Gustav was in his office preparing who would be on which damage
control team, he would like to hope they weren't going to be needed
but he knew better as the Captain liked to lead by example, meaning a
lot of work for Gustav and his engineers.
Tapping on his comms badge the young CEO called Alan Walker.
+taps+ "Lt Kroitzer to Lt JG Walker could you come to my office please"
+taps+ "Aye sir will be there in a moment".
+taps+ "Good, Kroitzer out".
Alan was just adjusting the settings on the shield array to maximise
power output and weapons resistance when he received the call to go to
Gustav's office, he turned to the ensign next to him and asked her to
finish up the adjustments.
Standing outside the office thinking that Gustav sounded a lot more
serious than normal Alan hit the door chime.
"Come in" could be heard as the doors to the room opened.
"Have a seat please Lt" Gustav said as he pointed to the seat opposite his desk.
"Anything to drink?" he offered as the older Lt JG took his seat.
"No sir, but thanks anyway" Alan replied.
Gustav replicated himself a mug of strong sweet English breakfast tea
then took his seat.
"I guess your wondering why I've called you here when we are so close
to battle" he asked rhetorically.
"Since becoming the Chimeras CEO I've not had a deputy but I've been
relying on you to run this department when I'm not here" Kroitzer
started.
"You're also the man I rely on when I need an important job to be done
properly when I'm to busy, basically you've been acting as the DCEO
without any of the benefits I've decided to change that by offering
you the deputy chief position if you interested".
A little shocked at the offer Alan sat in his chair for a minute or
two to quickly think the idea of him being DCEO over.
"You don't have to answer right away," Gustav said thinking back to
when his CEO offered him the job that he just offered Alan.
"No need to answer later sir" Alan responded, " I'll gladly take the position".
"Good, now I need you to organise these people into these damage
control teams for me please." Gustav ordered.
"Aye sir, right away" Alan said walking away with a stupid grin on his face.
10 minutes later the ship went to red alert with the order for all
personnel to battle stations.
