[USS Chimera] SD241001.25 | JL - COps, ASec | MCapt Reese, 1Lt Castillo | "Danger Will Robinson"

= Command Center, Andor =

Jade was standing with Jones at the console he finally got a map up
and running, "alright so the buildings in red are the ones that
Castillo says the bomb is in." Jones said highlighting buildings, "the
buildings in blue are buildings that are stable and have wounded."
Jones said highlighting many buildings blue.

"Alright I want you and Kroitzer to split those buildings up but stay
clear of the two red ones." Jade said turning as she heard a noise
behind her. "Good your back what did you find?" She asked.

Charly sat the toolbox he had found on the console in front of him.
"I got a tricorder", he said dropping it down next to the box.  "And a
security pass-card", he smirked, seeing the expression on her face he
continued, "Don't ask where I got it".  Then he pointed back to the
toolbox and nodded his head, "That's got all kinds of stuff, snippers,
drivers, even a hammer".  He looked around and then remembered the
knife, "OH yah and this", he said sliding it from his back pocket and
holding it out to Jade.  "Just in case you mad at me again", he
winked.

"Don't tempt me." Jade said knowing that she could probably disarm him
and then cause him bodily harm before he even knew what happened.
"Alright Jones (NPC) we're heading out Kroitzer is in charge while we
deal with the bomb." Jade said looking at her AOps officer.

"Aye ma'am." Jones said turning back to the console and was wondering
what was taking the CEO so long on getting a sitrep from the doctors.

With that Jade grabbed the tricorder, "you get to carry the tool box."
Jade said stepping outside the tent and back into the winter hell land
she wished that it would've just stayed a winter wonderland but the
explosion turned it into hell. "Alright let's go." Jade said deciding
to allow Castillo while she hung back behind him.

Charly nodded, picked the toolbox back up and moved towards the exit.
Several minutes of silence passed by as the pair trudged through the
snow towards the Northern complex before Castillo glanced back at
Jade, "It's colder than a witches tit out here", he said, laughing at
his own joke.

"Very funny." Jade said shaking her head, {don't kill the Marine.}
Jade thought to herself as she walked along he was right though it was
very cold out. "So did you get any info on what the bomb might look
like?" She asked wanting to have all the information before they got
there.

Castillo sighed.  "I don't even know if there is a bomb", he said
without looking back,  "But I would assume that it looks like any
other bomb, you know with different colored wires".

The two marines continued towards their destination and once within
view of the entrance were able to see several dozen men and women in
local security uniforms both escorting people out of the building and
not allowing anyone else in.  As they got closer they were quickly
approached by two men carrying phaser rifles.

"You can't go this way", one of the local police said  holding out his
open hand.

For a brief second Castillo smiled hoping they could now end this wild
goose chase, but a quick glance back at Captain Reese told him
otherwise.  "Umm, yah well, we're bomb disposal experts and we need to
get into that building", he said, still not even certain that there
was a bomb.

"Well why didn't you say so", one of the guards spoke up immediately,
"We discovered it about fifteen minutes ago, its on the second level".

"You mean there really is a bomb", Castillo blurted out before
thinking,  "I mean, of course, second level, that's what we were
told", he corrected, then looked back at Jade.  "Lets go assistant, we
have a bomb to defuse".

Jade just rolled her eyes she would let that slip seeing how he didn't
try to weasel his way out of doing this this time. Once inside they
made there way up to the second level. Jade made a quick scan around
the room luckily the lights were still working and the building was in
stable condition. "Okay Lt walk very slowly." Jade said seeing the
bomb attached to the back wall.

Once they were closer Jade looked at visually trying to see how it was
designed there was no timer which means it's going to be remote
detonation. She then took out the tricorder and started scanning the
device the tricorder picked up that it was definitely armed but that
was about it. "Alright Castillo hand me the sonic screw driver." Jade
said holding out her hand.

Charly popped open the toolbox and reached inside for the requested
item.  He handed it to her reluctantly,  "Do you even know what your
doing?", he said, his eyes glued to the explosive that could go off at
any moment.
Jade took the sonic screw driver, "alright no more talking and hand me whaI ask for and only when I ask for." Jade said looking at Castillo. She needed to concentrate seeing that one wrong move could set the explosive off killing everyone in the area of the building and maybe further.

***Holding Cell Three, Deck 5, USS Beijing***

Walters entered the hot holding cell and motioned to the two Starfleet guards still in their assault gear to pick up the profusely sweating figure of Captain Jamis Tawrens and drag him to the makeshift interrogation room in Holodeck One.  Walters had played with the environmental and gravity controls in this section of Deck 5 increasing the temperature to Sahara like conditions and the gravity up to 3 times Earth standard.  Both the heat and the gravity had vastly drained the energy and resistance of the captured renegade Starfleet personnel.  This man, Captain Jamis Tawrens had been in command of the ship which Walters and Rojac had stormed.  Tawrens was also the highest rank officer captured by them and as such was the most likely to know any information.

Walters watched as the two guards (Vulcans beneath the layers of armour) forcibly sat Tawrens on a metal chair which was bolted to the ground, behind a metal table which was also bolted to the ground in the dark room.  Plastic restraints were used to strap Tawrens' legs tightly to the chair and his hands loosely to the table.  Walters signalled for the Starfleet guards to wait outside the dark room.  Even in the heat and heavy gravity Walters moved easily to his seat opposite Tawrens, he was used to these environs being not that much different from where he grew up.  The middle aged Captain Jamis Tawrens was very evidently not used to these environmental conditions and it showed.

Walters opened a chilled plastic bottle of water and took a leisurely drink then placed it down at his side of the table taunting the dehydrated Tawrens.  Walters pressed a button on the table and caused powerful bright lights behind him to shine into the face of Tawrens causing him to squint.  "Captain Jamis Tawrens of the USS Potomac training ship attatched to Starfleet Academy.  You've had a long if not remarkably notable career.  So why would a long term seemingly loyal Captain throw away a long career and all he's worked for to cause a few meaningless terrorist bombings?"  Walters took another drink of the chilled water and placed it down in the middle of the table.  "Care to explain why you're betraying the Federation?"

Tawrens snatched the bottle of water from the table and gulped down the contents and said defiantly "Go screw yourself.  I'm not telling you anything, I am invoking my right to silence."  Walters laughed unpleasantly.  "Care to tell me why you're laughing?"  Tawrens asked suspiciously.

Walters replied "Two reasons.  Reason One, the cocktail of chemicals that were spiked into that water will guarantee you telling me the truth.  They not only include an enhanced truth serum but also a drug which amplifies the signals received by your nerve endings meaning something as insignificant as a papercut will cause unbearable agony.  The third chemical causes you to stay awake unable to black out from the pain.   Reason Two, under Article Seventeen, Subsection B of the Mutual Defence Treaty between the Federation and the Erassian Alliance, wartime provisions allow for the transfer of prisoners between powers meaning despite being held on a Starfleet ship you are a prisoner of the Erassian Alliance without the protection of Federation rules governing the treatment of prisoners.

Tawrens eyes went wide and his skin paled as the realisation of what had just been said set in and the drugs began taking effect.  Walters smiled and stood up and grabbed Tawrens left hand pinning it down whilst the right feebly tried to loosen Walters' grip.  Walters continued "Let's start with who gave you the orders to carry out the terrorist attacks?"

"I can't they'll kill me..."  Tawrens let out a blood curdling scream as Walters bent his left pinkie back with a sickening crack.

"It's the ring finger next.  Your bosses may kill you but I'll do far worse and you'll still be alive and conscious throughout the whole thing."  Tawrens let out another scream as Walters broke his ring finger with another sickening crack.  "Middle finger next.  I'll say again.  Who gave the order?"

"N..nn..no more!  It was Ad..Admiral Lomax, he's the..."  Tawrens abruptly stopped talking and black lines began spreading beneath his skin.  Walters released his grip on Tawrens' wrist and backed away from the table.

"Guards!"  Walters shouted as Tawrens started to thrash violently snapping the plastic restraints on his wrists.  Tawrens stood apparently no longer inhibited by the gravity as the guards rushed into the room.  Tawrens lunged at Walters with wires bursting out from beneath the surface of  his hands striking out towards Walters who just barely managed to dive out of the way.  "Shoot this bastard!"  Walters yelled and the Vulcan guards fired their handheld phasers on heavy stun at the now monstrous Tawrens without effect.  Walters scrambled to his feet and snatched a phaser from a vulcan guard.  He thumbed it to vaporize and fired it at Tawrens who managed to let out a scream of rage before being completely atomised.

Walters said to the guards as he handed back the phaser.  "Lock down the area where the prisoners are and if any of them turn into that vaporize them."  Walters headed to the nearest turbolift pulling up information on Admiral Lomax  on a small padd he kept in his trouser pocket.  He ordered the turbolift to the bridge and read the information.  'Vice Admiral George Lomax, former Head of Starfleet Medical Bioweapons Countermeasures Division.  Died Stardate 240503.26.'  The turbolift arrived at the bridge and Walters made a beeline for Captain Rojac ignoring the demands of the Beijing's Captain for an explanation of the phaser fire.  Stepping up to Rojac he breathed quietly handing over the padd.  "Captain we have a major problem..."

[Ready Room - Deck One - USS Beijing]

The Commander of the Beijing, after being cleared by security, allowed Rojac use of his personal office to contact Major General Sharpe on Earth, and his own ship in the Reran system.

Rojac took a seat behind the small utilitarian desk. The decor of this small patrol ship was less luxurious than the Chimera's own. It lacked space, but was streamlined for a more utilitarian purpose. He logged on to the computer system and accessed the communications system.

"Computer." Rojac declared, "locate Major General Richard Sharpe, San Francisco, Earth. Communication Priority one. Voice authorization Rojac-Alpha-One."

[Ground Zero - Starfleet Transit Station - San Francisco, Earth]

Sharpe was in the remains of the ticket hall, necking a bottle of water. They'd finally got Brian out of the rubble, and Richard was covered in dust and grime. He swallowed one bottle of water, and then grabbed a second, and poured it over his face to wash off the loose dust.

An aide came over to him, and snapped to attention. "Sir, there's a communication for you from the USS Beijing in orbit. Priority One encoded sir."

Richard looked up at the young marine lieutenant, and sighed. "Very well." He said, and trudged off to the MMCC. As he entered, everyone stood to attention, as marines invariably did. "At ease." Sharpe growled, and approached the communications terminal.

"Put them on." He said.

The face of Cropa Rojac appeared on the viewer at the front of the make-shift command center. The captain quickly found the Major General he was looking for, despite his gruff appearance.

"You look worse than when i left you, General." Cropa said.

"Yes, well, some of us have been working." Sharpe snarled at the cocky Captain. "Report, Captain."

Rojac nodded, with a slight smirk evident beneath his beard. "We took the freight shuttle the terrorists were using and followed it to the pre-programmed rendezvous coordinates. We discovered an unregistered freighter commonly used by pirates running the border near the Alpha Eridani system. We landed in the shuttle bay and falsified a warp core breach, drawing the attention of the patrol ships Beijing and London."

Rojac took a deep breath. "And now you see me here." He smiled. "Security teams from the Beijing and London have secured the freighter. And reinforcements are in-bound." Rojac said. "How are things on your end?"

"The city is secure, and Starfleet Headquarters is surrounded by marines and tanks. We've pulled out as many survivors as we could, and we're in the process of shoring up the terminal building to prevent collapse."

"Sounds like dirty work, General." Rojac said, his face sullen now. "I do not envy you." He took a deep breath before continuing. "Things are wrapping up here. Do you require assistance down there?"

"We're pretty much sorted here." Richard said. "I imagine in a day or so, I can head back to Unity."

"Okay then." Roajc said. "One more thing i think you should know. I received a message from my Chief of Security. It appears some disease has taken hold of UNITY and Aeran III. It's affecting the people who are rioting throughout the vessel. The Chimera has been quarantined off."

Richard looked ashen face. "Good lord."

"Have you contacted your wife, General?" Rojac asked.

"No, We've been unable to contact Unity." Sharpe said, sadly.

"I'll try from here then, General." Rojac said, nodding. "Rojac out."

[USS Chimera] SD 241001.30 | Joint Log | President Spock & SecDef Malone

=Somewhere in the French Alps=
=Presidental Bunker=

President Spock stood quietly looking over the holographic map of Earth. It should locations where these, what could only be described as terrorists, had attacked.

"Mr. President?"

Spock turned to face his chief of staff.

"We received a brief communique from Councillor So in West Virginia. He said that only two members of the council remain unaccounted for. They were apparently off-world on separate functions."

Spock nodded, "I want to return to Paris as soon as possible."

"But there are still reports from ..."

"I'm not concerned with reports. The citizens of the Federation need to see their president serving them from his office and not hiding in some bunker deep inside a mountain."

The chief of staff shook his head, "But the danger ..."

"Is perhaps a bit overstated. At least as far as the presidency is concerned. From these reports, Paris has been untouched. With additional security, it will remain so."

"But some of our security is the problem. Starfleet officers have turned against the government and starfleet."

"Then I must address them and the situation, but I can not do so from here. I will speak to the Federation from my office sometime in the next 24 hours. Is this understood?"

"Yes, Mr. President. But I think it is a mistake placing yourself in such a vulnerable position."

"Perhaps."

An aide rushed in and whispered something into the chief of staff's ear.

"Sir," the chief of staff said. "The Secretary of Defense is on the comm link."

"Very well," Spock said. "I shall speak to him here."

The chief of staff nodded as the image of the map was replaced with that of Harold Malone.

"Mr. Secretary," Spock said. "It is good to see that you are well."

"Likewise Mister President." Malone said, with sincerity. "With all that's going on, its gratifying to see a friendly face."

Spock nodded, "Indeed. We have lost a number of high-ranking personnal today. Knowing that you are not among them is most ... gratifying."

"I was nearly one of them." Malone frowned. "General O'Neill of Starfleet Security turned on us, and nearly executed me."

"General O'Neill?" Spock's eyebrow rose. "That is unfortunate. I have received similar reports of trusted starfleet officers perpetrating such acts of betrayal. This now has to be considered an attempted coup of our government and military."

"I've received confirmation that we've lost twenty six starships, and that the government of Alpha Centarui has been overrun and the rebels hold the Government quarter." Malone said.

"Do you have any suggestions Mr. Secretary?" Spock asked.

"I don't, Mister President." Malone said, sadly. "Contingencies exist for such cases, but not in such numbers. I don't think anyone truly believed Starfleet would attempt a coup against the Federation… again."

Spock remembered the incident years ago when then-Captain Picard and the Enterprise-D prevented a neural parasitic race from taking control of the Federation. At the time, Spock was deeply involved in his reunification efforts on Romulus.

"Mr. President, I doubt these officers are under the control of the 'blue gills'," the chief of staff said, referring to the nickname given to the parasites. "They would have attempted to infiltrate key members of starfleet, not kill them. This has to be something else."

"Agreed," Spock said. "Though I am not ruling out the possibility."

Spock focused on the image of Malone.

"Mr. Secretary, did General O'Neill say anything before attempting to execute you?"

"Just monologue." Malone replied. "Nothing that actually would help us."

"Most unfortunate," Spock said, showing a slight sign of disappointment. "We need to find out which starship captains and starbase commanders we can trust. In addition, I want you to appoint an acting chief of starfleet security. Someone you can rely on. This person will need to regain control of this planet. Then we can focus our efforts on Alpha Centarui."

"Well, I've heard that General Sharpe has secured control of San Fransisco." Malone said. "He might be useful."

"There is something else," Spock said. "Earlier today, the security council voted to approve use of the TechEx. We may need to use these weapons to keep the Romulans from taking advantage of our internal strife."

Malone exhaled deeply. "Might mean stepping up the strike program."

Spock closed his eyes for a moment before opening them to speak again.

"I am going to address the Federation later today in order to assure the citizens, and anyone else listening, that the government chosen by them is still in charge," Spock said. "In addition, I am going to address the Romulans. I am going to give them a deadline to approve the terms of surrender we issued to them three weeks ago. If they do not accept these terms, then we will have no other course of action."

Harold nodded. "I think it would be best to reassure the people of the Federation that there still is a government." He said. "It might also draw out whoever is behind all this."

"I will contact you after my address," Spock said. "Until then, live long and prosper."

"Peace and long life, Mister President." Malone replied.

[USS Chimera] SD 241001.30, ||SB 234: UNITY|| Personal Log, Cdr Rick Rodgers

=Secondary Classroom=
=Starbase UNITY=

Rick kept his concentration on the small open hatch in front of him next to the main door. He was attempting to counter the attempts of those outside, who were trying to manually override the locks on the door. It wasn't too difficult, a surprise considering Rick recognized a couple of those trying to open the door were two of his engineers.

On the monitor next to the hatch, and out of the eye site of the children in the room, were images from outside in the corridor. A couple of dozen people ... if you'd still call them that ... were hovering around the door waiting for it to be opened. So, Rick had to reprogram the locking mechanisms to prevent this from happening.

The good news was that, once he reprogrammed the locks, he had a half hour before they were able to figure out a way to counter-counter his efforts. One time, they had even managed to crack open the door before Rick was able to seal it shut again. Because of this, he had set up an alarm of sorts that would let out a chime when they were close to opening the door.

This gave him a little time to rest. Unfortunately, there was a second door leading to the other classrooms. These infected people were now on the other end of that door, so Rick had to double his efforts. This meant that every 15 to 20 minutes, he had to go back to work.

The problem was, they had been in here for twelve hours and Rick was feeling a little weary. The good news was that they had replicated at least three days of food before the replicator went down. They also had access to a small lavatory that was attached directly to the classroom. This provided them not only with waste receptacles, but plenty of drinkable water.

It was late now and most of the children were asleep, taking up most of the deck space. Rick saw Rachel tossing and turning, obviously having nightmares. No doubt ignited by today encounter with the infected.

More good news was that Rick had learned that Mai and the baby were safe. That made it easier for him to focus on taking care of Rachel and the other children.

"There, that should do it for another few minutes," Rick said, leaving the hatch open so he could easily access it.

"How long can you keep them out?" Mrs. Collinsworth asked.

"If I was an android, I'd say indefinitely. But since I'm not..."

"A little tired, are we?" Mrs. Collinsworth asked.

Rick responded with a yawn.

"You know, if you teach myself or one of the other instructors how to do this, that would give you some time to get some sleep," she said.

"None of you are remotely trained for this," Rick said as he took a seat next to where Rachel was sleeping. "I doubt many people on this base are."

She took a seat next to him.

"We're fast learners."

"It's not that," Rick said, then turned to face her. "I'm doing everything I can just to counter what they are doing. Anyone could open that door, overriding my codes, given time, but keeping it closed is another matter. I just simply couldn't teach you how without giving you lessons on a wide variety of topics, which would take weeks, maybe just a few days if I didn't have to go into some of the basics."

They were quiet for a moment. Rick closed his eyes for a minute or so.

"Can I at least get you some coffee?" she asked.

Rick smiled, with his eyes still closed, "Coffee would be great."

She stood and walked over to a pot of hot coffee already made. Rick opened his eyes and watched her pour him a mug.

"By the way, you've been Rachel's teacher for a year and a half now and I don't even know your first name," he said.

"Ophelia," she said, returning with his mug, handing it to him.

"Well, Ophelia, thank you. This will get me through the next several hours, maybe longer," he said, taking a sip of coffee as she returned to her chair.

"My son didn't want me to teach here," she said. "He felt it was too dangerous here."

"What does your son do for a living?" Rick asked.

"He's a foreman for an asteroid mine on the edge of the badlands. Anyhow, he hates the idea of me being here. He just doesn't understand. I need to be here."

She pointed to one of the older children, a 12-year-old boy, on the far end of the room, "You see him. His father is a chef at one of the eateries at the promenade. When the base was evacuated during the Romulan attack at the beginning of the war, he stayed. He didn't need to, but stayed behind because he felt that those defending the base needed someone to cook for them and do whatever else was necessary to keep them focused on the fighting. He asked me to help take care of his son before we were evacuated."

There was a long pause before she continued.

"These children, Rachel included, are like family to me. That's what my son doesn't quite understand. I will not only teach them, but I'll care for them and protect them if necessary. Even if I have to protect that boy from his own father."

"I ... I don't follow," Rick said.

"That boy's father. I recognized him. He's one of those ... things out in the corridor," she said with some sorrow. "In fact, I recognize a few of their parents out there."

Rick took another drink of coffee to think for a moment. He could easily be one of those infected, trying to get in here and kill his own daughter. He wondered how long they would have lasted trying to keep the door sealed. He hated the thought.

"Most people think that my father is ... was ... the biggest influence in my life," Rick said, trying to change the subject. "And when it came to me joining starfleet and being an engineer, he was. But my teacher on the Dunkirk was as big of an influence when it came to wanting to learn about everything else. She was a wonderful lady. She taught on the Dunkirk because her husband was the ships barber. When he died, she remained behind a couple of years longer. It wasn't until shortly after I went to the academy that she finally retired.

"But you know what ..." Rick again turned to face Ophelia. "... she attended my graduation from the academy. What impressed me was that she had retired on Vega, so it was no easy trip for her. What was even more impressive was that, less than a week before my graduation, she had attended another former student's graduation from the Vulcan Science Academy, if you can call it a graduation. She had to go through several kilometers of red tape with the science academy to attend, but she did. Since she retired, she has made it a point to attend the graduation of all of her students from either Starfleet Academy, college or whatever vocational institution they may have attended.

"Until tonight, I never understood why. But, thanks to you, now I know."

Ophelia smiled, "I suppose you're never to old to learn, are you?"

Rick smiled back, "Teachers living on starships and starbases don't receive nearly enough credit, especially during times of war. You should all receive medals."

"Not necessary, but thanks," she said.

A few minutes later, the alarm on the door leading to the other classrooms went off.

"Well, I guess it's back to work for me," Rick sighed, placing the now empty coffee mug down as he stood and headed to the door in question.

[USS Chimera] SD 241001.28 || Blockade Runner Part II ||

=Main Bridge, U.S.S. Magellan=
=In orbit of Aeran III=

+ Unknown vessel. I repeat, you are in violation of quarantine. If you do not turn your ship around at once, I will be forced to fire on you. Do you acknowledge?+ The voice of Captain Mayo came on the line.

The vessel did not change course. Gron slowed to 1/4 impulse and gained a complete target lock on the shuttle's impulse drive systems.

+
UNITY to Red Squadron and Magellan.+ UNITY hailed them over the comm-link. +Use of force authorized. Red squadron, you are ordered to disable the propulsion systems. Magellan you will hold tractor and take the crew into custody.+

That was all Gron needed. A piercing beam of orange light lanced out from Red One's Valkyrie and struck the shuttle's port impulse drive as it passed by. The drive fizzled and sparked as Red Two flew in from the opposite direction and fired on the starboard drive. The shuttle's sub-light capabilities were dead in space.

= Civilian Shuttle Borialis =

The colonist was sent flying from her seat as the Valkyrie's flew past firing on the shuttle banging her head on a bulkhead rendering her momentarily stunned. After a few minutes she managed to get back to her seat and brought a damage report then hit the console in front of her as she realized her impulse drive was screwed her only chance was to go to warp but she knew that without impulse it would be nearly impossible to slow after exiting warp.

<SNIP>

=Main Bridge, U.S.S. Magellan=

"Sir...?" came from the chief tactical officer.

"Are we close enough to lock on with a tractor beam?" Mayo asked.

"Not yet, sir. We'll be in range in one minute."

Mayo rubbed his beard again, hoping to end this with no further hostilities.

"Captain! The shuttle is attempting to engage its warp drive!"

"What!?" Mayo stood. "Do we have a transporter lock?"

"Yes, sir."

"Have sickbay to prepare an area with a force field. I want her beamed directly there."

"Aye, sir."

= Civilian Shuttle Borialis =

As the colonist prepared to engage her warp drive a shower of light passed over her and she was suddenly in unfamiliar surroundings, startled see looked around erratically, she lunged at the first person she saw only to feel the sting of a force fieldrepelling her away and forcing her to the ground, as she tried to get up she felt her head spin and then collapsed.

=Main Bridge, U.S.S. Magellan=

"Sickbay to bridge. We have one female colonist in containment. She's unconscious at the moment."

"Understood. Keep me posted on her condition. Mayo out."

Frederick returned to his chair and looked over at his XO.

"What do you think?" he asked.

"This will not be the last ship to attempt to leave the planet," Commander McFadden answered.

 Mayo nodded, "Agreed."

He paused for a moment as he looked at the viewscreen at the shuttle off in the distance.

"Helm, return us to our regular patrol course. And tell those fighter pilots thanks for their help."

 "Aye, sir."

"Sir!" The on-duty communications officer hollered from the axillary station. "We have a priority transmission from UNITY Ops."

 "On screen," Mayo ordered.

The image of Captain Tedros Chisulo appeared on the screen. "Captain Mayo. I have some distressing news."

"What kind of distressing news, captain?"

"There has been a riot on the civilian ring of the station. It appears the disease has made it's way here to UNITY. We have locked down the effected sections and are trying to deal with the situation."

Some concern finally crept across Mayo's face.

"What can we do?" the Magellan CO asked.

"Captain," Tedros said, "I am transferring control of this blockade in your hands while we coordinate a response here."

"Understood. If you need to, you might be able to transfer some of the Valkyries to the shipyard so that they are not affected," Mayo suggested. "We'll still need them to impliment the quarantine of the planet, and perhaps even the starbase."

"That may suffice." Tedros nodded. "It is in your hand now, Captain."

"We'll do what we can on this end. Mayo out."

Frederick stood and looked down at his XO.

[USS Chimera] SD 241001.28, ||SB 234: UNITY|| Personal Log, Cdr Rick Rodgers

=Main Promenade
=Starbase UNITY=

Since Rick's return from his work on Project Los Alamos, he made it a point to spend as much time as he could with his family. He felt he needed his family more now than ever to wash away the filth he felt for being involved in Los Alamos.

Maybe the innocence of his children would bring back some of his own self-perceived innocence. Deep down that's probably what it was. But, in reality, he just wanted to be more of a father than a starfleet officer or an engineer.

One thing he did notice since returning home was the attention focused on his newborn son. It was necessary, he realized, since babies required constant attention and care. Even so, he felt sorry for Rachel since she was no longer the center of his and Mai's attention. He didn;'t want his daughter to feel jealous of the baby, so he made it a point to spend as much time with her as possible away from young Michael Anthony.

Today, he took an extra hour off from his lunch break to take Rachel to the promenade for some ice cream.

"Can I have another?" she said while still licking away at one in her small hands. Her mouth was covered with a mixture of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry.

"That's your second one," Rick said. "If your mother knew I allowed you to have two ice cream cones, she would be upset with both of us."

"But you ate two," she said, giving him a questioning stare.

"Yes ... well ... I'm bigger than you are and require more ice cream."

She rapidly shook her head.

"That's not what mommy says. She says you shouldn't have any ice cream. That you already getting a little chubby."

"Is that what mommy says?" Rick asked.

"Uh, huh," she said as she started eating away at the cone.

"Well, you can tell your mommy that I'm still in excellent physical shape. I can't help it that I've been too busy recently to workout like I use to do."

Rachel ignored her father as she finished off her second ice cream cone.

"Can I have another?" she asked again.

Rick grinned as he reached over to her and tickled her, "No, you can't have another. We need to get you back to class and I need to get back to work."

"Do I have to?" she asked as Rick took a towel and wiped off Rachel's mouth.

"Yes, you do."

"But Mrs. Collinsworth said I could take rest of today off."

"Is that so?"

"Uh, huh."

"Riiiiight. I'll ask her when I drop you back off to school."

"But she said ..."

Rick didn't listen to the rest of her argument as he placed her on his shoulders and they walked away. A few minutes later, they were walking down the corridor toward Rachel's classroom which seemed quiet. Too quiet, in fact. Usually, the corridor was busy this time of day.

The quietness was interrupted by a slight noise. Rick turned and saw three figures at the far end of the corridor. Two were in civilian clothes, while one was wearing a starfleet uniform. At first glance, Rick didn't think nothing of it. Even so, he took Rachel off his shoulders and held her in his arms.

The three figures stood quietly and looked at Rick and Rachel. Rick's eyes adjusted as he got a better look at them. There was something wrong with them. Their faces were deformed. He didn't recognized them as any race living on Unity.

His suspicions grew as they at first slowly moved toward them. Then, when he took a couple of steps back, they started to run at Rick and Rachel. As Rick took off running, Rachel started screaming. She had apparently got a better look at the them and was frightened.

As Rick ran, two more figures appeared on the other end of the corridor. They too ran toward Rick and Rachel. Just before they caught up with him, Rick arrived at Rachel's classroom, letting Rachel down long enough to punch in his codes, sealing off the door. He could hear them banging onto the door from the outside.

"Commander Rodgers to security," Rick said after tapping his comm badge.

"What's going on, Commander?" Mrs. Collinsworth asked as the other children looked up at him.

"I have no idea," Rick said as he rushed over to the other door and sealed it off as well.

"Monsters," Rachel said.

"Security here."

"We have a problem near the classrooms. Something ... I don't know ... something is wrong with some of the people down here."

"Sir, we're getting similar reports from throughout the starbase. Apparently there is some sort of virus spreading throughout the base. We're sealing off the civilian sections."

"I have children down here that need to be evacuated," Rick said.

"I'm sorry, Commander, but you are on your own for now."

Rick almost shouted "Damn it!", but noticed all of the young eyes focused on him. They were starting to get scared as Rachel explained what had happened. Rick had the children from the other connected classrooms brought here so he could seal off their sections. The room on one end, away from the doors, was crowded as the children sat huddled together on the deck.

Rick cursed himself for leaving his phaser in his office. He didn't like carrying it when he was with Rachel. So, he looked around for a weapon, only finding a flag staff that held the Federation flag.

"What are we going to do, Commander?" one of the other teachers asked.

"Stay here and hope that the doors hold," Rick said as he respectfully removed the flag from the staff and folded it before placing it on one of the shelves.

[USS Chimera] SD 241001.28 | Duty Log | SecDef. Harold Malone

OOC: Try listening to Melanie C - I turn to you - or - Rolling Stones - Paint It Black, whilst reading this. No special reason, those songs just kick ass :D

=/\= Cheyenne Mountain Complex - Colorado =/\=

Malone found himself pacing up and down the small strip of space within his stateroom. He felt like a prisoner in this place. Oh sure, they said it was for his own safety, but what was the ruddy point being safe and alive, if he wasn't allowed to do the job he'd obviously been saved to do. General O'Neill was sticking to his line that he was not at liberty to allow the 'guests' to do anything more than wait around, until he heard back from his superiors. I mean the fact that they were dead didn't seem to bother the General in the slightest. Awaiting orders from a dead woman was completely moronic.

It was times like this where Harold thrived, times of great adversity and trial. He could be relied upon to remain cool and collected whilst chaos reigned supreme. He needed to be doing his job, not cooped up in this room. As far as he knew, the Federation was falling around his ears, and he needed to be doing something about it. There was only one thing preventing him busting out of the room and demanding that he do his job to the General, and that was the slender form of Chantelle Brisco, who lay curled up in a ball on his bed. She was obviously suffering terribly from watching her best friend be vaporised in front of her, and he wouldn't leave her, not like this.

He sat down next to her on the bed, and put his hand on her shoulder, allowing the warmth of his touch to remind her that she as not alone today. He'd done this repeatedly, and each time, he'd get nothing from her. She was in her own little world right now, and there was no drawing her from it.

There was a knock at the door, and Harold looked up. "Come in." He said.

General O'Neill entered the room, and took stock of the view before him, and cleared his throat. "Is this a bad time, Mister Secretary?"

"No, get on with it." Malone snapped.

"We've recieved reports of multiple starships going dark." He said, as if it were an every day occurence.

"Dark?" Malone asked, knowing what he meant, but he wanted the man to spell it out.

"They have stopped transmitting to Starfleet, and have reset their transponder codes." O'Neill said.

"How many?" Malone asked.

"Twenty six starships." O'Neill responded. "We've also got reports that other rogue elements are striking on the core worlds, and that one group has siezed control of Alpha Centauri's government quarter."

Harold stood up and walked around the bed to the General. "Are you here to tell me that I can't do anything about any of this?" Malone asked.

"Actually sir..." O'Neill said. "Its more complicated than you think..." He produced a phaser from his holster. "I'm sorry sir, I truly am, but if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem."

Malone looked at the man wide eyed. "You?!" He snapped.

"The Federation will destroy itself with its lack of focus on the war, Mister Secretary." O'Neill said. "My comrades and I believe that there's a better way to win this war, without being constrained by the Federation Council's stupid morality."

"What morality?" Malone asked, stunned at this revelation.

"The preservation of Romulan life." O'Neill said simply. "We believe that in order to preserve the peace, the Romulan's need to be exterminated."

"You're mad man!" Malone snapped. "President Spock will never allow Federation Starships to massacre helpless women and children in the Romulan Empire. Not with his deep routed beliefs in Unification."

"That's why we're going to 'replace' President Spock, and the entire council who don't agree with us." O'Neill said. "We'll use the Tech Ex without remorse, and we'll use subspace weaponry against the Romulan Bast-"

He didn't get to finish, as Chantelle, who had got up unobservered and snuck up behind O'Neill, had karate chopped him in the back of the neck, and knocked him down. With a swift round-house kick to his head, he was down and out. Picking up his dropped phaser, she looked up at Harold.

"We need to stop them." She said.

"I think that goes without saying." He said. "I must inform the President at once."

= Bridge, USS Chimera =

Ian (NPC) finally made it to the bridge, "report Melonni (NPC)." Vaughn said as he walked over to the main operations console.

"It appears that some kind of disease is spreading across Aeran III and now the station." Livia said bringing up the reports, "but it seems they've it under control on UNITY." Livia added as she allowed Ian to read the reports.

"Alright." Ian said after finishing reading the reports they were very strange apparently the victims of this disease wires would spring from them. Ian looked up, "Ensign over here." Ian said to the Science officer.

The young Ensign looked up and tentatively walked over, "yes sir." He said trying to keep his voice level and calm.

"I know you can't leave the ship but I want you to contact medical and science and see if you can help from here." Ian said looking at the officer.

"Yes sir." He said shaking a little as he glanced down at the report that described what was happening. He then turned and headed back to his console.

"Melonni I need you to start running scans to see if we can maybe help security on UNITY track the infected." Ian said knowing that there wasn't a lot they could do after Cortez put the Chimera on lock down.

"Aye sir." Livia said moving out of the primary ops console and moving to auxiliary ops looking for any medical reports or files she needed a base reading before she could even begin working on scanning the station.

Ian then stepped into primary ops and continued going through reports there was a lot of confusion mainly from not knowing what they were dealing with down to civilian hysteria. He then started going through the Aeran III reports seeing if they had any useful information.

[Bridge - Unregistered Freighter - In Orbit of Luna]

It was a long fight up to the Bridge, but Rojac and Walters made it with little difficulty. Walters with his brutally efficient Erassian training showed little mercy as they plowed their way through the throngs of ship hands manning the vessel. Rojac showed little to none himself. These, traitors, had just attacked the heart of his organization - betraying the very oath they had taken as Starfleet Officers. They deserved justice.

They paused outside the reinforced bridge door. Walters walked up to inspect it.

Walters used a combat knife to bust open the panel where the doors control circuits were.  After fiddling with the wires for a minute he admitted defeat.  "I can't get access although admittedly breaking and entering isn't really listed on my skill set."

Rojac took a spare phaser from his belt that he pulled from a dead terrorist and played with the power settings. "This should work." He set it to overload and set it at the foot of the door. "Fire in the hole Major." He said, running back around the turn in the corridor.

Walters followed quickly and only just made it around the corner when the phaser went overload and caused a deafening explosion in the tight confines of the corridor.  "You know that's a sign of you thinking more like an Erassian, right Captain?  If you run into a problem you cant overcome simply use a bigger boom!"  Without waiting for a reply Walters turned the corner and stormed into the Bridge with Rojac just behind him.

Upon emerging through the smouldering rubble of the doorway onto the Bridge and fired a two shot burst into a reacting crewman.  Roaring in a voice that would intimidate a drill sergeant Walters yelled a quote from one of his favourite movies.  "Everybody be cool this is a robbery.  Any of you fucking pricks move and I'll execute every mother fucking last one of you!"

Rojac passed a questioning glance at the back of his XO's head. He didn't catch the reference to an antique 20th Century American film, and instead chalked it up to some bizarre form of Erassian humor.

Rojac pointed his phaser's business toward the most authoritative looking man in the center of the room. "You are all under the custody of the United Federation of Planets." Rojac declared loudly while casting menacing glares at the group of experienced faces that scowled at him. "Surrender peaceably, and you will live."

"Do you really expect the two of you can stop all of us?" The grey haired man int the red collar replied. "You are out-"

He was going to say outnumbered, but before he could finish his sentence an armed security team from the USS Beijing materialized on the small bridge in full tactical assault armor and charged phaser rifles. "EVERYONE DOWN!" The green collared Lieutenant shouted.

"Lieutenant!"  Walters called in a commanding tone.  "My name is Major Scott Walters of the Erassian Alliance currently seconded as XO to the USS Chimera-C of Starfleet Special Forces based out of Starbase 234: Unity.  The man behind me is my Commanding Officer Captain Cropa Rojac.  We are here under the orders of Major General Richard Sharpe of the SSF First Task Force Marine Expedition Force to apprehend these men who are responsible for the terrorist bombings on Earth."

"We falsified the warp core breach signal, Lieutenant." Rojac said. "Have your ship check the database."

The security Lieutenant looked suspicious, but he tapped his combadge and called the Beijing.

"I realise you have to take control of the situation so I'm going to lower my rifle slowly to the ground."  Walters slowly lowered his rifle to the ground keeping a a close eye on both the new assault team and the bridge crew.  Only the slightest suspicious move and he would drop into an evade and fire movement.

Luckily, or perhaps because they had armed security staring down at them through phaser rifles, no one moved.

"You check out Captain." The Lieutenant replied. "My CO has ordered me to secure the vessel and apprehend all suspects." He nodded to his subordinates who advanced toward the bridge crew and began attaching restraining devices.

"Good." Rojac said. "Then we request transport to your ship. We would like to contact San Francisco."

As of now I am on LOA.
I have asked Rojac to give me a month.
I'm sorry if it disrupts anything but the plot is almost
ended. Bren has said he will try to log a science log so
that might well bring a solution to the demins.

I think its only fair to explain my reason which has nothing
to do with RL.

I no longer have the desire to log on Unity / Chimera and
will not visit the channel.
I am also asking for LOA from ISD even though I know that
will cause problems in Mumas absence.
For various reasons that I will not go into now, I feel a

Psychic powers?............

He was immediately greeted by Marine Captain Remington and a civilian doctor who introduced himself as Robert Beaumont.

"We've been expecting you", Remington spoke after exchanging greetings.

"Good", Cortez responded, "Then you know why I'm here", he asked.

"Yes", Beaumont spoke up, "but I'm afraid you wont find what your looking for".

"And what am I looking for Doctor?".

Remington shot a sideways glance at the doctor.

Actions speaking louder than words?.......

"Is that...", the young marine said stepping towards a decapitated head, "Oh shit, that's Rico...that's Rico...GAME OVER MAN...I'm getting out of here". he began to scream hysterically.

"Shut him up", Remington shouted just before Richards fist slammed into the side of the marines jaw. Before he could react, Cortez then grabbed him from behind and held his hand
over his mouth, "Calm Down", he whispered. After several long tense seconds he finally relaxed and Richard let him go and handed him back his rifle.

Pakossi, ever polite, stood from his seat as Rangi and Trent
left Shanes office. He watched them leave his outer office
wondering silently and without sign of doing so, at their
serious expressions.

Once outside, they began to walk along the corridor side by
side. Rangi glanced at her companion and asked:

"That's it then. What do you propose to do?"

Trent stopped for a moment to consider the question.

"I don't know," Trent said honestly before turning to face
Rangi. "In your professional opinion with everything that
you know so far, how serious do you think this could get?"

"Bad." she answered simply. " At this moment, we have not
even a glimmer of a solution."

"What is the worse case scenerio?" Trent asked.

She looked past him along the length of the corridor then
remet his eyes as she answered.

"That the whole base is infected...every deck and
department over run."

It was a chilling thought but was a possibility that was
fast turning into a probablilty.

"This is why being a security officer is much easier than
being in a position of command," he muttered to himself,
not even realizing he was speaking outloud.

He noticed Rangi staring at him.

"I have no problem in firing on an unruly mob if it becomes
necessary. Actually, I do, but that's neither here to there.
I'm hoping we can avoid that."

Rangi nodded. It did not sit any more easily with her than
with Trent and she knew too that Shane had not given the
order lightly.

If infected persons could not be contained by other means,
then they were to fired upon as a last resort.
This encompassed everyone from the most senior officer to
the youngest civilian.

"I'm still hoping that you can find some sort of cure to this
before it gets to that point," Trent said. "Or is that wishful
thinking on my part?"

"Its just time." Rangi replied. "...and i can't help but think
we're running out of it."

"Yeah, we always seem to run out of time, don't we?" Trent
said more as a thought spoken out loud than anything else.
"Keep working on it. And if you need anything, let me know."

[USS Chimera] SD241001.24 | JL - aCOps, Boatswain | LtCmdr Vaughn, 2Lt Melonni | "Quarantine"

= Bridge, USS Chimera =

"Your sure that's what the message said?" Livia (NPC) asked looking at the Private who brought it to her.

"Yes ma'am Major Cortez said that SB UNITY and the Chimera plus Aeran III are quarantined." The Private said looking nervous.

"Okay thank you Private go back to your position." Livia said walking over to the Ops control and tapping her badge, "Melonni to Cmdr Vaughn." She said knowing that she needed more experience then she had on the bridge.

"What is it Lt?" Ian (NPC) said looking up from what he was doing with only a skeleton crew aboard the Chimera this gave Ian time to go over a lot of the paper work that needed to be done and he knew Jade hated doing it so he decided to get it done.

"Sir the station, planet and Chimera have all been quarantined." She said transferring the message down to Ops."Right now you and Major Cortez are the highest ranking officers." She added looking around the bridge there was just her someone at Tactical and Science.

"What do you mean quarantined?" Ian asked knowing what it meant but not understanding why.

"I guess there's been a outbreak and they want to contain it as much as possible." Livia said accessing the stations logs trying to figure out what's going on.

"Alright I'll be at the bridge in 2." Ian said dropping what he was doing and heading out of the ODCC and to the nearest turbolift he also knew that he would need to get in touch with the Major.

Livia continued skimming the logs trying to figure out what was going on and to also see what she could to do help but her area of expertise was training and dealing damage control and neither of those things seemed like they would help at the moment.

"Go find some tools, why don't you", Lieutenant Castillo said to
himself as he trudged through the snow. "This is Nuts", he he
continued to grumble, moving towards what looked like a temporary
command post being set up. As he approached he noticed several armed
men standing in front of a trailer. 'Must be somebody important in
there', he thought to himself and moved past them towards another
grouping of tents containing injured people. He stepped inside the
first tent where three people were laying on cots. Noticing a black
bad under the first bed Castillo kneeled down, pulled it out and
opened it up. Inside he found a tricorder and a knife. "Sorry mate",
he said looking up at the unconscious man whom he was stealing from.
Taking the two items he then pushed the bag back and stepped to the
next bed.

"Well whats this", Charly said to himself as he saw a security
pass-card still clipped to the patients chest. "You wont be needing
this for a while", he muttered under his breath and stashed the card
in his pocket. Moving to the final patient he found no tools but
noticed a flask held tightly in his hand. Sliding the container out
of the man's grip he unscrewed the lid and sniffed inside. "Oooh",
Charly chuckled as the alcohol fumes hit his nostrils. "I think I'm
gonna need this more than you now", he said taking a swig and standing
up.

Turning around he stepped to the tent entrance flipped the flap back
and was just about to step out when he noticed a small tool box
containing an assortment of different items sitting on the ground next
to the entrance. Charly quickly grabbed it by the handle quickly
stepped outside.

Content that he had scrounged enough equipment so that Captain Reese
wouldn't threaten his life again, the Lieutenant then made his way
back towards the triage center that they had set up.
