Gustav was sitting down at his desk in a darkened room under a bright
magnifying lamp with a bunch of tools and his arm in front of him, he
decided it was time to tinker and improve it. Not long after the
operation Gustav received the plans and specs on the prosthetic arm so
he could look them over even tough Dr Rice wasn't happy about the
idea.

Mimi had finished up early and decided that if she hurried she and
Gustav would have time for another shower before they went to the mess
hall for dinner. She didn't see him when she first arrived at their
quarters and decided to check Gustav 'little workshop'.

He was in the middle of swapping out the main micro servo for one that
had far more power and control {I might have to think about upgrading
the power supply and the linkages as well soon} when the door whooshed
open.

She walked in the open door and stopped suddenly the words of greeting
freezing in her throat. The hands that hand hung naturally at her
side took a decidedly more tense stand on her hips. It was in that
second that she found her voice again, "I Can't believe it.... you...
not..." Not sure which thought to follow and not wanting to say the
wrong thing she turned and walked out of the room.

Gustav puzzled at Mimi's reaction stood up and followed her leaving
his arm unfinished on the desk.

She shook her head as she made her way through the living area toward
the bedroom. "Why," she asked aloud even though it was more to
herself than anyone else around. She had made it only as far as half
way to her destination when Gustav question stopped her.

"What do you expect? I'm an engineer I fix, improve and tinker with
things, the more complicated the better" he replied.

She spun around meeting his gaze, "I don't know ... its not that I
thought you wouldn't think about improvements, but... but I don't know
you couldn't have waited 3 months... used paper and pencil so to
speak.... discussed it with ... oh I don't know a doctor as well."

"I was sent the plans and specs for the arm not long after the
surgery" Gustav said trying to explain but he didn't bother finishing,
as he didn't think it would help

With a sigh, she added, "Did you even consider that you might do more
harm then good?" She swallowed hard just try to get what little spit
she had left around the lump that seemed to block her throat. She
tapped her foot for about 12 beats and then turned back around and
closed her eyes against the tears the were very close to the surface.

Thinking that he saw some fear in her eyes before she turned around
Gustav asked Mimi "what's really bothering you, you know I wouldn't do
anything to intentionally injury my self".

She shook her head thinking {its not the intentional ... its the
accidental.} She didn't voice her thoughts, but instead waved her
hand and began to finish her trek to the bedroom. She waved a hand in
the air and claimed, "It's just been a difficult day." She was
surprised the words cam out so calmly as she felt anything but calm on
the inside.

Following Mimi into the bedroom Gustav said, "You know I'm no
councillor but shouldn't talk about your problems and fears" adding
"if you can't talk to me about them who can you talk to?"

She spun back around quickly almost causing them to collide. Her arms
crossed in front of her as if in protection as her body seemed to hum
with vibrations. "My problems... my fears.... You.... what had a
horrible accident and under went surgery... you've barely recovered...
you haven't even finished the physical therapy ... and true to form
your taking your own arm apart and tinkering with it."

Gustav didn't say anything, he just let Mimi continue to let
everything out while never taking his gaze away from her eyes.

Her stare was hard but filled with emotions as the words continued to
tumble from her lips. "Did you even think about it on paper.... and
don't say yes ... to make me feel better... because we'd both know it
was a lie."

"I did have the plans though" he tried to say in his defence.

"There is nothing that you like better than having the plans ... and
digging right in to take whatever you're working on apart." Her body
seemed infused with heat with every twisting emotion. She turned
taking off her uniform top as she did and throwing it on the bed.

"But that's what I'm like… an engineer, I do things like this bec…."
Gustav stopped what he was saying when he saw Mimi's reaction.

Mimi took a couple of steps away to give her body if not her mind some
peace. "What if..." She took in a shuddering breath and fell silent
looking at the floor.

Gustav asked "What if?" wanting to know how she felt

With a resigned sigh and still looking at the floor she answered,
"What if your tinker ends up causing an accident where you... I don't
know choke yourself.... How would I...."

Gustav had an inward smile at the thought of his arm moving on it's
own and trying to throttle him but he didn't let Mimi know as it would
have made things worse instead he tried to get Mimi to finish what she
was saying.

"How would you?" he said while moving closer to Mimi.

She felt the warmth of his body and the words that encouraged her to
finish, "survive without you," as his finger moved her chin up until
she met his gaze again.

Looking into Mimi's eyes Gustav said "I' always be here for you… for
as long as you want me here I'll be here" he then lent in to kiss her
sweet lips.

She gave a gentle shove at his shoulder saying, "I'm still mad at
you." The small shove did nothing to move him and he used another
small kiss to coax her out of her bad mood as well as moved them a
step closer to the bed. "Will you at least think whatever
"improvements" your going to make out on paper...?"

Gustav didn't reply, he just kept moving closer to Mimi and so making
her get closer and closer to the bed behind her.

Mimi took another step backward waiting for a response, while Gustav
closed the space she was trying to create. "You never know when an
incomplete calibration might cause some kind of a spasm that would
cause discomfort while using the bathroom." The words were hardly out
of her mouth before she fell backward onto the bed with her next step.

Gustav just smiled sweet but devilish smile at Mimi while lower
himself onto the bed next to her {I wish I had my other arm on}, he
then reached up with his left arm to brush a couple of loose strands
of hair away from her face and lent in for another kiss.

Greetings fellow Chimerans!

This week it's your XO reporting, as our CO is enjoying a few days off while he is attending the historical inauguration of the US's 44th President. There's a discrepancy in the log count this week... there's one log missing between the PC and NPC logs (they only add up to 44), but the total is 45. After trying to figure out which log it is I'm missing, I decided to give up, so please excuse that little error!

A good week logging wise, as usual. Towards the end of the week we will most likely be arriving at our destination, namely Outpost 071. I hope all departments are ready, because you will need to be. :) On Unity we learn about some interesting developments regarding the war. Stay tuned for more, cause some exciting things are going to happen soon!

We also have a new listserv this week, namely the Chimera Executive list <chimera-exec@ucip.org>. On this is only the CO and XO, so if there's anything you would like to discuss with only the two of us instead of the entire Command Team, please feel free to do so.

On an OOC note, a new OOC ranking system is being implement UCIP-wide which will help to facilitate the promotion of simmers who serve in OOC positions throughout the org. This however won't impact on the average simmer, so you don't have to worry too much about that. Also, the CinC and Deputy CinC will now be known as the President and the Vice President. The incumbent President is Frankie and the Vice President is Selin (in case you wanted to know).

Flight Operations : Recon flight. We need some intel on the outpost and what may be surrounding it. Are we heading into an ambush?

Operations: I want you guys writing the computer program for the delicate transport procedure.

Engineering: I want you guys making the ahrdware modifactions to the transporters.

Security: Two man teams should be drilling for covert insertion and hostage rescue. Do what you can to NOT bring down the outpost's cloak, just in case the outpost's position is not known to the whole romulan fleet.

Medical: The XO wants you checking the crew's DNA for Romulan traces. Get busy, start with the away teams is my suggestion.

Science: Monitor the passive sensor for signs of Romulan activity.

The week kicks off with Rangi and Natalia discussing DNA screening for the crew.  Rick and Trent have a late night chat about Rick feeling like a third wheel.  Vlimar gives his Strategic Ops team a lecture on priorities before rerouting the USS Virginia to support the USS D'Artagnan.  MaiKai head in to work and recieves info on her newest patient.  Rick and Trent discover that Hoack has escaped custody and also meet up with Jo.  Jade gives out orders to her department.  Cropa chews out the Acting Head of Security and the Master at Arms.  Dr Jacobs and Nym have another clash of opinions.  Rick recieves his new assignment.  Chisulo plans out a mission to see why the Klingons have been so quiet on the war front.  Cropa and Athena discuss her amnesia.  Nym writes a blunt report to Dr Jacobs.  Gustav and Mimi have an intimate meal which warrents an NC17 rating.  Bren recieves his new posting in the shipyard from Shane.  The injured Tommy checks in on his department.  Rick visits Jo aboard the Qashqai and they share a drink.  Natalia interrogates the Romulan prisoner.  Dr Jacobs reads over Nym's report.  Information about a conversation between Alecto and Viktor regarding an immanent romulan action.  News also breaks about a massive Romulan attack on New Geneva creating a death toll in excess of 20 million people.  Nym readys herself to talk to an erratic patient to obtain information on Romulan activity.  Nym sends another report to Dr Jacobs about her patient.  Rick has a violent run in with a Klingon and is saved by a Katarian female.  Chisulo gets the go ahead from Shane for his mission.  Rangi returns to her quarters after a long day and puts on the Erassian news channel EABC from which she learns of the Alliance losing control of the Rios System after the invasion on Christmas Day and also the attack on New Geneva.

possible, so everyone sees him coming. "... So, this means
 that I received the same report 18 times, from  18 different
persons. Now, who can tell me what that means?", he asked.

 "It means that while 18 persons were trying to impress me
with an obvious bold news that the damn Ferengi probably
 heard of, no one  cared about telling me that we lost total
communication with the Beta group, due to a communication

Logging:

The weekly logging deadline is at Midnight (12:00AM/00:00) GMT/UTC (19:00 EST); all logs received after the deadline will be counted for the following week. If you are pressed for time and would like a log to count for the previous week, but it is sent after the deadline, please send an email to the command team when you send the log so that we can make the corrections.

Please remember that all MAJOR plot changes need to be cleared with the command staff before a log goes through! You can do this by sending the command staff (chimera-command@ucip.org ) a log labeled with "Draft" tagged to the subject line. We'll typically let you know if it's approved within 24 to 48 hours, or tell you what might need to be modified before it's sent to the listserv.

When using other characters in your logs, please keep in mind that person's characteristics. Character information can be found on the UCIP website or the USS Chimera website (under CREW - just click on the Star Trek symbol next to the character's name). If you're still unsure how to interact with a character, then privately mail the person
involved, and I'm sure they'll be willing to help.

Conversely, if you feel that your character is being portrayed incorrectly by someone please contact them to try to work out an agreeable solution. Just keep in mind when logging to treat other characters the way you'd like them to treat you - with the respect due to any member of Starfleet who is a specialist in their field.

New Cadets are given two (2) weeks upon joining to observe the sim. After the initial observation period, Cadets and other crew are required to post at least one log per week (unless on excused or on LOA).

factors All promotions after Lieutenant Commander require review and

--Hallway, Deck 15--

 

Michael paused at a fork in the hallway and hesitated. He hadn't been aboard the Chimera long enough to meet the CO and he was already lost. This ship was far larger than any other he had been on and was incredibly confusing. It didn't help that he had a horrible sense of direction. There was a reason he had avoided the helm in his career.

 

He turned left and started walking. He was a specialist in improvised weaponry due to his experience aboard the Endeavor, and having a ship where he didn't have to constantly rebuild the weapons systems was always appreciated. He had spent some time studying up on the Century-class and felt that the ship would be a good home for him, but it wouldn't be a home at all if he didn't find his way to the bridge to report in.

 

Michael sighed in relief as he finally spotted a turbolift at the end of the hall. He sped up and paused at the door while it opened, then entered and sent it to the bridge. When the doors parted he entered and took a brief look around. The captain wasn't present, and so he stepped towards the ready room and hit the chime. It was time to meet with his new CO.

It was late by the time Rangi had left sickbay. She had
crossed the reception area with a glance at the nurse on
duty behind the desk.
" Goodnight Commander." the young woman said " Goodnight."
Rangi had replied and glad to be heading back towards her
quarters, had walked to the turbo lift with tired steps.

Once inside she had requested the deck she required and had
leaned back against the wall as the lift sped on its way. It
was a short walk to her quarters and Rangi had tapped in the
code thankful to be home at last.
Feeling hungry but not feeling she could be bothered to cook
anything in the small kitchen so ordered a replicated meal
of fish and vegetables.

She switched on the news channel that had the best signal in
this region called EABC which was an Erassian channel but
she headed towards her bedroom leaving the meal untouched
and the undulating voice of the newscaster behind her.

{I'll call Shane later...} she thought,loosening her tunic {
.he might have more news about Martin...}
She roughly folded the uniform and dropped it onto a chair,
moving to the bathroom from where she emerged five minutes
later, wrapped in a towel and rubbing her hair dry.

The newscasters voice continued as a background noise to
which she paid little attention as she combed her damp hair
and slipped into pyjamas but as she reached for her robe
some words caught her attention and, frowning, she returned
to the main room and crossed to see the screen.

"I repeat again Alliance forces have signalled retreat and
are withdrawing from the defence of the Rios System after
twenty four days of solid fighting following the Romulan
invasion into the Rios System in the early hours of
Christmas Day 2408. Initial casualty estimates amongst
Alliance forces are unknown but are predicted to be high.
Casualties on the Romulan side are also expected to be high
due to fierce resistance from Alliance forces and defence
structures already in place. Whilst the Romulans may have
succeeded in taking control of the Rios system they have
paid a high price for their victory."

Rangi sank down onto the edge of the chair, absently pulling
the robes belt between her fingers.
{Christmas day} stuck in Rangi's mind and she wondered at
the choice of that date. How ironic or perhaps how
deliberate to choose the one day that most Federation people
revered as the time for peace and goodwill.

The newscaster looked behind her to the short dark clothed
man who was speaking into her ear.

"We have a breaking story coming through. It appears that
on the planet of New Geneva within the Federation there has
been a cataclysmic explosion involving the planetary power
generation plant situated within New Geneva City itself.
It is currently unknown whether the explosion was the result
of accidental failure or enemy action. Initial estimates
place casualties within the region..." The newscaster took
a deep breath before continuing "...they place casualties
within the region at around twenty million people."

"What?" Rangi breathed the words aloud
"..Twenty...million...people?"

For a moment it looked as thought the young newsreader
would cry for her eyes definitely glistened.
Rangi had seen her before and thought she was probably of
Betazoid extraction but now the fair complexion was deathly
pale.
{ Twenty million people} Rangi's left hand had pressed to
her throat but as the newsreader began to repeat the main
points again stressing Rios and Christmas Day and estimates,
Rangi reached forward to turn the programme off. The EABC
logo remained on the screen briefly before it too
disappeared.

Rangi stood up feeling shocked and after a few seconds
crossed the room to the replicator where the untouched meal
still lay ready for her but she pressed the recycle button,
wanting nothing to eat now and instead ordered a small glass
of water.

Later, after trying in vain to sleep, she would try to call
Shane but would not surprised when her efforts were in vain.
