[USS Chimera] SD 240909.12 || BETA || BACKLOG || JL || Capt Rojac, CO & Lt Kroitzer, CEO ||

=/\= Main Engineering – USS Chimera =/\=

Gustav had finished the installation of the stealth plating and was now coordinating his department's efforts in getting engineering ready for the next mission while in a Jeffries tube replacing a faulty EPS manifold.

"Captain on deck!" Called a voice near the entrance to the cavernous room.

As soon as he heard the call that the Captain was in engineering Gustav capped off the EPS lines that lead to the manifold so he could finish the replacement later, after the Captain had left Kroitzer's domain.

As he exited the tube Gustav spotted where the Captain was standing and quickly headed there.

Rojac walked around behind the Engineers at their workstations with his hands on his waist. He was studying an Ensign's progress in adjusting the plasma conduit manifolds when he heard hurried footsteps heading in his direction. He looked up to see the CEO bearing down on his position.

"Hard at work, Mr. Kroitzer?" Rojac said with a smirk hiding beneath his beard. "Surely you're leaving something for your department to handle?"

"Yes Sir and there is always more work to be done on this ship Captain, we don't exactly treat her gently" Gustav said while snapping off a salute.

The Captain returned the gesture. "Its a good leadership style, Lieutenant. Keep it up." He put his hands behind his back and began walking around the gangway surrounding the  pulsating warp core. "She hasn't been giving you any trouble has she?" Rojac asked, tilting his head toward the subject of discussion. "I've noticed some mild efficiency fluctuations in your last couple of reports. Lieutenant Dior at the helm says its part of the 'fine tuning'."

"Aye Sir in the days of motor cars and combustion engines you used to have to run in an engine to harden the parts so that when you floored it you wouldn't blow it up."

Rojac admired the tall, pulsating structure before him, basking in its cool blue glow. "It is an engine I suppose. But I don't see how the mechanics of a simple fuel combustion engine can compare to the sheer power of a matter/antimatter reaction." The Captain said.

"Well the ship is a bit like that only being the flagship of the SSF we don't get the luxury of a run in period so, we have to replace items slightly more regularly than some other ships causing your power fluctuations".

Rojac nodded. "Well, I wouldn't want a part to fail in the middle of a battle, would I?" He placed his hands on his hips and turned to walk toward the master systems display station in the main foyer. "You don't have any outstanding projects I should know about before Red Alert tomorrow, do you Lieutenant?"

Thinking how camp the captain looked with his hands on his hips Gustav managed to stifle a giggle "No Sir no projects on the go, well none that would jeopardise the mission anyway" he explained.

"Is there something funny, Lieutenant?" Cropa had turned to see the awkward contortions of Gustav's face as he stifled the chuckle. He removed the hands form his hips, and crossed his arms in front of his chest.

"No Sir, nothing at all" Gustav answered.

The Captain eyed the engineer conspicuously as if doubting the integrity of the answer, but he quickly decided to shrug it off. "I guess its nothing then." He muttered.

"There is one thing I wished to ask you about though Sir, although it isn't about engineering".

"Ask away, Lieutenant." Rojac answered.

"Well I was wanting to ask you about me integrating some personal defence into my arm, something like a small phaser".

The Captain's eyebrows raised. "Planning on taking Major Cortez's job, Mr. Kroitzer? Or is that phaser on your hip just not enough?" Rojac quipped. "I was unaware of the heightened crime levels here in engineering." He broadly wave his arm across the bustling cave. "Joking aside though, Mr. Kroitzer. Is there a specific need for this prosthetic upgrade or is it just cosmetic for your amusement?"

"It would be more of a last resort weapon as it would probably destroy the power relays in the prosthetic, it would be used in emergencies like if I were to get captured or find that my sidearm isn't there on non functional" he explained.

"A last resort." Rojac repeated. "Well if I guess you're going to get use it then you better make it count, Lieutenant. It's your arm, Lieutenant, you can do with it what you want. Make sure you check it in like any other weapon with security first." The Captain said. He wondered what hassles Lieutenant Mumacik would give the engineer on their next visit to UNITY.

"Aye sir, will do" he replied slightly surprised that he had the Captains permission.

"Anyways, your department checks out, Lieutenant." Rojac said. "Good work. If you have any questions you know where to find me."
