[USS Chimera] SD: 240902.14 Duty Log, Cmdr. Athena Wellington ||Shadows of Time||

Athena knew it would be a while and unless she got orders to move she was staying put.  With the back of her wrist; she wiped her brow and removed her tunic.  She patted the sweat off her chest with the tunic and then rolled it up and placed it under her head.  She closed her eyes and let out a soft sigh as a bead of sweat rolled down the middle of her back.  {Distract yourself.... think of something cool.} 

 

~~ Athena stood on the beach watching the waves roll toward the shore.  Her hair lifted off her neck in the breeze; as the sun began to set.  She smiled at the lavender, shades of red and pink that streaked across the sky.  The suns looking like twin glowing fires that had begun to cool.  She felt his warm strong arms come up behind her and she leaned back into him letting her head rest on his shoulder. 

"It's a nice view my love, you do pick them well. Reminds me of the skies over Ajiter Seven although there the company was far less pleasant.  As I recall I was surrounded by seven hairy blokes all intent on killing me and they were on my side!"  He said luxuriating in her perfumed smell and the warmth of her body.

"This is nice."  She took his hand and gave a tug saying, "Let's walk."  She tried to tug him toward the waters edge but didn't have any luck in moving him even an inch as he pulled her back to where she had been previously before.

"There are times in life Ma Cherie that you need to stay still and savor the moment as it will never come again.  The world is in chaos and worse things are coming.  Time is likely no longer on our sides.  Linger a bit longer with me my love."  He said wrapping his arms around her waist.

She settled back against his shoulder again and finished watching the suns set.  The sky changing to deeper purples and dark shades of blue.  With the  last orangey glow of the suns, "Beautiful," came out on a sigh. 

He brought his chin down so it caressed the hair on the side of her head "I think I'll miss being here like this.  I think the sand in the top half of the hourglass is about to run out."  ~~

Athena's body slide from its sitting position to the floor as beads of sweat popped out all over her skin.  Boom!  Boom!  "Commander," someone yelled.

 

~~  "What do you mean?"  She thought about turning in his arms but decided she wasn't quite sure that she wanted to see the expression in his eyes ... on his face.

 

His lips moved into a grave smile perhaps more sensed than seen. "You don't think we were exactly designed to go through our dotage do you?  Our time is limited both by design and destiny.  You may have forever my love, but I will have only now.  The final curtain will soon approach on the reign of Hybrid history."

The muscles in her throat worked and tears filled her eyes at his words.  She pulled away needed the space from the emotions that seemed to want to smoother her.  "What.... why... how,"  she shook  her head not sure which question she wanted answered first.

"You cannot cure time my love.  No one can not even the gods." He smiled and quoted "Though much is taken, much remains and though we are not now that strength which in old days moved heaven and earth; that which we are, we are.  One equal temper of heroic hearts made weak by time and fate but strong in will to strive, to seek, to find and not to yield.  But are we any longer strong?"

She turned around and her gaze met his darker intense one, "V....  ~~

 

"Viktor," slipped from her dry lips in the quietest of whispers.  Her eyes popped open and as her heart raced.  She wiped the sweat from her face and noticed fingers tips trying to pry the door open.  Not having much more energy than to crawl the short distance to the door and tried to help.
