[USS Chimera] SD 240911.21 SB Unity Duty Log: Major Cortez / Commander Jacobs

*** Observation Bay * Main Hospital * SB Unity ***

He had sat there waiting for some time, yet was not bothered
by the wait and would in fact have not been annoyed if his
visit had been in vain for he had no problem in spending his
time in this manner.

The viewport looked towards the planet but with scope of the
space beyond and although the scene could be observed from
many places on the base, it was one that Stephen enjoyed.
So he sat back in the reclining chair, totally relaxed and
unconcerned that his working day was ticking away and even
when the person he planned to meet eventually entered the
bay, Stephen merely gave him a short glance then returned to
the view with no sign of a greeting.

Richard Cortez limped into the room with as much authority
as he could muster.
He was wearing the standard issue robes that every sick
person in sickbay received and it seemed as if every part of
his body ached for some reason or another but he did his
best to pretend he was perfectly healthy even though he knew
nobody cared.
In reality he was unable to do much besides walk slowly and
even the smallest of tasks caused him much effort, to the
point that he wondered if Summers had given him a faulty
pair of lungs and screwed up the operation.
It had taken quite a bit of strength to walk even this far
and once he reached the view-port he paused to catch his
breath contemplating how to best convince the Nurse back in
sickbay to give him a few extra pain pills and authorize him
fit for duty.

Stephen turned his head a little and watched Cortez, noting
the mans laboured breathing and slight tremour in his
clenched hand as though he sort to control himself but was
finding it hard to do so.
He said nothing expecting Cortez to notice him, for there
are few people who cannot 'feel' themselves being watched.

" Good view." he said looking out at it again himself.

Richard turned his head at the comment, suddenly noticing
the man sitting down in one of the several chairs pointed
towards
the viewport.
"I've seen better", he responded leaning on the hand rail
surrounding the area.

Stephen made no responce to the comment but instead busied
himself by unfastening the battered rucksack on the seat
beside him, dragging it onto his knee and delving deep into
an outer pocket from which he produced a small silver flask.
He dumped the rucksack to one side, unscrewed the top of the
flask and took a swig from the contents, savouring the
taste.

Richard took as deep a breath as he could and glanced back
at the stranger as he drank from his flask. He smiled, took
a
couple steps back and sat down in the chair where the mans
sack once lay.

"But it is a good view", he added resting his limbs on the
armrests.

Stephen swallowed, nodded his head in agreement and raised
the flask to his lips again taking a smaller sip this time.
He enjoyed it as before and rested his hand holding the
flask on his knee.
After a few seconds he glanced at Cortez and lifting the
flask gestured that he might share a sip or two if he
wished.

Cortez looked over at the man and cocked his head to the
side.
"Thanks", he said taking the flask from his hands and
downing a decent sized swig.
"Whiskey" he said after swallowing. "Not that synthesized
shit either", he added wiping the drops from his chin with
his wrist.
Reaching out his left arm he handed the container back to
the stranger and then offered his right hand, "I'm Richard".

"Stephen." he replied shaking Cortez hand firmly.
"I dont do synthesized." he added "...waste of mans taste
buds."

He watched a shuttle travel right to left across the view
then asked " Been here long?" although he didnt look at
Cortez as he spoke.

Cortez couldn't help but laugh at the question almost
coughing. He took another breath and paused,
"I don't know" he finally said. "I think its been a week or
more....but it feels like only a day or two".
As he said that he turned his head back towards Stephen.
"How about you?", he added.

" I'm often in here." Stephen replied and nodding his head
towards the planet added: " That beats the clinical places."
he glanced at Cortez "...even if the nurses add an
attraction of their own."
He gave a slow smile as he said it and for the first time
was able to study Cortez face for a second or two.

The Major smiled, thinking about Natalie, the nurse who had
attended to him, "yeah", he chuckled. "It seems as thought
its
mandatory for nurses to be pretty", he added rolling his
head back towards the view.
"Never had time for any of that though...", he finally said
after a few moments of silence. "So what are you doing
here....you don't look sick or anything". he added.

"Physically you cannot hope to meet a finer specimen."
Stephen said and chuckled at the ridiculous statement then
changing his tone added: " I talk to counselors quite a
bit."

"Well then you have my pity", Richard responded. "I've
never met a more self involved pious bunch than the people
who call
themselves counselors".
He shook his head at the comment. "Its hard to believe in
this day and age when we are in the middle of a war they
still let people sit in chairs all day and talk....we should
give em a rifle and send em off to the front if you ask me".

"You have a point." Stephen replied although which point he
agreed with was not stated. He lifted the flask but paused,
lowered it and giving Cortez a sideways glance said:
" Shouldnt drink too much of this."
He lifted the flask, took a longer swig and grimaced as it
bit home.
Wordlessly he offered it to Cortez.

[USS Chimera] SD240911.19 | JL - COps, DCOps | MCapt Reese, Lt Vaughn | "A Job Well Done"

= ODCC, USS Chimera C =

Jade was in her office going over a few things she wanted to make sure the small ceremony went off without a hitch she then was happy with everything before she left her office she called in her yeoman, "Petty Officer Sierra can you gather everyone into the conference room." Jade asked the yeoman.

"Aye ma'am." She said pushing a button which allowed her to broadcast a message throughout the ODCC, "all operations personnel please report to the conference room. She then stood up and followed the Marine Captain through a door that led to the conference room from her office.

Once in the conference room Jade took her usual seat and the Petty Officer took the one to her right and the one to her left was reserved for Ian seeing as he was her right hand man. The operation department started to file into the conference room one by one most of the junior officers standing along the wall allowing the senior officers to sit down at the table. Once they were all present and accounted for Jade stood up.

"Thank you for coming everyone I just finished reading the CO's report on how all departments performed and also just finished Mr Vaughn's report on how this department preformed." Jade said taking a second to take a breath, "and I must say that I'm very impressed with each and everyone of you." Jade said stopping a moment to allow this to sink in and she gave around of applause.

"One more thing before you leave." Jade said knowing that there was still a lot of work to be done but she wanted to do this, "could Lt Vaughn please come up here." Jade said standing at the front of the conference room with Sierra at her side holding a solid black box and then a oak box, "Lt Vaughn Captain Rojac wanted me to do the honors first off we present you with the Preantares Ribbon it's awarded to you for the job well done of running the Operations department in my absence." Jade said taking the ribbon and pinning it on Ian and then allowing around of applause.

"Also we're promoting you to the rank of LtCmdr congratulations Cmdr." Jade said grinning as she added a solid black pip to his uniform, "you deserved this." She whispered in his ear when she shook his hand and patted him on his back.

"Thank you ma'am." Ian (NPC) said blushing a little bit, "if it's alright with you I would like to get back to work and get you caught up so you can run your department again." He said smiling. With that Jade dismissed everyone and they all headed out and congratulated Ian on the way out.

Martin was unwell.
He had trailed into Shane and Rangis bedroom during the
previous night, holding his favourite soft toy Zaba the Frog
by one leg and had come to a stop, thumb in his mouth, next
to the bed.
He stood for some moments looking at the sleeping figures of
his parents then patted Rangis shoulder with the hand that
held the little frog.

She stirred, settled herself and sighed.
Martin frowned and patted her again but not as gently this
time.

" Mmmmmm?" Rangi murmured rising from the depths of sleep as
the insessant patting continued. She blinked open her eyes
only to meet the sight of Zabas happy grin a few inches from
her face.

"What's..." She turned her head as she spoke."
Martin?...what's the matter?" she whispered, seeing his
forlorn figure watching her.

" I dont feel very well." he replied sorrowfully, still with
his thumb in his mouth and Rangi hurriedly propped herself
up on one arm and reached to him. He moved closer and she
touched his face knowing in an instant that he was feverish.
He stepped back as she sat up and swung her legs out of bed
then moved to her again as two large tears spilled over and
trickled down his cheeks.
" Shhhhh...it's alright." she said gathering him into her
arms. She stood up.

" Whatsamatter?" Shane asked from his side of the bed, still
more than half asleep himself.

" Nothing.." Rangi replied. " Martin needs a drink...go back
to sleep." she urged.
This seemed to satisfy Shane who, after a few over long
days, was only too glad to return to his rest.

Rangi moved towards the door and Martin nestled his head
against her neck as she carried him out of the bedroom,
closing the door behind them.

It didnt take long for her to know that the child had a mild
illness of the sore throat, headache and letheragy type.
Her medkit contained a suitable treatment and once that had
been administered she gave him a drink and took him back to
his own bed where she sat with him for some time until he
fell asleep.

The following morning he was a lot better but not well
enough to go to his playschool and it was decided that Rangi
would stay at home and care for him herself.
She organised things with her yoeman while Shane kept an eye
on his son and then, once content with that Martin was on
the road to recovery, kissed the little boy, told him to get
well soon, patted Zaba on his head and told him to care for
Martin, kissed Rangi goodbye and left for his office.

So it was that some reports lay unread on Rangis desk that
day. In fact they would remain unread for a few days until
she caught up on the backed up padds, as the report sent
from Science was listed as a grade three priority.

**

During late Summer, the harvest on Alpha Leonis, an M class
planet in a system relatively close to the Klingon border,
had been ruined by a decease. The first of the crop was
hardly in before the rest was lying in ruins, razed to the
ground.

Some of the farmers had developed a brewing business, making
a modest but growing success of a Honey Mead which
incorporated the local wheat and that year their produce too
had been severely cut.

**

Thirty thousand light years away, the inhabitants on Aurelia
Prime were enjoying the promise of a good harvest until
that is, within a week, the plants above ground had withered
and died, victim of a 'stem rust'.

The origin of the problem lay to the north of the main
colony and the invisible clouds of wind born spores
travelled undetected for hundreds of miles, devasting
cultivated crops along the way.

Both of these incidents were reported to the Agricultural
Office where the cropping figures were analysed, the spores
were investigated and new resistant strains were developed.

It wasn't until the early winter that medical Officers on
both planets would begin sending reports of an unknown
condition suffered by a small percentage of the farming
populations.
No deaths occurred and the illness itself was extremely
mild, causing in 99% of the cases, nothing more than a short
lived sore throat and headache.
One interesting feature though, common to both, was a
resulting pattern of visible dark lines on the patients
upper torsos.
They did not itch or cause any problems at all except from
a cosmetic point of view.

**

It was interesting to note that a Ferengi trading ship, the
FMS Me-Vetra, had collected eighteen cases of Honey Mead
from Alpha Leonis.

This fact would result in a diplomatic incident, for the
Federation Colonists were accused of selling tainted goods
at extortionate prices.
The Ferengi based this surmise on the fact that the captain
and senior crew of the ship had drunk some of the Mead at a
celebration party and days later had developed a pattern on
their skin which they blamed on the wine.

**

By the time Rangi had read the reports, she would feel that
'dark lines' were beginning to haunt her.

"Six months. Is that the best we can do?" Rick asked.

"Considering the simulations last week had the effects of the TechEx lasting for almost two years, I consider that a great improvement," Trevor Wright said from his station in the lab. "Besides, the important thing is that the area we're trying to effect is in acceptable parameters."

Rick shook his head.

"If the Rommies were to surrender right away, do you know how many civilians will die in six months without the ability to get aid to them?"

"I am quite aware of that. For now, it might have to do. Starfleet wants to run a test on this thing in the Columbia system in two weeks."

"Then you're going to have to delay it," Rick said.

Wright stood and stretched his arms over his head.

"I've already delayed it two weeks. We're behind schedule as it is. We need to have this device ready to ship to the test site in a week. That means we need to be finished here by Friday."

"That's simply not enough time and you know it!"

"I agree. But for once, my hands are tied," Wright responded.

"Just like they were tied when the cloaking device on the Pegasus wasn't ready? How many crewmen died that day?"

"Rick ..."

"Trevor, I know that you objected to the hurry up job that they did to test that cloak. Well, the stakes are higher now. More lives are on the line. We need to get the effects of the TechEx down to no longer than a couple of weeks."

"And we will. For now, though, we have to go with what we got."

"Why?" Rick asked.

Wright shook his head, "It's ... it's ..."

"What? Political? Is that what you're trying to say?"

"Yes! That's exactly what I'm trying to say!" Wright was yelling at this point. "The device will be ready to test in two weeks and we're have five more devices ready to go in the next month! Do I make myself clear, Commander!"

Rick just starred at Wright.

"Commander!"

"Perfectly!" Rick finally shot back.

Wright sat down, rubbing his tired, old face.

"I'm sorry, commander. But right now, we do not have the luxary of time. We test when we're told to test."

Rick remained silent, holding his anger back.

Wright stood and headed for the exit.

"Anyhow, I'm hoping that Starfleet can confine the use of the devices to as many military-only targets as possible," Wright said. "I know it's wishful thinking, but what else do we have."

Rick didn't respond.

"Can I get you a coffee or something?" Wright asked.

Rick shook his head and Wright then nodded before leaving Rick alone to simmer down.

[USS Chimera] SD 240911.19 | Joint Log | Richard Sharpe & Chloe Merau | "Wedding Plans"

=/\= Starbase Unity =/\=

Chloe sat at Richard's computer at his desk. It was early still in the day, but wasn't rushing because she didn't have a duty shift that day. She was looking over the preprogrammed list of clothing in the database. More so, she was looking at wedding dresses. As much as she liked wearing a Starfleet or marine uniform, she didn't want to get married in one.

Richard came out of his specially constructed walk-in closet, which contained his personal weapons collection, as well as his clothing and personal effects. He was polishing one of his best dress shoes as he walked into the sitting room. “Hard at it?” He asked, as he leaned against the doorframe, using a brush on the shoe.

"I’m thinking programming my own design into the computer." Chloe said as she moved from photo to photo of dresses.

“Just remember you’ll be in public, in front of Captain Rojac, so as tempting as it is, no bikini-dresses. Okay?” Richard said, chuckling.

"Oh, ha, Richard." She said turning to look at him with a raised eyebrow. "The idea hadn't even crossed my mind." She said rolling her eyes.

“Oh, that’s a shame.” Richard said. “You have such a lovely body when its barely clothed… perhaps a Betazoid wedding? I wouldn’t need to polish my shoes and brass buttons if we did that.”

"Yes, a betazoid wedding for two humans." She gave a laugh. "Sounds very traditional."

“Sure, why not? Saves the hassle of ripping your clothes off later.” He grinned wickedly.

"If I’m spending so much time finding the perfect dress, I would kill you if did that." Chloe said, looking at him serious. She always hated it when her clothing got ruined in anyway. "So don't you dare even think about it." Chloe gave a sigh. "I want a beautiful dress Richard."

“And you can have any dress you like.” He said. “But bear in mind you’re only going to wear the damn thing once.” He began brushing his shoe again. “Also bear in mind what you’ll be wearing under it.”

"That's not the point, Richard." She said shaking her head. She doubted he would get the point. "Since I was a little girl, I always wanted to have a beautiful dress when I got married." She said turning to fully look at him. "Im only going to do this once, and I want it to be perfect."

“So the man who is on his second wedding, obviously has no understanding of a woman’s desire to have her dream wedding? When his first wedding was effectively a shot-gun wedding aboard the battle-bridge of a Nebula Class starship, in duty threads, with a heavily pregnant fiancĂ©e?” He said, sourly.

Chloe sighed, standing up to cross the room to him. "That's not what I meant at all, Richard." she said softly, resting a hand on his cheek.

“So you don’t think I want you to have your dream wedding?” He asked, looking at her. “I mean, its bad enough I’m not exactly your dream husband, I wouldn’t want you to not enjoy the event.”

"Richard, I only take what I want. If you weren't what I wanted, I wouldn't be standing here now." She said calmly. "I wouldn't have a ring on my finger now, if you weren't what I wanted." She gave a soft sigh, but looked in his eyes. "Why do you think your not my dream husband?"

“How many women dream of walking down the aisle to a man twice their age, who has battle scars on his face.” He sighed.

"My dream has always been to get married to a man that loves me." she told him, all honesty in her face. "The man before me loves me."

Richard leaned in and kissed her tenderly on the lips. “Well, I wouldn’t spend hours polishing the shit out of my uniform for just anyone.” He grinned at her.

"Oh, of course not." She gave a laugh. "How could you think that your not what I wanted?" She asked again serious.

“I don’t know, just nagging doubts.” He said. “I just can’t believe how lucky I am to be marrying you…”

"It goes both ways." Chloe said softly giving him a quick kiss. "Do you want me to show you one of the dresses I like?" She said trying to cheer him up.

“Its bad luck to see the dress before the wedding.” He said, smiling. “I want the first time I see your fantastic dress is when you’re floating up that aisle tomorrow. When I get to hold you hands, and admit my love publically, and then hold you and kiss you as my wife… forever end of days.”

"Alright then. You will see what I choose tomorrow." She said warmly. "Do you know where Sarah is?" She asked curious.

“Probably out shopping, if I know her.” Richard said. “I’m sure she’s looking forward to seeing what bridesmaid dress you have in mind for her.”

"I was thinking..." Then stoped. She was going to have Sarah's dress match what she had chosen, but she didn't want to give anything away to Richard. "It's going to be a surprise for her just as much as it is for you." Chloe said, teasingly.

“Cool.” Richard said, smirking. “Just don’t put her in red. She can’t stand red for some reason. Personally, I think it makes her look fantastic, but she disagrees.”

"No, no red." Once the dress Chloe was thinking about had a little of blue in it, she planed on putting Sarah in blue with a little of white so she would match the bride. "But good you mentioned it just in case."

“Just making sure that the ceremony is memorable for our getting married, not the bride being murdered with her own bouquet by the bridesmaid.” Richard said, grinning.

"Have you talked to the captian yet?" She hoped that Richard had.

“I had a word with him.” Richard said. “He seems somewhat willing, considering we’re imposing on his R&R.”

"And besides Sarah, anyone else?" She was currious to see if Richard wanted anyone else there. Chloe could care less.

“Well, Patrick will be there, of course.” Richard said. “I can hardly get married without the best man.”

"Of course." Chloe said, taking his hand. "Anyone else in particular? I don't mind if we keep this small or big." Chloe said giving him a light squeeze. "And where?"

“Well, the where is easy, the lounge aboard the Chimera.” Richard said. “As for who comes, I’ve decided to leave that up to you, as all my family will already be there. You, Patrick & Sarah are all the family I have in this universe.”

"That sounds fine with me." Chloe said, a smile on her face. "Just something small and personal." She liked it that way.

“Well, you’d better get back to picking your dress.” Richard said. “and I will see you, on the Chimera.” He kissed her forehead.

"Alright, love." She said with a warm smile on her face. She was starting to get nervous about the next upcoming several days where she would get married and they be off on a honeymoon with her husband. this was all new for her and she was excited for it.

With that, Richard went back into his closet, grabbing all the parts of his dress blues he’d need for tomorrow, and exited his quarters, to go get set up in the guest quarters he’d been given temporarily for the wedding.

After Richard left, she went to go sit back down at his desk. Fliping threw a few more pictures from the replicator database, finally stoping at one. She found the dress that she wanted and it was beautiful.

"She sees things differently because again, she's not an officer, and also she's your daughter." She said turning him to look at her. "Sarah and I have something in common, but I am not going to try to stop you as much as I want to. I wouldn't want you to do it to me, so how would it be fair if I did it to you?" She knew all to well that he would ask her not to, but that wasn't the issue right now.

“You realize that once you’re pregnant, I am going to do it to you.” Richard said, warningly. “But I admit, I’d like to have Sarah around to keep you company, and help you out if I’m not around.”

"Im still not so sure how Sarah likes the idea of me becoming part of the family." Chloe said cautiously. "I don't want her to feel like I’m replacing her mother." Chloe wanted to have a good relationship with Sarah, but it couldn't be forced. "Also how would she feel that she wasn't the baby of her father anymore?" Chloe was very confident that she would become pregnant soon after they were married.

“I think these are questions for Sarah, honey.” Richard said. “But its too early to tell, she’s only just met you.”

"I just have this feeling that she's not thrilled." She said softly, her voice was level again and no longer raised only having a hint of how she had been upset earlier.

“Probably isn’t, but that’s not going to stop us getting married.” He said.

"Would you still marry me, even if she told you not too?" There was a slight panic in her voice. She knew that he wasn't easily swayed by other's opinions, but it was his daughter on something much more personal.

Richard paused for a moment to consider this, after a while he said. “Yes, I think I would.” He said. “I’m adult enough to make my own choices. I accepted her choice to be a lesbian, even though I thoroughly disapprove of her girlfriend, I accept it.”

"For me, go talk to her?" She urged. "She was a little upset that you locked yourself up in here." She said softly. "Just go tell her you love her when I make us some dinner?"

“Alright.” He said.

"Im not disagreeing that he isn't." She easily recognized the tone she was using. "But it doesn't matter if it's his job or not. It's what he wants’ to do, and he's not going to be easily stopped." She said softly. After a moments pause, Chloe tried to give a soft smile. "Im going to let you settle in." She said with a nod before she turned to leave. She went to Richard's study, letting herself in but stopping in the doorway. "May I come in?" She said, pleading on her face.

“You going to lecture me on my duty too?” He asked, somewhat more fiercely than he probably meant to, but he was angry. He was polishing his cavalry sword, his back to the door.

"No, Im not." She moved into his study, letting the doors close behind her. She didn't want Sarah to hear their conversation. "I've learned that it's not going to change anything if I 'give you a lecture' or not." She said firmly, not phased at the moment by his tone. "But I do have something to tell you." She was going to be heard, she didn't care what mood he was in.

“By all means, carry on.” He said, not looking up from what he was doing.

"Damn it Richard, Im trying to talk to you!" She said, her voice raising a few levels.

“And I’m listening.” He said, evenly.

"No your not." She didn't want to nag on him about duty as an officer, she wanted to talk to him about something else, but still a duty in a way.

“You would be amazed at my abilities to listen to you and polish my sword…” He said, and then put the sword down. “But if you prefer, I won’t.”

"How long is Sarah going to be staying?" She asked, wanting to know how long the father wanted his daughter to stay vs how long the daughter thought the father wanted her to stay.

“As long as she wants.” Richard said, again evenly.

"She's leaving right after the wedding Richard.” Of course that wasn't what Chloe wanted. "She thinks that's what you will want." She went on, she was getting flustered, Richard having his back turned to her didn't help. "-Richard-" She said his name with meaning, her voice strained. She wanted him to look at her, give her some sort of response.

Richard just shrugged. “Depends, doesn’t it. Is she going to keep going at me about my duty, and are you going to back her up?”

She moved around his desk, standing behind him she softly put her hands on his shoulders. "No, Im on your side." Her hands rested on his shoulders, "I hate it when you leave, but I know it's part of you and I know that if I did stop you how much it would hurt you inside. And I understand that."

“But you’d rather I stayed here, in an office, ordering men to die without being there to prevent it?” He said, firmly, putting a hand on her hand.

"Yes and no." She said softly. "It's hard for me when you leave. It wouldn't matter where you left to, or what you were doing." Her voice seemed to be calmer now, but still had a sharp edge to it.

“And how do you think I feel about you?” He asked. “With me, I’m usually behind the lines, with you, you’re in the thick of it, fighting death itself. How do you think I’d feel if something happened to you?”

"But there isn't more to my position. That's all my job entails... Your different." She said with a sigh. "But I said I was on your side... Because I know how it feels to want to be out there in the thick of it, I know that it's what you crave. That's why Im not going to tell you no, and Im not going to make you stop." She said, her hands softly squeezing his shoulders.

“But you want me to, don’t you?” He asked.

"I want you to be happy." Sarah's words drifted threw her mind. "I understand because Im an officer too... But Sarah doesn't." She said, this was what had brought her in to him. "Sarah doesn't understand, and I doubt she will." She said softly.

“No, I don’t want her in the fleet.” Richard said. “I already told her I don’t want her in the service. I’ve lost a daughter and a wife to this service, I won’t loose another.”

"That's not what I mean Richard. I honestly don't see her following your footsteps in that way. She just isn't willing to accept that being in the thick of things is part of who you are. She's just as worried about loosing you as I am." Hoping that he had calmed down some, she lightly put pressure on his shoulders in effort to turn him to look at her.

“She lost her mother in action, and her grandparents brought her up believing it was my fault that she died. I was only reunited with Sarah when she was 13, and she hated me at first, but eventually grew to accept me, and then became concerned that she’d loose me as she did her mother. I’m not surprised at her fear, but her betrayal hurt me.”

"Her betrayal?" Chloe asked softly, wanting to understand what had happened between him and his daughter, the girl- the woman who would be her daughter too.

“She went around behind my back to Admiral Sha`mer, to tell her I was fighting on the front lines instead of doing my job. I got into a lot of trouble over that, and I was very hurt that she did it.” Richard said.

“Like that’s ever stopped you.” He said, eyeing her carefully. “You have a clothes addiction that cannot be controlled.”

Sarah grinned. “I’m like that too. I love to try on new clothes and stuff.”

"My problem is I make him buy them after I try them on." She said with a soft smile. The conversation with Sarah seemed to be going alright so far, making her more comfortable with Richard's daughter. When the lift finally did stop, she gave Richard a warm smile, then the same for Sarah before Richard and Chloe led her to their quarters.

Sarah followed them down the corridor. “So you’ve softened my dad up, have you?” She asked. “What about his annoying habit of going into combat when he shouldn’t? You stopped him doing that yet?”

"No, I haven't." She said, giving Richard a sharp look. It was something that still annoyed her. It was one of the things that still really bothered her. Of all the bothersome habits he had to have, that was the only one that really struck a nerve on her. That was obvious in her tone and expression.

“Uncle Patrick has been trying to keep Dad out of combat since he made Colonel, but he always finds ways of being involed.” Sarah said.

Richard meanwhile, was wearing an expression of pent up anger. A vein was pulsing on the side of his head, and he was deliberately walking faster than the women. He’d let go of Chloe’s hand and was a good distance away from them.

When Richard let go of her hand to walk ahead she knew that he was upset. She gave a soft sigh, she shouldn't of let him know how it still bothered her. It hadn't been the time or place. Chloe's hands went behind her back, softly clasping together. Giving a nod to Sarah's words, she started to realize that Richard's almost always companion Patrick seemed to have a long history with them.

"It won't happen." Chloe said softly after Richard had gained some distance away from them.

“It should.” Sarah said to Chloe. “He’s not as young as he thinks he is, and he’s going to get himself hurt or killed. On the last mission he did on Enterprise, he nearly died!”

"I am well aware of that, Sarah. We both met on the Enterprise, and that wasn't long after our involvement started." Chloe was more than well aware of what could happen to Richard, especially when he tended to choose the most dangerous missions to go on.

Chloe was thankful that they had caught up to Richard who was waiting for them at the door to their quarters. Sarah had only voiced something she knew well enough, but the fact that she had voiced it only made Chloe loose some of her cool. Sarah surely was well aware that he wouldn't stop going on missions unless he physically couldn't. And Chloe wasn't going to stop him either, she knew it was apart of him, even if she wasn't so fond of that part of him.

Chloe's cool was temporarily lost, and she wouldn't look at either Richard or Sarah when they arrived in front of her's and Richard's quarters.

The door opened and they entered the shared quarters. Richard walked on purposefully, and showed Sarah the spare room. He then disappeared off into his private study, closing the door behind him.

Chloe watched Richard's movements very carefully, but decided to let him cool off for some time before she went to talk to him. "How long do you plan on staying with us?" Chloe asked as she leaned on the doorway of the guestroom.

“A few days.” She said, as she tossed her bag on the bed. “I’ll stay for the wedding, and then head off after. Dad won’t want me around after the wedding.”

"Why do you say that, hon?" Chloe asked curious. She didn't want his daughter to feel like she was unwanted, even after the very awkward situation moments ago.

“That situation we just had, isn’t new.” She said. “He’s gone in his study, hasn’t he?”

Chloe didn't answer, she already knew. After some silence, she finally spoke. "Yes, he did."

“He’s going to be in there, brooding.” Sarah said, opening her duffle up and starting to take out clothes. “Uncle Pat and I have been fighting him for five years to act his rank. Unfortunately for uncle Pat, he’s still Dad’s subordinate, so if Dad says drop it, he has to. I however, was not bound by his rank, and I went to his last CO.”

"You shouldn't of done that, Sarah." Chloe knew very well that being active was apart of him. She would tell him that she didn't like it, but she wouldn't stop him. "It's part of him and you can't take it away."

“His own subordinates disapprove. Why do you think they send him staff who can do his job for him. They’ve given up trying to reign him in, but I wanted to try. I’d only just got my Dad back, and I went to Admiral Sha`mer, and Dad found out. He was furious. Sent me back to my grandparents.” Sarah said, sulking a bit.

"Your not an officer, Sarah. You don't have that strong *need* to be active." She told her, trying to help her understand. If Richard told her to stop being active, she would be upset just as he was now.

“But he’s my dad!” Sarah said, in a tone that sounded exactly like her father. “They made him a General so that they could keep him in an office! Its not his job anymore!”

Richard entered the sitting room, tugging his jacket down, straightening his ribbons and looking at himself in the mirror, admiring the effect his uniform gave off. With two stars on both shoulders, he felt impressive. Turning to look at Chloe, he couldn’t help but be aroused at her wearing that snug fitting jump suit. “Ready?” He asked.

"As ready as I can be." She said looking up as she closed the old fashioned book setting it on the coffee table. She gave him a once over look as she stood up. Moving to him, she tweaked one of the ribbons on his chest that he hadn't noticed that was out of place. "Better."

Richard took Chloe’s hand, and together they walked out of their quarters and down the corridor. “I’m looking forward to this.” He said, grinning.

"When was the last time you saw her?" Chloe asked as they walked into a turbolift. She knew that Sarah had grown up with her grandparents mostly.

“Two years ago, on Trilista Colony.” He said. “She’s been living with her lover for the past year though.”

"I think you mentioned before that she's not straight. But she seems so young to be in a serious relationship." She mentioned as the lift started to move them down.

“Happens whenever, really.” He said, as they stood in the lift.

"Not that I was much older, only by a few years, when I met you." She said in agreement with him. The turbolift doors opened, keeping her hand in his as they walked down the corridor to the correct docking port. There was already a small crowd of people there, like Richard and Chloe, waiting for people they knew to disembark.

Sarah Sharpe made her way off the ship, carrying with her, her duffle bag as she walked down the airlock tunnel. She was looking forward to seeing her father again, after nearly 2 years of him being on active service. She was secretly thrilled that he’d found someone, but at the same time, very sad that he’d replaced mom with someone else.

As she made her way out, she spotted her father standing at the back, holding hands with… someone who didn’t look much older than herself! Was that Chloe?! “Daddy!” She exclaimed, running at him and hugging him tightly.

Richard hugged Sarah back, smiling; “oooh my little girl!” He said, holding her tight. After a moment, he released her and turned towards Chloe. “Sarah, this is my fiancĂ©e, Chloe Merau.”

When Sarah's arms went around her father, she dropped Richard's hand allowing him to properly hug his daughter. She kept a warm smile on her face. Indeed, Sarah didn't seem much younger than she was, but again it wasn't an issue between her and Richard. "It's a pleasure to meet you Sarah. I've heard so much about you." Chloe was a very friendly person, so it wasn't hard to meet Sarah, but the fact that there could be some strain, she was still very unsure again.

Sarah walked over to Chloe and put her arms around her. “Its nice to finally meet you too.” She said. “The woman who stole my father’s heart.”

Chloe wanted to tence at first when Sarah's arms went around her, but she quickly relaxed returning the heart.  "It wasn't something easy to steal." She said after she moved from the hug.

“I’m sure.” Sarah said. “Dad’s been like a marble statue since mom died.” She said. “Or at least, that’s what I’ve been told.”

"He was very much like that when I met him." Chloe said, somewhat awkwardly. She didn't want to cross in to an uncomfortable topic. "How was your trip here?" She asked, trying to change the topic.

“Uneventful.” Sarah said, as the three of them moved away from the airlock. Richard was taking the sensible course of action where women were concerned, something he’d learned a long time ago, keep his mouth shut.

“The Westmoreland is a better ship to travel on than the last few I’ve been on.” Sarah continued. “I think they call it a Nebula class, this one retrofitted for transporting people in reasonable comfort. The crew call her the Westland Bus Service.”

"Yes, I've heard it called that." She said with a smile as she slid her hand back into Richards. "Would you like us to show you around the station, or would you rather head back up to our quarters? We have the spare room set up for you."

“I’ll trawl the shops later with Dad’s credit card.” Sarah chuckled, teasingly. Richard’s hand tensed in Chloe’s, wondering how his poor pay account could cope with two women.

Starting to lead the way back to her's and Richard's quarters, she gave a soft laugh. "I tend to do that too.... just I make him come with me." She said, too teasing Richard when she felt his hand tence around hers. She gave him a soft reassuring squeeze.

“Oh, you are mean. Daddy hates shopping.” Sarah smiled. “I remember him following me around on Trilista, and how much he hated it. He’d make Uncle Patrick take me, but that was foolish, as Uncle Patrick is such a softie.”

When they walked into the turbolift, she called for their deck before turning her attention to Sarah again. "It keeps me under some restrictions, then Im not tempted to buy as much." She said, looking to Richard because he had been silent for some time.

Chloe stood in their bedroom back on the Unity. She was working on unpacking their bags from their time on the Padassa... she hadn't realized how much they had actually collected during their time there. Although, it seemed like she had been the one who had done most of it. Much of her belongings had leaked into his bags.

Dressed in a fitted t-shirt and levi shorts, she softly moved about putting their things away. Her stomach gave a soft growl... she couldn't remember the last time she actually ate something. After she got everything put away she decided she would get something from the replicator for Richard and her to eat.

Richard arrived back at their quarters, looking somewhat strained, but with a very happy expression on his face. He’d just had to endure a grueling debrief with Admiral Guzman, who had seen fit to tear him a new one for putting himself in danger. However, on the way back, he had received some mail, and he came bouncing into their quarters.

“Chloe! You here?”

"Bedroom." She called out to Richard, still having a few things to put away. She stoped to look at the doorway between the main living area and their room. Something odd was in his tone of voice.

Richard appeared in the doorway, a massive grin on his face. “Guess what?” He asked.

"What?" She asked curious, her face easily showing that. She had no idea what had gotten him into such a lively mood.

“I’ve gotten a reply from Sarah, she’s on her way here. In fact, she’ll be arriving in about 4 hours, considering the date of this letter.” He smiled.

Stopping, she set down the clothes she was about to put away back onto their bed. "Four hours?" She seemed surprised that it was so soon. She was more than a little nervous than meeting Richard's child for the first time. Moving to him, she kissed him on the cheek. "That's wonderful..."

“She’s dying to meet you.” He said, a broad smile on his face. “A little nervous about having a step mom who is only seven years older than she is though.”

"Im a bit nervous myself actually..." She said as she went back to putting their belongings away. "Im not so sure how she will like the idea of having a step mother at all..." She knew if she was Sarah, she might not like the idea of someone taking her mother's place, let alone taking some of her father's attention.

Richard walked over and took Chloe up into his arms. “You’ll do fine.” He said, smiling at her. “Sarah’s great.”

"Of course a father's going to say that." She said amused. "But how will she feel about some of your love being put on me?" She had no idea how Sarah would react to her, even if Richard said that it would be a good reaction.

“Well, we’ll find out.” He said. “Oh, and she might try and hit on you.” He said, warningly, as he let her go.

"That's one of my least concerns, Richard." Chloe said, rolling her eyes before she finished putting their things away. "I don't see any reason to get her guest quarters when she can just stay here in the spare bedroom..." Chloe said as she put their bags away.

Richard nodded. “I thought we could meet her at the airlock, show her round, etc.”

"Do you know what ship she's coming in on?" She said finishing up any last of the tidy up chores that she was working on before she stopped to look at Richard.

“The Westmoreland.” Richard said.

Going to Richard's desk, she activated the computer to find the ETA of the ships arrival. "They seem to be coming a little ahead..." She said with a glance to Richard. "The ship will be at docking port 4 in roughly an hour..." She had nerves growing in her stomach. She could fly a fighter and come inches from death, but this made her nervous.

“Well, we’d best get ready to meet her then.” He said, heading into the bathroom to have a shower and a shave.

"Do you want me to get you a clean uniform out or do you want something casual?" She asked, hoping to get a little insight of what she wanted to wear as well. They didn't have duty until the next morning so either would work.

“Well, she usually sees me in uniform.” He said. “I wonder if she’d freak if I turned up in casuals…”

"I will get you a clean uniform..." She said standing up from his desk, pushing him off toward the shower. "She has enough to 'freak' over at the moment with out adding more to it." She said, lightly shaking her head.

Richard had his hot shower, and a shave, tidied up his hair and left the bathroom wearing a towel. He made his way over to the bed where Chloe had laid out his grade A USMC style uniform. He smiled, as he got dressed.

While Richard had been in the bathroom, she had taken the time to change into a causal pilot's jumper. It was a one piece black outfit, having extra padding at her knees and elbows with a fabric that had a light shine to it. Currently she was sitting on the sofa, a book in her hands. Of course she could of tidied some, but that wasn't her nature.

[USS Chimera] SD240911.17 | Duty Log - QM | GSgt S'hae D'Belzen | "Parts, Supplies and Materials"

= Cargo Bay 2, USS Chimera C =

S'hae was standing in cargo bay 2 working on organizing the recent drop off of parts, supplies and other materials that the Chimera needed. The NCO's in the operations department were mainly Marines with a few Navy Squids but they all were hard workers and knew what needed to be done. "Marine be careful with that box." S'hae shouted at a group of 4 Privates moving a replenishment of phaser emitters.

Nodding they continued moving them up against one of the walls where they would be moved to the weapons bay later after all the crates, boxes and other holding devices were all checked and logged into the computer. S'hae was standing up on the balcony where she was able to keep an eye on everyone and also get live updates of the incoming supplies. "Gunny!." A Corporal shouted from below.

"Yes Cpl?" S'hae asked looking over the railing to where the young Cpl was standing.

"All supplies have been checked and logged into the computer permission to start transferring supplies to proper locations?" The Cpl asked.

"Go ahead Cpl." S'hae said knowing that this would take a couple of days to get everything where it needed to be and she would personally go and see the CEO and let him know that the parts that he asked for finally arrived. "Cpl I want all ship weapons moved first and then all medical supplies second and then you choose after that." S'hae said.

"Aye Gunny." The Cpl said starting to organize people into groups the nice thing about the cargo bays was that they had freight turbolifts that would get them to any part of the ship which made moving the bigger things much easier.

With all of that done S'hae headed out of the cargo bay and to her new small office to write a report that would have all the supplies they received and where it was going. Once that was done she would then go explore the ship and get used to her new settings.
