Pakosii's desk. The Commodore had requested a meeting, and
he quickly obliged. Rojac had a lot of respect for his
former Captain, and didn't mind waiting a few moments to see
him. What he did mind was his shoulder. During his sparring
match with Lt Rayna the previous day it appeared he had
sprained his deltoid. His right shoulder was quite sore and
made him wince if he moved it to quickly. He hoped the
Commodore wouldn't notice. He was writing down a note to
make an appointment with Dr. Rice when the Commodore's aide
spoke up from behind the desk.
Busy with million and one thing, Shane just finished a long
talk with the head of Special forces Intelligence (SSFI).
Lernen's death was the main point … or more the
intelligence vacuum left on the UNITY and 1TF after his
death. At last, both man agreed that a small group of SSFI
operatives and analyst would help the situation
considerably. Logistic was still an issue as Shane was not
told when to expect those agents .. but 'soon'.
It was some 10 minutes ago since Pakosii signaled that Rojac
was there to see him and once the communication to SB Bragg
was over, Shane pressed the button saying "I am free".
"Captain Rojac" Pakosii said finally, "the Commodore
is now expecting you. Please proceed".
up before making his way past the guards into the office
beyond them. He smiled and snapped a brief salute as he
entered the room. "Commodore, Captain Rojac reporting."
Shane smiled at his former Chief Tactical Officer. Long time
passed since Cropa was a young Lieutenant behind the
tactical console just waiting for his Captain to give the
order to fire. At some point Cropa left the Chimera to
assume a XO position on an another ship, but eventually
returned back to Chimera as XO and later CO.
"Welcome, Captain" Shane said and offered a seat to
Chimera's CO. "I am glad that my favorite ship is safe
and sound back. Anything to drink?"
Placing the requested drink in front of Rojac, Shane walked
over to his end of the desk and seated himself as well.
"So, tell me please how does the Chimera-C feels like?"
Shane started.
sip. "She's magnificent. Almost reminiscent of the 'A'. She
agile, quick and she packs a mean punch." He smiled. "i
think she'll serve the fleet quite nicely."
one piece far longer then any of Chimera's CO ever
managed. I've heard some rumors from SSF Command that IF
they should give us an ANOTHER Chimera within this decade,
someone's head would be attached to the main deflector"
to let that happen, sir."
at Cropa, "I understand that you've met a strong Romulan
resistance with advanced weapons and tactics and believe
that all our sensor network along the neutral zone is
compromised … "
to discussing business. "Aye, sir. We ran into two warbirds
initially. They were new scout designs with better
acceleration and mobility. They had an interesting hull
plating leading from the engineering hull to the nacelles
that I have a feeling has to do more than aesthetics.
Captain Xerxes' fighters engaged a new fighter class as
well, designed for capital ship destruction. The cruisers we
engaged after the intial wave weren't all that different
than intelligence already suggested, only with a newer class
of disruptors. I understand Commander Terek ahs already
begun studying their effects on Federation hull
compositions."
Shane nodded: "For decades Starfleet command considers the
apparent lack of new ship's design in Romulan Empire.
You've been a tactical officer yourself, so I don't have
to explain you that the ROmulans have just a few ship's
classes and maintain using them for long years, but in the
last 20 years, we've seen a huge improvement here. What
began with the Reman Scimitar design … seems to go on more
rapidly. I wonder if the Romulans have foreign help in their
ship designing centers. But what about the sensor network,
Captain? Is it really compromised?"
"Yes. I do believe they have compromised the sensor
network." Rojac nodded. "And I concur with Captain Xerxes'
assumption that they were waiting to ambush a federation
vessel with their new fighter wings. They weren't prepared
for a new century class and her fighter wing though. I only
think the Hindenburg could have performed better."
"Damn" Shane said, "that means that we have to
relocate all of our listening posts within several sectors.
That's a bad news and I am sure that Starfleet Command
won't like it."
thrusters for redeployment of the grid." Rojac suggested.
not when it's too late. Romulans were always excellent in
ways of deception and intelligence and unfortunately SFI
can't keep the pace with Tal'Shiar."
military budget to the Tal'Shiar, an amount I'm afraid the
Federation will never ideologically suport."
fighters? You say that they helped a lot in the battle?"
have been in quite a dire circumstance without them."
Xerxes' suggestion to emply more fighters within SSF and
Starfleet as a whole …"
majority of starfleets fighter squadrons." Rojac replied.
"Valkyries are no match in a dogfight with a Romulan
Scorpion. The Scorpions have better maneuverability, speed,
and firepower. And the Warhammer assault ships are too bulky
and slow to be effective against some of the new romulan
designs." Rojac crossed his arms in front of his chest. "In
order to compete in that theatre, I believe we need to
update our fighters across the fleet. We need to roll the
Lancers out into mass production to replace the Valkyries
and we need to update the Warhammer design. Otherwise, our
squadrons are going to get massacred in the battlefield."
good for troop transport or attacking capital ship, but sure
not suitable for dog fights. Valkyres really need an
replacement, but the problem is that it would take up to a
few years to replace them all. Maybe we will have to start
in a smaller scale … lets say 1TF and see about the
results. We shall see."
"Certainly with Commander Ohmsford's shipyard project we can begin addressing the situation soon." Rojac said.
"Well, Captain, you did very well on your mission …
again. Your next mission should be of a more enjoyable kind
… two weeks of R&R on the UNITY. Since Admiral LaGrand's
forces eased the pressure on the Task Force, there will be
another 10 ships stationed for R&R here, so there will be
plenty opportunities to learn someone new. Security is
somewhat an issue lately, so please ask your crew to be at
least not absolutely careless while on board the station.
"I will make note of that, sir." Rojac nodded.
"We shall have a few more meetings during your R&R, but
besides them, I'd like your crew and you enjoy the free
time. To be absolutely clear, Captain … that's an
order"
Rojac smirked from behind his beard. "I'll go find a jacuzzi somewhere to read my reports then."
"All right then" Shane said with a laugh, "if there is
nothing else, then I see you on the 1st meeting in 72 hours.
You are dismissed."
