Cortez was at the back, Castillo had point and Williams was behind
him. As they moved through the vent Castillo came to a halt and a
message came relayed back. Castillo proposed that Cortez take Williams
around and into the cargo transporter area whilst Castillo would go
and create a diversion outside of the room to draw attention away from
the other two.
It was textbook, but luckily the guards watching over the cargo had no
idea they were coming, which would undoubtedly work in their favour.
Cortez passed his approval down the line, after all he had the final
say in such matters. Once they were good to go Castillo carried on and
Cortez and Williams continued on an alternate route around the bay and
hopefully to a Control Center where they might actually be able to
lower the shields and have their weapons beamed onto the Chimera.
They moved quickly but with caution, vents like this had a tendency
to make noise and give away your position to anyone who happened to be
passing by below. As they came around they found themselves looking
down on the staff who were in the transporter room. Two clerks and a
couple of soldiers.
Cortez held his breath as he waited. "Come on Lieutenant." he mussed,
waiting for Castillos diversion, and soon enough it came, as he
thought he heard a vent collapse out in the main hall and he could
only hope that Charly hadn't just killed himself.
Soon enough the sound of yelling filled Cortez's ears and everyone bar
the two clerks piled out of the room. He waited a moment for the door
to close before he took out a laser torch and began to cut away
quietly at the holdings on the vent hatch. Once they were cut he held
the mesh in his hands so it didn't fall and used his hands to signal
to Williams to drop down and take out the first clerk.
Two seconds later he lifted the hatch again and dropped down. Almost
as soon as he had landed the second clerk tried to jump towards an
alarm button but wasn't quick enough and after a little bit of
grappling was quickly tied up with the first.
"Alright" Cortez said and walked to the transporter controls. "We
don't have long, according to this", he said taping away at buttons,
"our crates are located here", he continued on.
He took out his tricorder and placed it atop of the console, starting
an interface. Once it was set up he was amazed at the lack of
restrictive protocols set up, but then he figured that was arrogance
on the Mumacik's part, assuming nobody would make their way past the
defenses.
Scratching his head he realized an extra crate was mixed in with his
15, "not enough time to isolate them all", he muttered and had the
entire 16 crates including the extra beamed onboard the Chimera where
a few men were waiting for it.
Thankfully nobody had come into the room yet, and becoming
increasingly aware of the time he folded up his tricorder and stepped
towards the door with Williams. As it opened he looked down the hall
and saw Castillo being handcuffed by a group of station security. He
was howling something about rank and the dirt on his sleeve, which
made Richard chuckle. "Guess he miscalculated the room" Williams
uttered under his breath.
Nodding, Cortez touched the badge on his chest, "Three to beam out",
he said and just as quickly, all three men, including Castillo were
beamed off the station and back onto the Chimera.
Cortez quickly headed away from the transporter room and straight
towards the security offices and the armory. Upon arriving he was
quickly approached by one of his men, "Sir, all 15 crates are
accounted for and are currently being unloaded", Richard nodded, "But
we seem to have an extra crate sir".
Cortez already knew this, "Yes I know, just beam it back onto the station".
"You might want to hear this first", the Sergent stated. Cortez
nodded his approval.
"Records are showing that it belongs to a Major General Richard
Sharpe. It contains some old weapons, looks likes personal effects".
Cortez stopped. "Oh shit", he muttered. "Well then", he suddenly
smiled, "Have it beamed into the Good Generals quarters", he paused,
"Attach a note, 'A little gift from the Chimera - Cortez'."
"Yes sir".
"We may need a little rank in our corner if all this goes to hell",
the Major continued.

Cortez sat at his desk, brooding almost, he was tired bored and really
not in the mood for any shit from anyone. The security staff on board
had run their training programs and he'd been evaluating them on their
actions, as of yet he hadn't participated in anything more than
co-ordinating between his Deputy and the rest. Deciding on a surprise
inspection he stepped outside his office and moved towards the armory.
The clerk immediately jumped to attention as Cortez stepped into
view.
"Have the weapons arrived yet", the Major asked. For some reason the
entire contents of the ships armory had been offloaded onto the
starbase when it had arrived. Something about long overdue
repairs/upgrades.
The clerk responded quickly. "No, sir, I am actually working on that
now, it seems that the Stations Security Chief is holding them up,
he's saying we don't have the proper clearance".
Cortez shook his head. "Carry on", he added and turned to leave. The
ship was due to leave soon and not having a fully stocked armory would
be a very bad thing indeed. He would have to deal with this himself.
It didn't take him long to find his way to the Station CSEC's office
and trying to be nice he patiently waited for the yeoman to announce
his presence and let him into the room.
The number of security issues rose sky high in the last week and
UNITY's security was busy like never before. Not everyone liked the
sudden increase of work, but since the Chief was assigned by Admiral
Guzman himself, there were not many places one could hand a complaint.
Cortez was shown immediately into a large office, which looked very
tidy despite the large number of PADDs there. It made the impression
that each PADD contained a security case that has not been yet
*properly* finished – and it was the truth. From attempt murder down
to fork (cutlery) stealing, all open cases were concentrated in this
office.
Richard entered and was amazed at how clean the place was. No matter
how much he tried he wasn't sure he could ever replicate the same
level of tidiness in his own office, especially with the workload of
being a security chief. He took a few steps into the room and
immediately noticed the man behind the desk.
Mumacik nodded, stood up from his chair and walked over to Cortez
saying: "Good day, Major Cortez. I am Lieutenant Mumacik, Chief of
fleet level security. How can I be of assistance?"
"Well I seem to have a problem", Cortez began, "The USS Chimera's
armory is empty, and I'm being told that you are the reason". He let
a small smirk edge to his lip.
Turning around, Mumacik made two steps and reached for a certain
(among all those 94) PADD and took it. Turning back to Cortez he said:
"You are correct, Major Cortez. We have 15 crates labeled as personal
weaponry, assigned for USS Chimera in our security cargo bay. Because
of the advanced level of that weaponry, only the Chief of Security
from USS Chimera in person can sign the delivery. I have a Marine
Captain Channer Davis listed here as the recipient.
"Davis is no longer Chief of Security, I am", Cortez responded hoping
this would be a simple fix. "I will sign for the delivery".
Mumacik shook his head: "Unfortunately, there is no such change
recorded in the roster of USS Chimera." he said. Skimming through the
PADD he added: "I have a Major Richard Cortez listed on the transfer
roster for USS Chimera, but no record that he has assumed his position
yet." He looked up at Cortez again and said: "Therefore it's still
Marine Captain Channer Davis only who can sign the delivery"
Cortez grew annoyed. "Well then your records are wrong, change them,"
He said bluntly.
"The standard procedure is" Mumacik said in his usual machine like
tone, "to identify yourself to the main computer of vessel or
installation you are assigned to and declare yourself assuming the
position. In some cases the agreement of CO or XO is required to
complete the procedure. Only then you are officially part of the
requested crew and holding the requested position. Did you do so,
Major Richard Cortez?"
Richard rolled his eyes. Being talked down too by this guy was not
helping his mood. "Listen Lieutenant", Cortez said looking at his
rank, "All the proper procedures were completed; it's simply your
records that you have failed to update. I suggest you contact your
superior officer or whomever it is that you need to talk to so that
this can be resolved".
Mumacik nodded: "Your request is noted, Major Cortez. I will contact
Captain Rodgers shortly"
"Well if that's how its going to be", Cortez nodded. "I'll be back
for my weapons soon". He then turned and left just as quickly as he
had entered.
Like nothing happened, Mumacik turned back and walked to his desk.
There was a lot of other work and once he will contact UNITY's XO, the
case was closed for him – until a superior officer will order to
release the weapons or Major Cortez will present the required
authorization by becoming (officially) Chimera's CSEC.

====== Dining hall, Starbase Padassa, Quorum
space ======
The relation between the Klingon forces and Shane as rank
highest Starfleet officer on Padassa was not very good. For
Shane's part, he would just ignore it, but since other
Starfleet forces would arrive on the sector within 48 hours,
he could not leave the matter unattended.
The problem was Shane's unwillingness to share Warrior
feasts with the Klingon Commanders. He was not ready to show
his courage in a battle contest, nor was he willing to
listen to songs of glorious battles. That earned him a
slight despise by the Klingon Commanders.
Being an ex-TAC officer, Shane developed a plan how to
change the current status. He needed a few resources and it
took almost 12 hours to deliver them to Shane. In the mean
time, Shane memorized a few Klingon phrases, since he knew
that knowledge of Klingon words (and insults) will play a
crucial role in his plan.
It was usual routine for the Klingon officers on board
Padassa to gather for a common meal in the main dining room
and Shane choose just this place to perform his plan. As
usual, he was escorted by two security guards and upon
mid-day (local time) he entered the dining hall. As
expected, it was full with Klingons, inclusive Captain
MoQes, who served as the Klingon force leader until a proper
ambassador will arrive.
Walking inside the hall (with a small package in his hand),
Shane called: "Captain MoQes, I need to talk to you"
"SoHvaD pagh vIjatlh, tera'ngan!" [I have nothing to say to
you, human!] said MoQes and turned back to pay attention to
his bowl.
"bIjatlh 'e' yImev verengan Ha'DIbaH" [Shut up, Ferengi
hound!] Shane called to the sitting Klingon. The hall went
suddenly quiet. All present Klingons looked at their leader
and waited for his reaction on this insult.
MoQes remained silent and stared at Shane. True to his plan,
Shane motioned his two guards to stay behind and walked
erectly over to MoQes's table. He looked with despise at the
large bowl in front of the Klingon leader and said: "What's
this? You call this 'gagh'?" He swiftly took the bowl and
threw it behind. With a loud crash it fell to the ground and
shattered in many pieces, spilling the vermin like content
on the floor.
The situation was rather tense, but Shane showed no sign
fear. With a loud 'thump' he placed the little package on
the table and unpacked it quickly. The content of the
package was a duranium bowl full of still alive reddish
vermin. "THIS" he shouted, "I call a gagh". Without any
marks of hesitation, he took a hand full of alive vermin and
put it into his mouth, devouring them with (at least it
looked so) passion.
After what seemed an eternity, MoQes started to laugh. For a
few seconds only the sound of his laugh was to hear in the
hall, but suddenly all other Klingons started to laugh
along. After a few seconds MoQes shouted: "majQa' " [well
done!] and punched Shane in his chest. Only with luck Shane
remained on his feets and punched the Klingon leader back.
Suddenly it seemed that all bad was forgotten … since
Guzman showed courage and honour. There were not many humans
who were ready to eat fresh gagh and dared to insult the
great MoQes upon a meal.
======= USS Qashqai, Some laters
======
All green in face, Shane was vomiting. He felt rather sick
and the reasons were crystal clear. He never liked rough
food and that vermin food was of really bad taste. He was
lucky to leave the dining hall early enough not to show any
signs of his starting sickness. Arriving swiftly on the
Qashqai, Shane went immediately to his quarters. After
another dose of unprocessed food landed in the toilette,
Shane asked himself if the whole event was worth the effort.
