[USS Chimera] SD 240907.15 | SB Unity | Personal Log, Cmdr Ohmsford (1TF Sci/Eng)

[ SB Unity - 1st Task Force Personnel Quarters ]

Bren sat on the edge of his new bed feeling emotionally drained and very frazzled. His skin was pale and the dark circles under his eyes spoke volumes about his sleeping habits. Since he'd returned to Unity on the Chimera, he'd had to move into new quarters because his old residence - the one he'd shared with Liev - was off-limits pending the conclusion of an investigation into Liev's disappearance and his subsequent replacement with a Chameloid agent.

The first thing he did was to try and find out what the hell happened and what the hell was going on, but he met with a brick wall at almost every turn. Shane wasn't on the station to talk to, Rangi was missing along with Liev, Major Kinn was not here and Captain Rodgers didn't know anything more than Bren did. Lieutenant Mumacik just gave him dead-pan answers when questioned and requested that Bren wait until Major Kinn or the Commodore returned... whenever that might be. Until then Bren was slowly going out of his mind.

Captain Rodgers had given him time off, but he'd quickly rejected it, knowing that he needed to stay busy otherwise he would go insane bit by bit. It was already hard enough, not knowing what was going on, if Liev was still alive or if he was dead. And every time he thought about it he shuddered to think that a Chameloid had shared his life, shared his bed, completely fooled him and the rest of the Task Force. He didn't even want to begin to think about the amount of information that could have been leaked and how many lives it put in danger.

And all that time he didn't notice anything. How could he not have noticed anything? Had he become that distant and wrapped up in his own little world that he didn't even notice when his partner had been replaced by a complete stranger? Only a few days ago he would have thought the idea ridiculous. Of course he would notice it. But now that it's become a reality, his own faith in his power of perception and his connection with Liev was somewhat shaken.

Bren looked at the nightstand where a small hypospray lay. The Infirmary had given him a sleeping agent to help him rest. So far he hadn't used it, mainly falling asleep from mere emotional exhaustion, but tonight his mind was over active and he just couldn't stop thinking. Perhaps it was a good time to start using it.

After a moment's hesitation, he reached over and took the hypospray. He looked at the setting, 12mg, and then placed the hypospray against his jugular before injecting. Almost immediately after he pressed the release he could feel the medication slowly begin to take effect. Putting the spray back on the nightstand, he lay back on the bed and stared for a few moments up at the ceiling before drifting off to sleep.
