== Deck 61, "The Fighting Eagle" squadron shuttle bay ==

Vlimar exited the Turbolift and ran towards the entry of the
bay door. Vlimar crouched over the opposite wall, removing
the bottom plate, unveiling the emergency equipment. Vlimar
grabbed a manual fire suppressor and a mask.

Vlimar knew that this bay was home of the Fighting Eagle, a
Valkyrie-class Fighter Squadron. The Colonel knew that there
was very little time, to save the material, indeed, but
mostly, the maintenance crew that were stuck in the bay. The
LCARS terminal reported 3 lifesigns inside the bay, but two
of them were weak... very weak.

Vlimar override the computer shut down of the bay door, an
automatic feature in case of fire.

Vlimar put his back against the opposing wall, suppressor in
his hands, and tapped his combadge.

+COM+ "PontBrillant to emergency crew, what is your ETA?",
asked Vlimar.

+COM+ "3 minutes, sir!", someone replied.

Vlimar though that 3 minutes might be too late for those
three individuals. He opened the door barely, letting the
flames exit the door, cause of the newly fresh air coming
in. Vlimar put the mask on, and closed his eyes. He knew
this would hurt... a lot.

Vlimar opened his eyes and ran inside the shuttle bay, using
the suppressor to try to weaken the fire, at least, enough
for him not to get too burned. Vlimar, upon entering the
inflamed blaze, felt and excruciating pain to his thorax and
right leg. Vlimar gave a shot of the suppressor on himself,
extinguishing the flames that grabbed on his uniform.
"Computer, shut the freaking door!"

The shuttle bay door shut down rather fast. Vlimar
overlooked the room for a second. From his point of view, it
seemed that the entire shuttle bay was embrazed by the
flames. The ceiling was aflamed, the floor was getting that
dark brownish color distinctive of fire damage. Vlimar
started looking around for the other crew members inside. He
did not see anything. Within seconds, the temperature was
getting unbearable for Vlimar. Also, his right breast
started to feel like it was on fire. Due to the pain, Vlimar
looked down, as a reflex, and realized that the combadge was
actually burning through his uniform, down to his skin.
Vlimar brushed off the combadge, burning the back of his
left hand.

Vlimar stopped again and looked. The Colonel saw 2 fighters
burning up in blueish flames. A Repair Shuttle was in an
insulated corner, where the fire didn't start ravishing it.
Looking further, Vlimar saw a burning tool bag, near the
entrance of the shuttle. Vlimar walked towards the shuttle,
covering his face with his right arm, to prevent his face
from burning. Doing so made his right arm slowly burning
with the heat, fortunately slowed down by the fire retardant
clothing that SSF uniforms are made from.

Upon arriving to the shuttle hatch door, Vlimar looked for a
way to go in. The Colonel felt his breathing was getting
more and more superficial as the pain from his chest and arm
seeming to increase. Vlimar also felt that the bottom of his
face was hurting, obviously starting to burn through the
mask.

Vlimar blindly touched the hatch. The obvious heat coming
from the reflexion of the flames on the metal made Vlimar's
right hand going away from the door, but VLimar forced his
hand back on the burning metal. Vlimar typed on the pad by
the door, opening the hatch.

At the very second the hatch opened, Vlimar stick his head
inside of it. Inside the shuttle was CPO 2 Munro, kneeled,
attending to two other officers. One of them was 2nd
Lieutenant Wilkes, which Vlimar welcomed aboard 1 week
prior. Vlimar stepped in and shut the hatch behind him.

Vlimar's breathing was still deterioring, and the inside of
the shuttle was getting hotter by the minutes. Within
seconds, Munro briefed Vlimar about the fact that both of
them were sedated by Munro, as a preventive measure, using
the shuttle's emergency medical kit. Munro had minor burns
on his hands and on his back, but was in an overall good
shape.

Vlimar looked around the inside cabin. "Did you try to start
the shuttle, Jonathan?", Vlimar asked.

Munro looked up at Vlimar. He did not expect Vlimar to know
his first time, and even more, to use it. Munro shook his
head. "I don't know how to fly!", he replied.

Vlimar slid himself at the pilot's seat, feeling instant
pain in his back and legs, increasing his abdomen pain.
{{I'm a freaking roasted chicken!}}, Vlimar though. The
Colonel looked at the commands, which vaguely reminded him
of the Spectre Class Fighter he used to pilot. Within
seconds, the shuttle's nacelle lighted up: the vessel was
up.

Vlimar screamed: "Computer, open exterior door and FLUSH!".

The Computer chirped, opening the exterior bay door. Within
seconds, the forcefield was disactivated and everything was
thrown out of the starbase, in a very chaotic wave. The
fighters collided with each others, one hitting the shuttle
in which Vlimar and the three other officers were, causing
the shuttle to roll on itself as it reach empty space.

Vlimar, who did not bother fastening his seatbelt, was
thrown against the shuttle's ceiling, then back in the seat,
then back at the ceiling. Vlimar felt head turning, seeing
black spots everywhere. A quick look at the station,
reassured Vlimar, as the Shuttle seemed empty, fire being
extinguished by the lack of oxygen the door opening created.

Vlimar eyes rolled back up...

== Emergency Sickbay, Deck 111 ==

- 2 hours later

Vlimar felt a fresh feeling on his forehead. Without opening
his eyes, Vlimar realized he was laying down on his back,
covered by a blanket. His chest was sore, very sore. So were
his arms and legs, especially his right thigh.

Vlimar heard the distant sound of a metal tool being placed
in a metal container, overhearing chatter.

"... and, there... I got it!", the male voice said.

"Alright, lets increase the dose and it should be good.", a
female voice answered.

Vlimar attempted to open his eyes, but he felt his eyes
rolling back up again.

{{Not again...}}, he though.

- 5 hours and a half later

Vlimar felt himself awake, again. This time, he opened his
eyes right away. The image of the EMH appeared, about 4
inched from his face.

"How are you feeling?", the Robert Picardo image asked.

Vlimar looked at it. {{How do you think I feel, stupid
Atari?}}, Vlimar though. Vlimar felt his chest was sore,
again. This time, he felt the burning was gone. The Colonel
raised his upper body on his arm and looked down. A large
patch of discolored new skin was there, covering his chest.

"That can't be good...", Vlimar said, intending to be for
himself.

"Actually, it is pretty good. We built up a culture of skin
from your left butt cheek and incre...", the EMH started.

Vlimar cut him/her/it. "Spare me the details, EMH. Can I go
to my quarters?".

"Most definitely, Lieutenant Colonel. However, I shall
advise you come back tomorrow for a follow-up on your
healing and scarring.", replied the hologram.

Vlimar sit back up, looked around for a shirt and / or
pants. The only thing that was visible was his half burned
uniform. He grabbed it and put it on, exposing his chest,
arms and tights.

"Ah, what the heck...", he said as he started walking,
slowly, to his quarters.

== Starbase 234 : UNITY, Command Deck ==

Vlimar entered the Command deck from the Turbolift. He
scanned the room with a quick left and right glance, then
located a target, walking right to it. The Colonel was
holding a padd on his right hand, was walking with a quite
decisive pace. The target was Captain Cheryl Wynn,
Commanding Officer of the USS Explorer, that just docked
back at the station from his Alpha front mission. Wynn was
already in the Conference Room, waiting for Vlimar.

"Captain? How the hell did you get so much damage to your
starboard nacelle?", Vlimar asked, as soon as he step foot
inside the conference room and shut the door.

Wynn turned slowly to Vlimar. She recognized the voice of
the Colonel, due to their previous services with the now
disbanded Starfleet Secret Services, where Wynn learn to
create havoc and get away with it. Wynn wanted to reply
something to the fact that it's was 'just' calleteral, but,
somehow, she had the strong feeling that wasn't good enough.
Wynn smiled weakly.

"Well, sir... We had an... collision with debris, while we
were en route to...", she replied.

Vlimar shook his head while hearing this. He did not let her
finish his explanation. For an Intrepid class starship like
the Explorer, hitting debris was seen as being
"unexperienced" or "bad command", which neither was applying
, as far as Vlimar was concerned.

"Captain, I expect far more from you. Reports from your XO,
Commander Merkel, states that you ordered your vessel to go
through an old debris field for the sake of not readjusting
your course and speed.", he dictated. "Is that true?", he
asked.

Wynn smiled as Vlimar was dicdating the "allegations". The
fact is that Merkel and Wynn have a bad working relationship
since the beginning. Both of the officers were very career
oriented and both had a different view on how better serve
the SSF's 1st TaskForce. For Wynn, this statement was a
career advancement opportunity from Merkel, which it
probably was. However, Wynn understood that this was a
reckless decision from a vessel that was heading to aid
another.

"Captain, I've discussed the issue with Commodore Guzman and
we seek advise from the Judge Advocate General office. The
fact is that you put the file of many men and women for the
strict reason of your lazyness. You put your Executive
Officer in a difficult position to have to step in and
override your orders, which were, without a doubt,
unprofessional and unecessary.", he said.

Wynn said nothing. She simply answered by a shrug. Obviously
, Wynn was trying to guess what Vlimar's point was. After
all, she was in front of a lower ranked officer, even though
the position was superior.

"Captain Wynn, though advice of Commodore Guzman, I am
suspending you from your duties for a period of 4 weeks
without pay. Also, I will ask you to surrender your
priviledge as Captain, until reinstatement.", he said.

Wynn's eyes opened widely. She was not expecting this, and
she wouldn't go without a fight. Wynn opened her mouth to
respond.

"I don't want to hear anything, Captain. If you want to
appeal from the decision, you can do so with due process and
time. In the mean time, I am naming Commander Merkel was
Acting Commanding Officer of the Explorer, with Major
Erickson as her Second.", Vlimar added.

Wynn's face instantely turned purple. If she could rip
Vlimar's face off, she would. She froze, looking at Vlimar,
her thoughs being on how to get her revenge.

Suddently, the communication port opened, on the emergency
channel.

+COM+ Engineering to Lieutenant-Colonel PontBrillant! +COM+

Vlimar signaled Wynn her combadge. Wynn unhooked it and set
it on the table. "Go ahead", Vlimar responded.

+COM+ Sir, a fire was declared in Shuttle Bay 6, and the
suppressors seem to be affected.

Vlimar looked at Wynn. "We will discuss later, you are
assigned to your quarters on the base until you meet with
the Commodore.", he said.

Vlimar exited the Command Deck and headed in direction of
the Shuttle Bay.
