====== Transporter room, USS Qashqai
======
Wearing a light combat armour, Shane stood in the
transporter room, ready to step on the transporter platform
as soon as HELM announce the arrival at the given
coordinates. Shane was wearing a type IIIb phaser rifle as
well as a standard type II phaser … and a hidden small
type I phaser beneath his clothes. Harker was far from a
honest person and therefore Shane saw no point in acting
honestly as well.
Orders given to Qashqai's officer in charge – LtCmdr.
Asimov were simple. Once they will reach the given
coordinates, Qashqai will open a small window in her cloak
to beam Shane out the ship. Immediately afterwards, they
will cloak the window and change position at least by 100
km. Shane hoped that the Qashqai will stay hidden and
unharmed by a possible trap set by Harker. From what Shane
knew, Harker could have a handful of small ships ready …
but he doubted that Harker would have a wing of Warbirds at
his command. But maybe he was wrong …
Instructing his security forces, both regular security and
both ODA teams were ready to beam down and help, the only
problem was to contact the ship and tell them that he needs
help. Another security measure of Shane was to have medical
to implant him a tiny comm. device under his forearm skin.
Thinking about the coordinates gained from Harker, Shane
wondered how the hell Haker knew about his experience in an
alternate universe. The knowledge of the event was of course
written down in numerous reports Shane wrote for SSF and SF
Command, but such details were never published. It was VERY
strange that Harker knew about this place. The place was in
fact an abandoned ancient city, now only ruins … on a M
class planet hardly a light year away from their position,
still well in Quorum/Romulan space. The place had little
value, not even archeological and Shane was there only by
bad chance … in the alternate universe his ship crash
landed on the very planet, defending herself against a vast
enemy force.
Another thought that disturbed Shane was … what was
Harker's plan? It was obvious that Harker was about to
kill Shane. It was hard to reach him on UNITY, so he lured
him this far from federation space where the odds were in
his favour. He could have a dozen of henchmen hidden in the
ruins, just waiting for Shane to appear. Or he could just
wait in a cloaked ship for Shane to beam on the planet and
bombard it from the orbit. Half a dozen of high explosive
torpedoes and he could burn an area of 100km2 to ashes. The
only fact that was in Shane's favour was the hatred Harker
had for him. Shane hoped it was strong enough for Harker
wanting to speak with him before he will attempt to kill
him.
Shane did not believe in anything Harker said. He will sure
not release Martin nor Rangi. Their only chance was that
Shane will prevail over Harker (someway) and free them from
their captivity. The big question here was … how to do it.
Suddenly, the Comm announced: "Sir, we have reached the
specified coordinates. As far I can tell, there is no ship
in orbit and the ruin site shows no life forms. All is quiet
for now …"
"For now" Shane muttered.
