[USS Chimera] SD240910.24 Duty Log - MCapt COps Jade Reese - "Advance Operations Course 201" Part I

=/\= Training Simulator, SB UNITY =/\=

Jade was in the room behind the simulator where she could monitor what was going on durning the simulation there was a door that led from the monitoring room to the simulation room which would give Jade easy access to the room. Then the simulation room had a door leading back to the class room where the rest of the students would watch the simulation on a screen in the class room.

After Jade was happy with how everything was set-up she headed out of the monitoring room and into the simulation room and finally into where the classroom where the officers were already filing in. Seeing Ens DeChant, "Ensign I want you to be in the class room while I'm in the observation lounge durning the simulations." Jade said, " and I want you to ask the class questions while the simulation is running." She added.

"Yes ma'am." Louis (NPC) said seeing that it was beneficial seeing, talking about what you saw and what you might to and then actually doing it. Something that the academy does but sometimes not well. He was glad that he was assigned to be her aide seeing that this'll help him learn how to teach seeing that's his main goal is to become an instructor. "How long will you've them be in the simulator." Louis asked.

"45 minuets." Jade said wanting to get at least 2 to 3 groups through the simulation in one class period, "but the simulation well end if the ship is destroyed or if too many systems shut down." Jade added rubbing her forehead feeling a tinge of a headache coming on.

"Are you okay?" Louis asked noticing her rubbing her head and hoping that this wasn't too much to soon.

"I'm fine." Jade said dropping her head once she greeted the class and started the simulator she would take a few minuets to meditate and just get her mental defenses back up. She then looked up and notice that the class was all there and ready to begin. Jade walked over to the podium, "greetings officers and welcome to Advance Operations Course 201." She said stopping and hitting a button that brought up a list of things they were going to learn how to do better.

"All of these things you learned how to do in the Academy but they didn't teach you how to do it when you've two Romulan ships bearing down on you. Or having you transfer power while you're doing 20 other things at the same time." Jade said looking at each and every one of the officers. "RAdm Guzman wants me to get each and everyone of you ready to man the operations post on a ship in the TF and then not piss or sh** your pants when things get a little hairy." Jade said.

Captain's Log: Captain Cropa Arnold Rojac, Commanding Officer, USS Chimera NCC 96899-C

[Begin Log]

Capain's Log, Stardate two-four-zero-nine-one-zero point three-zero.

Cropa Rojac, Commanding Officer.

I am relieved to report that Bravo Group's mission in the Stellar Nursery of Quorum Space was a success. Though that success has been one at a great cost. The USS Eagle has gone down with all hands attending during the course of the mission; subject to the wiles of a Romulan thalaron cruiser. In an effort to preserve the ship's integrity and technology, I activated it's self destruct protocols and prevented it from falling into enemy hands.

Commander Typhon and the rest of the Eagle crew made the ultimate sacrifice for the protection of the Federation and her allies. Despite the full knowledge that this mission could be their last, they headed into battle. They faced their death with their heads held high. I recommend they be bestowed the highest of honors for their services to the fleet and the Federation.

Their sacrifices were not made in vain. The Romulan installation in the sector was destroyed, and their presence in the region will surely decrease. Though troubling discoveries were made. Intelligence leading up to the mission suggested the presence of a Romulan supply base being housed in the Nursery, however we found something much more sinister: a dimensional gate.

The Romulans, with the help of Muhareem technology, have been using transdimensional devices to create gate to alternate universes and have been recruiting counterpart to aide them in the war here in our dimension. So Major Shao's data from the station has told us. This alternate dimension has the advantage of being two decades ahead of us, which explains the recent surge in Romulan offensive technology. The data collected contains many communications logs and transit information over two years. It will take much time to sort through. I will submit the files to Starfleet Intelligence once we arrive at UNITY.

Much of the data has been confirmed by a second source to come through the gate, a Colonel Nikolai Ivanov. He and his gargantuan Erassian ship, the EAS Samson, saved the Chimera on their arrival through the gate and were an integral part int he completion of Bravo's operation.

Ivanov says that the Romulans, Breen and Muhareem are coming to this dimension fleeing from a Borg invasion in their dimension. He also expresses concern that we are on the same path and will be fighting this battle in our own future as well. His revelations do rise concern; however I feel more investigation is needed before we invest too much. We need to win our first war before we invest in a second.

We have been able to detect very little from the Samson, her sensor masking technology is more efficient than any I've encountered before. She is four miles long and i outfitted with several dozen batteries of arclight plasma cannons, and a very large main particle cannon based on the same "Sharkapult" technology encountered by my crew on the Honohran vessel some time ago. The Samson's offensive capabilities are very impressive, and have the potential to advance Erassian technology by two to three decades. No doubt, her arrival could represent a significant turning point in the tide of this war - which would be most welcome following the recent reports out of Padassa.

The Chimera herself is in need of many repairs. During the battle, her port impulse engine was completely destroyed by Romulan munitions. Lieutenant Kroitzer says that the installation of a new engine will take two to three weeks once we arrive at UNITY. I hope the shipyard staff will be able to assist us in the repairs upon our arrival.

My chief of Security, Major Richard Cortez, was critically wounded during his mission aboard the Romulan station. Dr. Fisher has been able to keep him alive in our own sickbay, but says that the hospital on UNITY would be more suitable to attend to his medical needs. He is arranging for an immediate transfer of his care to Dr. Summers upon our arrival. I hope that the Commander will be able to get Cortez back into shape. In my experience, he is a very capable marine and officer, it would be tragic to loose him.

Two of his unit were killed on the Romulan station while they planted explosives. Their families will be notified, and I have given them Silver Stars for their acts of bravery in the performance of their duties.

At this time, the Chimera has exited the Stellar Nursery and is proceeding at warp eight back to UNITY. The USS Rapier and the Klingon Patrol are conducting further investigations into the ruins present in the Nursery Pocket. Before we left, the Science Department beamed aboard several components of one the damaged Thalaron Cruisers to conduct analyses. We have acquired a disruptor bank, a torpedo with a cloaking device and a portion of the vessels computer core.

The Helm estimates the time of arrival to be within 48 hours, which gives the crew time to wind down after this harrowing experience. I have requested from Admiral Guzman a two week a R&R in order for us to repair and recuperate. Hopefully, he will grant us that request. I also think that after these discoveries, Starfleet will need to evaluate our long-term war strategies. I imagine, we will be summoned by the high bras to present our findings.

I am concerned about our future. War has a habit of making such things bleak. Hopefully, the Samson's arrival can turn the tide of this war, and make the Federation, the Erassians, and our allies more capable of facing our future challenges.

Computer, end log.

[USS Chimera] SD 240910.30 || BRAVO || Bridge JL || "Closing the door" ||

[Bridge - Deck One - USS Chimera NCC96899-C]

Walters entered the Bridge from the corridor.  "Leftenant Vaughn scan through all frequencies till you find a match with that of the detonator that the Security team set up.  Commander Levison load all torpedo tubes with Quantum Torpedoes just in case the explosives don't do the trick."

"It's going to take me a few minuets to get a signal match but even then no guarantees." Ian said moving his fingers as fast as they could move running through tons of frequencies trying to find the right one. The issue he was having that there was too many and it would take to long to write a program to find the right one.

The doors to the bridge hissed to the side and a very hurried looking Cropa Rojac strode up to the center seat. "Belay that order, Lieutenant Vaughn. Time is no longer on our side." He threw a finger to Commander Levison at tactical. "Commander, target all essential systems on that gate with our best stock, on the double."

"With pleasure, Captain," Levison nodded, his hands a flurry of motion, locking those weapons systems still available to him onto the enemy gate. He lined up volleys of phaser fire and salvos of torpedoes aimed at the most vital points on the dimensional gate in preparation for its destruction, patching in a feed from his console to Kilbain in the Tactical Centre to ensure his targeting formulae were correct.

"Mind if I ask why the timetable was moved up Captain?"  Walters asked although he had a fair suspicion why.  If the EAS Samson was 30 years in advance of current technology their sensors would be hellishly accurate...unless they had simply taken the precaution of dropping a probe behind them on their way through the gate.

"Something's coming through." Rojac replied, taking his seat and gripping the armrests. "And we need to close that door."

[Bridge - Central Core - EAS Samson]

The Erassian transporters had dropped them just down the hallway from where the Bridge was situated.  Nikolai led the way to the bridge.  He spoke without turning.  "So why did you volunteer to come along Major Xerxes?"

Anya replied immediately but in a relatively quiet voice "I've seen visions of the enemy time and again.  I think it's finally time I look death in the face...I want to see what the Karaf look like in the flesh."

"I said it was a Romulan Heavy War Cruiser coming through the gate." Nikolai said in return.

Anya allowed herself a smile.  "Your words said it was a Romulan Heavy War Cruiser.  Your eyes said otherwise.  I saw fear there and not just the type that prompts a shiver up your spine but real genuine fear." They entered the door to the Bridge and Anya announced loudly.  "Bring the Karaf ship up on screen, I want to see what we're up against."

The crew looked shocked at the sight of her but they responded "Yes, Colonel Xerxes!" and put the ship on screen.

Nikolai scowled slightly at his crew's obedience to her but he couldn't blame them.  Here was a genuine legend of the Alliance alive in the flesh after her death three years ago looking younger and fitter than he had ever seen her but still every bit the hardened war veteran and high level strategist.  Nikolai had to admit it was a bit like being a child again in her presence.  In a nostalgic thought he remembered having a crush on Anya in his youth.  Still business came first.  "Major Holtzman, bring Omega Reactor to full and deploy the main gun.  Let's give this Karaf bastard a reason to flinch."

"Aye Colonel" was the swift response from his XO.  In response the power levels were brought up exponentially and the forward half of the EAS Samson began to split apart.

[Bridge - Deck One - USS Chimera NCC96899-C]

From the Science station Mercedes called "Captain, picking up excessive omega radiation spike coming from the Samson.  Energy appears to be building up towards the forward part of the Samson."

"An Omega Reactor.  Bloody hell I never thought they would finish it. Thats one hell of a power source, even for a Fury Cannon of that size."  Walters said as the Samson's forward half locked into place and brilliant trails of  lightning like energy trailed between the four outer arms and the central spire glowing brighter and brighter.

Rojac watched as the gargantuan ship poured its arsenal of lethal energy in to the opening orifice in the center of the gate. The energy readings spiked on his readouts beyond the sensor instruments capacity so extreme was the massive pulse from Ivanov's vessel. Much more than needed to destroy one Romulan War Cruiser, he thought. One shot from that could likely erase an entire planet, it was hard to imagine nything being capable of surviving such brute force. Had the borg really evolved that much?

"Weapons locked, sir," Levison reported at last, the final corrections and adjustments made by his Tactical staff. He was still marginally stunned by the sheer firepower of the Samson, but was glad of its presence; Chimera did not have nearly enough punch on her own, particularly after the combat she'd been in.

"Fire!" Rojac ordered.

Levison fingered the firing toggle and a frenzied assault of energy and fire burst from the Chimera's every remaining weapons bank. Torpedoes flew from the ship's launchers, angry red and bright blue-white whilst the carving lashes of directed energy beams joined them in their quest to annihilate the structure before the starship.

"Captain!" Montesque, the French communications officer called. "I'm picking up the Rapier, she has arrived with Klingon reinforcements!"

"Well don't just stand there!" Rojac shouted over the commotion. His eyes flashed in agitation. "Tell Natalia to get her phasers on that damn gate, Lieutenant!"

"Aye sir!"

Ian was just keeping an eye on everything and was in awe of the power output of the EAS Samson thinking to himself what he could do with that amount of power. Looking around the bridge he hoped no one notice him drooling at the readings he was receiving.

The USS Rapier and her Klingon patrol contingent moved in on a circular pattern around the gate - phaser disruptors and torpedoes blaring from their launch points. Stress fractures appeared on the ring emitting the dimensional gate. Electricity sparked and fizzled into open space as large chunks floated away, severed from the station.

"The gate's structural integrity is at critical failure." Carpenter reported from science. "The gate is failing!"

"Dior," Rojac ordered, "Take us out of the blast radius."

"Aye sir!" She replied.

Chimera swiveled on it's axis, taking a course behind the Samson as the Romulan Gate crumbled beneath its own mass. The dimensional gate fizzled, sparked, an eventually disappeared as the upper arch collapsed and floated off into empty space. Stray figures could be seen floating amongst the debris.

Rojac took a deep breath as he surveyed the scene on the viewscreen before him. The mission was finally accomplished. The Romulan Gate was destroyed, though at a great cost. The USS Eagle had gone down with all hands, two of his marines were dead and his port impulse engine was destroyed. He had nearly lost his ship, and he would have had it not been for the arrival of Colonel Nikolai Ivanov and the EAS Samson. That arrival presented its own challenges as well. With the amount of technology and firepower on that ship, tensions between the Erassian and the Federation could increase. The technology possessed on the Samson would erase the 20 year gap between the two empires that the Federation had advantaged from for nearly a century.

"Major," Rojac said quietly, "stand down Red Alert. Dismiss Alpha and Beta shifts. Call delta and gamma to duty stations to begin salvage operations. We're done here."

[USS Chimera] SD 240910.29 || Ship Log: USS Magellan || "Fall of Padassa" ||

[Bridge – Deck One – USS Magellan]

"More lifesigns have been located on deck 116!" The science officer called from the starboard station.

Commander Gates McFadden, the executive officer, immediately responded. "Ops, I need a lock. Have them transported to Cargo Bay 6. Security, I need a team to receive them, stat. Bring a med kit."

"Aye, Commander." Came the in unison response from the addressed officers before they commence in their duties.

"Where are those warbirds?" Captain Mayo asked aloud from the center chair.

The tactical officer replied from the starboard console. "Bearing two-seven-zero mark three-one-nine. Distance at 508 kilometers." The V officer responded. "They are being pursued by the IKS Glokar and Sherka. One target's shields are down to 45%, but the other two are making attack runs on the klingon formation."

"We have multiple Romulan contacts dropping out of warp beyond the gravity well." The science officer reported. "They've plotted an intercept course at full impulse. Contact in one minute and fourteen seconds."

"Do we have numbers?" McFadden asked.

"Five." The science officer reported. "Database checks confirm two d'deridex, two scout class, and one" she paused "thalaron cruiser."

Mayo grimaced. The situation did not look good. Soon Padassa would be a floating clump of space debris, and the incoming Romulans would make the Klingon/Federation flotilla a nice accent piece to accompany it.

"Time to Padassa' destruction?" Mayo asked.

"Estimated at two minutes, Captain!" Ops reported.

McFadden tossed a concerned glance at Mayo's face. She knew what he was thinking, what he needed to do, but she didn't want to believe it. She didn't want to leave those people behind.

"Plot an escape course, maximum warp."

"Aye sir." Helm responded.

"Captain," McFadden protested. "Charlie company is still sweeping the slum decks. We can't get a transporter lock on them."

Mayo pointed to mission ops, "Tell them to book it to a transporter zone. We depart in thirty seconds." He looked back to McFadden, "Good of the many, Commander."

She nodded, but she didn't like it.

"Course plotted, Captain."

"The Quasar is signaling ready for departure." Tactical called from Mayo's right.

"Tell them Godspeed, Lieutenant" Mayo responded, "we will be right behind them."

"Ten seconds." McFadden reported. "Do we have a lock on Charlie co?"

"Negative, Commander." Ops responded. "They're still too deep." The bajoran paused, "Wait, I think I'm getting them..."

"The anti-matter reactor is failing!" Science called out. "It's at critical mass."

A large explosion rippled through the station, severing the lower half of the completely from the upper decks and promenade. The shockwave overrode the Magellan's inertial dampeners, and debris pelted the deflector shield arrays.

"Report!" Mayo called as the lights flickered.

"Shields down 25%." The Vulcan tactical officer replied.

"Structural damage on decks 5, 6, and 11." McFadden replied. "We have an overloaded shield emitter in section five-zero-nine. Dispatching damage control teams." She looked up from her read-outs. "Charlie team is lost."

"Helm." Mayo called, a stoic stone face looked straight at the viewscreen. "Previous course, maximum warp."

"Aye sir."

"Engage."

Padassa was lost.

Major Cortez, Chief of Security, former ODA Unit Commander was laying
neatly on a bunk in sickbay when he jolted awake from the medicated
sleep he was put under. The first thing he noticed were several
different wires running from his body, mainly his chest which was
bandaged tightly. He took a deep breath, sat up and looked around.

"DOCTOR", he started to scream but the pain emanating from his chest
shot to his brain and forced him to fall back onto the bed. He
immediately sat buck up and twisted his body so that his feet could
touch the ground.

"Major!...what are you doing?" A nurse had rushed to his side telling
him to lay back and would have explained the reasons why had he given
her a chance. Scott, in the next bay, heard the commotion and,
hurrying to find the cause, was astounded to see Cortez struggling
with the young woman who was actually doing well in her efforts to
keep him where he was.

"Major.." he said " just calm down..lay back on the bed, you're in no
fit state to move."

Cortez was confused, last he remembered was thinking he was going to
die, being rescued, then wishing he had died when he realized he had
failed at his mission. As Fisher approached the Major pushed the
nurse out of the way and stood on his feet. He ripped the wires that
were connected to him off and took a step forward wincing at the pain,
"The Captain needs me", he said stopping to catch his breath.

Multiple alarms began to sound as soon as the wires disconnected and
the patient left the biobed. The nurse, grabbed hold of Cortez' arm
expecting, as Scott did too, that he would collapse at any moment.

"The captain can wait." Scott replied grasping the Majors arm. "Sit
down before you cause yourself more problems."

Feeling arms grab him Cortez swung a reactionary fist and immediately
connected with Fishers face. "GET OFF ME", he again attempted to
scream, except this time instead of falling back into a bed he fell
forward onto the cold hard floor. He grunted as the floor met his
body with a thud. Somehow still conscious he began crawling towards
the door.

"SECURITY!!" the nurse yelled, narrowly missing being dragged to the
floor too. She looked from Cortez to Scott, both now on the floor and
chose, against all her training, to move to Scott. " Are you OK?" she
asked urgently, kneeling beside him. Scott shook his head to clear the
bright lights that seemed to fill his vision. " Fine." he replied
gently exploring his jaw with his fingers. He scrambled to his feet.
"Help me get him onto the bed." he said, looking down at
Cortez.Natalie did as he asked and between them they managed to get
their patient back onto the biobed.

The Major out of energy was in no shape to resist and soon found
himself back in the bed that he had just stumbled out of. Gazing over
at Fisher he realized what he had done. "I'm sorry" he managed to say
before his eyes began to feel too heavy too hold up and he once again
drifted off into a dreamless sleep.

The wires were reconnected although more damage had been done when
they had been ripped out. "Its fine." Scott replied, paying little
attention to Cortez but concentrating more on the results that the
sensors were showing. "Is he alright?" Natalie asked quietly although
it was plain to see that he was not. She turned her head at two
security guards ran towards them.

"No." Scott replied. " He'll be lucky to make it as far as Unity."

[USS Chimera] SD: 240910.28 || BRAVO || Conference Log || Part II ||

Darrell Smith <erassianalliance@googlemail.com> wrote to chimera@ucip.org:

[Conference Room - Deck One - USS Chimera NCC 96899-C]

"Borg." Rojac steepled his fingers and rested them on his bearded
chin. His gaze was locked on the Erassian Colonel to his right. "Well,
they are certainly a force to be reckoned with; but you said they're
only one of the enemies that you face now." He leaned back in his
chair and crossed his arms, "Can you tell me, or does that violate
some kind of temporal law, Colonel Ivanov?"

"Only a bureaucracy like Starfleet creates things like Temporal
Directives. The Erassian Alliance does not now or in thirty years
indulge in creating red tape for itself. Besides you are looking for
a name which will mean nothing to you yet so me telling you such names
will be of no benefit to yourself. That those enemies were cause to
build a Tyrant Class Warship like the Samson should be warning
enough." Nikolai replied.

Anya decided to enter the conversation properly. "We are getting away
from more immediate concerns. What is the likelihood of the Romulans
and Muhareem sending more reinforcements through the gate? Do they
have anything nastier than the Thelaron Cruiser you took out upon
arrival? And finally what are the chances of us receiving more
reinforcement ships from Starfleet or the Alliance in the other
dimension?"

Nikolai turned to her and fixed her with a piercing gaze.
"Romulan/Muhareem reinforcements are highly likely. There will likely
be an evacuation convoy attempting passage through the gate shortly
and they'll be escorted by the bigger and nastier war cruisers. As
for friendly reinforcements you can forget about those. The
Federation is gone, what little remains of Starfleet has retreated to
the Delta Quadrant where the Borg are picking them off. The Alliance
has fallen, Erass herself has been burned to ashes and the remaining
two Tyrant Class Warships EAS Market Garden and EAS Overlord have both
gone silent so we can likely assume they are dead also. No help will
be forthcoming so we need to destroy that gate as soon as possible."

"Agreed." Rojac replied. "We will do so soon enough. When will you be
returning, Colonel?"

Nikolai was equally amused and appalled at the idea. "Returning? You
expect me and my people to go back to that slaughterhouse? No
Captain, I will lend my services to the Alliance in this realm. They
may not welcome us with welcome arms but they wont kill us out right."

"Starfleet could pay you quite well" Anya put forward.

"My loyalty is not for sale Major." Nikolai replied.

"Good Colonel. At least you have your priorities in order." Anya replied

Walters interrupted a question of his own. "Can you at least tell us
when the world starts to fall apart? When it all starts to go wrong?"
If he at least had a timescale he could work to that was something.

"Major Walters by this date the world has already started to go
rotten." Nikolai responded.

"Is it as bad as I've imagined?" Walters asked suggesting upon his
tactical papers he had published for the Defense Committee and his own
Research & Development superiors.

"Worse by far Major. You are dealing with an enemy far more capable
and far more prepared then you ever expected." Nikolai replied.

Rojac uncrossed his arms and stood from his reclined position. "Well,
sitting around isn't going to help out our gloomy situation. Walters,
get to the bridge and have Operations access the detonation frequency
for Major Cortez's detonator - if they haven't been disarmed by now.
As a back-up, have Commander Levison load out the torpedo tubes with
our best stock."

"Yes Captain, may as well get our kicks while we can." Walters said.
He rose and nodded at Colonel Ivanov. "If you'll excuse me Colonel."

Rojac held out a hand to the Colonel. "Thank you again, Colonel
Ivanov. You are welcome to enjoy the fireworks on the Bridge if you
wish."

"Tha.." Nikolai stood to take the proffered hand when he was
interrupted by a beep. He raised his hand to his right ear and drew a
line in the air towards his mouth activating a sub-dermal comm device.
What followed was what looked like a one sided conversation.
"Ivanov, go"

"How many?"

"Just the one. What Class?"

"Sheiss that was far too quick. At least we've got range on them.
Okay ready the main cannon, I'll beam over in a moment."

Nikolai turned back to Captain Rojac. "There's a Romulan Heavy War
Cruiser coming through the gate. We'll lay in some long range fire on
them to slow their advance. I need you to finish the job of
destroying that gate Captain."

Anya stood "I'm coming over to your ship with you Colonel. I want to
see what the Romulans are sending against us. There may be the chance
there have already been others come through the gate." Nikolai nodded
and moved his hand and in a green flash with a sound like a mini
thunderclap left Rojac alone in the Conference Room.

[USS Chimera] SD240910.28 ||PROJECT LOS ALAMOS|| Duty Log, Cdr Rick Rodgers and Trevor Wright

=Janus Research Station=
=Janus VI=

The miners on Janus VI had grown accustom to seeing people coming and going from the local science facility that they took no notice when a new group arrived with a small security escort. When Rick arrived with Trevor Wright, it was business as usual.

Wright had gathered a small team for what starfleet was calling Project Los Alamos. Only three scientists and two engineers, other than Rick and Wright, made up the team. In fact, there was more security personnel than people actually working on the weapon.

Before he left Unity and right after he had spoken to Wright, Rick informed his brother that he was being temporary transferred. To say that Trent was not pleased would be considered an understatement. When Trent inquired why, Rick said it was classified.

Trent had gone to Shane to ask why their CEO was being taken away at such short notice. Less than an hour later, Trent was told to let it go, not by Shane, but by Admiral Janeway. So, the argument that Trent had prepared was torpedoed right away. Of course it didn't make the XO any happier.

Like Trent, MaiKai was also upset that Rick was being sent away on such short notice. She could give birth in the next month or so and Rick might not be there. He wanted to tell Wright to go to hell, but Rick knew it would do no good. He was a part of this project whether he liked it or not.

So, now, he found himself almost on the other side of Federation space from Unity where he would work on this contraption that he despised with all of his being. Just the idea that he was working on the TechEx made him ill to his stomach.

Rick decided to introduce himself to the rest of the team, which had already been hard at work for the past month or so.

The first two people he met were Doctors Lana Jalawaski and Tomma Richter. They were experts in the field of tachyon particles. Rick had learned that the two had worked together for quite sometime on various projects. After talking with them for a few minutes, Rick realized that they had no idea what they were actually working on. Rick just passed it off as Trevor not getting around to telling them.

The next person Rick met was a vulcan scientist by the name of Valvok, who's field of choice was energy dissipation. Like with Jalawaski and Richter, Valvok had no clue what he was actually working on.

The same held true with Lieutenant Kokamoto and Harv Luck, two engineers who were working on the delivery device.

After speaking with the engineers for about a half an hour, Rick marched into Wright's office.

"They don't know, do they?" Rick asked, not even bothering to knock on the door.

"No,. They don't," Wright said as he was standing behind his desk, going over some paperwork.

"Why not?"

Wright finally looked at Rick, "Would you want to know if you already didn't?"

"That's not the point."

"Yes it is. That's exactly the point. They're working on a device that could result in the deaths of hundreds of millions ... likely more. Their minds right now, including Doctor Valvok's, needs to be on their respective tasks. We don't have time for any of them to deal with their consciences."

"So, you and I are the only ones around here who know?"

Wright nodded.

"They're going to know, eventually," Rick said. "Like when news breaks of the device being used against the Romulans."

"Maybe. Maybe not. There's a chance the TechEx will not be used. If that's the case, then they will have no idea. They may even be able to sleep better at nights."

"You really believe there's a chance this damn thing will not be used."

Wright shrugged, "One could only hope. But until then, it's best they know only what they need to know."

Rick rubbed his eyes and shook his head at the same time.

"If you want to tell them, then go ahead. I won't stop you," Wright said.

Rick stared at Wright for a good thirty seconds.

"No," Rick finally said. "Let them have a peace of mind for now."

Rick left Wright's office questioning a great many things, including serving in a starfleet that would promote the use of such a device. It made him feel uneasy in his own uniform, one that he at one time was proud to wear.

Rick and Trent Rodgers discussed the threat to Trents life but he insisted he could take care of himself. He excused himself when informed that a package he had been expecting had finally arrived.

The 'package' turned out to be Chloe Uttleys family, who had a brief but poignant moment together with her.A security officer asked Trent why he had rescued them and Trent replied that something good had to come out of the war and that it was also repaying a debt to a friend whom he had been unable to help in the past.

Rangis plans for an early end to her day came to a juddering halt when she read a report  informing her that three crewmen onboard two ships were displaying the same symptoms as the hostages recued from the Breen freighter. All three had worked at the medical research unit.Rangi contacted Shane to tell him of the potential problem.

==============================================
-------------------------
- Subject Lines
-------------------------
Please remember to use the following format for your subject lines:
SD 24YYMM.DD, Duty/Personal Log, Rank Name
e.g., SD 240502.01, CO's Log, Capt Rojac
e.g., SD 240502.01, Personal Log, Cropa Rojac
The [USS Chimera] part of the subject is placed automatically by the listserv, so you don't need to include it.
Also remember to include your details at the end of your log
e.g.,
Captain Cropa Rojac
Commanding Officer
USS Chimera NX 96899-B
-------------------------
- Logging Guidelines
-------------------------
Logging:
The weekly logging deadline is at Midnight (12:00AM/00:00) GMT/UTC (19:00 EST); all logs received after the deadline will be counted for the following week. If you are pressed for time and would like a log to count for the previous week, but it is sent after the deadline, please send an email to the command team when you send the log so that we can make the corrections.
Please remember that all MAJOR plot changes need to be cleared with the command staff before a log goes through! You can do this by sending the command staff (
chimera-command@ucip.org ) a log labeled with "Draft" tagged to the subject line. We'll typically let you know if it's approved within 24 to 48 hours, or tell you what might need to be modified before it's sent to the listserv.
When using other characters in your logs, please keep in mind that person's characteristics. Character information can be found on the UCIP website or the USS Chimera website (under CREW - just click on the Star Trek symbol next to the character's name). If you're still unsure how to interact with a character, then privately mail the person
involved, and I'm sure they'll be willing to help.
Conversely, if you feel that your character is being portrayed incorrectly by someone please contact them to try to work out an agreeable solution. Just keep in mind when logging to treat other characters the way you'd like them to treat you - with the respect due to any member of Starfleet who is a specialist in their field.
If you think your log may be going out of bounds, then please ask! If you are having problems finding things to write about or would just like some help with your log, please contact your department head or the command team. Remember, you don't always have to log about things relating to the main plot - logs that develop your character's
personality are encouraged! We're eager to help if you're having trouble; just email the command team (
chimera-command@ucip.org).

[USS Chimera] ||UNITY|| SD 240910.26 Joint Duty Log, Cmdr. Rangi Summers & RAdm. Shane Guzman

"shane.guzman@mojwap.sk" <shane.guzman@mojwap.sk> wrote to chimera@ucip.org:

======= Shane's office, SB 234: UNITY
====

Engaged in the endless paperwork surrounding the position of
task force commander, Shane found it impossible to fight the
huge workload. All he could do was to retaliate the best he
could and hope not to get buried under all the PADDs,
requests and orders coming his way.

It was the usual 'read-a-PADD' followed with
'curse-the-sender' and then 'contact-the-sender' coming
along with
'thinking-how-the-hell-am-I-supposed-to-solve-this' when
Pakosii contacted him over internal comm., suggesting that
an important matter was on the other line. Shane knew his
aide and trusted into his abilities to filter most of the
less important business so he better accepted the
communication.

It was Rangi who appeared on the other end of the screen.
"Shane?" Rangi said calmly. "We have a potential problem."

Shane raised an eyebrow. It was not usual for Rangi to state
something like that without immediate explanation. "What
happened?" he asked.

"You remember the six rescued hostages from the Breen
freighter?" she asked, knowing that he was unlikely to
forget.

Shane nodded and Rangi continued.

"They had a little girl with them too and they were all sent
to the Medical research unit on Aphos?" She filled in the
details giving him time to recall it all.

"Yes, I remember them" he answered wondering why Rangi was
mentioning them now.

"Two of them died en route and the others didn't survive
long. Well, I've just been told that three crewmen are
exhibiting the same symptoms but the strange thing is that
all three worked in the unit."

Shane frowned: "That does not sound good to me. Where are
those crew members now?" he asked.

"Two took posts on the USS Scavenger...CMO and CScO...the
third one is on a different ship..the Wayfarer." she
replied. "I've asked ops to find the exact date they boarded
the ships and whether or not they've been in contact with
anyone else. There's no mention of anyone on Aphos having
problems but it's too much of a coincidence that three
persons should have the same thing."

Shane nodded: "I agree. That doesn't looks like
coincidence. What do you suggest?" he asked.

"Quarantine." she replied immediately. "The three are
isolated in sickbays but I'd advise both ships be put under
quarantine."

"Hmmm" Shane said, "that's really a radical way to go. To
be honest I am not fond about putting two ships out of duty
and quarantine them."

He was looking at her steadily from the screen and she had
adopted the same pose as he with arms resting on the desk
and fingers interlinked. Now she gave a slight shrug." I
know." she said "...and I understand it's not ideal but I
'do' think we need to be very careful."

"You still do not have a proof that those three crewmembers
have the same disease as those poor souls from the Breen
freighter, do you?"

"No." she answered quietly and shook her head. "It's just
that there are too many coincidences. I think it's
potentially very serious."

Shane nodded: "I do take the situation as serious, but
unless you have proofs that the disease endangers the crews
of USS Scavenger and USS Wayfarer, I am not willing to put
those ships under quarantine. Bring me the proof, and I do
as you suggest."

"Well that's just it." Rangi replied. "There is no actual
proof as yet but I'd err on the side of caution simply
because the biogenic research is on going."

"As for now, you can advise both command teams on Scavenger
and Wayfarer to minimize contact with the outside world but
let's keep it as advise only for the time being. Do you
agree?"

She had frowned and met his steady gaze with uncertainly.
"Very well." she replied" I'll do as you suggest but it's
with reservation. There's just something......." She left
the rest unsaid because in reality she had nothing more of
hard fact available. The three crewmen had been in contact
with the rescued hostages but had done so under the
strictest precautions. The hostages had died and no others
had become ill. She told herself that perhaps she was over
reacting and that perhaps it was all a coincidence. "Sorry
to have bothered you with it." she said, giving him a small
smile.

Shane smiled back at Rangi and said: "Do not apologize. I
can understand your point of view very well. You would be a
poor medical advisor if you would not care about such
events. It's just that I need more evidence before sending
whole crews into quarantine. Please keep me updated"
