It was unusually quiet in the quarters that belonged to
Rangi, Shane and Martin. Usually, it was all busy with
little Martin and his games and with two adult persons
trying to keep up with him. But now … with only Shane
there is was sad and quiet. The only company Shane had for
the moment, was a glass of dry red wine – Cabernet
sauvignon year 2402 from Guga vineyards on Tautilon IV. It
was one of the few advantaged of living on a starbase …
you could get real food and beverages instead of all the
replicated stuff.

Vlimar raced to Shane's quarters. It was one of the first
time that Shane's attention was immediately required. And it
was the first time Vlimar had to go to Shane's quarters.
Vlimar, padd in his right hand, rang the chime of Shane's
door and waited.
When the door announced a visitor, Shane looked up (glass in
his hand) and called: "Enter!". He knew that the marine
guards outside his door would scare off any unwanted visitor
… especially financial market maklers …

+Captain.+ Rojac rolled over beneath the sheets and slapped
at a phantom in the air. He buried his face deeper into the
pillow. +Captain, are you there?+

Rojac sat up sharply, once he realized it was the voice of
the communications Officer, LtJG Kresh Montesque, and not
some creature in his dreams. "Rojac here, what's going on
Lieutenant."

+Priority one message coming from, UNITY. It sounds urgent.+

"All priority one messages are, Lieutenant." Rojac said,
wiping the grit from his eyelids. "Patch it through to here,
top level encryption."

+Aye sir.+

Rojac sat up and walked over to the closet along his wall,
he pulled out a duty shirt, and a captain's vest to look
semi-appropriate for the late night call. He made it over to
the small desk in his room and pressed the button accepting
the call from UNITY.

"Rojac here."
On the other end of the screen, Vlimar and Shane appeared.
Vlimar briefed Shane about the transmission and Shane agreed
that this matters was urgent and needed immediate attention.
There was no need to return to the OPS center and Shane
asked the ops officer to patch the transmission to Chimera
to his quarters.

With Rangi away, the quarters was a bit messy, but that was
to expect in a single man quarters.

"Nice to see you, Captain" Shane said and smiled.

+Likewise, Commodore.+ Rojac replied through his image on
the display. +Though I apologize for my lack of promptness.
You caught me at an odd hour. What's going on?+

"The Colonel has some disturbing news from our sensor
network along Romulan borders." Shane turned to Vlimar and
asked: "Please explain the matter to the Captain …"

Vlimar shook his head a bit: "Sir, I'd prefer to send
the Captain a detailed report about this accident".

Shane looked at his XO, but then nodded: "All right,
Colonel." And then turned to Cropa. "Captain, just to
give you a quick briefing … one of our listening posts
along Romulan borders send a distress call few hours ago. It
was not a standard distress call, but rather an encrypted
message that they have been compromised. We do not know what
happened, how were they compromised or by whom or what's
the current status of the listening post. Colonel DuPont
will send you all necessary details in a short time and your
orders are to fly to the given coordinates and investigate
the matter. I surely do not need to stress the importance of
our sensor network along Romulan borders. If you have any
questions regarding your mission, please discuss them with
the Colonel. Guzman out! "
