Vlimar smiled. "I do not suffer from any medical allergies,
Doctor.", he replied. "As you will see in my history, I did
have two occasions that Dermaline was prescribed to me and
it worked efficiently.", he added. Vlimar smiled at Rangi.
"Can I ask you... a rather personnal question, Doctor?", he
asked.

Rangis expression showed surprise. She had only just met the
man and he wanted to ask personal questions.

" It depends how personal." she replied with the smallest of
smiles and moved to the consol, tapping in codes and
passwords that would allow her to see his medical history in
full.

Vlimar smiled at the reply.
"It is actually personal for me, in the sense of non-work
context.", he said. "What is the marital status of your
Nurse-in-Charge?", he asked, knowing the total showing of
his intentions.

Rangi had just begun to read the now extensive history but
the question caught her by surprise. She looked quickly over
her shoulder at Vlimar.

" Well...you can read her bio. at any time." she replied,
wondering why he would bother to ask the question but hot on
the heels of her words, the thought came to her mind that
Lucy had seemed to have had a slightly heightened colour to
her cheeks and an unusually hesitant manner when she'd left
the room.

" It will tell you that she's single." Rangi added now with
a gaugeing look in her eyes.

Vlimar looked at Rangi. He smiled briefly, then couldn't
help feeling silly. After all, there was still the age
difference and the fact that he didn't know Lucy at all that
played against him.

Vlimar closed his eyes and though for a moment. If he would
go ahead with flirting Lucy, he might be seen as an old
pervert.
If he didn't do anything, then, if there was any
interest on Lucy's part, he would seem disinterested.

Vlimar reopened his eyes in front of that dilemma, and
looked at Rangi, waiting for something, a word, a comment.

When he didnt explain further Rangi looked away, turning her
attention to the med history. She had got as far as his
brush with death in a crashed fighter when she couldnt
resist the urge to glance back at him and say:

" Shouldnt you talk to Lucy herself instead of asking me?"

Vlimar smirked. Rangi was right, Vlimar acted like a 15
years old, asking for buddies to approach others. Vlimar
replied:
"Well, I'm sure you understand that with this much age
difference...", but didn't finish it.
Something struck Vlimar.

As much as he was rusty with the opposite sex approach,
there was no way that he could do justice to himself by not
being confident. Vlimar nodded to himself after that thought
and looked at Rangi.

"Checking the history?", he asked, changing the subject, at
least, hoping it would change the subject.

" Yes." Rangi replied slowly then turned back to the data,
leaning forward to study details.
" You've certainly seen the insides of a few sickbays havent
you?" she commented. " Broken bones a plenty....that
chemical burn to your forearm..the same arm as now." she
said glancing back at him for a couple of seconds. The
details had named torture as the cause, not an accident.

" Detached retina...ruptured spleen..collapsed lung...
.twice.." she stopped reading it aloud but the list
continued.
Eventually she straightened up and walked back to him.

" Lucy was concerned because this isnt healing as it should
do." she said, looking at the wound on his chest. " I'm
going to try a second treatment with the Dermal
Regenerator."
She stepped to the med trolley and selected the tool.
" How are you dealing with the pain?" she asked, adjusting
the
settings." I can give you something stronger if need be."

Vlimar looked at Rangi.
"Anything you think will work Doc. The pain is there, but
slightly. Still very sore in the morning, as you can
guess.", he added.
Vlimar smiled to Rangi. The pain was actually still pretty
high, but Vlimar being Vlimar, did not want to complain
about it. After all, he was raised believing that Pain was
just Weakness leaving the body...

Rangi nodded but she had met people like him before. They
tended to gloss over their injuries or, as in this case,
pain, as a way of appearing 'brave' and 'fearless'.

She reached up and tapped a few buttons on the display above
the
biobed. It was as she had expected. The readouts said more
than he would admit.

" I'm going to change the medication..." she said. "..to one
which will be a bit stronger...but first of all.." She
lifted the regenerator." Just relax...it might be a bit
unpleasant but if it gets too much then just tell me ok?...I
don't believe in heroics."

Vlimar grinned. It wasn't much the injuries that made him
proud, but rather what was accomplished that came with the
injuries.
Unlike most "marines" type officers, Vlimar went deeply
undercover so that he became a liability if put back into
normal service.
Vlimar saw the Insurrection War, the attack
on Starbase 202, many full scale wars and battles, but yet,
his name wasn't anywhere. That's how deep he was.
"I don't like heroes either.", he said.

Rangi returned his smile though to a lower degree as she
began the treatment. She flicked a quick look at him now and
then but he didnt flinch or show any signs of discomfort.

" There...." she said, stepping back and reviewing her
handiwork , much like an artist considering a completed
canvas. "..that should do it. I'll need you back in two days
time for a second review. If you make an appointment on your
way out?"

He began to sit up and Rangi handed him his shirt. " Before
you go...a shot of analgesic."
She loaded a hypospray then waited for him to complete
fastening the buttons.

" This is Asynolithyn." she said as she administered the
medication. " You'll need to take it three times a day in
tablet form ok?"

Vlimar looked at Rangi. "Tablets?", he asked, smiling. He
stood on his feet. "Anything else, doctor?", he asked.
To the slight shake of the head that Rangi gave him, Vlimar
looked around for the tablets. "Do I need to go to the local
pharmacy as well?", he asked, obviously refering to mid 21st
Century, on Earth.

" Yes you do..it's section C...second turn as you go out of
here...ask someone if you're not sure."
She smiled to him. " A pleasure to meet you Colonel. I hope
next time it will be
in happier surroundings." she said, offering her hand.

Vlimar stood up and shook Rangi's hand, smiling. He started
walking out of the examination room, when he stopped dead,
face to face with Lucy, who was heading in the opposite
direction.
"Lucy...", he said, smiling. He stood there, staring at her.

After a few seconds, he realized that, well, he was staring
at her in the middle of the Sickbay, about 8 inches from her
face. He needed an out.
"Well, I am now looking for the pharmacy, I guess...", he
said.

" Right." she said and after a moment took a step back to
distance herself but his blue eyes looking deeply into hers
glued her to the spot until, thinking that they must look
odd standing speechless and staring at each other, she
managed to say.:
" It's along there..second turn to the right, third door
along on the left. It says 'Pharmacy' in big letters."

Realizing that he must think her foolish for adding such a
detail she swallowed and forced a self concious smile.
"Your medication will be waiting." she added feebly.

Vlimar smiled. "Well... Thank you...", he finally said. He
started walking away, then he turned, facing Lucy. "How
about you show me where it is?", he asked, feeling silly at
the moment he finished his sentence.

" Show you?" she asked "Umm...well...errr...it's...."
He saw her look past him over his shoulder before remeeting
his gaze. " If you can't find it..then.I suppose I could.."
she said sounding far less certain than her usual confident
self.

Vlimar's eyebrow frowned.
"Well, I can't find it.", he said, smirking.

Lucy began to frame a reply but before she did so, her
attention shifted to the figure she had noticed before. He
had approached them and now drew almost level. He smiled to
Lucy and gave Vlimar an inquiring glance.

Lucy said " Lieutenant Colonel PontBrillant." as though it
explained everything." He's looking for the pharmacy."

"Sir." Scott said acknowledging the senior officer. " Scott
Fisher AMO...allow me to show you the way..I've just come
from there."
He expected Vlimar to accept and Lucy glanced
from one to the other smiling uncertaintly.

Vlimar looked at Scott, then Lucy. He smiled at Lucy and
nodded at Scott. "After you, Mr Fisher", he replied.

Scott noticed nothing untoward but merely indicated the
direction. " This way Sir." he said and moved away.

Lucy watched them go, clasping her hands together in front
of her.

" Is that Scott back already?" Lucy turned her head quickly
to see Rangi beside her, watching the duo leave the main
area.

" Yes." she said " He's showing the Colonel the way to the
Pharmacy."
