Qashqai ====

Shane nodded and said: "You're dismissed".
As all of the other officers stood from their seats, Shane
said:
"Commander Summers, please stay here."

Walking over to Rangi, Shane hugged her tight … at least
as tight as his bruised body allowed. "I missed you so
much, my love"

Rangi didn't reply but stood, eyes closed, with her head
against his chest. She felt the most overwhelming sense of
relief as though some huge burden had been taken from her.
She opened her eyes and blinked quickly two or three
times, forcing back the tears that clouded her vision. When
she was sure they were suppressed she raised her head and
looked up to Shanes face and he said:

"Martin is here as well. He's all right; no harm was
done to him – luckily. But you look like Harker's
henchmen were not tender with you, were they?"

"I'm alright." she answered and when she saw he seemed to
doubt her word added "...really I am. They were going to
implant something into my neck but at the last minute the
away teams' arrival caused them to stop." She paused and
looked up at him.
"You know Liev is dead?" she asked.

Shaking his head, Shane said: "No, I do not. I thought
he's with you on the Detector or among those staying
behind to hold the fort on Padassa." With a sigh he added:
"That wont be a happy news for Commander Ohmsford.
Whathappened to him?"

Rangi shook her head, her expression clouding.
" I was putin a cell with him..well not exactly 'with'
him..there was a force field which seperated the place. He
had been terribly ill treated. He was starving and almost
blind." She paused for a moment as the images passed through
her mind.

"They had fitted him with some sort of device and took him
away for hours at a time. When Major Kinn was helping me
toescape, we passed open rooms and his body was inside one
of them. I checked to be sure but he was dead."

Shane remained silent for a moment before saying: "And
what about you? You say you're ok, but you do not look so.
I feel responsible for all that happened to you and
Martin"

"No..." she said. "It's not your fault. How can it be? Don't
lay blame where it shouldnt lie."

"Well, it's all cause of me, what have I done to
Romulans in general and Harker in particular. And with this
war and my position within our command, I fear they wont
stop threatening you and Martin."

Rangi, still in the protection of his arms, looked up into
his eyes. " Is that why you want us back at Unity?" sheasked
"

Shane looked at Rangi a bit surprised. He told Chisulo to
take Rangi and Martin back to UNITY only in one sentence not
so long ago ... and Rangi knew it already.
"Yes" he said. "this is still Romulan territory and a war
zone ... once Romulan forces will arrive. I don't want to
risk your and Martin's life again."

Rangi didnt answer immediately for she knew what Shane
would have wanted and would insist on.
She said quietly: " And what about you?

"I have to stay here" he answered quietly, "at least for
some time. We have now Klingons on the station and soon new
forces will arrive. There will be some resistance fighters
here soon as well. I need to make sure that we fight
Romulans and not each other". He stroked Rangi's chin and
added: "I'll be fine, don't worry about that"

" You're obviously not ok...look at you!" She gently touched
his cheek bone beneath the blackening eye.

"It looked worse then it really is, my love." He said
reassuring.

She nodded. " We'll do as you want but first.." she said. "
I want to know for the peace of my own mind that you're
alright. I'll treat you in sickbay and when I'm certain and
'only' when I'm certain that you're fine, then Martin and I
will go. Agreed?"

"Hmmm" Shane said in a joking tone, "you are officially MIA
my dear Commander and so can not issue any medical orders or
no orders at all ..." he smiled, "but if it makes you happy,
lets go to sickbay and then to Martin. He's waiting for us"

"He'll be wild ." she said in a warning tone and they
laughed for a moment at the thought of their sons delight to
come then stood just looking into each others eyes.
Rangi broke the moment by standing onto tiptoes, reaching up
for his kiss.

Shane kissed her passionately and whispered: "I love you"

" ...and I love you.." she whispered back "...you are
everything to me."

With a lighter heart he hugged his love again and said in a
cherish tone: "Let's see after our son. If I have read his
expression right when I saw him last, he will be on the
Bridge, pleading the officer in charge to be allowed to sit
in the CO's chair."

" ...and if he uses that pleading expression that he's so
good at, then I'm sure he will have succeeded. " Rangi
replied and linked arms with Shane as they began to move
towards the door.
"But first..." she added looking up at him "...I wont be
dissuaded from treating your injuries...we'll go to sickbay
and 'then' to the Bridge...ok? "

[Port Boarding Ramp - Deck 10 - USS Chimera NCC 96899-C]

Captain Cropa Rojac watched with his hands held tight behind his back as the figure stepped up to the security checkpoint at the entrance to the Chimera. He was a stocky man, with broad shoulders and a weightlifter's physique. He had close cropped brown hair in the military style, was clean-shaven, and held himself as if he was chiseled from stone. His uniform was neatly pressed, and looked to be as starched as his statuesque appearance. He had the typical Erassian air of arrogance about him, the same air common to a lot of Starfleet Marines, but Walters' file backed his attitude up.

As the man passed through the checkpoint and received an all clear from the officer on duty, the Captain stepped forward to greet his new partner. "Major Walters, welcome aboard the USS Chimera."

"Happy to be here Captain, definitely much happier than I was to be in the last few places I've been.  For a Starfleet ship the Chimera-C is quite well equipped and definitely a lot better designed than her predecessor, it should be quite interesting to work aboard her.  Likewise I look forward to working with you Captain Rojac, after the battle of Charos VI General Ivanov described you as one of the three people in Starfleet worth a damn at commanding a ship.  High praise coming from him."  Scott replied as he held out his hand to shake.

"That means a lot coming from the General." Rojac said. "He is a hard man to impress. Were you at Charos VI, Major?"

Scott hesitated a moment before answering. "At...may not be the the exact term..."

"On or under would be more suited" Said a loud voice slightly down the boarding ramp.  Both men turned to see Alecto walking towards them.  "Captain Rojac I've come to inform you and I suppose the new XO about a change in the Fighter Ops Department that the Brass from both our superiors are forcing through.  You're losing the flight of Z-105 Shadows and getting them replaced by an Erassian squadron of M-35A's.  The upside is a huge increase in firepower, the downside is you lose a measure of stealth and Commodore Guzman will likely blow a fuse."  Alecto said largely ignoring Major Walters.

Rojac nodded. "My yeoman informed me of the change but I appreciate the personal visit, Ambassador. Has Major 'Stormchild' been informed?" He asked. "She can get cranky when changes are made to her department without notification." The Captain was thankful she wasn't aboard when the technician caused one of her new missiles to have a warpcore breach in main engineering.

"By none other than Admiral Janeway herself, two days ago at Joint Defense Command Headquarters.  She also told her the reason for the transfer of an Erassian Squadron aboard and I have a feeling it's something more than a simple goodwill gesture.  Naturally to ensure the smooth operation of an Erassian Squadron aboard Chimera Anya's reserve Erassian rank was stepped up to Major meaning that the new XO will have no grounds to countermand her orders...is that clear Major Walters?"  Alecto said.

"Perfectly Ambassador.  I have been made well aware of what little value I hold for the Alliance, mostly I'll assuming calculated by Colonel Westbridge."  Scott replied bitterly.

"Just be glad you're worth enough to get a second chance...and you're wrong Colonel Westbridge didn't want to ruin your career, she wanted you imprisoned.  Only General Ivanov's mediation saved you that fate.  Show your gratitude and perform well for our valued allies."  Alecto said icily.  Turning to Rojac she said.  "I'd best let you get on with your preparations then Captain.  The best of luck to you and your crew on your mission."  With that she turned and descended the ramp.

"Being hard to impress might
be a Hybrid trait."  Scott said  deep in his own thoughts.

"Possibly, but it's not an exclusive trait, Major." Rojac said, turning his gaze away from the shapely figure of the retreating ambassador. "But she did just increase your workload. I'll need you to coordinate the transfer of the fighters aboard, and to personally oversee the assignment of their quarters. Then you need to assist Mr. Kroitzer in the installation of the stealth shielding."

"Well it's better to dive straight in I suppose.  If I sink and drown I get a decent christian burial but if I float I'll get burned alive, I'd guess at those lighting the match but these days there's rather a few people queuing up.  Don't worry Captain I'll get it done."  Scott replied.

"Thank you, Major." Rojac nodded. "I now have a strategy meeting with Captain Chisulo. Good luck, Major Walters."

"Thank you Captain"  {I'll probably need it.}  Scott thought to himself after all as far as he knew nobody had actually announced his arrival and investiture as XO aboard Chimera.  Things were going to be unpredictable to say the least...

[USS Chimera] SD 240907.30 | Joint Log | Adm. Janeway & *MGen.* Sharpe

OOC: You can go ahead and send if you're done! :)

= JDC Headquarters =

Given the recent state of things, Janeway was starting to think she was getting too old for her job. The Federation was so big by now that, no matter what you did, there was always some kind of conflict taking place. Unfortunately for her that she had to be the JDC Commander at the time that war broke out with the Romulan Empire, a Romulan Empire that was more brutal and hell-bent on destruction than ever since they made first contact with the Federation.

But, every now and then, something would happen to brighten her day. She took delight in the small things whenever she could, because at the end of the day the bigger picture wasn't always so pretty. One of these little delights she enjoyed was giving senior promotions, and tonight she had two promotions to take care of. She'd left them until last, hoping to end the day on a high note, or at least something higher than middle C.

Sitting at her desk, she waited patiently for her communique to be answered while the spinning SSF logo continued to rotate on the screen in front of her. The person she was waiting for was none other than Brigadier General Richard Sharpe, recently assigned as MEF Commander to the 1st Task Force HQ on Starbase Unity.

Richard found himself, at long last, in his quarters. It had been a tiring day of meetings and planning, but at last, he was able to relax. He’d left standing orders not to be disturbed for at least the next eight hours, unless it was something remarkably important. Laying on his new bed, and being on a Starbase did have its perks, especially at flag rank, meaning he had what could equate to a VIP ambassador suite on even a Galaxy class starship, he stretched out and grinned a cheesy happy grin.

Just at that moment, his desk computer beeped at him, indicating an incoming priority call. He got himself up off the bed, and hit the receive button. When the SSF logo disappeared, imagine his surprise when none other than Admiral Janeway was on the small screen. “Admiral Janeway.” He said. “This is somewhat of a surprise.”

"Richard," she greeted the general. "I hope I'm not catching you at a bad time? My assistant keeps telling me to check the time differences before I call, but I always forget."

“I’d just retired for the evening, and was trying out the very nice new bed.” He said, sheepishly.

"How are you settling in on Unity? Have everything you need?" Janeway asked.

“So far, everything seems to be satisfactory. I have a pain in the ass security chief to contend with, but I think I can handle him.” Richard said, smiling. “Getting the feeling I’m not really wanted here, but I’ll get over it.”

"Your presence there is of vital importance, I'm sure you know that," she explained. "But I didn't call you up to talk about that, I have something else to discuss." Off-screen she picked something up and held it out for him to see. "It appears your rank insignia is a bit out of date, General Sharpe... or should I say Major General Sharpe?"

“Major General?!” Richard exclaimed. “You want to promote me?!”

"Someone in your position with your authority needs to have the proper rank, and you've certainly earned it," she replied with a wry smile. "Unfortunately I can't present this to you myself, so the replicator will have to do."

Richard nodded, somewhat bewildered. “Thank you Admiral.” He said, finally.

"Well I won't keep you from your bed any longer. According to my information you're going to need all the rest you can get," she said with a nod. "Good luck, General. Janeway out."

The screen went blank, and as it did, the replicator whirred, and within the replicator was a dark wood presentation box. Richard took the box and opened it to examine the rank insignia for an Elite marine Major General…

Trent remained behind when the TF meeting concluded. He took another
glance over the plans to get more familar with the operation.

"Sir, you wanted to see me," Lieutenant Bannister said as he stood at
the entrance of the room.

"Yes, lieutenant. Would you have Commander Trzetrzelewska meet me here
in the next half hour?" Trent asked as he kept his attention to the
plans on the screen next to him.

"She just tried to contact you, sir," Bannister said.

"Very well. Have her meet me here in the next half hour," Trent said.

"Aye, sir," the marine said as he gave a sharp salute before exiting the
room.

Twenty minutes later, Trent saw Bannister return, followed by the
former Chimera XO.

"Thank you, lieutenant," Trent said as his returned his focus to the
operation plans. "You may leave us."

When Bannister exited for the second time, Trent looked up again.

"Commander, I'm sure you've talked with Captain Rojac by now about
your new command," Trent said.

"Yes, sir," Natalia replied with a firm nod. "As you can see, I
haven't even had the time to change into uniform since I've gotten
back from leave."

Trent allowed a slight grin. This was new for him and perhaps one of
the few perks of his job.

"I've gone over your records and this is a well deserved promotion,"
Trent said, walking over to Natalia and extending his hand.
"Congratulations."

Natalia took the offered hand and returned the firm shake. "Thank you, sir."

"As you know, the Rapier is undergoing repairs. But we can still make
this thing official," Trent said. "Computer, hand over all command
codes to the U.S.S. Rapier, NCC 61582, to Commander Natalia
Trzetrzelewska, authorization Captain Trent Rodgers, executive
officer, 1st Starfleet Special Forces Taskforce."

[Transfer Acknowledged]

"The Rapier is yours commander ... or should I say captain."

"That will take some getting used to," Natalia smiled.
