[USS Chimera] SD: 240912.01 Joint Personal Log Cpt.Trent Rodgers & Lt.MaiKai Rodgers

=Main Sickbay=
=Starbase UNITY=

After helping MaiKai into sickbay, Trent took a seat in the waiting room. As Trent wondered how Mai was doing, he found himself a bit nervous and was surprised by this. He rarely talked to her whenever he visited Rick, which were rare occasions. He just didn't have much to say to his sister-in-law to have a conversation with her.

Now, though, he was concerned about her well-being and pissed that Rick wasn't here. During the past couple of hours, no one had bothered to tell him anything.

'Damn it, I'm the XO around here. I can order someone to talk,' he thought to himself as he nervously waited.

A few minutes later, a nurse came up to Trent and told him that he could go in and see MaiKai. He followed the nurse to where she was laying.

"How are you feeling?" he asked, taking a seat next to her.

"Okay.." she tried to muster.  In all actuality she was feeling too many things at once to answer this question respectively.

"What did they say?" he asked.

"The baby is definately coming soon. They're probably running around getting everything prepped," she was sweating profusely and felt a little dizzy.  She didn't want to worry, Trent.  She would just let a nurse or doctor know depending on who came in first.

"The Chimera arrived a few days ago. Ricky told me that your cousin was stationed there. Do you want me to get her?"

"No. I'll be fine," MaiKai really didn't want to trouble her cousin.  They had enough of a past she didn't want to trouble her on her rest and relaxation. Though she probably wouldn't mind..

"You sure?" Trent responded. "I mean, I'll be here as long as you need me, but she is a doctor and could be more helpful."

"Yeah.." she let her words linger. {{ Where is that nurse?!?! }}  Mai was starting to lose self-control which she had prized all her life.

Trent had a bad feeling that he was going to have to play the role of Rick here. The good thing is, Trent had more experience in this situation than Rick. Everything Trent had learned through Sarah's two pregnancies rose from his innermost thoughts. The breathing and coaching and the screaming. He was more prepared than Rick could ever be.

Just then a nurse approached. Trent intercepted her out of earshot from Mai.

"How soon?" Trent asked.

"Hours, perhaps. Maybe sooner," the nurse responded.

"Where is Doctor Summers?" Trent wanted the chief medical officer to be involved.

"She is unavailable at the moment."

"How 'unavailable'?"

"I can't say," the nurse answered.

"Has she at least been informed?" Trent asked.

"Yes."

"And?"

"She's busy at the moment, but she will do her best to be here. Now, please sir, I need to take a couple of readings before we can prep Doctor Rodgers."

Trent shook his head, allowing the nurse to do her job. He watched from a distance before seeking out the nearest comm link to somehow get word to his brother.

"Excuse me," Mai said through gritted teeth. She didn't mean to. Just the wave of pain she felt when she went to speak almost automatically shut her jaw tight for her.

The nurse whipped around, "Yes, Doctor".

"Ah, I thought for a moment YOU FORGOT I WAS HERE," Mai demanded an explanation.  She hated it when she got the talk-around.

"Dr. Rodgers, we are doing the best we can here," the nurse respectively replied with out batting an eye lash.

"Well, do you want to ummm ... I don't know ... TRY HARDER," Mai really was not in the mood for some curt, automatic replies

The nurse just smiled politely and walked in the other direction.  They really were trying to do all things to prep for Mai since they weren't sure when she would be delivering.
