[USS Chimera] [Titan] SD240908.11 | Joint Log | 2LT C. Merau & 2LT R. Winters

Location: Officer's Mess, USS Titan
Time: Shortly after deployment orders were issued.

As soon as he was certain his men were squared away in their assigned bunkrooms on board their transport to Passada, Dick Winters had decided it was long past time for a hot meal. So after dropping off his gear in the quarters he shared with two other officers, the Lieutenant had made his way to the ship's officers mess. It seemed he had not been the only one with an empty gut, as the room was almost full to capacity.

Luckily a table became vacant right as he replicated his dinner of manacotti and veggies, so he gladly sat down and began enjoying his meal.

Chloe Mearu, also a 1st Lieutenant walked down the corridor that lead to the officer's mess. She hadn't eaten since the night before because she had woken up late and in a rush to get out the door she had forgone eating. Walking into the officer's mess not too far behind a man she looked around. She gave a light sigh at the fact that it was so full. She was knew to the Unity, not knowing anyone besides Richard Sharpe.

Going to the replicator she ordered a glass of water, pasta, and a salad. Looking around she saw one table that only had one occupant. The man that she had followed in moments before. Going to the table she gave a smile. "Would you mind if I sat here?" She asked kindly. She was a young woman, only 24, blonde blue eyed, and a pilot.

Giving into courtesy, Dick raised slightly out of his chair, "Please." He had never seen this woman before, but considering his short time on the station that came as no surprise. There were thousands on the station, and several dozen in this room alone, that he had never seen before.

"Dick Winters, Easy Company, Second Battalion," he said as introduction.

She gave a warm smile. "Chloe Merau, Pilot, 92nd "KnightHawk" Squadron, 36th Tactical Wing, 501st Air Group, 1st MEF," She said with a tweaked smile. It was always a hassle now to say what group she belonged to. She took a seat after she introduced herself to the man.

"A pleasure to meet you," Dick replied before forking in some of his own pasta. A moment later he continued, "So you're a stick jokey? I assume you'll be providing company for our landing craft?"

"Funny." Chloe said with a smile. "I'm more than just a stick jockey." She said with a light laugh. Before she joined the Unity she was aboard the Enterprise, before that a experimental test pilot in Sector 001. "Have you been apart of the crew long?" She asked curious.

"Less than a week, actually," commented Winters before taking a drink from a glass of chilled water. Not only had he not been assigned to Easy Company for any amount of time, but he had only been out of Quantico for a matter of weeks. "Just over two days, as a matter fact. You?"

She gave a soft laugh. "Ironically, I only arrived on the Unity two days ago." She said between small bites of her pasta.
Being a more quiet individual, Dick sat rather reservedly over his dinner, looking up at the young woman when he was speaking to her. After swallowing more cheesy manacotti he spared another such glance, "Where'd you ship from?"

"The USS Enterprise-G." She and Richard Sharpe had both come from there. "How about yourself?" Chloe was a very out going type of person who's friendliness shined.

The man cleared his throat, halfway anxious about revealing his previous assignment. It was never a thrilling opportunity when one was forced to reveal their greenness. "Quantico," he finally answered before lifting his glass to his lips again. After a quick drink he explained, "I finished Oh-See-Es about four weeks ago."

Chloe nodded, she wasn't extremely experienced herself, having started rather late with her Starfleet track. She could tell that he was somewhat nervous. "I haven't been an officer long. I was an experimental test pilot in 001 before I was on the Enterprise. Wasn't there long, roughly 10 months." She said hoping that made her seem more equal to his experience.

"Sounds exciting," replied Dick, finishing the last of his pasta. He followed it with another drink of water and then said, "I haven't done much else. Trained in airborne and orbital operations, advanced tactics...the usual infantry specializations."

Chloe nodded. "I've recently transferred over to being a marine." She said with a slight smile. "I'm not sure how I feel about it yet." She didn't exactly seem like the marine type. She was strong and very fit. A pilot's body for sure, but she was still that.

"So you were fleet before?" he asked. This stranger had definitely managed to befriend him quickly. Normally he would not have cared to learn about someone; it was too easy to make a friend and then lose them in combat. That was hammered into the mind of an Marine officer. "I entered the Academy as a Marine Cadet," the Lieutenant added, figuring it to be the appropriate response. "Transferred to Quantico after my first year to complete Officer Candidate School. Spent the last three years there, leaving for only a week each out of each year."

"Yes, I was in 'the fleet.' Never thought I would ever thought I would ever find myself in this position." With her small bites she finished off her pasta, taking a slow long drink out of her her glass of water. "But here I am." Richard Sharpe had a lot to do with her becoming a marine.

The Lieutenant raised an eyebrow, "You don't enjoy wearing the green collar?"

"Like I said, Ive just transferred. I'm a Starfleet brat." She said with a tweaked smile. "My father's an admiral. My brother is a commander. And here I am.... a marine now."

Finishing off the last of his beverage the Lieutenant offered a nod, "My father was a service man, as well. Lost him when I was young."

"Same with my mother." Chloe consoled. "I know how it feels." She seemed comfortable with this. She had come to terms with it long ago. "It's all apart of serving, no matter where your serving." She gave some thought for a moment. "I know a marine who at one time didn't want to have much to do with me because he was scared that he might loose me because he had been hurt once."
She said this from experience. "But things change." She said with a smile, knowing very well that things had changed greatly between her and that marine.

Winters shook his head slowly; another thing he thought best to leave alone were romantic attachments. So he tried to be sensitive as he commented, "Those fears are based in fact and on good reason. If you got him to change his mind...well...make sure to count your blessings."

Chloe gave a smile. "I do count my blessings." She said with a smile as she finished her water.

Taking a deep breath, Dick fought for a moment to find something to say to overcome the awkward silence that had befallen them. He was never good at casual conversations like these, and was unsure of how to continue. Finally he found a solution, "You seen combat yet? As a pilot, I mean?"

Chloe nodded. "Yes, on the Enterprise as well as when I was traveling around before." She didn't like fighting, but sometimes you didn't have a choice. "How about yourself?"

"Only the simulated stuff," answered the Lieutenant, obvious unease in his voice. "Most of my platoon has, though. I'll be relying very heavily on them. At least through this first encounter."

"That's what platoons are for. Support. Even if your experienced it's still nice to have them have your back."

With a shrug Dick replied, "True, but they are also going to look to me for support and encouragement. Considering I'm going into this with only training exercises under my belt...well...nervous doesn't completely define what I'm feeling."

"I'm new, so those I'm serving with don't know if they can depend on me yet. It's all about working your way in." She said leaning back in her chair. There wasn't much she could do at the moment while they were waiting to arrive.

With a long, drawn out, near exhausted sigh, Winters leaned back as well, "This is the worst part. And it's only going to get worse once we get there..."

"We will see. It might not be as bad as you think." Chloe always looked on the brighter side of things.

In his mind Dick pictured hordes of Romulans running through a doorway, all bearing disruptors, and all aiming right for him; his troops lay dead around his feet. Closing his eyes and shook his head, "If it happens, if they try to take the station from us, it's going to be bad."

"Always think positive. Even if you know that things are going to be bad. Even more so if you say it out loud, it makes you feel like it's going to be worse." Chloe knew this well out of experience.

Deciding not to push the subject, hoping the young woman was right but fearing in his gut she was not, the Lieutenant decided to change the subject, "Well...I...uh...probably need to hit the rack. Shouldn't go into this mess on no sleep."

Chloe nodded. "I should be doing the same shortly." She said with a warm smile. "It was nice meeting you."
"Likewise, Miss Merau," Winters answered as he stood up from the table. "And, uh...good hunting out there tomorrow."

She nodded as she stood up. "I can deffently hope so..."

Location: First Platoon Barracks, Deck 312
Time: Shortly after deployment orders were issued [before Frankie's log]

"First Platoon! Listen up!"

Second Lieutenant Winters was standing on a chair at the front of the rectangular room that made up the platoon's living space, shouting so that all could hear, "We've just received our deployment orders!" Grab your gear and report to airlock twelve! The starship Titan will have the honor of taking us to Passada Station."

He stepped down off the chair and turned to Bull Randleman, who had himself been sitting on his bunk near the entrance to the barracks, "Gunny, get them moving. Double-time it."

Standing from his billet the boisterous man called out, "Alright, now! First and Second Squads, grab your packs and fall in!" As the men fell into a formation four wide and six deep, Randleman turned to the senior NCO of the group, "Sergeant Lipton, have these gentlemen double time it to the airlock. Get goin!"

"Column of files from the right to the left! Forward," the young sergeant called out after stepping to the side of the formation. "March!"

As the two dozen marines exited the room with full packs attached to their backs, Randleman turned to the third squad, who had been busy checking over their heavy repeating compression rifles. The repeating rifles were large enough that they could be mounted on a bipod to assist in the aiming of the weapon; it was also large enough that it could hooked up to a stand-alone generator instead of only relying on small power cells, allowing for a longer, denser stream of phase pulses. There were two large crates carrying these weapons near the bunks belonging to the last squad.

"Get on over to Titan and have'em beam your weapons to you," Randleman ordered, checking the labels on each case. Everything seemed to be in order for transport. "And don't forget your sidearms. If we get overrun I don't want you fellas to be left naked, hear me?"
There was a quick chorus of "yes, sirs" before the half-dozen men took off out the doorway into the corridor beyond.

Winters, still standing next to the door itself, let out a long sigh, "Well, that was easy enough."

"Everything's easy 'nuff when you got Easy on the job, Lieutenant," Randleman said as he walked through the door. "You'll figure that out in time, sir."

=/-\= Twenty Minutes Later...on the Titan... =/-\=

"Second Squad, report to deck nine! See Lieutenant Commander Jaxik there for your bunk assignments! Third Squad, you'll be on deck twelve; see Lieutenant (jg) Addison."

Dick and Denver had followed their marines as they double-timed it to the airlock. Upon arriving there Winters had been given a PADD with instructions, as well as bunking assignments for each of his three squads. "First Squad, you'll be on...deck fine. See me." He shot a glance over at Randleman, who returned it with a shrug. Both of them were staying on deck five, each in quarters with three others of the same basic position.

As they were finishing up getting situated and on their way to their various destinations, Winters spotted th'Laxonth approaching from the airlock, "I didn't think you'd be joining us out there, Nix. Kinda dangerous for a battalion officer to be out in the field."

"Which is exactly why I'm not going with you, actually," the Andorian replied, regret obvious on his blue-skinned face. His antennae were coiled into what Dick had learned was a symbol of anger and frustration. "The Major has made it very clear that I am to remain here on the station and supervise any further incoming intel from the front lines of the operation."

Before Winters could open his mouth Nix spat out, "Look, Dick, I really wish I was goin out there with you guys. To be stuck on the sidelines like this...it's not what I wanted."

Raising a hand to cut off any further comments, the Lieutenant shook his head and replied, "We'll be alright, Nix. Just make sure that intel stays up to date."

With that Winters pushed the PADD in his hand against the Andorian's chest and turned and took off down the corridor. He would see to the mens' needs, but then he figured it would be just about time to find some food. With all the excitement of the past 36 hours he really had no time to stop for much of anything. And there was bound to be a mess hall he could use around here someplace...

[USS Chimera] SD 240908.11 | Duty Log | MGen. Richard Sharpe

=/\= Loading Dock – SB UNITY =/\=

“Move those crates carefully, god damn your eyes!” shouted Harper, as he supervised the loading of the cargo bay with essential supplies for Padassa.

“Why must you always curse them, Patrick?” Sophie asked, standing beside him with a tablet padd, ticking off the inventory list.

“Because, its what Sergeant Major’s do. We shout, bellow, curse and abuse. That way you officers look good.” Harper replied, giving Sophie a sweet smile.

“Always the flatterer, aren’t you Patrick?” She said, coolly.

“Of course.” He said, then turned back to the operation at hand. “Considering the crap we’re bringing, you’d think Richard was expecting us to invade Romulus.”

“I believe General Sharpe is planning for all contingencies.” Sophie said.

“Yeah, I know. He always thinks five steps ahead. It’s a curse and a blessing all in one.” Harper said, and turned to bark at a private who was lugging a phaser rifle case up to the loading ramp. “Easy lad, don’t put your back out.”

“We all squared away?” Came a soft feminine voice from behind them. Both turned and spotted Major Westbourne, the MEF Command & Control Officer walking up towards them. At 29 years of age, with long flowing light brown hair, tied up in a pony tail, she was General Sharpe’s combat co-ordinator. A somewhat essential role, considering the fact that General Sharpe didn’t act like a typical general, and would lead from the front more often than he’d co-ordinate operations from a command room. Much to the annoyance of his staff.

“Yes Major, the last of the supplies are being loaded. The 501st were brought aboard earlier, and their fighters are secured on the lower deck. The 2nd Battalion are also aboard, and settled in.” Sophie said.

“Where’s our esteemed General?” Westbourne asked.

“Probably on the bridge, pissing the captain off.” Harper said. “He likes to irritate fleet captain’s. Lord knows why.”

“I swear to god, I’ll never understand that man.” Veronica Westbourne said. “But he’s good at what he does, so I guess he’s worth keeping around.”

“He is?” Harper replied, teasingly.

“So they tell me anyway.” Veronica quipped.

=/\= A few hours later – USS Titan =/\=

The retrofitted Galaxy Class ship was en-route to Padassa with Richard’s marine contingent. In the briefing room, a normal galaxy class style observation lounge, Richard sat with Major Westbourne, Sergeant Major Harper and Lieutenant Colonel Strayer, CO of 2nd Battalion. Lt. Daniels, Richard’s aide, sat in the corner, taking notes.

“Alright.” Richard said, and activated the holo-table. “This is Padassa. One ugly looking Romulan monstrosity that Starfleet seems to feel is valuable real-estate right now. Our task on the outset seems simple. We go in and we defend it.”

Strayer, someone whom Richard didn’t know all that well, but had heard he was a capable operator, merely nodded. “I’m guessing it isn’t that simple.”

“You’d guess correctly. If anything, this is going to be a nightmare.” Richard said. “We will be the main body of defence, but we will be assisted by elements of the Klingon Defence Force, and the Errassian Guard. Not in big numbers, but they’ll want their say on how we’re doing this, since this is, in theory, the Klingon’s station.”

“Right.” Veronica said.

“Before we even worry about our ‘allies’, the terrain is going to be a nightmare as well.” Richard continued. “The corridors are not curved like our starbases, or anyone else’s, but have sharp corners, and dead ends. The lower decks are actually a maze, deliberately so to flummox invaders. Unfortunately, it also presents defensive nightmares too.”

“I would suggest then that we concentrate our forces on critical areas, and leave some in reserve to go where necessary.” Strayer said. “If we put Charlie Company on defence of the command decks, Dog on defence of Engineering, Easy on reserve duty, and Fox on defence of the mid-section, that should give us a good spread.”

Richard nodded. “I assume the CO of Easy is level headed enough to know where to concentrate?”

“Captain Spiers is one of my best.” Strayer said. “Although don’t tell him I said so.”

Richard chuckled. “Wouldn’t dream of it.”

“Where will the Klingon’s be?” Harper asked.

“Probably everywhere.” Richard sighed. “Best not to worry about the Klingons. C&C will be in the command centre. I take it I can leave that in your capable hands Veronica?” Richard asked.

“Yes sir.” Major Westbourne said.

“Good. Admiral Guzman will probably be there co-ordinating the fleet action. You’ll need to take your cues from him where you can.” Richard said.

“Sir, where will you be?” She asked.

“I’ll be with Easy.” He said, simply.

“Is that wise?” Westbourne asked, curtly.

“Probably not, but I’m not an office boy. I work better when I’m in the thick of it.” He said. “I’ll be co-ordinating with you via my comm. Carrier anyway.” Richard said.

“And I’ll be with you.” Harper said.

“I’d rather have you as liason to the Klingons.” Richard said.

“And I’d rather you were up in command with Major Westbourne.” Harper snapped.

“Patrick, mind yourself.” Richard said, darkly.

“Sir, you nearly died on the last combat mission you lead. I strongly urge you to remember that your place is in command of the entire operation, not just a combat company.” Harper said.

“That’s enough, Sergeant Major!” Richard shouted, and slammed his PADD down. “Are you questioning my orders?”

“No sir!” Harper said firmly. “Merely expressing concern for a friend, SIR!”

“Noted.” Richard said, hotly. “Strayer, you stay up in command with Westbourne, co-ordinate your Battalion. Liase with the Errassians. Harper, you can come with me.”

“Sir!” Harper said, acknowledging his orders.

“Carry on.” Richard said.

[USS Chimera] SD240908.11 | Joint Duty Log | Capt Rojac & Cmdr Levison

Charles Richards <d3ucalion@gmail.com> wrote to chimera@ucip.org:

</\> USS Chimera NCC 96899-C - Deck 1, Main Bridge </\>

Mike Levison stepped out of the turbolift that had brought him from
the bowels of the Chimera to its nerve centre, the main bridge, his
eyes roaming across the space and taking in as many details at once as
he could. He had taken the liberty of taking the scenic route around
the vessel on his way to meeting with his new CO, doing his best to
familiarise himself with the vessel in reality as much as in his mind
from the specifications and reports he had read. The Century Class was
a particularly interesting and impressive design from his point of
view and as a vessel designer himself he could appreciate the majesty
of the ship.

Sparing a moment to check the master systems display and tactical
station on his way past, Levison approached the Captain's sanctum,
knowing that he would be inside, courtesy of the ship's computer. Many
of the duty officers gave him quizzical looks as he meandered almost
aimlessly across their work space with a heavy duffel bag slung over
one shoulder, but others realised who he was: the new Tactical
officer.

Pausing for a moment but only a moment to straighten his uniform, Mike
hit the chime to alert the occupant of the room to his presence and
waited.

Cropa looked up from his desk as the door's parted and the Commander
walked into his domain. He cleared the screen that
served as his desktop with the press of a button - he could return to
the reports in a moment - and stood to greet his guest.
"Welcome aboard the Chimera, Commander." Rojac said, offering a hand.
"I must say that I envy you."

"Thank you sir," Levison smiled, taking the man's extended hand and
shaking it firmly, "You do, sir?"

"I do, Mr. Levison. Please have a seat." Rojac took his own opposite
the new CTac and continued on his explanation. "You see, my first
assignment out of the academy was as an ATac aboard the Chimera-A. I
guess you can say I 'grew up' on this ship." Rojac smirked, "It's
where I cut my teeth."

Mike smiled at that and sat across from the Captain before responding,
"I know it well sir. Well, not the ship, but going straight to a
tactical posting out of the Academy. I was stationed aboard the
starship Dirae before making the shift to Operations and then Command.
It's been quite some time since I've stood behind the Tactical station
and fired phasers, but just like riding a bike, I'm sure it'll come
back as soon as I see the console."

"I hope it does, Commander." Rojac replied. I'm sorry to pull you from
the command track for this mission - but this leg of Operation Magna
was too important to leave my tactical department in the hands of an
unexperienced Tactical Officer. You are one of the best, Commander,
and I truly am glad to have you aboard."

"Well, thank you sir, that's quite a compliment. I hope I can live up
to your expectations and my... reputation," Mike chuckled, "and think
nothing of it, as you said, it is a very important mission."

Rojac pulled a padd from one of his desk drawers and handed it to
Levison. "Here are my comments from the tactical simulation I ran with
the department this morning. Your torpedo rooms teams performed
admirably - just a little lag time with the Ensign serving as bridge
officer. Otherwise, the department did well - though I'm sure you can
squeeze a little more out of them."

"I certainly intend to," Levison nodded, glancing over the padd
briefly before speaking again, "I have a number of requests I would
like to make of you sir in that regard. There is an officer I've
served with in the past both on the Dirae and at Eden Fleet Yards whom
I feel would be an asset to the department. I'm willing to put through
all of the paperwork and save you that particular headache. I would
also like to schedule drilling with the Security department. I know
it's not regulation, or required, but I feel physical fitness amongst
my men aids with their performance. I could have gone over your head
with it, but I wanted to ask your permission."

"Permission granted, Commander." Rojac replied. "Who is this officer
you wish to transfer?"

"Lieutenant Commander Gregory Kilbain. He's a distinguished officer
and was Acting Captain of one of the picket ships around Eden for
three years, saving our bacon numerous times. He's as close to a right
hand man as I've ever had, so believe me when I say he'll be of great
use," Levison replied, "Last I heard, he was still knocking around in
that sector of the Galaxy."

"Then you need to hurry, Commander." Rojac said. "We're scheduled to
depart once the tests finish on the stealth plating. I'll give you 48
hours at the most. Alpha and Charlie groups are leaving this
afternoon."

"Aye sir, I'll have him here within twenty-four. In the mean time,
I'll go find my quarters and see if I can kick my sorry bunch into
shape!" Levison nodded smartly, with a sly smile.

"Then I won't hold you up any longer, Commander." Rojac grinned. "I'll
keep in touch. You're dismissed."

"Aye sir," Mike said in parting, standing once more and offering a
snap salute before picking up his duffel and leaving the Ready Room.
'A new posting, a new ship and new challenges. Time to get stuck in,'
he thought to himself as the door closed behind him.
