OOC: Was meant to go in earlier this week, sorry for the delay!
= Crew Quarters =
It took Natalia a few minutes to find Rojac's temporary quarters. The
starbase wasn't as large as Bragg, but it was still partly under
construction and some of the computer's directions were a little
inaccurate, leading her to end up first at the Infirmary instead of
Rojac's room.
She pressed the chime and waited for Rojac to call for her to enter.
When the door opened she stepped inside and smiled at the face of her
CO. Although she'd been back to Unity during the mission on the
Rapier, she only once got off the ship and didn't have time to see
Rojac. He still looked exactly the same, if a little beardier. The
four pips on his collar also made a slight change, making him somewhat
older, if only because of the high rank.
"Commander." Rojac nodded from behind a mug of black coffee and a
desk. HE motioned to an open seat in front of him.
"It's good to see you again," Natalia said as she sat down in the
chair. "I'm sorry I'm late. The computer gave me wrong directions and
I ended up at the Infirmary. Commander Summers helped me out."
"Yes." Rojac agreed. "I didn't hink the arboretum was the tactical
labs last month either. Hopefully Engineering have that straightened
out soon." He turned to the replicator and pulled out another cup,
which he slid over to Natalia. "So how did command suit you, Natalia?
Did the mission go well?"
Natalia nodded her thanks as she took the cup. "I enjoyed it," she
replied. "The mission went very well. I expected that we might run
into some trouble, but everything went according to plan."
"Excellent." Rojac replied. "The network will be invaluable in our
defense strategies. Lets hope we can maintain it." He took a sip,
relishing the bitter flavor for a moment. "So, do you think you can
revert back to second in command? The Chimera should be arriving this
time tomorrow."
She smiled and looked at him. "Of course. I'm very eager to see the
new ship. I've heard
she has some interesting features onboard."
"Benefits of recieving an R&D ship, I suppose." Rojac replied before
taking another sip of the dark and warm liquid. After a sigh, he
placed the cup back onto the small desk to get down to business.
"I have a feeling I have a lot of reading do," she said, thinking of
all the backlogged reports from former and new Chimera crew. "To catch
up with what the crew have been up to." Suddenly remembering what
Colonel PontBrillant told her, she looked serious. "PontBrillant told
me about Rick." The news had come as a great surprise to her. She
couldn't help but think about their time together on the HubBub and
how MaiKai and Rachel must be feeling.
"I have signed on a new Chief Engineer, one LtCmdr Curtis Scardona who
I know from my days on the Dark Horizon project." Rojac told her.
"He's a good engineer, and I think he'll do fine. I am however
requiring that Kroitzer be his deputy, with the sudden loss of
Commander Rodgers, I'm sure the team there will be craving some sort
of solidarity. Not to mention, Kroitzer is a hell of an engineer in
his own right."
"That he is," she laughed. "He's got some remarkable and creative
ideas. I'm sure he'll have a field with the new ship. Are you giving
him a promotion with the deputy position?"
"I am promoting him to full Lieutenant Junior Grade and removing the
acting status." Rojac replied to her question.
Natalia nodded as thought about some of the other positions that
needed to be filled. "If I'm correct there are still three department
head positions that are open; Tactical, Medical and Science? Any ideas
who you want to put in there?"
Rojac furrowed his brow and brought his hands close to his face. "All
the good tactical officers have been reassigned due to the war, and my
standards seem to be quite high. The cadets coming out of the academy
lately seem to... eager." He sighed. "They think of war as an
adventure." He paused for a moment, then shook himself quickly back to
reality. "If we need to, we can place Dexter at the tactical console
for a while. Lt Frankie Delano can run the department, but he's not
cleared for bridge duty. For science, there's a rather intriguing
efrosian officer named Lt Xindi Ra-Zerphimi. He seems a little
eccentric, but his records are solid."
"Sadly, I don't know when MaiKai will be able to return here for duty.
Or if she will." Rojac said. He looked up to Natalia.
She sat back in her and brushed her hair behind her left ear. "It's a
difficult position to be in, I'm not sure what MaiKai will do. My
guess is she would probably want to stay with Rachel. It would be hard
for Rachel to lose parents again."
"That it would be." Rojac responded, remembering how Rick had found
the little girl hidden aboard a freighter in the antigonis system that
had been raided by the Breen. The entire crew aboard had been sedated
by a noxious gas and was brutally slaughtered. Rachel was the only
survivor.
"Maybe Commander Summers can recommend a good doctor who can fill in
temporarily."
"Yes. Maybe." Rojac crossed his arms. "See to it, Commander. I'm sure
with her being a former Chimera CMO herself that she will know a good
officer for the job."
"Yes, sir," she replied with a nod.
"One more thing." he handed her a padd as she stood. "We launch on
Friday. This is the crew listing. I need you to put together the duty
roster; alpha, beta, delta and gamma."
"I'll get right on it," Natalia said as she took the padd.
"Thank you, Commander." Rojac replied. "Glad to have you back. Dismissed."
