[USS Chimera] || UNITY || SD 240909.16 TF CO Duty Log, RAdm. Shane Guzman

"shane.guzman@mojwap.sk" <shane.guzman@mojwap.sk> wrote to chimera@ucip.org:

===== Shane's office, SB 234 : UNITY
======

Somewhat irritated, Shane threw the PADD he was just holding
against the wall. Following the physical rules, it hard
landed on the wall, bounced somewhat back and landed on the
floor – with the display broken. The PADD was all
innocent, of course, but the content made Shane quite
unhappy. It was a report from Engineering about his request
to scan the entire star base for components that could be
used to create an organic explosive. Engineering was
diplomatic in the reply, but the point was clear – the
base was too large for a full detail scan and there were too
many possible components to be scanned for. A draft scan of
just one civilian sector on decks 100-110 revealed 79
possible dangerous substances. Scanning the entire station
would require 4 weeks and would result in estimated number
of 10.000 found results. {Damn}

Truth was that Shane was dead in waters with the
investigation of Explosive cargo bay three explosions. Clues
pointed towards Romulan origins of the attack, but he was
unable to find out more. It was now when he missed his Chief
of fleet level security, because it seemed that LT. Mumacik
had a 'sense' for finding new clues and connecting the old
ones. It was funny to think about senses for an emotionless
guy like Mumacik, but it was just as it was.

Adding pain to injury, Shane had to deal with the day-to-day
routine of a fleet commander as well. Now when he was back
on UNITY, he could not expect Captain Rodgers to take care
of all the paper work issues and to dodge all the
'important' calls from Starfleet various departments. At
least, there was LT. Pakosii, his aide, who did a great job
dodging such calls, but not even he could dodge them all. As
the Romulan War gain on intensity, more and more Starfleet
branches took part and more and more reports had to be
filled, answered, added, commented or approved. UNITY became
with final authority the lead point of the entire war, home
base for most of the war employed units and main logistic
point of all operations within the adjacent sectors.
Hundreds and thousands of marines, naval NCO and officers
came a left the base within a week, tenths of Starfleet and
allied ships docked and left and even the civilian traffic
seemed to intensify since the start of the war. Some said
that 'war is god for business' …

Reports from the fronts were in general pleasing. Romulans
were currently in defensive and all three sides –
Federation, Erassian Alliance and Klingon Empire did their
best to win as much advantage as their could. Magna
operation (where most of 1st TF forces were involved in) was
running well the same. Reaching objectives was hard and time
schedule was already in delay, but there were no major
setback happening …. yet. Shane was surprised about the
quality of reports submitted by General Sharpe – he never
thought the General to be a 'deck job friendly' man, but it
was that Shane was wrong, or that the General employed
skilled aides.

There was much of other business that came to Shane's
attention. One of them was Rangi's report about sending the
dead bodies of Samantha Palmer and Nicolas Harker to Andoria
– to the Medical Research Investigation unit facility. She
hoped for more details about the 'came from other dimension'
point of her own investigation. Shane needed to know where
exactly the bodies came from and if it was expected to
encounter more folks from the other dimension … maybe even
more Nicolases Harker.

[USS Chimera] SD 240909.15 || BRAVO || Bridge Log || Part II ||

[Bridge - Deck One - USS Chimera NCC 96899-C]

"Target's acquired." Levison called.

"We are in attack range, Captain." Dior confirmed.

"Fire!" Rojac ordered.

Levison's fingers hammered the panel before him, activating the weapons systems that the Captain had ordered fired. The deflector beneath the Chimera's saucer pulsed with energy, an energy that flared around the two incoming scout vessels and removing the shielding that protected them from enemy fire. Following this, Levison punched in commands to launch a spread of quantum torpedoes, the blue-white warheads flashing with quick succession from the starship's launchers.

The intervening distance in space was far too small for the scouts to evade and the unshielded vessels took a great deal of damage before they could veer off into evasive maneuvers.

"Tactical - Report Status of enemy vessels" Walters said in his all business tone.

"Heavy damage inflicted on both vessels... one has severely compromised engines and life support, the other we've taken their port weapons array offline, but they're still in the fight," Levison
responded, "Captain, there are two Romulan Warbirds on intercept, firing range in fifteen seconds!"

"That's the distraction." Rojac said, leaning forward in his chair. "Carpenter, where's the Eagle?"

"They are making a pass at the station sir," Mercedes responded. "They're attempting to transport."

"Good." Rojac said. "Helm hard to port. Mr. Vaughn boost dorsal shields. Levison, activate the point defense turrets and arm the lateral phaser arrays."

Ian started tapping away at his console adjusting the power flow from certain parts of the ship and having it flow into the dorsal shields. "Dorsal shields boosted 20%." Ian said continuing looking for more to give to the shields while not compromising other systems.

"Point defense turrets active and tracking," Levison responded, knowing that Commander Kilbain in the bowels of the vessel would be keeping a close eye on the system, ready for manual fire if it went down, "Lateral phasers, aye." Checking the console before him again, he grimaced as he reported grimly: "Incoming fighters sir... and warbirds are in firing range. One hell of a hornet's nest out there."

Walters pressed the panel on the arm of his chair opening a preassigned comm channel.  "Lancer Squadron, Windhover Squadron, Sun God.  Launch authorization is granted, good hunting." Even on the Bridge a roar could be heard as the AX-02 Lancers brought their engines to their full safe operating power.

"Ops," Rojac hollered at the Lieutenant manning the console, "assign the fighters to the incoming squadron. We'll handle the warbirds." He quickly turned back to the screen and grimaced as Lieutenant Dior executed a dizzying barrel roll in order to dodge an incoming array of disruptor blasts.

Ian nodded and made a quick message and sent it to the Wing CO hoping that she would get it  he also made sure it contained coordinates that he got from helm. "Our fighters should intercept the Romulan fighters in seconds." Ian said returning to maintaining the power flow for all the systems that are being used and also keeping an eye the sensors.

"Shit!" The profanity escaped from her painted lips. "Brace for impact!" The talented helm officer dodged the first volley, but the second warbird had successfully predicted her flightpath - the Chimera was pegged on her dorsal shields. The structural integrity fields shuddered and the lights flickered slightly on the bridge. Luckily, Vaughn had boosted the dorsal shields.

"Report!" Rojac called to Walters.

"Minor power surge on Deck Ten caused a EPS Conduit to blow out. Damage to Transporter Room 4.  Hull integrity is unaffected.  Incoming reports of burned crewmembers, nine so far being moved to sickbay. Damage control teams have been notified and are en route."  Walters confirmed.

The Captain swiveled over to face the CTac, "Commander, Sulu-Sigma".

As the Chimera swung up onto its port nacelle, Mike with a look of intense concentration locked target on the warbird that had just managed to damage the shields. Using his other hand, he hammered the torpedo controls sending a withering spread of quantum torpedoes at the enemy ship's engines. They struck unerringly, blasting through shields that had already been peppered with many phaser attacks from the starship. Flame erupted from the exploding propulsion systems at the rear of the green-hulled warbird before the entire vessel was engulfed in an expanding fireball.

To add to the small victory, the Chimera's auto-targeting pulse phasers had locked onto a passing scout ship as the ship completed its looping maneuver and sent a flurry of bright phaser bolts at it, striking the ship's core drive and detonating it. "Two enemy ships destroyed Captain. One D'Deridex and a scout down, only another ten or so to go."

A wide grin appeared on the pleased Captain's face. Levison was good, and the Captain finally had a tactical officer he could keep. "Next target!" He called.

"Sir I've just received confirmation away teams have made it onto the station." Ian said closing out the communication logs on his console going to give more power to weapons and shields seeing that they were going to need it as the battle continued. "Sir power flow to the sensors is faltering the stealth armor is drawing too much power." Ian said as read through the power flow reports.

Walters interrupted before Rojac could speak. "Reroute power from life support leaving just minimal levels.  Also cut off power to these sections of the ship."  He input the details into a padd and sent them to the ops console.  The young Lieutenant had a moments hesitation looking round at him for a split second.  "Those warbirds get a decent lock on us, breathing isn't going to be high up on the agenda..."

"Captain, I'm detecting anomalous energy readings coming from the base, including a large concentration of gravitons," Mercedes reported. "It's affecting the micropore structure in subspace, almost like a wormhole. Running a cross check against the database."

Walters got up from his chair and moved over to the science displays beside the new Deputy Science Chief.  "The energy signatures are similar to something I've seen before but less refined and powerful. The phase variance is off too.  It seems like it works on the same principles as what I saw but in a different manner.  What I saw previously was a bizzarre method of FTL travel to move a ship but this is more like a tunnel...a new type of transwarp conduit maybe?"

"No, that's not it," Mercedes said to the XO and pointed at a new set of readings. "The ring is emitting a magneton pulse that's creating a subspace distortion. I'm picking up quantum variances through the distortion. It looks like they're trying to open a dimensional gate."

Turning towards Rojac, she added, "Captain, these readings match the operating mechanism of the transdimensional device."

The insistent and quite annoying beeping from Levison's tactical sensors caused the veteran Commander to glance across at the panel, his planned phaser assault on the second warbird forgotten momentarily. His eyes narrowed as he glanced down the new list of targets coming into view from the dimensional gate and he groaned, inwardly. "Sir... we have a serious problem. Three Thalaron cruisers are exiting the portal! They have further escorts as well! Two more D'Deridex Class warbirds and four more scouts!"

"Holy hell." Rojac whispered. A dimensional gate. Was this how the Romulans had made such advancements in the recent years, by recruiting from alternate universes? It would explain a lot. But how did they come across the dimensional devices? The Chimera had destroyed one, and another was held tightly at the R&D vaults on Earth.

Levison's console reported a new message once more, this time however from his communications panels rather than the sensors or weapons. "Captain... we are being hailed," Mike grimaced, looking directly at the Captain's chair and away from his panels for a moment.

"Bring it up on the main display Commander Levison."  Walters said still in his business tone.  His mind still partly on the readings from the dimension gate which looked all to similar to those created by a piece of tech salvaged from the ship buried beneath the surface of Charos VI. {Dimension Rippers} He thought with an involuntary shiver going up his spine.

+Federation vessels this is Riov Reth'ah of the Falcore.+ A scarred, sharp featured Romulan Captain appeared on the screen. +You are outnumbered, stand-down and surrender.+

Chimerans!

Big announcement this week:
Our Deputy Game Master, Mr. Bren Ohmsford, has decided to go into the sim development business. UCIP rules and regulations however prohibit him from being in a command position for more than one simulation, and as such he has asked my permission to pursue this new style of simulation and step down from the XO spot of the USS Chimera & First Taskforce simulation. I agreed to his demands.
In his stead, we both agreed on the selection of an existing command team member to fill his now empty shoes. As of this posting Ixus will assume the role of Deputy Game Master of the simulation, and will be granted all rights and privileges therein. Bren will be providing him guidance in the coming weeks, and will still act as a voting member of the Command Team - just not in the executive role.
Them Command team now consists as such:
    Rojac    -    Game Master
    Ixus    -    Deputy Game Master
    Bren    -    Voting Member
    Rangi    -    Voting Member
    Muma    -    Voting Member
Congratulations Ixus!

Plot-wise. I will be releasing the latest edition of the current bridge log following the posting of this report. Thing will definitely heat up. I know RL is heating up, but I ask your continued support as the plot progresses. We were doing so well in R&R, let carry it over to the plot. Group leaders: things are slowing down - do what you can to heat things back up. I will be contacting you for status reports.

If you have any questions, you know who to ask.
Thanks,

+rojac

XO's Address
----------------------
Greetings Everyone,

This will be the last XO Report from me as the command team is undergoing some OOC changes, but I just want to say it was such great fun being the XO of the Chimera for the last two years... this sim really is one in a million!

In other news... the plot is moving forward and Chimera is getting herself into hot water pretty soon. Expect the Rapier and the Eagle to the rescue. :)

Oh, and remember it's Bravo Group, not Beta Group (Alpha, Bravo & Charlie). And Frankie, remember to add the group label to your log title!

Have a great week and have fun!

=/\= MISSION SUMMARY/QUOTES OF THE WEEK =/\=
==============================================
-------------------------
- Summaries (Rangi)
-------------------------

Alpha - Bren

On Norris VIII-A, 2Lt Winters' team continue their attack on the Romulan communications outpost. Back on Padassa, Major General Sharpe expresses his hatred for paperwork and orders around a few fighter squadrons.

Beta - Rojac

The Captain drops in on the Tactical Department and asks the CTAC and DCTAC to analyze the reasons behind the sensor interference in the Stellar Nursery. Later, he visits the CEO in Engineering, who asks permission to turn into Mega Man. On the bridge, Red Alert is called, crew are sent to battle stations and the ship warps toward the site of battle. Major Cortez has his team suit up and meet with LtMaj Shao's team for transport to the Eagle. The Chimera drops out of warp into an artificial "pocket" within the nebula that houses a very strange looking supply base - and several Romulan war ships. Dr. Quoicho executes her duties given to her by Dr. Fisher as the ship preps for battle.

Charlie - Ixus

The precision coordinated attack on the R'Veras is <finally> under way.  Ghost Flight infiltrates R'Veras V airspace by slipping in through the magnetic disturbance at the north pole then heads south for the first strike on the enemy base's power cores.  Simultaneously an Erassian agent in place aboard one of the defense stations blows up the main power core causing massive damage to the station knocking it out of commission.  Just as this happens the Erassian Task Force drops out of warp and begins to attack.

Delta - Rik

none.

Unity - Rangi

Shane questioned Mnemosyme on what she could recall of the explosion and why she was in the area at the time. He thought something was odd but couldn't work out exactly what it was. Trent Rodgers visited Chloe Utley in the Brig and discovered that fear for her familys safety had led her to work for the Romulans. Jade was feeling a little better and decided to do some work on a programme she had had to postpone before meeting T'Vel again. T'Vel had the results from the quantum biofrequency study on the two bodies of Nicholas Harker. The results comfirmed the suspicion that one body was from an alternate universe. Rangi decided to send them to the Medical Research Investigation unit for further study.

- Quotes of the Week (by CORTEZ)

-------------------------

You can never be too careful...

''Balls?'' Barnes told him. Andrus snapped to attention, jokingly. ''Check!'' He whispered tapping on his crotch, which made a hard noise.

''Is that a protective cup, Cadet?'' Barnes asked him, somewhat incredulous, barely holding a chuckle.

Jones walked to them. ''You don't need that. When they shoot at you, they usually don't miss, even less get at arms length.''

Andrus shrugged and nodded. ''I did not know, sorry.'' They patted him on the shoulder and chuckled together.

Cadet Andrus Elbrum

And I thought it was 42?

Pretending to put something on his desk for him to look at Athena asked with a serious expression, "And what do you see in this picture?" {He'll either play along and tell me who knows what or he'll think I'm insane.}

"The answer to the meaning of life...apparently it's bagels and cream cheese. Either that or it could be getting close to lunchtime who knows how the subconscious works, eh?" Scott replied.

Someone should start a workers Union on the Chimera...

"If they get caught napping on the job, I'll be sure to get in touch with Engineering and give them a few more candidates for plasma exhaust scrubbing,"

Logging:
The weekly logging deadline is at Midnight (12:00AM/00:00) GMT/UTC (19:00 EST); all logs received after the deadline will be counted for the following week. If you are pressed for time and would like a log to count for the previous week, but it is sent after the deadline, please send an email to the command team when you send the log so that we can make the corrections.
Please remember that all MAJOR plot changes need to be cleared with the command staff before a log goes through! You can do this by sending the command staff (
chimera-command@ucip.org ) a log labeled with "Draft" tagged to the subject line. We'll typically let you know if it's approved within 24 to 48 hours, or tell you what might need to be modified before it's sent to the listserv.
When using other characters in your logs, please keep in mind that person's characteristics. Character information can be found on the UCIP website or the USS Chimera website (under CREW - just click on the Star Trek symbol next to the character's name). If you're still unsure how to interact with a character, then privately mail the person
involved, and I'm sure they'll be willing to help.
Conversely, if you feel that your character is being portrayed incorrectly by someone please contact them to try to work out an agreeable solution. Just keep in mind when logging to treat other characters the way you'd like them to treat you - with the respect due to any member of Starfleet who is a specialist in their field.
If you think your log may be going out of bounds, then please ask! If you are having problems finding things to write about or would just like some help with your log, please contact your department head or the command team. Remember, you don't always have to log about things relating to the main plot - logs that develop your character's
personality are encouraged! We're eager to help if you're having trouble; just email the command team (

[USS Chimera] [Alpha] SD240909.15 | Duty Log | 2LT D. Winters | PL-E

[Location: Norris VIII-A]
[Time: 1230 hours, Federation Standard Time]

"Don't make any sudden movements! Keep your hands where we can see them!"

The small, circular room was filled with computer equipment. Roughly a dozen Romulan technicians were seated at various consoles. The last of the armed security detachment lay on the floor, a still-smoldering crater in his chest from the compression rifle blast. A thin haze of smoke hung near the ceiling from the explosion that had forced open the entrance.

"Rico, Jal'el! Round them up and get them away from the consoles," Lieutenant Dick Winters shouted to a pair of his men before turning to look at his Vulcan tech team.  "Open up their logs. I'm sure they've alerted their fleet to the situation, but I'd like to guess how much time we've got before they arrive. Jinx, check out their transmitter array. If it's still operational we need to know right now."

"We've got incoming, Lieutenant," Randleman said from one of the windows which lined the walls of one side of the chamber. After moving to stand next to him Winters let out a sigh; another detachment of Romulans, presumably one that had been engaged with Second and Third Platoon, had disengaged and turned back towards the communications center.

"Maybe T'Shal can go check on Captain Spiers," replied Dick with a slow shake of his head. He hoped beyond hope his fellows had been out of range of the explosion, but knew hope wouldn't be enough.

The sound of disruptor shots echoed in from the hallway beyond, snapping the Lieutenant's attention back to the activities at hand. Raising a hand he quickly directed a number of his marines, "Grab those consoles; I want that door blocked right now!"

"Lieutenant, we have something," S'rat called from the communications data console. "A subspace transmission was beamed to a spot roughly thirteen light-years from this system. The destination of the transmission seems to be in open space."

"A fleet?" Randleman asked, approaching from the window.

"Or a communications relay," replied the Vulcan. "In either occurrence it is a logical to assume the Romulan military has been notified of our actions here."

"Jinx! Where's my comm channel?!" Winters shouting, turning back to look across the room.

"I'm not sure this is gonna work, Lieutenant," the Denobulan replied as she worked furiously at the innards of the console. "It looks like they tried to scuttle the equipment after they sent off their warning."

Moving towards the Marine and the console Dick shook his head, "Not what I wanted to hear, Jinx. We need to call in our air support. Now."

After several more moments with the upper half of her body inside the device she finally replied, "Give  it a try, sir. I can't promise it will work, and the range is going to be very limited. Don't expect to talk to Unity from here."

"What about Padassa?"

The woman didn't reply, but merely shrugged.

"Open a channel, priority one," he said, after working the consoles for a moment Jinx gave him a nod

"Padassa Station, this is Lieutenant Dick Winters, Easy Company! If anyone's getting this, we need immediate air support! Repeat, we need immediate air support on Norris Eight!"
