[USS Chimera] SD 240902.05 || Bridge Log pt. II ||

[Bridge - Deck 1 - USS Chimera NCC 96899-C]

"Fire at will." Came the order from the Captain, and his crew wasted little time in the leap toward action.

<<Natalia - issue the attack pattern.>>

"Aye sir!" Shouted the bajoran Lieutenant at the helm. The deftly took
the Chimera into full impulse with a head on trajectory toward the
port warbird inviting a retalitiatory formation. At the 500k mark,
when the warbird began breaking off course heading in a nosedive, she
executed a corkscrew maneuver, opening the target up for a blast from
the lateral phaser arrays.

Michael punched a few commands and locked on to the Romulan ship. It
was a small and fast class, but not one that Michael recognized. He
fired the arrays and scored a hit that did minimal damage to them. "A
hit on their dorsal section Sir, minimal damage. This ship is much
more maneuverable than most Romulan ships."

"Break off for second wave." Rojac ordered. "Commander Zerphimi, I
need a detailed analysis of that warbird!"

"I'm working on it, Captain!" The science chief responded. The usual
sing-song cadence absent from his demeanor. "Telemetrics are streaming
in: unknown class, seems to be a newer scout level design. Forward
disruptors, extra engine capacity, and a small fighter compliment."

The main job for operations in a battle was to keep an eye on about
everything that was going on from sensors, weapons, shields and any
communication frequency even of that of the enemy if you get lucky and
find out what frequency they were using. While she was running through
the communications that the Chimera was picking up either the ones it
was sending out to the fighters or picking up the ones from the
fighters.

On one of the lower level frequencies Jade picked up a Romulan signal
tapping a few buttons she saved the frequency and started working on
decrypting it once she got it decrypted she listened, "Captain you
need to hear this." Jade said, "it's an Romulan distress call." Jade
said.

"On audio." Rojac ordered. Almost immediately the universal translator
played the sound byte across the birdge. +....under attack. Requesting
immediate reinforcements from waypoint alpha. I repeat, Federation
forces have engaged. We are under attack...+ Static reconsumed the
message as the frequency rotated into its next progression.

"Romulans don't send distress signals like that," Natalia said instantly.
"I think it's a distraction, Captain."

Rojac didn't need to reply. The anger in his eyes said it all for him.
Reinforcements would undoubtedly be in-bound soon, leaving the Chimera
minimum amounts of time with which to narrow the playing field. He
knew just what to do.

"Plan B. Lieutenant Howard, arm two veteron torpedoes. Lieutenant
Reese, prepare to deflector for a shield disruptor pulse."

The two officers hastily aknowledged their orders and set about to
their preparations. Meanwhile, Rojac saw the warbird make a law
defying about face with it's disruptors glowing vehemently. Like a
dragon, green fire erupted toward the Chimera.

"Brace for impact!" Rojac shouted. He grabbed for the nearest handrail
as the blast rocked the underbelly of the new battleship. A few
officers were startled and sent to the floor, but quickly regained
their composures and reassumed their positions. "Report!"

"Minor damage to the primary hull!" Natalia called out as she read the
incoming damage report text scrolling on the screen of her console.
"Structure integrity at 98.5% and holding; shields down 5% in the ventral
section. No medical reports."

"Captain!" Zerphimi shouted from science. "Romulan battleships
in-bound. They will be in firing range in one minute and ten seconds."

"Veteron Torpedos armed, Captain." Howard reported.

"Good. Have torpedo one target their propulsion systems, the second at
their bridge." The Captain ordered. "We'll only get one shot, make it
a fatal one." He turned to Reese at the Operations station. "Reese,

cover that gap in ventral shields. Transfer deflector control to the
XO at aux tactical."

Reese nodded and started tapping away at her console she first
transferred the deflector control over auxiliary tactical, so that
Trzetrzelewska could deal with that while she worked with the gaps in
the shielding. It took a few minuets but she was able to get the gaps
taken care of, but she would need to keep a constant eye on it to make
sure the gaps didn't come back or that weapons fire didn't create
more.

"Deflector is standing by; shield disruptor pulse armed," Natalia

"Helm. Come in at their four o'clock, full impulse." Rojac ordered.
"Someone tell Xerxes to steer clear and divert those incoming birds."

"Changing course, Captain! Full impulse." The bajoran Lieutenant cried
from helm. Almost immediately the fleeing romulan scoutship grew
larger and larger on the vessel as the Chimera's powerful impulse
engines bore dwon upon her. "Deflector range in three... two...
one..."

"Engaging deflector pulse!" Natalia shouted as she pressed the button that
delivered the weapon. The ship shuddered slightly as a shockwave emanated
from the Chimera's dual deflector and collided with the Romulan ship. A moment
later their shields were down. "Warbird shields are disabled!"

"Fire Mr. Howard!" Rojac shouted.

Within miliseconds of eachother, the green glowing munitions deployed from the Chiemra's lateral launcers and impacted their target with carnal ferocity. Almost immediately the singularity drive and the "beak" of the new Romulan scoutship erupted into a visceral blast of vetron particles sending a shockewave into the shields of the passing USS Chimera. The bridge crew was blinded momentarily by the fierceness of the blast, but quickly regained their focus upon Rojac's next words.

"Helm, bearing zero-nine-four, mark one-two-seven." Rojac ordered.
"Let's take down these battleships." Rojac said. He hoped that the
security teams on the outpost were fairing as well as the Chimera.

[USS Chimera] SD240902.05 =/\= Duty Log =/\= Lieutenant Colonel Vlimar PontBrillant =/\= "Status Reports? What?"

=== Vlimar PontBrillant's personal quarters ===

Vlimar approached Captain Picard, shaking his heand.

"It is great to finally meet you, Colonel!", Picard said. Picard, holding his earl grey tea cup with his other hand, showed genuine happiness and was smiling extensively. Vlimar wasn't sure how to respond to it, but returned the smile to Jean-Luc, and replied: "Well, I should say the same, Captain!".

Picard sat in the command chair of the USS Enterprise E and looked at his right. "Bien, je devrais dire que cette chaise vous irait bien, Colonel!", replied Picard, gesturing the XO chair. Vlimar looked at the chair, nodded and sat in it. Vlimar's smiled widened as he realize the honor he was subject of. "The honor is yours, Colonel", added Picard.

Vlimar smiled, stood, did the Picard Manoeuver (tuking his shirt down) and said: "Engage!". At that very same moment, Vlimar heard a loud banging at the Ready Room's room. Vlimar turned his head shiftly to the left... and saw his quarter's wall.

Vlimar was dreaming. For the first time in... oh, well, a very long time. Not that Vlimar had trouble sleeping or anything like that, simply that Vlimar wasn't a dreamer. He was usually going to sleep, then waking up, hours later, with nothing in between. Seconds after opening his eyes, Vlimar heard again the banging on his door, this time, coming from his quarter's door.

Vlimar shook his head, and got up from his bed. He looked at the chrono, which indicated 0422. He slowly walked to the door, shaking his head, wondering who the hell did not realized there was a chime just by the freaking door. {This better be good...}

Vlimar opened the door, and saw the face of Lieutenant Ruel, a member of the Operations team. Ruel looked at Vlimar and said: "Oh, did I wake you, sir?"

Vlimar felt his blood hurrying up in his face. "It's freaking 0422 hours, Lieutenant.", he replied. The Lieutenant looked at Vlimar amazed, obviously thinking it was the end of his own world. But, Vlimar took a depth breathe and replied. "It's fine, Lieutenant. Apologize my mid-night bad behaviour. What can I help you with?"

The Lieutenant took a pause, reassessing Pont's apology. "Well, we just received a status report from the Chimera, on the Alpha front.", he said. "They engaged two warbirds and currently their Security Department is securing the outpost.", he claimed.

Vlimar looked up, yawned. "Do we have any supporting unit for the attack?", he asked. The Lieutenant looked down on his PADD, then back up at Vlimar. "I dunno...", replied the Lieutenant.

"Are you kidding me?", Vlimar said. "You are supposed to be Shift Supervisor. Send the D'Artagnan, they should be in the area by now.", he added.

The Lieutenant nodded and walked away. "Lieutenant, next time you wake me up, asking me to do your job, I will not calm down.", coldly replied Vlimar.

As the Lieutenant walked away, Vlimar returned to his quarters. He looked at his bed, realizing there was no point to go back. He was on shift in about 2 hours. Vlimar walked to the replicator, asking for a tightly pressed espresso. Waiting for his drink, Vlimar yawned again, then his eyes opened widely. "The Chimera is under attack!", he said.

Vlimar ran out of his quarters, heading to the Operations room. His brain basically just connected the dots.

=== Strategic Operations Deck ===

Vlimar entered the deck, took the first available console and monitored the Chimera. He sent a message to Shane's personal console to advise him, not knowing if he was up or not.The Operations crew looked at Vlimar sitting at a console, in civvies, then resumed their work. They felt pretty good seeing the boss sitting with them, as concerned as they were.

[USS Chimera] 240902.05 | Tarangor Mission | Duty Log, Cdr Rick Rodgers

=U.S.S. Jameson=
=Tarangor System=

A few minutes earlier, the Jameson arrived at the coordinates Rick had suggested.
It was the area Rick believed that would find the NX Detector, which had been set
adrift decades ago.

As the Jameson searched the vicinity, Rick sat quietly at the end of a long table in
the captain's ready room/small conference room looking over data he had transferred
over from the shipyard. The information was vast and the technical specs were
plentiful. There was a lot to read on the Detector, that's for sure, but there was one
file that file that Rick focused on. It was the one file that Rick was unable to access.

"Damn," Rick muttered.

"Problems, commander?" the Jameson captain, Grey Richards, asked from his desk.

"There is a file here that encrypted," Rick answered. "We have access to everything,
except this one file. Not know why."

"What is it?" Richards responded.

Richards was between seventy to eighty years of age. He had long since retired from
starfleet years ago, going on to run his own freighter repair business in civilian life.
When the war began, though, he had returned to his old command on the Jameson.
His hair was white, as was his mustache and beard. Richards reminded Rick a lot of his
own father.

"A section of the ship," Rick said. "Near engineering. Where torpedoes stored on a
Defiant-class today."

Richards pulled up the file on his own computer.

"The only thing I get is a name," Rick said. "A Trevor Wright."

"Trevor Wright, you say?"

"Yeah. Have you heard of him?" Rick asked.

"I have," Richards said, leaning back in his chair. "He was perhaps one of the most
brilliant engineers in the history of the Federation. Simply put, he was a genius."

"Starfleet?" Rick asked.

"No, he was a civilian. Probably considered himself too intelligent for starfleet. Even so,
he was behind some of the greatest achievements in starfleet history, and maybe even
some of starfleet's biggest disasters."

"Like what?"

"Have you ever heard of the Pegasus Incident?" Richards asked.

"Yeah. That was starfleet attempt at developing own cloak device. Instead, ship
materialized within asteroid. Highly controversial since it violated Treaty of Algeron."

"Well, Wright was one of the main people behind that cloaking device. He arguably
played the biggest role in its development."

"Why I not heard of him before if he so accomplished?" Rick asked.

Richards rubbed his chin through his beard.

"He preferred to be a behind-the-scenes type of person. He didn't need, or really want
recognition since he already knew he was brilliant. He didn't care what anyone else
thought of him. It helped when it came to the Pegasus Incident since a number of
people's careers were ruined. Wright, on the other hand, came away clean since no
one could really prove his direct involvement."

"How do you know of him?" Rick asked.

"I've been around for a long, long time," was Richards' only response.

Rick wanted him to elaborate, but decided against it.

"Could this encrypted file be another cloaking device?" Rick asked.

"Maybe, but I doubt it. Wright didn't stay on one thing for too long. He got bored easily
and would have likely gone on to another project. He has worked on anything from
trans-warp drives to advanced transporters in his day. Many of his achievements we use
today. Others ... well, they turned out to be like that cloaking device screw up."

Richards stood from his desk and looked out the window at the colorful view of the nebula.

"Some say that there are technologies he developed that remain a secret to this day,"
Richards continued. "He won't tell because he died about 20 years ago."

Rick looked over another set of files.

"It say here that he worked at shipyard for several months. Even so., he not officially on
their crew roster."

"He wouldn't be. That's how he worked. Sorta like those guys in Section 31 that are not
suppose to exist. Trevor Wright just chose not to exist."

Rick focused back on the Detector specs.

"Why so many sensors?" Rick asked. "Why divert away from weapons?"

Richards turned to face Rick.

"Well, as I'm sure you know, the first test runs of the original Defiant showed that the
weapons overloaded the ship's systems. They were believed too powerful for the design.
That was a fear from the very beginning of the ship's concept."

The old captain returned to his desk.

"There was a point where they considered giving up on the Defiants as an offensive vessel.
Now, they were not going to give up on them completely. After all, they had already built
a number of hulls and the ships were quite maneuverable and fast. So, if the Defiants
couldn't be used for attack craft, they came up with another use."

"A scout ship?"

Richards shook his head," No, no ... more than a scout ship. The belief was that the
Defiants could go a lot further into potential enemy space without being detected. With
these changes, there was nowhere in either the Alpha or Beta Quadrants these Defiants
could not go. I'm sure you can understand the implications."

Rick thought for a moment.

"A spy ship."

"That would more accurately describe the idea," Richards nodded. "That's why starfleet kept
the idea quiet. The Klingons, Romulans, Cardassians and just about everyone else would
have been pretty pissed off.  They were OK with the Defiant as it ended up being because it
was designed to fight the Borg. And the Borg were a threat to everyone. But with these
proposed changes, it would have been little use against the Borg and more of a threat to our
neighbors."

"I ... I did not about any of this," Rick said.

"Few did," Richards said. "Thankfully, Ben Sisko and his people were able to work out the
kinks and now the Defiant-class is a formidable fighting ship."

+tap+ "Bridge to Captain Richards."

+tap+ "Richards here."

+tap+ "Sir, we may have found something."

+tap+ "I'm on my way. Richards out."

The old man looked at Rick with a grin.

"We may have found your ship," Richards said. "Lets go take a look."

Rick nodded and followed Richards out onto the bridge.

[USS Chimera] SD: 240902.04 Unity NPC Log Rowan(Child)

=/\= Docked Transport from Aeren III =/\=
A small muddy figured peeked out the opened door where fresh fruits and vegetables had just been unloaded.  She watched as all the busy figures inspected, directed, examined, searched and moved people and crates in all kinds of directions.  She slipped from the craft she had snuck onto and to the docking deck floor.  She moved in the shadows of the stacked boxes and crates.

She was able to make it to a long hallway by blending in with the legs of the adults that paused before moving down the corridor.  At the end of the hallway she peeked at a new hub of activity that both excited and confused her.  Noticing a nearby plat she moved from the shadow that she was engulfed in and hid behind it to watch all those that seemed to rush from once place to another.  There were a few who sat at tables but they never seemed to stay very long; many leaving partially eaten food and half drunk drinks behind.

She watched as a rather large man sat down at one of the tables nearest to where the others were walking.  She admired his gold and black uniform.  She licked her lips and swallowed as he sipped at the drink in front of him.  She rubbed her hands on her pants rubbing as much dirt off the pants as her hands.  She rubbed her nose with the back of her index finger and then over her mouth with her palm-side of her fingers.  She watched as the last drop of liquid slid from the glass and into the mans mouth.  {I wish ... it was my last sip.  My mouth feels like cotton.}

She watched as the nice lady brought the fat man another drink and said something to him.  She watched as the balloon like head nodded.  Her stomach growled loudly and she looked around to make sure that no one else had heard and found her.  Satisfied that no one had discovered her hiding spot she turned her attention back to the table.  She noticed that the man hadn't touched his new drink yet and that he seemed to be talking to himself.  The nice lady was back and set a plate down with a round sandwich on it.

The man made a funny face and stood.  He looked at the plate in front of him and shook his head before walking off.  {OH... no} she thought.  Her stomach had other ideas and growled again setting her feet in motion.  Using the bags that people carried and the shadows they made she quickly made her way to the table.  She climbed onto the chair and carefully picked up the glass.  She took a sip and swished the sweet liquid around her mouth.  {Its fizzy} she thought as she swallowed.  She looked at the round sandwich and deeply breathed in the aroma.  Her stomach rumbled loudly and she blushed as she looked around at the others.  She lifted the top off the sandwich and noticed a slice of cheese and a leafy green.  It smelled warm and spicy.  She replaced the top and took a large bite.  She closed her eyes while she chewed savoring every flavor of the morsel in her mouth.  She quickly swallowed and open her eyes to take another bite.

With her eye open, however, she met the steely gaze of a man with a broad chest and a small scar under his left eye.  Her hands began to shake as she put the sandwich back on the plate.

"What is you name," came the deep throated demand.

She swallowed hard and her lip trembled as she looked down at the floor.  Her head slowly came back up as she followed his legs up to his waist and then the broad chest and then as he stood to his full height her head tilted back a bit as her gaze came back to his.  Her lips still trembled as she quietly said, "Rowan."
