Their fighters may not have been classed as state of the art but their
weaponry definitely was. The Valkyries and Warhammers of Rajish 4
were built in independent shipyards under Federation Contract to try
and bolster fighter production for the Romulan War which was bogging
down badly in the 'Northern' Sectors of the Alpha Quadrant but making
steady if not dramatic headway in the regions where Federation,
Erassian and to a small extent Klingon Forces were pressing the
Romulans back. The fighters were not allied to the weak provisional
government which was essentially a puppet of their real master,
Colonel Vernier himself.
An entire battalion of the Erassian Special Forces had followed their
master, the then Head of the Special Forces Colonel Vernier when he
left the Alliance to a seemingly immanent defeat. An entire battalion
of the most highly trained killers went Mercenary overnight ostensibly
working for whoever paid the most, at that time it was the enemy the
Solrin Colonies looking to press their advantage with the financial
and technological backing of the Romulan Star Empire. Mercenaries
offer their services to the highest bidder after all, even if they
were previously working for a rival organisation. The Elite Battalion
prided themselves on having no emotional ties, no constraints and no
weaknesses, it was only natural in a way that they serve the only
people worthy of their services...themselves. Other people's money
and resources was fine but in the end no one called the shots but
them. Inferior people were coming to try and stop them, they were
relatively insignificant but one of them was on Colonel Vernier's hit
list and that made her prime target number one. This soon to be dead
woman had a name but she was better known by the name 'Stormchild'.
Two Squadrons of fighters entered the system. Sensor's showed a
Squadron of Starfleet's new fighters the AX-02 Lancer and what could
be another Squadron's worth of fighters. With the inability of even
these modern upgraded sensors in the Warhammers and Valkyries they
could not get an accurate fix on this second Squadron, it was likely a
Squadron of Erassian M-35A fighters as the intelligence report
initially suggested. The primary target would be in one of the AX-02
Lancers under the designation 'Lancer One'.

Lancer Squadron and Windhover Squadron moved towards the defending
forces who out numbered them three to one in fighters alone. That
wasn't to count two picket ships and a host of low end planetary
defence platforms.
"Lancer One to Reaper Wing. Permission to open fire has been granted.
Use long range missile fire to take down as may of those defence
fighters as possible. Show no mercy to these dogs before you."
Anya's voice came out over the comm of all the fighters in her wing
and presumably to the enemy fighters too. This one broadcast was made
on an open channel deliberately.
Anya tightened her grip on the the control stick of the fighter she
was piloting which for some bizzarre reason today felt slightly alien.
She took a deep breath as the pounding rhythm of 'Soldiers of
Death's' new song 'Destroy The Unbelievers' filled her ears.
Advancing the throttle to full on her fighter she raced towards the
waiting enemy.
