Vlimar looked through his department, as the routine started
to set up. Not the kind of routine that would decrease
efficiency, but the one that set up when you trust your
teammate and that everyone know what they are doing, what
they have to do, and, most importantly, what they have done.

Vlimar smiled to that view, as he was leaving his office.
Vlimar was heading to Shane's office, for the first time in
10 days. When he took the duty as Shane's 1st Officer,
Vlimar expected he would be daily with Shane, a little like
William Riker and Jean-Luc Picard. However, the life on SB
234 wasn't the USS Enterprise-D. It was a immense structure
that made nearly impossible to physically being in the same
room, with the same person, at the same time, unless
organized that way.

Vlimar arrived in front of Shane's office, as we said, a
smile on his face. The door was open, obviously Shane's aide
seeing Vlimar from the corner. Vlimar entered and nodded at
Shane, in the middle of his office.

====== Shane's officer, SB 234: UNITY
=====

"Good day Colonel" Shane called as Pont Brilliant entered
his office. Shane and Pont agreed on a every-other-day
meetings to discuss the newest events regarding the war area
that was under control of 1st Task force. Till now the task
force was holding … but was pressed on hard by Romulan
forces. The only luck was that the Romulans were focusing on
other areas as well and the area under Task Force control
was just a skirmish zone.

"Good morning, sir.", Vlimar replied. Vlimar walked towards
the leather chair in front of Shane's desk, where usually
Shane meets his senior office and waited.

"Please take a seat" Shane said while walking to the
replicator. "The usual?" he asked.

Vlimar nodded. "Indeed, sir. A cup of Chai Tea cannot be
refused...". Vlimar seated on the chair and put his briefing
notes in front of him, on the armrest.

Once both man seated, Shane leaned back in his chair and
said: "So Colonel, what are the news?"

Vlimar smiled. "Well, as you may be aware, the Delta front
isn't much of a concern anymore. Our forces are pushing
hard, winning most of the battles. There are still some
skirmish in the area, but overall, I am not too worry.", he
said. Vlimar took a sip of his tea and added: "On the other
hand... The Romulan are pressing hard on other points. We
have a new theater that was created, near the Gamma point.",
he added. Vlimar took another sip of his tea, then handed
Shane his padd. "All the details are inside, sir.", he
concluded.

Shane took the PADD and skimmed it over. He then looked at
Vlimar and asked: "Do you think we can send some ships
from other areas to strengthen gamma?"
Vlimar looked at Shane, then back at his PADD. He was
actually expecting that question. Vlimar showed a status of
the Delta front. "We have limited resources, as you already
know, but we can spare 2 vessels from Delta and one of the
backup line. However, this would be some sort of the last
resort, as we have no more reinforcements..."
Shane nodded:" I agree. This should improve the situation
there for a while, but I am concerned about the lack of
regular Starfleet forces in our area. Well … we were the
first who had to deal with the romulans and we held the fort
long enough. But for gods sake … fighting epic battles
isn't exactly what special forces should do … that's
regular fleet work."
Vlimar couldn't help but to nod in agreement. The lost of
SSF resources and logistic is diverting the SSF from its
principal goal. "We are still holding pretty well, despite
being outnumbered...", added Vlimar.
"Well, we've lost way too much ships lately." Shane handed
Vlimar a PADD and went on: "here are all causalities …
we've lost a lot of our smaller ships … what's not much
important in sight of firepower, but very important when
thinking of our capabilities as stealth force. I've talked
with SSF Command and we can't expect any reinforcements for
at least three months. Unless Commander Ohmsford tows the
old shipyard here and brings it online … we are on our
own"
"Well...", interrupted Vlimar. "I had reports that the
Commander is currently in the process of doing so, sir.", he
said. "We have a dispatched fleet who will enter in range of
the Starbase within a few hours", added Vlimar. Vlimar
grabbed the PADD from Shane's hand and put it on the arm
rest.
"Ah … that's great news, Colonel" Shane said with real
gladness in his voice. "The cavalry finally arrived. Who's
in charge of the fleet?"
"It's Admiral INSERT NAME HERE AS I DON'T RECALL, sir.",
added Vlimar.
Nodding Shane said, "Please prepare plans for pulling our
forces back from both the alpha and beta fronts. Once ready,
let's discuss them with the Admiral. I think he will stop
on the UNITY before deploying his ships"
"Understood, sir.", Vlimar replied, as he grabbed the PADD
and stood. "Permission to speak frankly, sir?"

"Sure, Colonel" Shane replied wondering a bit that his
Nr. 1 asked for such a permission.

"I simply would like to mention that, if case may require
it, I will be willing to take a minimal crew and use the
Captain's yacht for extra support, on the field.", he
mentioned.

Shane needed a moment to realize what was behind this offer.
Vlimar was basically saying that he was not happy to spend
all this time chained to his desk. It was a large desk,
decorated with power and responsibility, but it was a desk
nonetheless. It was not uncommon that Starfleet officers
were longing for action and the smell of 'deep space'
and that was obviously Vlimar's case as well.

"Thank you for the offer Colonel, I'll think about it. I
need the Qashqai to be mobile, but once Ohmsford gets the
ship yard online, maybe we can persuade him to build us a
vessel that would be assigned to you"

Before Vlimar could reply, the conversation was interrupted
by a comm. Call.

"Commodore, I am sorry to interrupt your meeting, but I
have a disturbing news for you" said the voice of
Shane's aide.

+TAPS+ All right, Lieutenant. What's the matter? +

"Commander Harbright was just murdered by one of the aides
of the Klingon envoy"

Shane looked at Vlimar and cursed: "Holy shit!"

=/\= Some Corridor on Unity =/\=
Alecto was walking back from the Blue Note Bar. She had to admit that the champagne truffle salad was very good and was made from real ingredients.  Alecto prided herself that whenever possible she would avoid replicated food.  Real food was far more pleasant and definitely tasted better.  She mentally listed all the tasks she had to perform before she left.  Rounding the corner she saw a familiar if deathly pale looking face.

{I need to rest and soon.}  Mnemosyme walked down the corridor concentrating on just placing one foot in front of the other.  {I'll rest here for just a moment.} She leaned against the wall and closed her eyes.  {Rest for a minute and then file my damn report.... and then.... hopefully ... I'll be able to sleep.}

"Well I figured that would take a lot out of you.  But I couldn't tell how much.  How bad is your current state Lieutenant?"  Alecto said with some concern.  She could see that the healing action had been damaging to Lieutenant Nyx but whether that was temporary or permanent damage was another thing.

{I had hoped nobody would come along.}  "I'll live," she responded out of habit then letting on how vulnerable she could be right at this moment be known.

"Probably, but the real question is for how long?  I've seen energy transplantation done before and I know that it almost killed the healer even though she is one of the most powerful telepaths in existence.  The question is how long would a mundane like yourself last?"  Alecto answered bluntly awaiting a reaction.

Nym pushed away from the wall, but said nothing.  She gave a small shrug and began making her way to her destination.  "I have reports to fill out," she finally offered.

Alecto gripped Nyx's shoulder with a force that it didn't really require.  "Not giving the correct answer when an assassin asks a question isn't really smart.  Not giving any answer is considered disrespect and you don't even want to know what I did to the last person who disrespected me, so answer my question.  How badly did the energy transplantation affect you?"

Nym bit back the wince from the grip, "No disrespect intended; I just don't do well with personal sharing ... with very good reasons."  She sighed and pulled out of the grip to lean against the wall again.  "He had a lot of damage... not just from the poison... and I need a nap which I can't get until I fill out the reports."  {If there is one thing I've learned you don't admit to weakness in the presence of an assassin...especially when you feel like crap.}  "More than other times," is all she finally admitted to.

"And the damage temporary or permanent?  What species are you?"  Alecto asked curious about the answer.

"I believe my file says human,"  Nym answered as if it  was obvious.  She closed her eyes and tried to assess her own status and felt as everything inside was moving slower than a turtle...  or maybe it was slower than a snail.  She opened her eyes to meet the other woman's.

"Human's don't smell like you, they don't show up the same as you in the ultraviolet spectrum and they don't have glowing fingertips outside of a Speilburg movie."  Alecto stated.

"2nd Lieutenant Mnemosyme Nyx,  2801865223... I believe that's all I'm required to give," she turned shoved off the wall and started to walk away with a bit more speed then she showed before.

"Well definitely in spirit you're equal to the best humans I've met.  Do you require any help getting back to your quarters?  Although judging by the responses I've had so far I can imagine the likeliest answer." Alecto responded without walking after her.

"No... I'll be fine," she answered over her shoulder, "thanks."

"Well stay safe Lieutenant.  The world isn't a safe place for unique individuals any more and the front lines even less so.  Beware of those who would seek to abuse your gift."  Alecto turned to leave on her original route.

{Don't I know It...} Nym thought as she continued down the hall.

Sitting in her chair with her feet crossed on top of the desk top; Athena looked at the ring on her finger.  {Why can't I remember...  Why did Rangi have to remind if indirectly that I can't remember?}  Her thoughts wonder for a few more moments before she sighed and let her feet drop to the floor.  She took a deep meditative breath and stood to retrieve Rangi and her glasses from the stand between the chairs.  She took them and recycled them and sat back down and began typing.

To: Captain Cropa Rojac
From: Commander A. Wellington

RE: Commander Summers

In a recent meeting with Commander Summers, I became a bit concerned.  The focus of the meeting was not on her recent illness but even when it was briefly mentioned it remained brief and seemingly unimportant.  Although I do not think the Commander unable to fulfil her duties, I do find it odd that a statement made about her department not working at top efficiency is some how more important.  Again I should mention that this is just a concern of mine.

She leaned back in her chair not exactly sure why she felt compelled to share this information with the captain, but some how it seemed right.  She thought about the others that should be having counseling appointments and worried a bit about them.  Part of their recovery should be to contact her department for at the least one session... but they were supposed to contact her.  She wasn't supposed to have to hunt them done like some great elusive prey.

[USS Chimera] SD 240902.03, Duty Log, Gunners Mate Crewman Theodosia

------------
Start Log
------------

Gunners Mate Crewman Theodosia looked as young as her rank would have suggested. She had short brown hair that was combed back behind her eyes, which had an unforgiving tendency to get very messy. From a distance it might have looked like she had brown eyes as well but a closer look would have relieved that they were a dark green. Her face was made up of sharply defined planes and angles dominated by a straight pretty nose (which in her opinion was the only pretty thing about her), her face was completely devoid of cosmetics. Theodosia had been told (once) that her face had "a severe elegance." She wasn't sure about that but the idea was certainly better than the dreaded comment of "My, isn't she, um, healthy looking!" Not that healthy was not accurate, however depressing it might sound. she looking fit and trim in the 'Fleets grey and black uniform, courtesy of her 1.25-gravity home world were her body had been moulded for the first twelve of her life and a rigorous exercise regimen, and that, she thought critically, was the best she could say about herself.

Most of the Fleets female officers and ratings had chosen to adopt a longer style of hair that could be tied back while on duty and then elaborately styled and arranged to the latest planet side fashion while off duty, but Theodosia had long since decided that there was no point trying to make herself something she was not. Her hair was practical, with no pretensions to glamour. It was clipped short to accommodate vac helmets and bouts of zero-gee. Besides, Theodosia did not want people to thing that she was trying to hide her Romulan eyes or brow with long hair, she had got used to the sideways glances and whispers during her two stints at the academy but she would not have people think she was ashamed of her heritage dispite what uniform she wore or the fact that her family and the rest of her home world had been branded traitors by the RSE. She caught a reflection of herself in the runabouts port viewing hole, and her thoughts were bought back from interstellar wars and politics to her image. No, she decided once more with a sigh and a familiar shade of regret, her strong boned sharp face was perfectly serviceable enough, but there was no use pretending anyone would ever accuse it of beauty… darn it.

She grined, feeling the bubble of delight pushing her image concerns aside, and her reflection grinned back, it made her look like a ruthless Romulan agent and as funny as that thought was to her she thought it best to wipe that look of her face, if only for the sake of the other crewmen aboard the runabout, but it was hard. Theodosia had finally graduated the academies enlisted training and then completed the academies advanced tactical course finishing twenty-first in her class of one hundred and thirty-two and for her reward she had been snapped up into the fleets Special Forces. But as gratifying as her SF patch was it had taken her the better part of two years to earn it. she knew a modern navy needed trained personnel not untrained cannon fodder, yet acquiring that training seemed to had taken forever, and she'd felt guilty as casualty reports flooded back to earth especially as she had been a second year cadet in the academy five years ago and dropped out. A frown crossed her face, If only she had stuck with it she would have been in the thick of the fighting from the beginning instead of sitting in a class room or a holodeck while the rest of the federation fought for its life, her frown only deepened when she fought of the dept owned by her people to the Federation. Theodosia took a deep breath, well she had shown in the academies ATC that she was a torpedo witch, despite the fighting she had missed she was sure she would get a chance to make her impact on the war. That though reignited the grin on face as the runabout docked with Unity Station.
