Location: Deck 312 - Section One-Twelve (Easy Company Briefing)
Time: Half an hour following his report to Captain Spiers
The chamber was large, easily large to seat nearly a couple hundred men if necessary; this afternoon, however, only about forty individuals were present. The room was arranged with stadium-style seating to allow better vantages during briefings, and the units attending the current briefing were standing at attention near the front, in the bottom tiers. They were obviously waiting for direction from somewhere.
"Seats," came the command, originating from Second Lieutenant Winters as he walked down the center aisle in the room. As he made his way to the front of the chamber the soldiers around him all silently sat down, sitting stock still as they did so. Winters set a pair of PADDs down on the only surface in the room, which doubled as a holographic display for briefings, and turned to address the troops. Gunnery Sergeant Denver Randleman, a large man with a bit of a southern accent, stood just behind and to the side of him.
As soon as the Lieutenant had found and met Gunny Randleman, the briefing packet had arrived for him from Captain Spiers. He had then immediately begun studying the material while Randleman and rounded up and assembled the troops of First Platoon. More time would have been preferable, and much appreciated, but the lack thereof was understood.
"I am Lieutenant Winters," he started, looking through the ranks. There were many species represented in the group: Vulcans, Bolian, Tellarite. The platoon had been made into a very diverse group. As his gaze neared the far end of the group, he continued, "And I will be taking over as your Platoon Leader, effective immediately." Dick saw several nods throughout the crowd; had they been without an officer for that long?
"I wish we had more time to get acquainted," he said, reaching back to grab a PADD while still looking at the group. "But General Sharpe has seen to it to assign Second Battalion to Operation Manga. Over the next twenty four hours you will be receiving extensive briefings over this material; however, we're going to go over the role Easy Company is going to play in this operation."
With a tap to the PADD the lights in the chamber dimmed and the holo-projector hummed to life, pulling up a glowing blue representation of the Romulan-esq space station to hover a meter off the table's surface, "This is Passada station, which was recently taken in action from the Romulans by Klingon and Erassian forces. This station, people, is our destination."
Another tap zoomed in on the hologram (now nearly ten meters across), with several dozen internal sections of the installations now glowing a pulsing red. "These are our objectives. We will occupy and defend these locations from any counter attack the Romulans may make against the station while our armada continues on to complete Operation Manga."
"We will be taking along all standard equipment," he continued, closing down the holo-projector. "That means Type-Three compression rifles, p-frags, and flash grenades." Dick turned to look at a group of three men he had already been told about, "Support, I want you equip with a Type-Four Es-Ay-Pee rifle."
The Lieutenant turned his attention back to the group in whole, "Make sure to pack plenty of ammunition cells, rations, and water! We're not sure how long this is going to take so I want you all to be prepared! We depart this station in less than forty-eight hours. Are there any questions?"
The soldiers looked amongst themselves for several moments, but no one spoke up. With a firm nod Dick turned to Randleman, "Alright, Sergeant. Get'em to it..."
