The endless sounds of disruptor blasts hitting the wall they were crouching behind was causing some serious concern among the men of Easy Company. The veterans were doing their best to calm the rookies, but there was no denying that they were in a tough spot. Bullets from the Romulan projectile weapons were ricocheting off the wall and off the building behind them. They’d managed to get the wounded into the building itself through a blast hole, but without support, they were all going to be casualties.

Buck Compton, now effectively defacto company CO, with Heyliger’s death, was held up with the corpse of the radio operator he’d grabbed earlier. He was listening to the radio chatter, which suggested that this was happening all over the city, exactly as the General had predicted, and had hoped to avoid. That was little comfort to the men who were now in the shit that had resulted.

Compton had heard over the radio that General Sharpe had given a very bold order, that convened with standing orders from Starfleet Command, that the tanks were to make their way to the trapped marines, regardless of the civilian buildings. The orders had been that there be no unnecessary collateral damage. However, Compton guessed that Sharpe had received no arguments from the marines with him to this order. Marines looked out for each other, and if there were marines getting slaughtered, there was the comfort of knowing that your brothers would never leave you behind.

He’d passed word down the line that the tankers were making their way to them, to give the Rommie’s hell. What Compton didn’t know, was that help was much closer at hand than the tanks. It would take the tanks, driving hard, at least an hour to reach the men of Easy, and there were many other calls for help. The MC-200’s were bombing the shit out of any labelled targets by the ground spotters, but they couldn’t help Easy out, because there was a massive fusion reactor closeby that could get hit.

However, help was at hand…

=/\= AC-20 Thumper =/\=

“Listen up!” Harper shouted to the three squads on the Thumper dropship. The Thumper was designed along the same principles as the Black-Hawk & Heuy helicopters. It had opening sidedoors and gunners manning rapid fire weapons to give ground support. This also allowed for rapid troop deployment and collection.

The three squads of Force Recon, the elite arm of the SFMC, looked up from their benches to the Sergeant Major. They were used to being lead into combat by Non-Coms, as they often operated only as a squad, rarely at this sort of size, but these were different circumstances.

“We’ve got a trapped company down there, taking heavy casualties. We’re unable to provide artillery support due to the proximity of a fusion reactor close by. Therefore, we are going to go into that building, and clear it for our guys, so that they can extract to the RV point. Elements of the 92nd are pushing their way through to them, but they need help now. General Sharpe wants Easy Company rescued.” Harper said.

The three squad leaders looked to the Sergeant Major and nodded. This sort of thing was right up their alley.

“We’re going to rope drop onto the roof of the building they’re holding, and take it down, one floor at a time.” Harper said. “You’re all the best, do me proud.”

The men, with their blacked up faces, nodded to Harper, and waited for the ‘go’ order.

Just when Compton was beginning to think that all was lost for the men of Easy, a fantastic sight suddenly came into view. A Thumper had appeared right over to the top of the large building where the Rommies were firing at them at. It fired its chain guns at the Rommies on the roof, dropped four ropes either side, and he watched, with a look of amazement as marines slid down the ropes and landed on the roof.

“Lipton! Pass the word!” Compton shouted. “Force Recon just showed up!”

“About fucking time!” Lipton quipped, but was grinning as well.

Harper landed with a thud, and raised up the M16A2 that Richard had leant him. The roof was clear, and the rest of his team were securing all sides. He gestured with his hands to 1st Squad that they should proceed down the staircase, whilst 2nd Squad were to rappel down the west side of the building, and 3rd the east side. The squad sergeants nodded, and moved to their objectives.

Moving in with 1st Squad, they made their way down the staircase, to the top floor, they opened fire quickly and efficiently on all the Rommies that were inside, but by the time they’d made it halfway down the corridor, the Romulans were fighting back on the FR guys.

Harper rolled a grenade down the hallway, and when it exploded, took out a whole bunch of soliders at the end, causing a hole in the floor. He could hear explosions further down, which meant that 2nd and 3rd squads had breached on the lower floors and were beginning their systematic extermination of the population.

The Romulan’s had stopped firing on Easy Company, and the men peered up over the wall to see explosions and firefights happening all over the building. A massive hole was present on the second floor, where five ropes met, clearly where Recon had breached. The fighting seemed to die down after a while, until it stopped altogether.

Compton heard someone shout “Clear!” He stood up and looked at the doorway, that was now hanging open.

A man walked out of the doorway, a rifle resting on the back of his neck as he carried it casually out. “Easy Company?” The man asked.

Compton couldn’t believe it, he stood up and cautiously made his way out over to the man. “That’s right, Lieutenant Compton.” He said.

“Sergeant Major Harper, sir.” He said, offering a casual salute to the Lieutenant. “Compliments of General Sharpe sir.”

“Well, they are most gratefully received Sergeant.” Compton swallowed. “I don’t think we’d have held out much longer.”

“Sure you would’ve, Lieutenant.” Harper said, putting a cigar in his mouth. “You’re marines. Marines don’t quit whilst they still have rifles. Didn’t they teach you that at OCS?”

“Must’ve skipped that class.” Compton smirked.

“Well, nothing like a little learnin’ to bring you enlightenment, son.” Harper said, and winked to him. “92nd Armour are on their way, and they’ll be evacing the wounded on the LAV-MDs they’re bringing. We’ve got field medics on the Thumper, and we’ll extract the critically wounded on the Thumper. Everyone else can wait for the trucks.”

Compton nodded, as he spotted the Thumper overhead, landing on the roof. Compton suddenly became all business again. “Our criticals are in the building with Doc Roe.” He said. “If your guys could give us a hand getting them to the Thumper, I’d appreciate it.”

“Sure thing el-tee.” One of the squad leaders, who had appeared behind Harper, said.

“I want to get the rest of us moving back. This is not a good position to be caught in, believe me.” Compton said. “We lost a lot of good guys.”

“Lieutenant Heyliger around?” Harper asked.

Compton shook his head sadly.

“Shame, he was a good man.” Harper said, his Irish drawl poking out. “Well, its your show, Lieutenant.” He said. “Take us home.”
