and with LeGrand's approval he began dictating fleet movements into the neighboring systems from the Operation Center's command dias. Guzman and LeGrand decided they needed to contact Bragg and Starfleet Command, but before they retired back to Guzman's office the Commodore ordered Chisulo to begin planning a counter-attack.

That was what Chisulo had been doing ever since. He poured over the sensor data from the last buoy update from the V'Tar system for at least 6 hours, before it was wiped out by the incoming Romulan fleet. They appeared to begin the interplanetary strike with fighters from the asteroid belt in the system, using it as cover to take-out the planetary defense and sensor networks. Then the cruisers warped in to take down the small contingent of Starfleet and planter security vessels that put up a resistance. Then the Thalaron Cruisers entered the atmosphere and prepped the key population centers for invasion. It ran like clock-work.

Chisulo's reaction had to run in a similar manner, if it was to have any success at all. And with a deadly weapon like a thalaron cannon was to be used, Starfleet needed to defer from its usual tactics in order to be successful. Chisulo decided that any counter-attack would have to rely heavily upon the Federation's fighter capabilities and an element of surprise for success. He found inspiration from the historical records about the Battle of Coral Sea during World War II.

The Battle of Coral Sea was the first naval battle in Earth history in which the opposing fleets never actually laid eyes on each other. The fighter craft of each sides' carriers were the weapons which fought the battle, with the US ending victorious over the Japanese navy. Chisulo modeled Operation Coral Sea after this battle.

The Captain put in the request for the following Task Group:

1)      The newly commissioned USS Detector, fresh out of space dock. Its excellent sensor system would make it the perfect command ship for Chisulo to run the operation.

2)      The Typhon Class USS Hindenburg and its compliment of fighter's would provide the bread and butter for the operation.

3)      USS Yamato, a sovereign class cruiser would provide the back-up firepower to take down the thalaron cruisers once the fighters provide the intelligence.

4)      The Prometheus class USS Darkstrom would do the same as the Yamato above, but in greater force with its multi-vectral assault mode.

5)      The destroyers USS Exeter (Katana-B) and,

6)      USS Akira to deploy the marine contingents planet side, to retake the colony.

It was a small task group, but it would have to be in order to maintain the stealth required for operational integrity. A large force would to easily show up on sensors and would be too broad of a target for the thalaron cannon. The number of losses would be off the scale, more so than they were already.

Tedros spent the next morning polishing off his proposal, planning the movements to come in cloaked along the neutral zone and entering the system from the Romulan side before taking refuge in the sensor shadow of the asteroid belt. When he was done, he signed a copy and forwarded it to Commodre Guzman, Admiral LeGrand, and SSF Command. He hoped to hear from them soon.

[USS Chimera] 240903.31, [SHIPYARD] Duty Log, Cdr Rick Rodgers

=Tarangor/Aeran Shipyard=
=Aeran System=

Rick walked up to a small group of officers and crewmen, who stood
next to a large window looking out at the Detector, which was still
moored in the shipyard's drydock.

"I not one for words, especially these days," Rick started. "I first like
to say good job to everyone. You did good work on Detector and
doing good work on shipyard. Efforts here will go ways in helping
end war."

He took a deep breath before he continued.

"We here to dedicate first ship completed here. Even though Detector
construction started decades ago, she finally finish today. It only
fitting that we give ship proper send off. Lieutenant Karn?"

Karn walked up to Rick and handed him a bottle.

"Commodore Guzman and Colonel PontBrillant unable to be here
today as they in middle of war meetings. So, it up to us to dedicate
Detector. This wine is vintage year same of that when ship construction
started. Pretty good vintage from what I told, but what I know about
wine?"

Rick placed the bottle into a small hatch and closed it.

"Chief Weathersby, would you please do honors?" Rick asked.

"Why me?" she asked.

"Because you discover ship in shipyard database, and I think I heard
it said that it good luck to have a woman christening ship."

"Really?" she walked up to where Rick was standing.

"That what I heard once," he responded, then nodded to the console
next to the small hatch. "Just push that button."

"OK," she said. "Do I need to say anything first?"

"Something like 'I christen thee,' or 'I christen thee, Detector,' or
something like that."

"All right. Well, then I christen thee, U.S.S. Detector," she said before
pushing the button.

The bottle shot out of the hatch and made its way to the fore of the
Detector. Everyone patiently awaited for the big smash.

And waited.

And waited.

"Maybe I should have put more force behind the ejection," Rick
thought out loud.

On board the Detector, a small, thrown together bridge crew was also
waiting to move the ship out of dry dock following the bottle hitting
the ship.

Then, the big moment came as the bottle slammed against the hull
... and bounced off.

"That not good," Rick muttered. "Not good at all."

"Oh," Jo responded.

"It is said to be bad luck if the bottle doesn't break," Karn added.

"Yeah, good job Jo," Rick said sarcastically. "Now Detector jinxed."

"Hey! It's not my fault! I didn't have anything to do with force behind
the settings. I didn't program it."

"I should had Ensign Otontia do it. She probably have better luck,"
Rick said, getting an approving nod from Karn.

"I'm not going to stand here and take the blame for this," Jo said.

"Maybe Crewman Potter would have been a good choice," Karn said.

Rick nodded, but couldn't hold back the grin.

"Very funny," Jo said. "You probably did the whole thing with the
bottle on purpose. It was probably unbreakable."

"No, it real bottle," Rick said. "It just not break. Thankfully, I not
believe in luck."

"Commander, the Detector is wanting to know if she can leave
dry dock," someone manning the comm station said.

"Tell Detector she had permission to leave," Rick said. "I beam
aboard shortly."

"Aye, sir."

Rick walked over to the shipyard's lone transporter room. Jo
followed.

"So, what kind of bad luck are we talking about?" she asked.

"Jeez ... get over it," Rick replied. "No such thing as good or bad
luck."

He stopped and turned to face her.

"But if there was, then it be really bad luck ..."

He paused

"Really bad," he said before continuing on to the transporter with
a wide grin on his face.

This time, she didn't follow.

<< OOC: May be a bit of a backlog... Not sure... >>

-=-/-\-=- USS Chimera -=-/-\-=-

Nanee had boarded what would be her first ship, the Chimera.  It was about time that she left UNITY.  She enjoyed her stay and was reunited with her cousin and got to meet her brother-in-law for the first time.  The only other person she would've liked to meet would've been her niece, but Nanee was sure that now there would be time to do so.

She left feeling less guilty for her family's actions towards her cousin and her cousin's siblings after getting to see MaiKai for the first time in years.  She knew it would be a long time before her and Mai would be able to discuss their family matters, but just being on good terms with her cousin when she thought that was impossible was satisfying enough for the time being and Nanee was sure that Mai felt the same.

One of Nanee's hopes for joining a starship was to be able to come out of her shell.  Nanee was known on the planet for her impeccable work and efficiency.  Nanee just could never manage to make friends well or go out on any dates for that matter.  She really only spoke when it was necessary.  She felt that if she kept herself reserved that there would be less confrontation.  Nanee could now see that this is no longer a way for anyone to live especially in their early twenties.

The new Deputy Chief Medical Officer was on her way to her quarters to drop off her luggage and then maybe she could report in for duty in the main Sickbay or at least meet the Chief Medical Officer.

[USS Chimera] Welcome to Chimera

Hi Jonas,

My name is Ixus and I am the Cadet Liason for Chimera.  I am sending this to welcome you to Chimera and to also give you a few helpful tips to make writing and sending a log simple and easy.  If you need any more help or advice feel free to contact either myself at ixus666@hotmail.com or the Command team at chimera-command@ucip.org and ask any questions you would like. .

So on with the tips.  So starting at the beginning, the title of a log.  The title must contain 4 things firstly the star date which lets say today is the 10th December 2008 written as SD:240812.10 and that is found by putting 24 then the current year 08, then the current month 12 and a full stop . and finally the current day 10, giving SD:240812.10.  Next up is the type of log which can be either a Personal or Duty Log.  Lastly is the title and name of your character, for example Cadet Jonas Archer and then the position of your character which is Assistant Tactical Officer or ATAC for short.  So let us say that you send in a log of your character at work today the title would be.  SD:240812.10  Duty Log, Cdt. Jonas Archer, ATAC.

Ending the Log is similar to the title.

Cadet Jonas Archer  (Title and Name)
ATAC  (Position)
USS Chimera - C  (Where your character is assigned)

Next up is your character and writing for her.  Probably the best tip here is make sure you can relate to your character.  It makes it a lot easier to write if you understand how your character thinks and how they react.  I do this by putting a different bit of my personality into each of my characters and have them interested in much the same things as I am which keeps it an easy enough to write and interesting enough to develop from.

When writing your first few logs the key is to keep them simple.  Establish your character and her personality and interact with the other people on the sim.  Over time as you gain confidence you can develop your own storylines for your character and even involve other people with that.  Length of Logs can be as long as you want but we would advise a minimum of at least 4 paragraphs.  Again if you need help or are looking for ideas do not hesitate to ask the command team or your department head.

Lastly and most importantly the one rule of the Chimera Sim you should never forget...HAVE FUN!

Welcome aboard!

-----Start Log-----
Cadet Archer had just started to settle in to starbase unity also known as 234, he was actually beginning to enjoy his assignment for the very first time and was very happy. He was just about to depart from his quarters for a lovely and fun evening on board the starbase. However, before archer could depart he received a message from USS Chimera. +taps+ cadet archer please report to the ship, with all your belongings and be prepared to get on board to begin your assignment as assistant tactical officer. +taps+ so, archer hurried to accomplish getting his personal belongings in order for the move to the vessel. So he put on his uniform and made sure it was nice and neat. He could not wait to meet his other fellow crew members and began his great assignment on board the ship.
Before archer knew it he was on starbase unity's transporter platform preparing to energize. He gave the order to energize to the transporter chief and a few seconds he was on board the ship being greeted by fellow crew members. Upon getting on board he messaged the commanding officer with his com badge +taps+ cadet archer to captain Rojac, may I am report for duty in your office sir? +taps+ the captain responded with +taps+ you may do so when you are ready.+taps+ so archer first went to his quarters which were located on deck four section seven room #4722 which was conveniently near the turbo lift. So, hurry up and threw his quarters together in no particular order and then rushed to the lift where he called the computer " main bridge" then the turbo lift came to life and start to go up to the desired destination.
Upon arriving on the bridge, the cadet approached the captain's ready room and pushed the doors bell. From inside, he heard "come" so he entered the room and stood at attention introducing himself, cadet Jonas archer reporting for duty sir, at which point the cadet saluted his superior officer. Captain Rojac told the cadet to stand at ease and asks him to have a seat. Welcome aboard, the captain explained and told the cadet that he was happy to meet him. He said, " it will be nice, to have a great officer like you on board the ship." With that, the captain told archer that will be all for now. On his way out archer was stopped one last time by the captain when he said and cadet as soon as you finish getting your quarters into good shape please return of the bridge to me get your shift and help us get the tactical systems into prime working order.

LeGrand shuffled in his seat uncomfortably. "When will you
Special Forces types ever learn?" He muttered.
"I'm sorry, sir?" Chisulo asked, still standing erect with
his hands tight behind his back.
"Your... 'cowboy diplomacy', Captain, has probably ruined
the Federation's chances of gaining the support of the one
ally that could help turn this war in our favor." LeGrand
responded. His eyes pierced like daggers. "You destroyed an
ally's base, killed its commanding officer, and ravaged the
economy of an entire system. The Narendra system depended on
that ore processing facility to remain afloat. You just
damned that entire colony to poverty for the next five to
ten years!"
Chisulo said nothing, but kept his gaze locked on the
experienced commander.

low in betazed's standards, but I have trained myself in the
ability to read one's motor cortex."
"Motor cortex?" Rojac called out, slapping the top of the
bar. "So that's how you did it!"
Rayna only smirked.
"That's how you were able to read my every move in our
sparring match! You were reading my brain's motor cortex
activity, knowing my moves the instant before I made them."
Rojac said, as realization had finally set in.
"Looks like you know my secret now." She replied before
finishing off her glass of wine. "And all this time you
thought you really had gotten rusty."

<<Not a quote exactly but a vivid and wonderful
description>>..............................

The quiet moment between mother and son were suddenly broken
by low rumbling sound that hovered over the golden city of
Vo'Kar. Alarmed, Pavik quickl stood up and walked towards
the edge of the balcony. He glanced upwards to the sky and
saw the air shimmer as a massive ship decloaked over the
city. It's design was clearly Romulan, but it was unlikely
any Romulan ship Pavik had seen or heard of before. Almost
spiderlike in its design, the ship however menacingly over
the city for a few moments until a bright beam of light shot
from orbital defense platforms struck the shields of the
vessel, causing the electormagnetised air around it to
create a half-sphere of sickly green light.

Then suddenly a blindly luminescent pulse of light shot
forth from the belly of the large beast, striking into the
heart of Vo'Kar. The cascading shockwave of thalaron
radiation that swept through the capital city of Kas Povaan
destroyed everything in its path within a matter of seconds.
Pavik had barely a second to turn away from the balcony when
the shockwave hit, causing instant cellular necrosis in
every living thing and toppling the tall structure into the
deep valley below.

A potential sparring partner for the captain in a few years
time?.........................

"What about the other girl?"

"Other girl?"

"Yes, other girl she got in fight with," Rick said. "She
OK?"

Collinsworth shook her head, "there was no other girl. She
hit him."

The teacher pointed to a young boy sitting in her office
adjacent to the classroom. Rick guess that the boy was maybe
a couple of years older than Rachel. He could also see the
area around his left eye turning dark.

"She did that?" Rick asked, pointing to the boy.

Collinsworth nodded.

The best recipes are invented by new cadets using
replicators ;)........................

I finally got the replication system down pat. It took
forever before I could get my hot tea! At first, I found out
that they had different kinds, then instead of hot, my tea
came cold. I finally got it right. I think that I may spend
time cooking while on the Chimera, because I would hate to
see what would happen when I want food.

-------------------------
- Subject Lines
-------------------------
Please remember to use the following format for your subject lines:
SD 24YYMM.DD, Duty/Personal Log, Rank Name
e.g., SD 240502.01, CO's Log, Capt Rojac
e.g., SD 240502.01, Personal Log, Cropa Rojac
The [USS Chimera] part of the subject is placed automatically by the listserv, so you don't need to include it.
Also remember to include your details at the end of your log
e.g.,
Captain Cropa Rojac
Commanding Officer
USS Chimera NX 96899-B
-------------------------
- Logging Guidelines
-------------------------
Logging:
The weekly logging deadline is at Midnight (12:00AM/00:00) GMT/UTC (19:00 EST); all logs received after the deadline will be counted for the following week. If you are pressed for time and would like a log to count for the previous week, but it is sent after the deadline, please send an email to the command team when you send the log so that we can make the corrections.
Please remember that all MAJOR plot changes need to be cleared with the command staff before a log goes through! You can do this by sending the command staff (chimera-command@ucip.org ) a log labeled with "Draft" tagged to the subject line. We'll typically let you know if it's approved within 24 to 48 hours, or tell you what might need to be modified before it's sent to the listserv.
When using other characters in your logs, please keep in mind that person's characteristics. Character information can be found on the UCIP website or the USS Chimera website (under CREW - just click on the Star Trek symbol next to the character's name). If you're still unsure how to interact with a character, then privately mail the person
involved, and I'm sure they'll be willing to help.
Conversely, if you feel that your character is being portrayed incorrectly by someone please contact them to try to work out an agreeable solution. Just keep in mind when logging to treat other characters the way you'd like them to treat you - with the respect due to any member of Starfleet who is a specialist in their field.
If you think your log may be going out of bounds, then please ask! If you are having problems finding things to write about or would just like some help with your log, please contact your department head or the command team. Remember, you don't always have to log about things relating to the main plot - logs that develop your character's
personality are encouraged! We're eager to help if you're having trouble; just email the command team (chimera-command@ucip.org).

- On Report
-------------------------
Any officer who is Absent Without Leave (0) for two or more consecutive
weeks is considered "On Report." Crewmen on report should email the command staff immediately to explain their absence (too much to do in RL is a fine excuse) and say when they anticipate being able to log again in the future.
The following crewmen are on report:

- Removals/Resignations
-------------------------
The following crew have either resigned or have been dropped due to lack of activity. If they would like a position on the USS Chimera, they will need to reapply.

[USS Chimera] SD 240903.30 Joint Log, LtCmdr Rice (ACMO) & Cdt Brock (AMO)

= USS Chimera - Main Sickbay =

Alexander Rice sat in the CMO's officer behind the desk reading up on
medical reports, occasionally glancing through the transparent wall
panels at what the rest of the staff were doing. The office always
reminded him of a goldfish bowl, but not that he was sitting in it
himself, he could see the advantage of being able to look out and keep
an eye on things.

There were a number of new medical recruits - technicians, nurses and
even doctors - that were transferring over the Chimera; there had been
quite a shift in the medical personnel. Himself being new to the CMO
post, he was looking forward to meeting the new staff he would be
working with.

Pamela Brock lost in the ship. She had a tour of it, but when it came
time to report for duty, she got all nervous and frustrated. She
remembered that she should not get frustrated because when that
started, she could not think clear enough to do anything right. Pamela
hailed the turbolift and quickly told the computer her destination.
The computer acknowledged the request and the turbolift was off.
Pamela looked at her chronometer and noticed that she was running 5
minutes late already. She was going to be so embarrised showing up
late to her first day of duty.

Finally, in what seemed like forever, the turbolift stopped and she
got off to start the walk towards sickbay. She stepped through the
doors and looked around sickbay and then started to look for the CMO,
just to find him in his office. She said "Cadet Pamela Brock reporting
for duty. I am sorry I am late as it was an undersight," while
standing at attention.

Alexander looked up as the nervous-looking cadet hurriedly entered his
office and made his apology. It was clear from her demeanour that she
was fresh from SSF training, since they put a stronger emphasis on
formality than the rest of Starfleet did.

"Good morning, Cadet Brock," he said as he stood up and extended his
hand in greeting. "At ease. It doesn't matter that you're late, at
least you arrived..." but then stopped his train of thought, thinking
it probably wasn't a good idea to go into the high mortality rates of
new recruits during war time. "I've read your bio, impressive. Why did
you give up a private practice to enter Starfleet?"

Pamela thought about her reasoning to enter starfleet for a second. "Although I loved private practice, I have always longed to be in space to some capacity. When in private practice, I enjoyed it, but it was just not for me." Pamela answered truthfully.

Alexander smiled at Pamela. "It's always good to get experienced
medical cadets. Some of the new recruits don't even know how to handle
a dermal regenerator, and they call themselves doctors."

"I agree totally about the 'doctors' who don't know anything! I have came across several myself, not here yet, but elsewhere. I hope that there will be noone like that on board." Pamela answered looking around at the sickbay once more. "It seems pretty busy right this second. I read that there are going to be alot of new people coming on board this time, I guess that is why it looks so busy in here. I will be more than glad to get started right now on working if you do not mind. Is there anything in particular you would like me to start working on?"

"You're right, we have a lot of new Sickbay staff since many of the old staff were transferred out," Alexander nodded. "Most of them are just busy getting acquainted with the facilities, which is what I'd like you to do. All new crew will be requiring physicals as well as crew who have not had one for over three months. I'd like you to be one of the doctors running the physicals when you've settled in. It will be a good way to get to know some of the crew."

"Okay. I will get aquanted with sickbay today, and I will be ready to start working on the physicals frist thing tommorrow morning. That will give me one day to get familiar with everything I would think," Pamela said. She then turned and walked out into the sickbay to start getting familier with everything.
