[USS Chimera] SD 240906.26 | Quorum Space | Joint Log, Capt Chisulo (1TF Tac) & Maj Kinn (1TF Intel)

[Bridge - Deck One - USS Detector]

The beads of sweat on the Captain's forehead glistened under the steady blue lights illuminating the bridge - a visual sign to the bridge crew that they were currently under cloak in a very delicate operation. Major Giella Kinn, the Intelligence Advisor to First Taskforce at the moment, sat in the command chair amidst the tension. Being in command many times himself, Chisulo was proud that she wasn't biting at her nails right now. They were flying in close and undetected to a suspected Romulan controlled station behind enemy lines in a time of war. One mistake, on anyone's part, could result in the death of not only the entire crew, but also the prisoners aboard the station and millions of civilian lives in a retaliatory attack. Tedros did not want to see that happen.

Giella's cat-like eyes were narrowed and glued to the viewscreen, shining a deep dark amber that betrayed the tense feelings she hid behind her calm expression. The tense atmosphere on the bridge was palpable, but all the officers present were well trained to handle these kinds of pressures and they all knew what was at stake.

"Passive scan headed our way." Chisulo called aloud. "All hands hold tight."

A few tense moments went by with half of the crew afraid to breath. No one moved again until Chisulo sounded the all clear. Ship systems were kept to an absolute minimum. Impulse drives got them as close as 5000km to the station, and then were switched off so that the Detector could glide in on thrusters and inertia. Almost everywhere, except Engineering and the Bridge, were ket in the dark in an effort to reduce the small vessels signature to sensors.

"All clear, Captain." Chisulo referred to the Major in the customary title.

Major Kinn let out an audible sigh of relief. "Are we within transporter range, Mr Chisulo?"

"One more five second burst from port and ventral thrusters should put us within the search radius." Chisulo said. "I've also been able to pick up activity from their cargo transporter and I believe I can disguise our own transporters to transmit in a similar fashion to disguise our entrance."

"Good," Giella replied with a nod as she stood up. "Captain Chisulo, you have the bridge."

[Transporter Room - USS Detector]

Several minutes later, a team of sixth figures entered the transporter room, dressed from head to toe in black and wearing wearing dark goggles. They were a team of elite intelligence infiltration specialists, outiftted with latest hi-tech gear and technology and rated among the best in the Federation where hand-to-hand combat was concerned. Leading the group was the lithe form of Major Kinn, the only thing setting her apart from the rest of the team being her slight build and slightly feline manner of movement.

She waited for a moment as the team assembled around her, then nodded at them all. "Remember, the main objective is to discover the location of Commander Summers and extract her. Keep focus of that. All else is irrelevant. Once we have her, we will devise a secondary mission plan if necessary." She watched the silhouetted figures as they nodded. "Activate your recall devices and cloaking field."

Along with the team, Giella activated her recall device which would instantly transport her back to the Detector in case of an emergency, along with whatever she was holding at the time. The device worked differently than conventional transporters, routing the matter stream through subspace frequencies and making it nearly undetectable, but as a result was also very limited and had a maximum operating distance of 10km. It could also only be used once before needing to be reprogrammed.

She looked up as three of the six members of the team shimmered and then disappeared, indicating they ativated their cloaking field. The field bent light around the body and limited heat emission, fooling sensors and making the person invisible for all intensive purposes, similar to a ship's cloaking device. It could easily be detected by a tricorder scan however and prolonged exposure to the neutrinos emitted by the suit was hazardous.

Giella disappeared as she stepped onto the pad and soon it looked as if the room was empty. "Once we have transported in, we will go immediately radio silent," she told them, then tapped her badge. "Kinn to Chisulo, we are standing by. Ready to energise."

[Bridge - Deck One - USS Detector]

"Acknowledged." Chisulo replied, and quickly ran the transporter sequence. "Energizing."

The transporter buffers acquired the away teams signals and sent them into the deep bowels of Padassa Station. Once the sequence was complete Chisulo habitually looked up to see the station on the viewscreen. "Anything?" He asked.

"Negative." The young andorian said from the Tactical Station. "All station systems are running on normal parameters. No signs the transport was detected."

"Good." Chisulo replied, making his way to the command chair and waving the operations officer, a bajoran male, back to his console. To avoid suspicion, Tedros transported Kinn and her minions in one of the higher decked cargo bays. As close to their suspected target zones as he could without striking whoever was monitoring the sensor logs a odd. "And ship traffic?"

"No suspicious advances." The andorian again replied.

"Well then," Chisulo took the seat from which he commanded the battle of V'Tar III once more, "I suppose now we just wait." There was no need to try and track Kinn and her team; they same countermeasures that prevented them from being detected on the station worked the same magic on the Detector's systems as well. I was only if the countermeasures went awry, or if their transporter recalls were activated, that the Bridge crew would know it.

No, all Chisulo could do now was sit and wait.

[USS Chimera] SD 240906.25 || Personal Joint Log || Capt Rojac (CO) & Lt Dior (Helm) ||

[Captain' Quarters - Deck Two - USS Chimera NCC 96899-C]

"Are you done yet?" Came the call from the living room area of Cropa Rojac's quarters.  Rayna Dior sounded annoyed.

"No." Cropa replied. "But only a few more reports to read." He called back from the desk in the small corner of the bedroom that served as a second office. He and Rayna retired to the same room the night before after the Awards Ceremony, and a trip to the Bluenote on the Promenade. It was one of the best evenings the young Captain had enjoyed in a while - despite the fact he woke up at 0500 out of habit and began reading through the various reports.

"You said that half an our ago, Cropa." Rayna said, now standing in the doorway. "You know you're not supposed to work so hard on Shore Leaves."'

Cropa smirked as his darted his eyes over the top of the current padd he was reading toward the scantily clad woman at the threshold. She was wearing one of his button-up tunics that went down to the top of her well-toned and tanned thighs, a pair of sandals, and little else. Her dress uniform was still on the floor beside the bed. "Captains do not get shore leaves Not in times of war."

"But seriously," She wined, exageratingly, "0500!? That is ridiculous."

"It's 0900 somewhere." Cropa replied, turning his attention back to Lieutenant Jardan's summary of the prisoner transfer - his last report as the Chimera's Chief of Security before hurrying of to his next assignment on the battlefront. The Romulan and Breen troops had been escorted to UNITY's brig and were scheduled to be interrogated later in the afternoon. So far that had given little information: their names, ranks, and assignments.

Somehow, Cropa had missed it when Rayna deftly exited the room and didn't notice until she reappeared with a plate of breakfast in hand.

"Here, Capitan." She said in her best spanish accent (an accomplishment for a half-bajoran/half-betazoid), "grits, scrambled eggs, and sausage. A southern North American favorite."

"Oh!" Cropa replied in surprise. "Geez, thanks." He took the plate from her lender hands and set it down atop his desk. Se perched herself on the corner of the bed and studied him intently a she brought  spoonful of grits to his lips. He chuckled a bit a he realize she was staring, and after swallowing, asked her, "What?"

"What are you reading?"

"Lieutenant Jardan's last report."  Cropa replied, cutting off a chunk of sausage with the side of his fork. "All of the prisoner have been successfully transferred to UNITY's brig. Medical reported in this morning that all critical cases have been transferred to UNITY' infirmary in the quarantine unit. And Captain Reese and Lieutenant Kroitzer are taking care of the weapons transfer this morning."

"Wow." Rayna replied, "Even in R&R, this ship never sleeps."

"No rest for the weary, my dear." Cropa replied. "And as such, the newly promoted Major Xerxes has sent me a note this morning that she is leaving the station on a personal matter, and that she will be in-touch shortly."

"A personal matter?" Rayna asked, obviously intrigued.

"Precisely." Cropa replied. "Our beloved Major has many of those, and its best to respect her privacy. She has quite a temper."

Rayna smiled, "No doubt that's why she has so many kills on her flight record."

"No doubt."

"So what about our new Security Chief?" Rayna asked. "Have you ever met him?"

"No." Cropa replied, after downing a swig from his orange juice. "I've only read his service record. I'm supposed to meet with him this afternoon."

"Anything else on the docket today?" She asked.

"Well, only to meet with the Taskforce XO." Cropa replied. "The Commodore is off station."

"What time?"

"0900."

"Well, then that leaves plenty of time." She said, standing up.

Cropa looked up, questioningly. "Plenty of time for what?" He asked her as she approached him, reaching out her hand.

"For our shower."

[USS Chimera] SD: 240906.25 Duty Log, Maj. Anya Xerxes/Cmdr. Ariel Daveed, FOCO/CO

Anya staggered a little  as she took another swig from the bottle she had snagged from the ceremony.  Personally Anya would have preferred a spirit to the champagne she had obtained.  To be honest the ceremony as a whole had sickened her just a little.  Her commendation for destroying the Scorpion II Squadron was a fallacy.  In reality only one of the Scorpion II's was destroyed by her Lancers, her own to be exact.  However for the benefit of troop 'morale' and public relations it had been decided at the highest levels to exaggerate this small victory as an easy triumph of Federation Technology over Romulan Technology.  The truth was her squadron had been lucky to escape without a fatality, even as she thought this Second Lieutenants Sune Broda and Panar Lascor were ensconced in Chimera's Sickbay.

Lancer Seven, Second Lieutenant Sune Broda who flew the Lancer with the Copper Sheen paintwork was by far the more injured of the pair in sickbay with a punctured lung from a piece of debris during the furball with the Scorpion II's.  Likewise Second Lieutenant Panar Lascor had been injured in the furball with second degree burns to his left arm from a disruptor shot which had caused his comms panel to explode and go on fire, only the more advanced design of his flight suit had allowed him to continue to have a career in piloting fighters without having to resort to a prosthetic arm.

Anya knew she had to visit them at some point if not just simply to see how they were but also to explain what the 'Puppetmaster' programme was.  Due to their injuries they had been unable to attend the initial briefing on it...that hadn't been entirely true either.  Sune had tried to stay for the briefing, punctured lung and all even despite Anya's promise to fill him in later.  In the end in true Erassian fashion Anya had simply shot him with a phaser set to stun and had him beamed directly to sickbay.  Biting the bullet Anya decided to go and see them so to obtain a gift she entered one of the many shops on the Promenade. Picking up a box of beer and paying for it she exited the shop.

"Major Anya Xerxes I presume."  Came the deep voice.  Judging by the voice and accent it was a Male Human, middle aged and  probably of Middle Eastern descent.  She turned to see she was correct in her deduction.

"And you would be?" She replied without answering his question.  She analysed what she saw before her.  He wore a standard Starfleet uniform rather than the specialy designed SSF variants and it was the red of command.  The three pips signified he was a Commander meaning he was likely either a CO or XO of a starship if he was here aboard Unity.  Instinct more than anything else made her feel like this man was out of place.  He definitely didn't seem like one of Admiral LaGrande's men that was for sure.

He gave a slight smile "My name is Commander Ariel Daveed, Major.  I am the captain of the USS Jackal and I work for Starfleet Intelligence although at the moment I am seconded to JDC."

"This means you're calling on me why Commander?"  She said with a hint of force in her voice.  She didn't know this man and she most definitely didn't trust him, for all she knew this was a Romulan spy.  Her right hand fell to her hip but there was no conforting weight of a weapon there both the requirement of dress uniform for the awards ceremony and the stringency of Unity security had prevented that.

"I'm calling on you Major because higher powers have asked me to find you and bring you to them.  People above you in the chain of Command and far above your pay grade have need of your particular skills."  Daveed said acidly.

"Who in particular has need of a fighter pilot?"  Anya bit back.

Daveed gave a cruel smile as if he had sprung a trap.  "I said I was currently working for Joint Defense Command.  Who else could send an entire Ronin Class Starship on a mere escort run for a 'fighter pilot' that Admiral Kathryn Janeway..."

[USS Chimera] SD 240906.24 Joint Log, Cmdrs Ohmsford (1TF Sci/Eng) & Trzetrzelewska (XO)

= USS Chimera - Conference Room =

Bren was sitting in the conference room on the Chimera writing his report for Commodore Guzman while the Chimera was en route back to Unity. The trip would take them longer going around the Grand Banks, but ultimate it was safer than going through it. The Magellan was towing the Rapier back to Unity and couldn't pass through the Banks with the damaged ship. She was proceeding at a slower speed back to Unity accompanied by the Eagle while the Chimera traveled to ensure there were no undue surprises along their route.

The Chimera was almost halfway on its journey back to Unity, yet still there was no communication with the starbase. Science predicted that it wouldn't be too long before the Chimera was in range to establish a link with the 1st Task Force Headquarters.

Bren was looking forward to getting back to the base. Although the mission hadn't been particularly a physically tiring one, it was stressful and he wasn't accustomed to overseeing such an important task group. But luckily thanks to the competence of the ships, their captains and the crews and the help of the Erassian Alliance the mission was a success.

He looked up from reading a report on a padd as the beeping of the terminal signaled that they had come into communications range with Unity at last. Accessing his personal inbox he watched as a stream of messages were downloaded from the nearest comms relay. He was about to open the first one when the chime to the conference room sounded.

"Enter," he said and looked towards the door as Commander Trzetrzelewska entered.

Natalia had just finished the report she had been working on about the away team she took to the Rapier as well as the events that took place on the Sabre class ship.

"I've brought you my report, sir," she said as she walked towards the table and held out the padd towards him.

"Ah, thank you Commander," Bren said as he took the report and quickly looked over it. "Please, have a seat. I understand you knew Commander Telson?"

Natalia sat down in the empty chair Bren indicated. "Yes, sir. Not very well. We attended some Academy classes together and spent some time over R&R together."

Bren nodded and sighed. "It's a shame to lose such a capable Starfleet officer... and a good human being. What's your assessment of the Rapier's current status?"

"I think she will be good as new after a few weeks in the Aeran shipyard," Natalia replied. "I'm not sure about the command situation, a replacement for Commander Telson will have to be found of course. Lieutenant Dacour is very capable, but I don't think she has enough command experience yet."

Bren nodded again, taking note of what she was saying. He attention was drawn away by a beeping on his terminal announcing an urgent message from Task Force Command. At first he wanted to ignore it to continue his discussion with Natalia, but then saw it was Priority 1.

"Excuse me, just a second," he said as he opened the message.

Natalia nodded, and picked up the padd with her report while Commander Ohmsford read his message. She glanced over what she had written, going over key points she wanted to mention to him. When she looked back at him, she saw his face had gone deathly pale.

"Sir?" she asked. "Are you all right?"

Bren paused a moment before replying. Clearly the shock he felt at the news was showing on his face. It was every person's fear that something should happen to the one they love, and for someone in his situation it was an everyday possibility. Yet that possibility never prepared anyone for the time when it did happen. What made it worse was that the message was sent weeks ago and that he only received it now. Perhaps in a way it was a blessing in disguise; he probably wouldn't have been able to focus on the mission otherwise.

It seemed surreal as he thought about it, and slowly the realisation of what the news meant began to sink in. Liev was MIA and it had been discovered that a Chameloid had impersonated him. A Chameloid... for how long? A Chameloid that had seamlessly integrated itself into Liev's life, taken up his position without anyone notice, his personal life. Bren had shared a home with it, shared a bed with it...

The realisation of it all suddenly made him sick to his stomach. "I'm sorry," he said to the Chimera's XO as he pushed his chair backward and stood up, closing the terminal in front of him. "Please excuse me," was all he said as he hurried left the room.

Natalia was surprised and felt slightly discomforted. She didn't know Ohmsford all that well, but the calm and orderly demeanour he'd displayed during the mission suddenly seemed to have disappeared. Either he was feeling ill or something he'd just read had made him feel ill. Given the way things were currently, she suspected it was the latter.
