Gustav was heading to Unity's Medbay facility clutching a PADD telling
him to report at once for a scheduled physical exam, he had been lucky
enough to get away with not having one since he arrived on the Chimera
– B, he had been ordered to the starbase's facilities because the new
Chimera was still under staffed.

Stepping through the Medbay doors he handed the PADD to a passing
nurse who looked at it and pointed him in the right direction.

Seeing someone behind a desk working Gustav cleared his throat to get
her attention.

"Yes?" the woman asked, looking up at him. " You have a cough?"

"Umm no….I'm here for a physical exam" Gustav said to the med technician.

"Well why didn't you say so?" she asked. "You're in the wrong
place..you want S4..this is S5....round there and second on the
right." She returned to her attention to her work, dismissing him by
the action.

Gustav followed the tech's advice and ended up in a waiting room, he
took a seat and started reading some news casts that were sitting on a
small table in the middle of the room, only looking up when he heard
someone enter.

"Lieutenant Kroitzer?" Rangi enquired from the doorway and gave a
welcoming smile" Please come this way." She said and stepped back into
the examination room, waiting for him to follow her.

"Aye Ma'am" Gustav said following the Commander.

Recognising her from his first away mission he asked "Hows the foot Ma'am".

" Fine now thankyou." Rangi replied, recalling the incident he
referred to when he had dropped a heavy weight onto her foot. " No
permanent damage." she said but her expression
told him she was joking. "Please take a seat on there." she said,
indicating the bio bed as she picked up a med padd.

"Yes Ma'am "Gustav said taking a seat on the bio bed.

"How is Martin doing? " he asked Rangi.

"I played tag with him, Mimi and Rachel on the planet after the crash"
Gustav explained after seeing a quizzical look on Rangi's face.

"Ahh..I see. Thankyou, he's very well...settling into regular school
classes now and enjoying them. So...are you suffering from any aches
or pains? Have you noticed any
problems with your hearing or sight? Is there anything at all that is
now or has since our last medical check, given rise for concern?"

She had accessed his medical notes as she reeled off the standard
questions but looked at him as she ended them.

"Nothing really, just the same old pain I get occasionally in my left
shoulder…. but that's always been there" he said not expecting any
treatment for it.

Gustav wondered how to word his next question but he couldn't think of
anyway to say it without it sounding to clinical, so he just went
ahead and asked "and hows Rick doing…. err I mean Commander Rodgers".

Rangi said: " Just lie back please, make yourself comfortable." and as
he did so, she looked up at the overbed display that settled into a
steady readout. She added notes to the medpadd but obviously nothing
of great importance for it only took a few seconds. She took up a
medtricorder, adjusted a setting and hovered it above his shoulder,
looked at the result, considered them for a moment then met his gaze.
" He's no longer on the base." she said, wondering what rumour he had
heard. " Can you please raise your left hand and touch my fingers?"
she asked holding out her arm at a good height above him.

Gustav raised his left arm touching Rangi's fingers "I heard that he
had been attacked and he was in a critical condition…. But I didn't
know he had been moved off base" he said a little surprised that they
moved him so quickly.

"This wasn't the best place for him." she replied, adding something
else to the medpadd. She took the medtricorder again and did another
hover. " Could you sit up please?" she asked. " His condition needs
specialist attention." she said moving to the other side of the
biobed. He heard the humm of the tricorder. "... so he'll be away for
quite some time."

Sitting up Gustav said "oh… I see".

Turning the tricorder off, Rangi rounded the biobed again returning to
face him. " He was indeed attacked." she said".... and following that,
he's experienced alot of problems with his memory."

It was of course true. Rick was suffering problems with his memory in
that he no longer had one but the circumstances surrounding the attack
were classified. So she stuck to the truth, understanding that Gustav
wanted to know what had happened to the former CEO and knowing too
that he would probably pass the information on to other engineers.

Knowing that Rangi wasn't telling him everything or couldn't tell him
everything Gustav didn't press the issue anymore instead turning the
subject back to the physical.

"So what's the prognosis doc, will I live to fix a replicator again?"
he said jokingly.

She laughed. " Only if you can improve the quality of the coffee." she
responded." Apparantly it could be used for oiling a machine?" She set
the medpadd aside and spoke to him again as he got to his feet. " I'd
like you to go along to physio." She said, looking up at his six foot
height. " I'll send a report to Doctor Ross. He will be interested in
your shoulder I'm sure and has a nice little gadget to try out." She
smiled at him. " Thats all Lieutenant and congratulations on your
promotion."

"I wouldn't use it to oil the machinery Ma'am, and thank you I'll go
see Dr Ross as soon as I can" Gustav responded with a smile.

Rangi returned the smile and followed him to the door. As he strode
off across the waiting area she called " Ensign Launsteon please." and
stood back as the new patient approached, ushering her into the room
and saying " Please take a seat on there....."
