=Main Engineering, USS Chimera-C=
"Dammit Jenkins! Why hasn't that power imbalance been corrected yet!?"
The Chimera's new Chief Engineer was not happy. With only a few hours left until the official send-off of the Chimera, Curtis Scardona was still waist deep in the usual problems faced by a brand spanking new ship. And his new staff was bordering on incompetency. A simple power imbalance in one of the EPS conduits was taking much too long to fix. And he didn't have time to babysit these greenbacks. He had to get into a clean dress uniform for the send-off. He sighed and wandered over to the console where Jenkins was struggling with the problem.
"Move over, Ensign. Watch what I'm doing here."
He accessed the main EPS controls and then used an override code to open up its main test menu. He proceeded to correct the power imbalance, diverting the extra power to where it was needed. When he was done, he handed a blank PADD to the ensign, exasperation in his voice.
"Make sure you remember how to do that. Now, check the rest of the EPS manifolds and get a report to me by the end of the day."
After an extremely curt acknowledgment from the ensign, he looked at a nearby chronometer. Damn, he thought. Curtis walked into his office and gathered his things, leaving one of the older Lieutenants in charge until he got back. He wasn't looking forward to the ceremony in the least. In his mind, it just delayed his inevitable discovery of all the bugs that were laying in wait within the ships systems. With another sigh, he exited Main Engineering and headed back to his quarters.
