Part 2

[ Rangi came to a halt gauging what to do next. The knife was pressed
very close against the womans skin and it would take only a slight
increase in pressure for it to sink into her throat. "Who are you?"
she asked. " What do you want?" ]

The man answered

"My name is Ryunosuke. I'm a Crown Agent for King Asano."

"For King who?" Rangi, whose heart was still beating fast and sending
adrenaline coursing through her body, couldn't prevent the question
for the whole situation had happened so suddenly that her thoughts
were not as ordered as they might be.

The woman was looking at Rangi sideways on, fear obvious in every muscle.

Rangi glanced from her to Ryunosuke. " Explain this." she demanded.

"King Asano. His orders were to guard Ambassador Alecto. Whilst being
a Hybrid specialised in Piloting I do have my uses on the ground as
well." Ryunosuke said. "This woman, assuming thats what she is, has
violated Erassian Alliance territory and is likely to be involved in
an attempt on Ambassador Alecto's life and by her presence here
probably on Admiral Guzman and yourself.

The woman made a feeble attempt to shake her head, obviously wishing
to deny the charge but the knife, already pressed close to her skin,
dipped a fraction deeper and she screwed up her face expecting no
doubt to feel it slice into her throat.

" Computer...alert security to an incident in these quarters."

[Security alerted] replied the calm voice.

" Where are you from?" Rangi asked, taking a step nearer to the woman.

The woman answered in a wavering voice "Aeran III. A small town called
Birchvale on the southern continent."

"You're lying!" Ryunosuke shouted and in a lightning quick motion
reversed the blade and drove it into the fleshy part of her shoulder
though not near anything vital. The woman screamed and Ryunosuke
roared "Tell the truth!"

"Stop that!" Rangi cried and grabbed Ryunosokes arm. " She will be
interrogated soon enough."

She stared up into his face defying him to resist when the main door,
opened by an emergency code, slid open and a security team rushed in.

Ryunosuke slowly withdrew the blade from the woman's throat, returned
it to the sheath and took a step back.

"My name is Ryunosuke, Bodyguard to Ambasador Ayanami of the Erassian
Alliance. This woman is under arrest for the attemped assassination of
Ambassador Ayanami and Admiral Guzman."

"You're both under arrest." the security chief said as his men,
phasers already levelled at the intruders, took position. " Are you
alright Commander?" he asked turning to Rangi

"Yes...fine." she said.

"As I said my name is Ryunosuke, Bodyguard to Ambasador Ayanami of the
Erassian Alliance. Under my status as a diplomatic bodyguard I have
full diplomatic immunity." Ryunosuke said flatly to the security
officers, staring them down.

"Not in Task Force Quarters you don't." the security guard said
darkly. "You can explain it all in the Brigg."

"If you'ld care to check the station blueprints, you'll see that
several of the Ambassadorial Quarters are within the same High
Security Zone as the Task Force Quarters so I have a legitimate reason
for being here. Amabssador Ayanami's quarters are eight doors down on
this side of the corridor." Ryunosuke continued. "If you want to
arrest me then you have to file a petition with the Erassian Alliance
Embassy. You're getting off track here though, if you check this
woman's posessions you'll find the tools of her trade soon enough."

"I'm sure you can check he's who he says he is without needing to take
him to the brigg." Rangi suggested, not wanting a diplomatic incident
to arise. " Search her." she added pointing to the woman.

Security was well used to dealing with people who resisted and took
only a short time to determine that she was unarmed. "Have you seen
this woman before Commander?" the chief asked. " Yes...once or twice.
She's the housekeeper in this section."

Ryunosuke sighed "Scan the composition of the sheets...there will be
some form of transdermal poison mixed in with it."

"Strange that you would know that!" the guard replied but nodded to
one of his men who took out a tricorder and stepped nearer to the pile
of linen that had fallen in a heap on the floor. Rangi too moved
towards it and watched the scan take place. The results were soon
revealed.

" It's true." Rangi said looking back at Ryunosuke

"This woman just put sheets in Ambassador Ayanami's Quarters."
Ryunosuke replied succinctly

The guard looked from Rangi to Ryunoske. " If you would be kind enough
to accompany us to the security offices Sir, it would be helpful if
you would give us a statement."

"Fair enough." Ryunosuke said. "You were lucky that she slipped up.
Ambassador Ayanami doesn't have fresh linen brought in, I only caught
it with that. You may want your intel department to redo the
background checks on all people with access to any high security areas
on Unity. Perhaps you can suggest that to Major Kinn, Commander?"

" I certainly will. " Rangi replied. She moved nearer to him and held
out her hand. " Thankyou." she said "...not only for myself and
Admiral Guzman but for our little son too."

Ryunosuke turned and said "Our enemys are now using human agents to
attain their goals. The universe has become that little bit more
dangerous." He shook her hand and turned his head to the security
guards "See that your boss takes appropriate measures when he is
recovered from his injuries."

The guards prepared to leave, two leading the woman out, one carrying
the linen carefully sealed again in its protective covering and lastly
the Chief escorting Ryunosoke.

When they had gone, Rangi sat down on the edge of the sofa and
remained there for some minutes.

{We are not safe even in here...our own home} she thought frowning at
her hands clasped in her lap but when she raised her eyes they saw the
open door to Martins room and a wave of horror overtook her.

" Computer...where is Admiral Guzman?"

[The Admiral is returning to his office] came the reply. Rangi stood
up, glanced around the room and headed for the door. She felt sick and
a little afraid.

[USS Chimera] SD 240909.26 | Joint Log | LtCol. Strayer (NPC) & MCapt. Spiers (NPC)

The trip from the Norris System back to Padassa Station felt like it had taken a good bit longer than the trip taken the previous morning. It was also hard to imagine, as he was being carried on a stretcher from the Thumper Transport that the invasion had taken so little time. Though, as the medics carried him through the airlock onto the station he couldn't help but feel relieved to be back. Perhaps now he could get some help from a real sickbay instead of field medics.

Arriving at the airlock, where dozens of corpsmen and doctors were waiting for the arriving wounded, as they usually did when an operational unit returned, Lt Colonel Strayer made his way through the throng of people to make sure he found the man he was looking for. They’d received word that Capt. Spiers had been badly wounded, and it was on Strayer to check on that.

The large gash in his leg caused by a rather large piece of flying duranium was still bleeding, though the medics had gotten it under control and it was wrapped tightly. Spiers was having to push people aside in order to keep an eye on his men, many of whom were getting medical attention. The rest had moved on down the corridor to make room for the medical staff.

“Captain Spiers.” Strayer said, making his way towards the wounded man. “Good to see you in one piece, more or less.”

"For the moment anyways, Colonel," replied Spiers, throwing up something resembling a salute from the stretcher.

“As you were.” Strayer said, and then he turned to one of the medics. “How bad is it?”

Cutting off any response from the enlisted soldier Spiers responded for him, "Not as bad as they'd have me think, sir. I'll be back on my feet in no time."

“You’ll be back on your feet when you’re cleared for duty, Captain.” Strayer said. “Surprisingly enough, a doctor is far more intelligent about such matters than you are, Spiers.”

Ron refrained from mentioning that a medic was hardly a doctor, but instead let the young man answer. "It's mostly a correct assessment, Colonel. The Captain's gonna need some work done to repair the arterial damage, but it shouldn't take too long to get back fixed."

“How long do you reckon on?” Strayer asked.

"A week. Maybe two," replied the medic, motioning to the those carrying the Captain to continue on down the corridor. They'd get him into surgery as soon as they could fit him in.

Strayer walked along with Spiers. “I need your recommendation for an acting company CO.”

"Lieutenant T'Shal," replied the Captain, his hands holding onto the sides of the stretcher as he was carried. "She's up for her silver bar anyways. Was gonna do the paperwork when we got done on Norris."

“I’ll handle it.” Strayer said. “General Sharpe is throwing the entire Second Battalion into something he’s called Operation Valkrye, so I need Easy up and running in about 24 hours.”

Spiers was obviously concerned as he strained his neck to look back at the Colonel, "Easy will do the job, but she's not near at full strength. Not with the injuries and the people we lost."

“We’ve got some replacements in, so we can top up the gaps where we can.” Strayer said. “But Sharpe asked for Easy specifically for this mission.”

"Easy'll get the job done, Colonel," the Captain replied with a firm nod. "It's what they've been trained to do."

“As I should hope, Captain.” Strayer said. “Rest up, and we’ll let you know how we get on.”

Again Spiers threw up a salute, "Sir, yes, sir." Moments later he was through the doors into the medical bay.

[USS Chimera] 240909.26, Federation Council/President Log, Councilman Turan So and President Spock

=President Spock's private office=
=Paris, France, Earth=

The President of the United Federation of Planets had two offices he or she worked out of during their tenure. One was the main office in which the president performed much of his or her work and met with other dignitaries. There was also their private office in which he or she retreated to whenever they wanted ... well ... privacy. It was a place they could work, or do whatever without being disturbed and without having to go to their residence. Very rarely did the president have audience with anyone here.

So, it come to a bit of a surprise that President Spock asked Councilman Turan So to meet him here instead of his main office.

As Turan entered, the room was dark with the exception of candlelight flickering from candles lit around Spock, who was sitting in the floor in the middle of meditation. The Andorian was about to turn and leave.

"Councilman," Spock said, his eyes still closed.

Turan had known Spock for more than 30 years, back when the two men were ambassadors. The Andorian still revered the elder Vulcan. Spock was perhaps the only individual Turan held in such high regard even though they didn't always get along.

"My apologies, Mr. President. Your secretary said it was OK to enter," Turan said.

"It is. Please have a seat," Spock said, nodding to the sofa in front of the president. "Would you like anything to drink, councilman?"

"No, I am fine."

Spock finally opened his eyes as Turan took a seat.

"Do you still mediate?" Spock asked, not bothering to turn on the lights.

"I try, but I find myself unable to relax long enough."

The Vulcan nodded, "I understand. During the past year, I have found meditation somewhat difficult. But, I still endeavor to do so."

"I wish I had your discipline," Turan said.

"And I wish I had your talent in dealing with the council," Spock admitted.

Turan smiled, "Does that include me?"

"Sometimes it does," was Spock's response. "Tell me, councilman, how does the council stand in the current state of the war?"

'Finally, the reason for being here,' Turan thought as he leaned back more comfortably. Turan realized that there was nothing official about this meeting. No records would be kept. This was just two colleagues ... friends talking shop as the humans would say.

"There is still strong support for it, but only because the Romulans' use of Thalaron weapons still has the public furious. I feel that if it were not for that, we'd be suing for peace as we speak."

Spock nodded, understanding that each council member's decisions were made with the interest and will of their constituents in mind. The Romulans had given the Federation citizens a great resolve by using such a weapon instead of spreading fear, which was the enemy's intent. It was now working in the Federation's favor.

"How long do you believe the council will support this conflict?" the president asked.

"I am not for certain," Turan replied. "Many in the council want to punish the Romulans for their actions. For them, a simple peace will not do. They're demanding unconditional surrender."

Spock raised an eyebrow, "Unconditional surrender? We are just starting to force the enemy on the defensive and that is precarious as best. The Romulans could eventually be demanding for our surrender."

"I understand that. That is why there are others that may not be as set in these convictions. They are willing to pursue a peace that may be more agreeable to the Romulans. But they represent a very small minority. There's about 60, maybe 70 members who could go either way. It determines how we do in the upcoming months."

"So, you can not guarantee support for a long, drawn out war," Spock said.

"No, I can not."

Spock nodded, "Councilman, let me give you a hypothetical. What if, in the upcoming months, we have gained a few victories against the Romulans and we are in a position to invade the Romulus system. It may be the only way to assure an unconditional surrender, but the loss of Federation life would be high. How would the council react to that?"

"I'm not certain, Mr. President."

"Hypothetically, Turan."

"Hypothetically? As in the landing of troops on Romulus and having to fight our way to the capital?"

Spock nodded.

"Honestly, I doubt many of my colleagues would be very supportive of such a scenario."

"Could you keep the council in support of the war should such a scenario be forced upon us?" Spock asked.

"I do not know. Why are you asking me? I am not the council chairman."

"No, but you hold much more influence then she does. I always wondered why you are not the chairman."

"I prefer the view from my chair in the council," was Turan's response. "Much more comfortable."

This got another raised eyebrow from the president.

"If the situation presents itself, to garner a satisfactory conclusion to this war, I will likely need your help on the council. During next month's vote on the chairmanship, I would like it if you were to make yourself available on the ballot."

"To chair the council?"

Spock nodded.

There was a long pause as Turan considered Spock's words. The Andorian didn't like the idea of the president trying to sway this kind of influence in the council. Even so, Turan could understand Spock's reasoning. Turan knew, though, that as council chairman, along with his other positions on the council, the kind of power he would wield would be greater than any other council member in the history of the Federation. It was the kind of power that Turan had no interest in obtaining. Only the president should have such power within the government.

It was dangerous. Turan wondered if Spock understood that.

'Of course he understands,' Turan thought. 'He's Spock.'

"I will consider it, but I hope it will not be necessary," Turan finally said.

Spock nodded.

"How is your Earth history?" Spock asked.

"All right, I suppose."

"Toward the end of their second world war, the United States and her allies were considering the invasion of Japan to force their unconditional surrender. Fortunately, the allies were able to avoid an invasion. Perhaps we well be as fortunate," Spock said.

"Instead, the Americans dropped two atomic bombs on Japan," Turan replied. "Unless you have your own weapon that would be destructive enough force the Romulans to surrender, then I doubt we will be so lucky."

"And if we had such a weapon, would we be willing to use it?" Spock asked as if he were thinking out loud.

Turan shrugged with his antennae "I do know one thing. I doubt the Federation worlds and Romulans will ever be as friendly as Japan was with most of the allied nations following their war."

"Really? If I recall, our peoples, the Andorians and Vulcans, were bitter enemies. And now, you and I hold key positions in an alliance of these worlds," Spock said. "I know that, deep down, the Romulan people want such a friendship. It is just that certain factions within their government have always denied that to them."

"Then we need to eliminate those factions," Turan said.

"Perhaps. But there will always be others to take their place. No, there has to be another way."

"I hope that we are smart enough to figure what that way is," Turan said

"As do I," Spock said. "As do I."

[USS Chimera] 240909.25 ||SB 234: UNITY|| Duty Log, Cmdr Rick Rodgers

=UNITY CEO's Office=
=Starbase UNITY=

"... and 477 minor repairs. Besides that, everything is becoming a bit more normal around here," the engineer, a Lieutenant (j.g.) said.

"Normal? What's that Nick?" Rick said, resulting in a few chuckles.

The CEO was sitting on the corner of his desk, while the starbase's other senior engineers were sitting in chairs or leaning against the bulkhead. It was a casual weekly briefing, which had been lacking when Utley was CEO. In fact, as far as anyone could recall, Utley never even bothered to have briefings. She would simply ask for reports from the other officers, but rarely interacted with her people.

"Gol, what about repairs in cargo bay three?" Rick asked of the Tellarite ensign. That was something else Rick had started doing, addressing his engineers bu their first names and they called him by his first name, that is when no other senior officers from other departments or command were around. For Rick, it worked well when he was CEO on the Chimera. He felt it brought the department closer together and it made him seem more accessable.

"We have managed to make repairs to most of the area outside the cargo bay. As you know, the damage was extensive," the Tellarite explained. "Most of cargo bay itself, though, is still being investigated. We are still waiting until security clears us to finish repairs and reopen the cargo bay."

Rick nodded, "We may have to wait a few days on that."

Gol nodded.

"When we're cleared to finish the job, how long do you expect the cargo bay to be operational?"

"Two days," Gol answered.

"Good. What about the sensor sweeps for any more explosives?" Rick asked.

"Right now, we've managed to scan only 32 percent of the starbase," Sam Iava, a part Human, part Deltan Lieutenant responded. "As you're aware, we're looking for very specific components that exist separately throughout the starbase. Even combined, they wouldn't set off any alarms, so we're forced to slowly look at any possible varables that may pop up. Thankfully, the science department has been a big help with this."

Rick shook his head, "Is there any way we can speed up the process? Admiral Guzman is getting kinda jumpy about this. He's wanting results sooner rather than later."

"I understand, Rick, but we've sped things up already as it is with help from science. Any faster and we're likely to over look something."

"OK, just do what you can," Rick said. "Lara, how are things going with the shipyard?"

"Pretty well, actually, "Lieutenant Proietti replied. "Since we've been able to get up and running, we've produced 134 Lancers, 30 of the older Peregrines, six runabouts and eight Type-11 shuttles. We've also made repairs to 37 starships."

"What's our production schedule look like for the upcoming month?" Rick asked.

"We're looking at building 48 Lancers in the next five weeks. We should also be finished with the shipyard expansion by the end of the week. That means in a month or so, we can produce our first Defiant without slowing down fighter production. We also have a request for a Nova as soon as the Defiant is finished. That should give us our first true test of our new production capabilities."

Rick nodded, "Very good. I look forward to seeing how that turns out."

The CEO stood, straightening his uniform, "Is there anything else?"

A couple of people shook their heads, but no one answered.

"All right, then. If there isn't anything else, then you're all excused."

Everyone started talking with each other as they cleared the office.

======= Main infirmary, SB 234: UNITY
======

It took me almost five minutes continuous work with the
dermal regenerator on LT. Wargrave to remove all the nastry
scratches from his back. He came in half an hour ago, with
his back looking like one of a hedgehog. His explanation was
funny and I had to do my best not to laugh. He was with his
gf in holodeck 24, enjoying a wild western (Earth) scenario,
when she jumped on him in a romantic rush … and he landed
with his back on a really big cactus plant. Who said that
love hurts?

The entry door hissed open and a man clad in command red
walked in, followed close by a couple of marines armed with
phaser rifles. His uniform was tipped with gold edges – a
flagg officer's uniform. There were just two flag officers
stationed on UNITY and General Sharpe was a marine and off
the station. It was of course Guzman who entered the
informary and walked through the place like he owned it.

{Well} I thought. In a certain way, he really owned the
place, being the Task Forco CO, but admitting the truth, I
never liked the man very much. It must be said that I know
Guzman for several years, in fact from the times he was just
a mere Commander and XO of the USS Chimera. He seemed always
somewhat distant and conceited, with his expressions
announcing that 'he' is the boss and 'you' are just a common
crewman.

Most of the visitors in the infirmary wait for a doctor to
address their need, but not Guzman. He walked straight to
the biobed of LT. Mumacik and only once arriving there, he
looked for someone to address. He wasn't far from me and I
could walk over and offer assistance, but honestly, such an
action was reserved for those wanting to
climb-the-rank-ladder then ordinary guy, so I just went on
with my work on LT. Wargrave and watched the events.
Finally, doctor T'Vel walked towards Guzman.

"Good day, Admiral" T'Vel said, "how can I help you?"

"Greetings" Guzman replied, "is Commander Summers here?"

T'Vel shook her head and replied: "No, she isn't on duty
this morning. Shall I call her?"

{Of course} I thought, {when THE Admiral ask for someone,
the phrase not on duty isn't an answer. Like anyone here
would be here just to please him}

Guzman shook his head and said: "No, do not bother. I am
here to see after LT. Mumacik. How is he?"

T'Vel showed Guzman closer to the biobed and explained: "He
suffered major burns and inner organ injuries, as you know,
sir. All his injuries were addressed and heal with great
speed, far better then medical science would predict. Exact
reasons are unknown for now. But there is one problem we
have not been able to address yet …"

The doctor was interrupted by Mumacik. I have to admit that
LT. Mumacik is yet an another officer that was not up to my
taste. He was the Chief of fleet level security and
effectcive the Chief of all security on UNITY and he was
{when I should believe all the tales told) a real pain in
the ass for many on board. He was a real beaurocrat and
sticked to the rules like a probe of slime mud on a wall.
One was missing a single signature on a list of 20 pages
length and he would send you off to get that last signature
without any mercy. Archibald from science told me once that
a friend of his from Aldebaran send him two bottles of
Romulan ale and Mumacik send a whole security team to
confiscate the bottles and to question him about possible
connections to Tal'shiar for half an hour.

"Good day, Admiral Guzman" Mumacik said, "can I please
inquire about the status of the explosives cargo bay three
investigation?"

A smile appeared on Guzman's lips and he said: "We are
working on it, Lieutenant. Captain Rogers identified a
possible cover organization of those terrorists".

I knew what to expect to come next and looked away. It took
Mumacik just a moment to say:

"Good day, Admiral Guzman" Mumacik said, "can I please
inquire about the status of the explosives cargo bay three
investigation?"

This time, Guzman looked quite puzzled and he replied: "As I
said, Captain Trent has a hot clue and is working on the
case."

It was T'Vel who said: "Admiral, I have to inform you that
Lieutenant Mumacik os suffering ftom …"

She was interrupted by Mumacik was asked again: "Good day,
Admiral Guzman" Mumacik said, "can I please inquire about
the status of the explosives cargo bay three investigation?"

"… repetitive short time memory losses." T'Vel ended, "We
still do not know the reason for this condition"

"Damn" Guzman cursed, "I hoped to have him back on duty
soon"

"Good day, Admiral Guzman" Mumacik said, "can I please
inquire about the status of the explosives cargo bay three
investigation?"

T'Vel shook her head: "I am afraid it wont be possible, sir"
she said.

[USS Chimera] SD240909.25 | ALPHA | Duty Log | MCapt R. Spiers | CO-E

[Location: Norris VIII-A]

[Time: 1330 hours, Federation Standard Time]

The glare of sunlight off the snow blanketing the ground caused the small group to close their eyes and glance downwards as they emerged from the relative darkness of the blown-out building; however, as they finally allowed their eyes to adjust to the external light and caught their first glances at the battlefield aboveground, all of them (save the Vulcan) could not help but smile.

About a hundred meters from the building that Lieutenant T'Shal and Sergeant Jalanak were carrying Captain Spiers out from rested a number of AC-808 Thumper transport vessels resting on the ground. Hundreds of Marines had already unloaded from the ships and were mobilizing to make a move against the Romulans besieging the communications tower. In the distance several transports could be seen on the roof of it as well.

"Captain Spiers!" called out an individual, moving through crowd towards the trio. He was half yelling out over the sound of the still active thrusters of the transports. "Major Frank Burns! I've got orders to get you and the rest of Easy Company out of here!"

Adjusting on the shoulders of his supporters, Spiers offered the man a nod, "You'll understand if I don't shake your hand, Major." Motioning his head towards the tower across the installation he asked, "What of First Platoon?"

Ushering the Marines towards the nearest Thumper, with the men and women of Second Platoon following behind, Burns answered, "They secured the objective, Captain! We've brought in First Battalion to relieve you all and secure this rock!"

A wave of relief washed through the Captain's body, grateful that something had gone right. The lives lost in the tunnels below had gone to accomplish a greater goal. Then it occurred to him what the Major had just said, "Wait! You brought in First Battalion?!"

While T'Shal and Jalanak lifted him up into the bay of the transport Burns replied, "Yes! There's more transports in orbit ready to bring the rest down as soon as we get you guys out! Major Lennox and his birds will be flying cover!"

Unable to resist while his Marine's moved him into a seat and strapped him in, Spiers sighed and shook his head. They sent one company to take the facility, and an entire battalion to hold it. There were just loads of common sense flowing down the chain of command these days. The strength of the entire Second Battalion could have made this invasion a great deal simpler, especially against the number of Romulan soldiers making up the resistance.

To his left and right he found the rest of Easy's Third Platoon, the group that had held the entrance while Spiers and Second Platoon had attacked (and destroyed) the installation's power generation station. They looked beat up and worn out, and several had wounds bleeding through their combat uniforms; however, as they sat there most of them looked satisfied, aware of a job well done. When they got back to wherever they were going the Captain would make sure to put them in for a commendation.

The moment Natalia was certain the Rapier hadn't been detected by the Romulan forces, she ordered the ship to turn around and head to the edge of the Nursery at maximum speed. Though both the Chimera and the Eagle were formidable ships, they didn't stand a chance against the Romulan forces guarding the base if it came to a fight... which it no doubt would. She sat in the command seat drumming her fingers on the armrest as the ship traveled as fast as it could.

She'd already prepared a standard request message to be sent out once they reached the edge of the Nursery. Their heading would take them directly along the route of a cloaked Klingon patrol group. The Rapier wouldn't be able to detect them, but they'd see the Rapier and would make contact upon receiving the message. It was now her job to get reinforcements to make sure Bravo's mission didn't fail.

"Commander, we've reached the inner edge," Lieutenant Do'Urden reported from the helm station. "Long range sensors are becoming available."

"Drop us out of warp and broadcast the message on all Klingon channels," Natalia ordered.

"Aye, ma'am," helm responded. Her fingers danced across the console and Natalia watched the view screen as the Rapier dropped out of subspace into the region just inside the outer edge of the Nursery.

"Commander, you may want to see this," Lt Commander zh'Rathradin, the Rapier's new XO, said from the science station.

Natalia quickly left her chair and moved over to the console. "What is it?" she asked.

"Romulan fleet movements," the Andorian replied. "Long range sensors have picked up a large convoy of ships heading towards this sector. Their current trajectory would take them straight to the Ru'Bazean homeworld."

"Why aren't they cloaked?" Natalia wondered out loud. "This isn't typical strategy for the Romulans."

"Perhaps they don't feel its necessary since the planet is still under their control," zh'Rathradin suggested, her antennae curling downward in thought.

"No, I don't think it's that," Natalia replied as a possibility came to her. "This space is crawling with Klingon patrols and Starfleet ships. They wouldn't want to expose themselves unless they had no other choice, unless some of those ships weren't able to cloak."

"Thalaron cruisers?" zh'Rathradin suggested. Natalia just nodded in solemn reply.

"Commander, we're being hailed by a Klingon cruiser," Do'Urden spoke up.

"Finally," Natalia said. "On screen."

[USS Chimera] ||BRAVO||SD240909.24 Duty Log - COps/AOps Lt/LtJg Ian Vaughn and Ianto Jones - "Assessing the Situation"

=/\= Deck 1 - Main Bridge, USS Chimera C =/\=

Ian was super busy going through damage reports coming in from all sections of the ship and then dealing with messages from those sections requesting damage control teams. After re-routing all messages for damage control teams to the ODCC where they could then get the teams there faster then Ian could. He started putting the reports into queue and then sending them to the ODCC so that they knew which one needed a damage control team first.

He then got back to work on rerouting power away from the damaged EPS relays but he had make sure he wouldn't overload any of the other ones. Looking through the communications he found the one he was looking for the damage control teams had one of the section of damage EPS relays fixed which allowed Ian to have them power to run through the newly replaced ones.

=/\= Deck 12 - ODCC, USS Chimera C =/\=

Ianto was standing in the middle of the ODCC with a tablet in his hands where all the damage reports and messages from the different of the sections of the ships were coming from. "Teams 2 and 3 meet with the quartermasters teams on deck 3 and get those EPS relays up and running." Ianto shouted at the two teams. Moving that order into the list of being worked on he moved onto the next one.

"Fire control teams 5 and 9 deck 6." Ianto said again doing the same thing putting it into the being worked on list. He then walked over to a console plugged in the tablet and started to deal with the first task on the being worked on list he noticed that they were almost done which was good. With in 15 minuets 1/3 of the tasks were done he then sent a update report to Ian on the bridge. He then moved on through the queue and and sending teams out and checking teams back in.

=/\= Deck 1 - Main Bridge, USS Chimera C =/\=

Ian read through the report he smiling he forwarded the report to the CO's chair as he continued to monitor the sensors, power flow and the many other things that he had access to. He was mainly worried about power flow but seeing how fast the EPS relays were being repaired he was getting less worried about that.

[USS Chimera] SD240909.24 | ALPHA | Joint Duty Log | 2LT C. Merau & 2LT R. Winters

[Location: Norris VIII-A]
[Time: 1320 hours, Federation Standard Time]

The fighters of the 501st had been holding station just outside of the Norris system, ready to jump in to support the guys on the ground at a moment's notice. So when the call came in from Padassa that the request had come in, Major Lennox was up and moving.

Now the squadron was angling in through the atmosphere of Norris Eight, heading straight for the Romulan compound. "Targets designated Alpha and Bravo being transmitted down. Keep lines of fire constrained. We've got friendlies down there."
Chloe moved her hands elegantly over the console, moving threw the atmosphere. "Entering the upper atmosphere." Chloe said over the comm.

She heard others confirm as the did the same around her. "Targets confirmed." Chloe Meru said as she entered far enough into the planet's atmosphere to be able to visually see the targets. "Permission to fire."
"Permission granted," Lennox called through the comm system. "Split by pairs and light'em up."

Chloe took off with the pilot with the call sign 'Puppy'. Together they started firing like mad. Chloe's aim was quick, but chosen carefully with thought. She didn't want to take out someone that was on their side. The pain she would feel from that would be beyond what she could handle knowing that she had done that.
They weren't getting much resistance, and she found that odd.

Chloe then pulled sharply to the left, the up avoiding 'Puppy's' fighter.

Getting closer, she could see the source of the billowing smoke. A crater or so.... "what is that" she mumbled to herself, but still over the comm.

"Cut the chatter," ordered the Major's voice. There was random, discordant disruptor fire raising from the surface, but it was becoming more and more unorganized as the Romulan troops began looking for cover.

-I can cut something else- she thought to herself as she kept choosing her targets, harder now that they were disappearing. "Lennox, orders?" Chloe asked as she wasn't seeing any more desirable targets.

There was only a moment's delay before he replied, "Take your wing and escort hoppers one and two down to the roof of that building. I've signaled Easy's men to get ready to head out as soon as First Battalion's men unload."

"Understood." Chloe was in the lead, -puppy- was there beside her. Several other pilots also landed as quickly and gracefully as possible.

--[Inside the Communications Facility]--

"Alright, guys! Grab your gear!"

The men of First Platoon had, of course, heard the exchange between Lieutenant Winters and Major Lennox, and had already begun grabbing their gear as some of them strained to see out through the viewports to watch for the incoming transports. There were far more men coming in from First Battalion, plent to replace the men of Easy in holding the installation while still beating back the Romulan resistance.

Within minutes the Marines were ready to depart, waiting for the final signal before moving up to the rooftop.

--[Back Outside]--

Getting out of her fighter, she opened the cockpit. The air being moved around from the hopper's landing pushed against her, but she kept her balance. "Lets get Easy out of here!" Chloe said to the others.

As dozens of men poured from the Marine transports onto the roof of the building, flooding downwards into its corridors, Lieutenant Winters emerged from the rooftop exit, followed quickly by Bull Randleman and another pair of his men. The rest had stayed back in the control room until the reinforcements relieved them.

Chloe hoped out of her figter, now on the ground. She had a phaser in her hand, hoping she wouldn't have to use it. Seeing the doorway where the marines would come out she waved to them to start coming as the hoppers opened their doors. "Lets go lets go!" She said loudly, knowing they could hear her threw the com system.

Motioning for the younger pair to enter the transports as the men of 1st Battalion finished emptying, Winters and Randleman moved in the woman's direction. A moment later the rest of First Platoon was moving from within the building to board the transports. Dick did his best to smile as he greeted her, "Nice to see you again, Lieutenant."

"Nice to see you too. Seems you needed a little help down here." Chloe said with a smile. "Lets get you all out of here. Unless there's something else?" Chloe asked, curious because they weren't getting on the hoppers.

"Better late than never," replied Randleman under his breath.

Winters shot him a reproachful look before shaking his head, "Once I'm sure that my men are on board those ship's I'll make sure to get on." There was a moment's pause and another look shared between the two Marines before the Lieutenant spoke up again, "Any word on Second and Third Platoons?"

Chloe gave a glare at Randleman, but then looked to Winters. "No, no word from them at the moment."

With a sign and a nod, Dick watched as the last of First Platoon boarded the hoppers. Turning to move towards the nearest one he motioned for Randleman to follow, "C'mon, Bull. We'll be able to contact the other transports from inside." Turning back to the Merau he called back, "Thanks again, Lieutenant. I owe you a drink when we get home!"

"I will hold you accountable for that." Chloe said as she climbed back into her fighter seeing the others do so as well. When no one was left on the top of the building, Chloe started up her engines again. She was one of the first to take up into the air. "Hoppers, your clear to ascend." She said threw the comm as she checked the air above them.

"Copy that, Aphrodite. Heading out."

--[Inside Marine Hopper 32-Sigma]--

With a heavy sigh Dick Winters leaned his head against the vibrating inside wall of the hopper. These craft were never meant for comfort, and at the moment there were a dozen men crammed into its hold for the trip out. Once the rough transistion through the atmosphere was completed the Lieutenant would head up to the cocpit to check on Captain Spiers and the rest of Easy, but for now all he could do was close his eyes and wait...

*** Guzman / Summers Quarters * SB Unity ***

The cleaner moved her trolley down the hallway checking the
padd with the list of the rooms she had to visit and take
new sheets to.
She stopped outside the First Task Force CO's family
quarters within the secured section. She entered the daily
code she had been given for the quarters and picked up a
labelled bundle of sheets off her trolley and entered.

Rangi was working in the kitchen, inspired that day to make
a meal from scratch and to serve it to her beloved who she
knew had forgotten the anniversary of their meeting.
At least she was pretty certain he had, for he hadn't
mentioned a thing about it that morning when he left to take
Martin to the preschool class before going on to his own
office.
Rangi was not a great cook by any stretch of the imagination
but what she lacked in skill, she more than made up for in
effort.

Hearing the door open, she paused in mixing her ingredients,
laid the spoon to one side and moved to the kitchen door.
" Oh...good morning." she called, seeing the woman enter,
her arms loaded with linen.

"Good Morning Ma'am, unusual to see someone in during the
daytime." The woman gave a polite smile and asked. "Would
you prefer I come back later, if it is more convenient?"

" Oh no, not at all." Rangi replied returning the smile.
"I'm working in here this morning so won't be in your
way.....Special occasion." she added.

The woman smiled. "I hope you enjoy yourselves. I'll just
change the sheets and get out your hair."

The woman started to move away from the door but suddenly
she flew in as if she was pushed from behind. She struggled
to her knees and then her posture abruptly changed.
There was an electronic buzz and then there was a shimmer as
a man dressed in black appeared behind the cleaner with a
knife to her throat.

The spoon Rangi was holding clattered to the floor as she
dropped it in a reflex movement to press her commbadge.Next
moment she realised the futility, for her commbadge lay on
the bedside table where she had left it the night before,
not intending to wear her uniform at all that day.

" Leave her!" she shouted darting forward from the doorway.

The man gave a cruel smile
"I think you're misunderstanding the situation Commander
Summers."

Rangi came to a halt gauging what to do next.
The knife was pressed very close against the womans skin and
it would take only a slight increase in pressure for it to
sink into her throat.

"Who are you?" she asked. " What do you want?"

[USS Chimera] SD 240909.22 || BRAVO || Duty Log || Cmdr Typhon - USS Eagle ||

[Bridge - Deck One - RIS Falcore]

"Riov, the Chimera is lowering their shields." The weapons officer reported fro his station.

Reth'ah smirked deceptively. "But time is up." He turned to the communications officer, "Give the fire order."

But before the communications officer could relay the confirmation from the two d'deridex escorts, the Chimera was already just off the Falcore's port bow - and her phasers had already released their bane.

"Riov!" Was all the weapons officer could relay before the bridge was engulfed in the explosion that took off from the ships singularity drive, caused by the matter/anti-matter explosion from the Chimera's volley of quantum torpedoes.

[Bridge - Deck One - USS Eagle]

"Ha Ha!" Typhon guffawed, sending the bubbles in his suit bubbling violently again the glass visor. "Hot damn! The picard maneuver!" He turned to his anxious looking andorian XO, LtCmdr Tu'loong, and nudged him with his elbow. "See, I told you not to worry about that Captain Rojac."

Tu'loong crossed his arms and leaned back in his chair. "He's not out of this yet, sir."

[Bridge - Deck One - RIS Shirkah]

"The Federation vessel has gone to warp!" A sensor operator called out. "She's just off Reth'ah's bow!"

"The Falcore has been destroyed!" The Weapons Officers called.

The Riov of the Shirkah was immediately on his feet, yelling orders to the subordinates around him."Recalibrate targeting sensors, fire at will!"

"Targeting!" The Weapons officer reported. "Firing torpedo bays one and two!"

The bridge officers could here the echoes through the hull as the torpedoes erupted from their launching points toward their target. The Riov's eyes widened as he saw the federation ship's warp engines glow brightly. They were going to warp! But just as the ship entered warped space, the torpedoes struck against the port nacelle.  They could'nt get far.

With Reth'ah gone, the Shirkah's Riov, Riov Grin'leth, became the flotilla commander. So said the contingency plans for the mission in the Stellar Nursery. The Shirkah was the second of three Thalaron cruisers assigned to the defense of the station, both in this dimension and Grin'leth's home dimension. He immediately pointed to his communications officer and ordered two scout vessels to pursue the fleeing Federation ship.

In the rear of the bridge though, a sensor operator made a startling discovery. While monitoring the movement of the Federation fighter craft on the visual scanners his eyes caught a glimmer of light off in the distance. He cross checked it against the material sensors - but they came up negative. He almost shrugged it off as his eyes playing a trick on him, but something nagged at him to magnify the scan. And when he did he saw clearly the outline of a katana-b class federation ship. He quietly waived the Riov over.

[Bridge - Deck One - USS Eagle]

"Captain, the Chimera ha entered the nebula." The vulcan science officer reported.

"At warp speed!?" Tu'loong commented. "Are they crazy?"

"Yes." Typhon responded. "But is it any crazier than staying behind to engage a small fleet of powerful enemy vessels alone?"

"I guess its just a crazy as we are for staying here." Tu'loong answered. The Executive turned toward the bajoran Operations officer, "Anything yet from the Away Teams?"

"No sir." She replied. "They've been operation for only five minutes. "They are not due to check-in until ten minutes have passed."

"Right," Tu'loong said, sitting back in his chair. "I'm just getting jumpy I guess."

Typhon gave a knowing smile. The Commander was feeling the stress as well, certainly, but he couldn't let his crew see it. He needed to be the epitome of confidence - even f that confidence was waning.

The tactical officer noticed a strange movement form one of the Romulan ships, and zoomed in on the tactical read-outs on his display. "Captain," he reported, "one of the thalaron cruisers has made a course change."

"Are they going after the Chimera?" Typhon asked.

"Negative, sir." the human reported. "It looks like they are headed right for us."

"Is the hull plating still operational?" Tu'loong asked. His eyes were wide, his antennae standing erect.

"Aye, sir." Was the confused reply the human officer reported back.

The CO and XO shared a nervous glance before the Commander turned toward the helm. "Evasive maneuvers!"

But it was too late. The thalaron beam erupted from the Shirkah like a blooming flower that enveloped the small Katana-b class cruiser. Within seconds all organic material on the vessel necrotized, turned to dust, and fell lifelessly to the floor. Faces turned to bone, staring in disbelief as the deadly image enshrined on the viewscreen as life left their bodies and soon turned to dust. The ship sat lifeless in the void of space, with an empty hydration suit slumped over in the center chair.

    - Summaries (Rangi)
    -------------------------

    Alpha - Bren

On Norris VIII-A, 2Lt Winters' team discover that the Romulans have sent a subspace transmission 30 light-years away, possibly informing their fleet of the take-over. Winters sends a message to Padassa requesting immediate air support.

Inside the station, Sergeant Jalanak's group comes across Marine Captain Spiers.

    Beta - Rojac

Before game time, Lt. Kroitzer called Lt Walker to his office and appointed him Deputy CEO. Castillo paid a visit to Fisher in Sickbay, and attempted to order around the CMO. After receiving orders, Xerxes and her wingmen scorched into the void to join the fray. The Chimera began its assault on the secret Romulan base and its defenses, until it was stopped dead in its tracks by a flotilla headed by three Thalaron Cruisers that emerged from the dimensional gate. Meanwhile, the Eagle dropped off their "packages" on the targeted station. Riov Reth'ah, Commander of the Falcore, spoke with Captain Rojac and negotiated the terms of the Chimera's surrender.

    Charlie - Ixus

EAS Hermes has commenced launch operations in orbit above the target. Chisulo spots a Romulan feint at the EAS Artemis for what it is, an attack on the Hermes.  Viktor orders Col. Anios to prepare defensive screens.

    Delta - Rik

    None submitted.

    Unity - Rangi

Shane was frustrated that Unity could not have a full internal scan for any more organic explosives for it would prove long and time consuming. His work load was increasing and despite the pleasing  reports from the fronts, Shane had a great deal of worry on his mind.

Trent too was puzzleing over the explosion and but needed more information than he had.A beautiful Ktarian woman interrupted his ponderings and only when she jogged his memory did he remember she had arrived for an  interview regarding an aides post. He realized that Admiral Jefferson had set it up but engaged  Denaria anyway and was attracted by her smile and soft hands :)

[Does the station's counselor need to address the Admiral's anger issues?]
Somewhat irritated, Shane threw the PADD he was just holding against the wall. Following the physical rules, it hard landed on the wall, bounced somewhat back and landed on the floor – with the display broken. The PADD was all innocent, of course, but the content made Shane quite unhappy.
    +RAdm S. Guzman

    [There is always a bright-side]

It was Sergeant Jalanak who answered this time, "If the communications system was still operational, then it's a safe bet Winters and his gang has gotten a message out. If not, well…too bad we're not Klingons."

No one said a thing, but both Spiers and T'Shal raised eyebrows in the Sergeant's direction.

"I mean, after a fight like this I don't see any of us being denied into the afterlife."

[I don't think he needs an aide...]

"Captain Rodgers?" Trent heard a female voice say as he looked up from his reports and noticed a beautiful Ktarian woman standing at the door..

    "Yes."

"I have an appointment with you," she replied.

    "You do?"

"Yes, my name is Denaria. Denaria Loto."

Trent just stared at her for a moment, both finding her very attractive and wondering what the hell she was talking about at the same time.

"I'm here about the aide position," she added, apparently noticing the XO's confusion.

"Oh, yeah. Of course. I forget all about it with everything going on around here," Trent finally stood. "Please, have a seat."

[You just gonna takes this Ops?]

Her tactical computer chimed with target assignments for her fighters. She ignored them trusting her own judgments better than those of the rookie Operations Officer sending them.  She quickly analyzed the situation and made her call.

"Ahhh, the Supervisor here", Castillo began.  "Yes, actually you are the one I came to see.  As you should know we are at red alert and will be engaging in battle soon, we also have two away teams out at the moment.  As you may not know I am acting Chief of Security while Major Cortez is away, which means I'm the one who gets to bother you about details.  In Short Lieutenant, I wanted to ask your help in setting up a sort of triage unit besides sickbay, as we may incur more casualty's than can be handled in here.  Also, you'll find that several of the security staff are trained in basic medical procedures should you need some extra hands".

Charly stopped and was his custom sort of arched his head to the side and looked at Scott as if he was a child.

A short pause followed this statement in which Scott took the opportunity to glance back at his desk and the work upon it. By the time he looked back at his visitor, the slight smile of wry amusement had gone from his expression.

    + Lt C. Castillo & Lt S. Fisher

    * SUBJECT LINES/LOGGING GUIDELINES/WEBSITE NEWS/IRC INFO *
    ==============================================
    -------------------------
    - Subject Lines
    -------------------------
Please remember to use the following format for your subject lines:
SD 24YYMM.DD, Duty/Personal Log, Rank Name
    e.g., SD 240502.01, CO's Log, Capt Rojac
e.g., SD 240502.01, Personal Log, Cropa Rojac
The [USS Chimera] part of the subject is placed automatically by the listserv, so you don't need to include it.
Also remember to include your details at the end of your log
    e.g.,
    Captain Cropa Rojac
    Commanding Officer
    USS Chimera NX 96899-B
    -------------------------
    - Logging Guidelines
    -------------------------
    Logging:
The weekly logging deadline is at Midnight (12:00AM/00:00) GMT/UTC (19:00 EST); all logs received after the deadline will be counted for the following week. If you are pressed for time and would like a log to count for the previous week, but it is sent after the deadline, please send an email to the command team when you send the log so that we can make the corrections.
Please remember that all MAJOR plot changes need to be cleared with the command staff before a log goes through! You can do this by sending the command staff (
chimera-command@ucip.org ) a log labeled with "Draft" tagged to the subject line. We'll typically let you know if it's approved within 24 to 48 hours, or tell you what might need to be modified before it's sent to the listserv.
When using other characters in your logs, please keep in mind that person's characteristics. Character information can be found on the UCIP website or the USS Chimera website (under CREW - just click on the Star Trek symbol next to the character's name). If you're still unsure how to interact with a character, then privately mail the person
involved, and I'm sure they'll be willing to help.
Conversely, if you feel that your character is being portrayed incorrectly by someone please contact them to try to work out an agreeable solution. Just keep in mind when logging to treat other characters the way you'd like them to treat you - with the respect due to any member of Starfleet who is a specialist in their field.
If you think your log may be going out of bounds, then please ask! If you are having problems finding things to write about or would just like some help with your log, please contact your department head or the command team. Remember, you don't always have to log about things relating to the main plot - logs that develop your character's
personality are encouraged! We're eager to help if you're having trouble; just email the command team (
    chimera-command@ucip.org).

Promotion is based upon quality and regularity of logging, among other
factors All promotions after Lieutenant Commander require review and

    - On Report
    -------------------------
Any officer who is Absent Without Leave (0) for two or more consecutive
weeks is considered "On Report." Crewmen on report should email the command staff immediately to explain their absence (too much to do in RL is a fine excuse) and say when they anticipate being able to log again in the future.
The following crewmen are on report:

    none.
    -------------------------
    - Removals/Resignations
    -------------------------
The following crew have either resigned or have been dropped due to lack of activity. If they would like a position on the USS Chimera, they will need to reapply.
