[USS Chimera] SD0903.20 Joint Duty Log - Cmdr/MCapt XO/COps Natalia Trzetrzelewska and Jade Reese - "Approval of a Side Project"

=/\= XO's Ready Room, USS Chimera C =/\=

Walking onto the bridge Jade nodded to the operations officer on duty and also to the watch officer walking over to the XO's ready room Jade wanted to speak with her about the idea of the EOH (emergency operations hologram) idea that she came up with a few days ago. She hoped that the XO would agree and allow them to work on ideas on how to start creating the program. Once at the door to the ready room Jade hit the chime and waited to be invited in.

Commander Trzetrzelewska was busy studying a report when she heard the chime that announced MCaptain Reese. She had been keeping a low profile since Chimera's return to Unity and had requested some leave from Captain Rojac, but came into her ready room to do some work today as well as see MCaptain Reese.

"Enter," she said and looked up as the Operations Chief entered. "Captain Reese, please take a seat. Can I offer you anything from the replicator."

"Some coffee would be nice." Jade said taking a seat at the desk and setting the tablet on the desk. Taking a look around the office Jade noticed that it was similar to the Captains ready room, but it had the XO's own personal touch.

Natalia ordered two coffees from the replicator and when they materialised, brought them back to the desk and sat down. "What can I do for you today, Reese?" she said, placing Jade's cup down in front of her.

"As you know myself and a small team has been working on making a device to disrupt or at least bypass communication jammers and jamming field." Jade said, "but I've been looking through some recent reports dealing with adjustments that we must make at the end or sometimes durning our shift. These adjustments mainly deal with the EVS system and other systems that must be brought back to normal ranges." Jade said as she took a sip of her coffee.

"After performing one myself it's a lot of work that takes us away from other operations that must be performed, so I started to look at a hologram program that could perform these adjustments and all we would have to do was to double check the work the hologram did." Jade said taking a breath before continuing on, "so I just wanted to check with you if creating small team to work on this project would be alright with you?" Jade asked hoping that it would be.

"You know, that's actually a very good idea," Natalia said, leaning back in her chair and thinking about Jade's proposal. "Everyone knows personnel is stretched thin across SSF, so it makes sense to me. AI is no substitute for a human mind, of course, but with the correct personality subroutines, I'm sure it would work out just fine. How many people would your team consist of?"

"I would need at least five or six people to start working on the algorithms that the hologram would need to do what I want it to do." Jade said, "and then maybe three or four people from engineering to help write actual program and then help with the testing of it." Jade said, "and for a time frame it could be from 3 to 6 months that we would have a working program." Jade said realizing that it was going to take awhile, but in the long run it would be worth it.

"Do me a favour and involve some of the newly enlisted crew," Natalia suggested. "Some of them are just fresh out of the Academy and they don't have as much knowledge or experience as I'd like. I think a project like this could help them gain some experience, as long as it doesn't interfere with duties."

Jade nodded, "I'll use them to help locate the right algorithms and that will do two things get them familiar with the algorithms and also when we start writing the program they can see how that is done." Jade said rubbing her forehead, she didn't hate the new recruits mainly because she was one also, but with personnel so thinly stretched they didn't have a lot of time to train them, but that's the job of a department head.

"I look forward to reading your first report on the project," Natalia smiled. "If it works then maybe it's something that could be deployed on other ships throughout the fleet."

Jade let out a grin she had worked on small projects before, but nothing that could be disrupted through the fleet, "thank you commander for allowing me to start this side project." Jade said setting the coffee mug on the desk and making her way back to the bridge and the ODCC to check in on some stuff and then it was time for her to get some food.

"All right than, dismissed Captain Reese," Natalia nodded.
