[USS Chimera] SD: 240812.18 Joint Log Unity-234 Amb. Ayami & 2ndLt. Nyx

<<occurs sometime between Mnemosyme's first meeting with Vlimar and drinks later.>>

Alecto dropped from the cockpit of her Hybrid Bowfighter landing heavily on the deck.  The pain in her arm was fairly intense but she easily ignored it.  In the small spare parts compartment at the rear of the fighter she pulled out a small black case and shut the compartment back up. She remotely armed the security and went over to sit on a nearby crate.

Mnemosyme was still people watching ignoring the latest message from her  boss.  She had changed sites where she would practice her profiling skills.  this new place was much more interesting as she could give into flights of fancy if she desired in spinning a tale.   However, when an Errassian diplomat arrived Nym couldn't ignore her curiosity any longer.  She walked closer and watched the woman intently.

Noting the interest she was getting from the sidelines Alecto said "Here hold this for a moment" and tossed the black case to the woman with her remaining good arm. Now unencumbered Alecto stripped off the top half of her flight suit ignoring the pain as the crusted scab on her right arm tore away from the deep cut.   "Get me out a bottle of the alcohol in there would you?"

Nym caught the bag and was about to set it down upon hearing the question.  She gave a slight nod and pulled out one of the bottles and handed it to the other woman.  "I could fix that up for you if you'd want," Nym offered.  {Normally I wouldn't bother to be so helpful but it almost seems like she can hardly use it.  Surely a little first aid won't hurt.}
Alecto pour the alcohol over the wound and a little into the wound itself to make sure it was clean.  "That's okay.  I've got this one covered.  If you can pass me what looks like a oversized tube of super glue next please."

Nym shrugged and got out the requested tube.  Instead of handing it to the other woman, Nemosyme grabbed her arm and started to repair the injured arm. however she quickly changed her mind and handed the tube over when she noticed the slight glow in her finger tips.  "Sorry, I shouldn't have been so impulsive," Nym started, "or intrusive," she finished as she began to walk away.

"Stay you may find this interesting."  Alecto squeezed the contents of the tube into the wound and pressed both sides of the wound together.  "This stuff essentially works like super glue but is based around biological cells so in essence is replacement tissue.  It numbs the area around the wound and restores muscle attributes within 20 seconds.  The Alliance developed it for use on the battlefield and is a hell of a lot less fiddly an lot more robust than most Federation medical tools."

"I'll take your word for it.  I don't use the infirmaries for much more than to have the mandatory physical done," Nym said honestly.

"I avoid using them at all, hence why I'm familiar with field surgery tools."  Alecto replied evenly.

Nym nodded, "Like I said I didn't mean to be intrusive and you super glue seems to be doing its job."  She did a precision turn and began to retreat.  {I need to find better things to do with my down time.}

Alecto looked up "Thank you for your concern anyway.  It's not often someone on your side would even look twice at an injured Erassian especially a Hybrid like myself given all the general distrust emanated out by the higher ups.  I guess I owe you a drink next time I see you off duty."

"Its not a problem and I'm usually pretty good at picking out the trouble and staying away from it," Nym said; while thinking {now before we get to names would be a good time to get away.}

"The thanks remain anyway Lieutenant Nyx...and speaking of trouble I should probably go and report in to General Ivanov before he sends a Bloodhound unit after me.  It was nice talking to you."  Alecto pushed herself up without too much difficulty and walked back over to her fighter where she climbed up to the cockpit to retrieve a few items.

*** Pakosii's Office, SB UNITY ***

Stephen Jacobs interlocked his fingers and released a long
breath as he settled back into a slightly new position on
his chair, thinking that the reaction this event generated
was expected but still worthy of note.

Two of the four marines turned their heads to look at him
with cold stares.

The other two had had him in their line of sight since he
arrived in the office over an hour earlier and now set their
attention on him fully.

Pakosii too looked up from his seemingly endless work at his
desk. He was used to officers waiting for the valuable time
of the Commodore, but it was not common that they had to
wait like the Chief counselor.

Stephen glanced at them all in turn before returning his
attention to a line drawing picture of Unity which he now
knew inside out but they all seemed to relax if he stared at
it instead of them.

Finally, Pakosii's console indicated green for the visitor
and Pakosii addressed the doctor. "Doctor Jacobs, the
Commodore is now awaiting you …"

"Thank you." Stephen said, getting to his feet and
acknowledging Pakosii with an inclination of his head.
"Gentlemen." he added glancing at the marines in turn and
walked to door, tapped softly upon it and went inside.

"Commander" Shane said in greeting as Jacobs entered the
room. "Please take a seat. Anything to drink?"

"Commodore...good of you to see me." Stephen replied and as
he approached the offered seat, requested a cup of black
coffee, no sugar.

Placing the requested drink on the table in front of Jacob,
Shane asked: "So, what's the reason for your visit
Commander?"

" Thank you." He touched the saucer briefly and waited until
Shane was seated too. " A query." he said. " I understand
that you have carried out certain 'security' checks on one
of my staff. May I ask why?"

He observed Shane for the first time, having seen him
previously only from a distance. He knew the Commodores
career history, in fact he had gone to some lengths to
access counseling reports.

Now he spoke in a friendly manner and his expression was
pleasant enough as he made his request but he took in every
tiny fragment of 'body language'

"News spread fast" Shane said and leaned a bit back in
his seat. "You are right, Lieutenant Nyx is a subject of
counter intelligence investigation, but the actual reasons
are classified." He ended the sentence with no explanation
at all and waited if the Chief counselor would be happy with
his answer.

"I respect that of course Commodore." Stephen replied. "I
too have certain things that must remain confidential unless
under very exceptional circumstances.." He lifted his cup
and took a sip of the strong coffee.

" The Lieutenant in question is still under training but in
my line of work..as in yours. the learning never ends. I
hope you will keep that in mind." He watched Shane as he
took another sip.

Shane scratched his chin and replied: "Now I am not sure
what you mean doctor, but I am glad you understand my
reasons. I can assure you that once the investigation is
over and all is fine, there will be no further
"attention" from Intel on that Lieutenant."

"Attention from Intel is a way of life here." Stephen said "
Trust no one?" He gave a small smile.

"I'll be honest with you, doctor" Shane said looking
straight at his chief counselor, "Since I was Chimera's
XO and later CO, I was used to a small group of senior
officers I knew I could trust. Since I became task force CO,
the group changed somewhat, but a great deal of my ex-senior
staff became my advisors. But now … on UNITY, there are
way too many new faces in many positions and it will take me
time to learn to trust them. I was used to a single
counselor for long years … Commander Wellington. She was
more then a counselor, she was a friend. For you … and now
I mean all of your department, it will take a lot of effort
to get to at least some level of trust and working
relationship that I had with Commander Wellington."

" I appreciate your honesty Commodore." Stephen replied.
"..and I should add that it works both ways. Some of us have
been here on Unity for a long time and its you who are the
newcomer who we have to trust."

His smile widened as though he had an inner joke that he
kept to himself. "My junior counselor is a young lady who
has not yet learned to think on a wider scale. If you choose
to hear her counsel then I will not interfere. I am not
warning but merely advising and whether you choose to listen
is of course your own decision."

"Oh, I have not made my mind yet, doctor" Shane replied.
"As you said right, I am the new one on this station and
it will need time to know each other." He grinned: "But
taking your and mine position, the CO is always the
responsibility of the head counselor …"

A light starter to blink on Shane's console and with a
slight sigh, he turned back to Jacob's and said: "If
there is nothing else, doctor, I must excuse myself now"

" Thankyou for your time Commodore. Its been a pleasure to
meet you and I hope we will do so again." He held out his
hand.

"The pleasure is mine, doctor" Shane replied and shook
the offered hand.

[USS Chimera] SD240812.17 Joint Personal Log - CNS/COps Cmdr/1Lt Athena Wellington and Jade Reese

=/\= Chief counselor's Office =/\=

Athena sat in her office for a while after Anya had left. She had
written up the results of the last couple of evaluations and checked
the reports on a couple that Mimi had managed to track down and give.
She was lost deep in her own thoughts but able to help any one who
might come her way.

Walking up to the counseling office and hit the chime to let the
counselor know that someone wanted to see her. She then started wonder
if this was the right idea she doesn't even know where to start
explaining the sensation she got that night during the ceremony.

At the sound of the chime Athena was jerked out of her thoughts, "Enter."

Jade walked in and headed over to where the Commander was sitting she
was feeling nervous she's never been to see a counselor the closest
thing she had to seeing a counselor was the psyche evaluation when she
joined the SFMC. After looking around Jade walked over to one of the
chairs and sitting down.

Athena gave the woman a warm smile when she saw who it was and stood
from her desk. "Come on in I don't bite.... well at least not
usually."

Jade returned the smile and took a few minuets to look around the
office and thinking on how to start telling this women about the
strange sensation she had at the party last night.

{{Come on you know you have a million questions you want to ask.......
Just blurt one out.}} "Please, take a seat," Athena said indicating
the homing look chair with the fleece throw draped over the back.

"First I'm not sure on how to even describe what happened last night."
Jade said finally, "it felt like I was able to pick up on what
everyone was thinking that night." Jade said.

"Perhaps you were," Athena stated simply and waited for the other
woman to process a bit more of what she was thinking.

"I know there are races out there have the ability to listen and even
communicate without even seeing the person they're trying to
communicate with, but according to my family history there is no one
with those abilities." Jade said sounding confused.

"Do you know all about the lineage on both sides or did you make
assumptions," Athena asked, but continued with a more reassuring
phrase as well, "sometimes senses can develop when we least expect
them to." {Like my telekinesis.}

Jade was about to speak, but then she felt that sensation again of
hearing someone speaking even though no one was speaking to her, "will
I just trusted what my mother told me, so it might be true that
somewhere someone has one of those kinds of abilities." Jade said
smiling.

Athena smiled back, "that sounds logical and sometimes it just takes
awhile for those abilities to kick in... especially if we're not aware
of or using them." {{Would you like something to drink?}}

Jade nodded and decided if it is true that she does have this ability
she would try and use it like she maybe did last night at the party
she concentrated on what kind of drink she wanted. {{Peppermint tea.}}
She thought and waited to see if the counselor received the message or
not.

Athena smiled and got up; going to the replicator she retrieved two
beverages. She placed a warm cup of peppermint tea in front of the
other women and sat down with her own glass of water. "You didn't
specify whether you wanted hot or iced tea; I hope you don't mind that
its hot?"

"No that's fine." Jade said smiling picking up the cup and taking a small sip.

The two chatted for a bit longer before Athena cautioned, "Remember
not to be intrusive to others and don't push a new talent too
quickly." She finished her water, "And please feel free to ask me for
help at anytime."

Jade nodded, "I understand it's just going to take some time to get
used to it and how to keep it in check." Jade said finishing up her
peppermint tea and standing up realizing that she was five minuets
late for her duty shift. "Again thank you for speaking with me and
helping me through this." Jade said smiling as he headed to the door.

*** Sickbay * Chimera-C ***

( The more she thought of it, the better it became and the
uncertainty disappeared as her thoughts grew more and more
positive. It took little to convince herself that once they
both got used to the idea, then it would be a wonderful
thing for both herself, Shane and little Martin. So it was
that when Scott turned and walked back to her, he saw hope
in her eyes when she looked at him. She sat up and there was
eagerness in her voice when she asked: " You have the
result?...what is it?" )

Scott was surprised, for her earlier comment of 'we can rule
it out' was certainly at odds with the tone of her voice now
and also with the expression he saw in her bluegrey eyes, so
he paused a moment before he replied.

"It's negative." he said in an even tone and saw a light die
in her eyes.

"Oh" was all she said and he knew that she wanted a
different answer.

She leaned against the edge of the biobed and reached down
to slip on her shoes.
{ Negative... oh... well...its probably for the best...it
wouldnt have been such a good thing...not really...not now}
she told herself { ..not with the threat hanging over
us....} and the positive outlook she had convinced herself
with only a few moments before was crushed away.

She dragged her thoughts back to concentrate on what Scott
was saying about anti sickness medication.

"...so a short course of Dexsetrin...you shouldnt experience
any side effects from that..." he looked at her with
encouragement "..and in the mean time try to eat proper
meals...toast is 'not' a meal!"
She smiled thinly.
" Try something light..." he said "..little and
often...dont overload your system ok?"

She nodded. " Ok...I'll eat more than toast and not
overload."

"Good." he said as though he was dispensing great wisdom and
teaching her something she didnt know. He smiled to her and
laid a hand on her shoulder. " You need to rest too..take
things easy for a bit."

"Can't do that I'm afraid." she said briskly " ...Captain
coming to visit...and I have the transporter system to check
out this morning."
Her expression told him there was no reply to be made. " You
on the other hand need to get back to bed." she said then
added with more seriousness;
"Scott... I do appreciate you coming down here....I didnt
want to ask anyone else."

He looked down at her and patted her shoulder understanding
the reason why.
Rumours spead fast and he could imagine how soon the
Commodore would have been told he was going to be the father
of triplets.
"It's what friends are for." he answered softly then turned
away. " Right...lets get the medication for you."

He disappeared into the dispensary and returned a short
time later holding a small bottle of pale pink pills which
he handed to her. "One three times a day before meals" he
said.

"Thankyou." She took the bottle and looked at it.

" A pleasure." he said and they exchanged a smile glad that
things were sorted out.

++

Scott returned to his quarters to finish his interrupted
sleep but kept recalling the look in her eyes when he had
said 'Negative'.
It puzzled him, for surely she couldnt want a pregnancy with
the situation as it was. In the end he put it down to a
latent mother instinct and drifted off to sleep.

++
Rangi spent the morning with the transporter chief testing
and retesting the transporter system in finest detail.
By early lunchtime she was feeling hungry but not wanting
to risk having to leave the mess hall in a hurry, elected to
return to her quarters and replicated some chicken soup.

She sat down at the table with the bowl in front of her and
eyed it with a little trepidation as she swallowed one of
the pale pink pills.
She lifted the soup spoon and gingerly took a sip of the
broth. It tasted good and she sipped a little more,
eventually enjoying all of it.
She half expected the now familiar wave of nausea to follow
it but nothing happened and she returned to her office not
thinking about babies very much at all but feeling glad that
the problem was so easily solved.
